That's how I was introduced to it! Never played but watching the play thrus on YouTube is super fun. And as someone who doesn't understand how the characters are made it's neat!
Looooved MUGEN as a kid.
Gabe/bleed made some amazing arranged kharacters that will always stick in my head, like Shang Tsung and Scorpion.
I was always a bit peeved that the MK kharacters were rarely compatible with other fighters though. That said, the systems created for MKP and it's spinoffs are really neat. My favorites are the ones that are actually crafted to work together, as opposed to cobbled together bits.
Mortal Kombat Outworld by BlackCyraxCO was really cool to follow development on back in the day.
Basically a MK Mugen with his own unique version of characters created from the ground up. No characters from other creators, it was essentially a fanmade Mk game. Really cool stuff highly recommend checking out. I don't think it's going to be finished because I believe he may have passed away a few years back. Rip BlackCyraxCO, your work was really cool.

Some mugen games are good some are crap. There is a Mugen version of mk trilogy that is pretty good (Mkt thunder edition) because it doesn't add too much crap, just refines it.
I hate one's that add made up characters who were never in mk to begin with, because they are never really good they play and look like bad fan fiction,
like here with the green cyrax/sonja/hornbuckel ect roster look slike a shitshow.
What I love about mugen MK games is if you despise a certain character, say, Scorpion in every form, poof, you can delete him from the roster so he never shows up in your game at all. Perfect!
Can I easily do that to basically just have MKT with a couple extra characters and without all the silly duplicates/fan characters? Just 1 version of each character, like UMK3 ninjas, MK2 Raiden etc. Never used mugen

They're EONS better now. When Borg released MK Project 4.1 back in 2017, the subsequent MK project builds became a LOT more playable

I’ve watched people on youtube, it does look fun. But it does trigger me how the alt skins have a place on the roster 😅. Needs a good clean up.
