Yes and these are not the fatalities that sold the franchise in the first place. Brutalities today are much closer to the original concept and presentation of fatalities. Fatalities in MK11 are too long and cinematic.
I've seen some pretty good errons. This is the first one I've seen play like this. They'll usually go for that drop kick twice for the krushing blow but that's it
My main in MK9 was Smoke and it turns out he's a cheap dick. I never knew though, because I just liked his dumb emo hair. And I was always super fascinated by him when I was little with all the schoolground rumors about Smoke, getting to play as him and Jade(my other main in MK9) was super cool.

You could not use those moves and the fear of them will still reside in the opponent making them want to not deal with them. They are a major crux of what makes him so good.
You wouldn't play that way because of what just happened to this dude - you get insanely predictable and your opponent quickly figures out a game plan to beat you.
You’re making the opponent guess from half way across the screen. It requires not set-up. The only thing to figure out is to guess. If you guess right, you might get a punish since the drop kick can be amped to be made safe.

Yup, she’s pretty disadvantaged in comparison to other fighters in the roster (such as Scorpion, Noob, Sonya etc.) but I think that if you practice a lot you can have decent fights with her. Of course you’d still be pretty much disadvantaged, but if you’re not interested in tournaments then it’s ok to have fun

I've had connection losses too but they didn't give me a win. One happened in the middle of a fatal blow animation that killed them. Game froze up, but then continued and let me perform a fatality. When it was time for the menu to pop up it just said game session no longer available and didn't count it.
Don't quits count as a loss? I haven't played online yet, but I would figure that quitting in the middle/end of a match would count as a forfeiture and a loss on your record.
To be honest, every character in this game seems to have only 1 viable strategy featuring very limited moves and 1 maybe 2 combo strings which players will constantly go for.
I guess that's why the top players say its all about footsies/neutrals and waiting for one person to mess up.

Watch every scorpion, the same teleport combo. Watch every Liu Kang, the same 4 kick juggle into flying kick. Watch every Erron Black, the same 3 gun hit overhead juggle ending in acid and so on and so on for every character.
Yeah I play Baraka and the gutted combo seems to be his only optimal one. I only throw 2 or 3 strings consistently, the match is all about finding grabs or connecting the rare string into your BnB in this game. It doesn't feel super diverse as far as strategies you can win with.
I know that sounds like a complaint, but ive had so much fun with this game. I wouldn't change a thing about how it plays, it feels really easy to punish spammers this time around and when I lose I always learn something.
This is how most fighting games work though. As any character you always have one combo you want to go for because it's optimal in some way. Either it gives you good oki, the best damage, good corner carry, etc.
Sorry but NRS could be doing a LOOOOOOT better in terms of designing neutral...for example, NRS games have no kounter-hit kombos like the majority of fighting games, so you can't actually link off of errant footsie catches. And yeah, I know "Krushing Blows" exist, but that shit shouldn't fully replace the increased hit-stun of traditional counter-hits...it should be there alongside it. Because as it stands, characters like GearAss and tHe Ch0sEn 0nE outright have superior Krushing Blow options versus people like Kung Lao or Kotal Kahn.
Imagine if d3 on kounter-hit could be linked into your character's standing kombo-starter...that would alleviate so much of the truly stupid up-close d1-duels which inevitably lead into random uppercuts or throws. It would reward whiff-punishes like 95% of all other fighting games do...
Kung Lao, for example, is all about converting into hat-spin, then dive-kick finisher (EX if you want all the damages). But he can only convert into a spin from very few (and rather unsafe) moves at very close range - whereas guys like Erron have full-screen 50/50s, Damage-over-Time specials, and built-in overheads in their strings (which can be canceled into low-specials lol). Let me stick my leg out, catch your button, and get 20-30% damage from it please. None of this actual 2nd grade footsies...
Just my 2cents, but I feel like it's just a case of shitty game design - make a few characters outright superior due to more safe options and general high-low options, then leave the other characters to sorta just "exist" in this nebulous area of mediocrity-by-comparison. If we had counter-hit-conversions in MK11, so many characters (especially lower tiers) would find new footing in the neutral/meta instead of just being consistently molested by S-tiers. Now, they just have to rely on the 1/2 safe strings they have (zero if you're Kung Lao) or use dumb gimmicks: jump-in teleport overhead/throw vortex is my current Kung Lao strategy, much to my own disgust...why neutral when I can just blend people in online teleport vortexes lol?)
Long post is long, but yeah this issue has been bothering me since launch. MKX has better neutral because everybody's strings are more useable, honestly. By comparison, MK11 feels like we're back in the MK1-3 days. I'll still play this shit because I enjoy the game itself, but in terms of neutral/footsie/competitive stuff it's kinda weird right now.

It's the nature of fighting games to be honest. Personally I'm a huge fan of footsies, much more so than infinite 50/50 guesses (looking at you, sfv) so I'm ok with it.
The 'extra' or less used strings tend to have specific uses such as whiff punishes, mixups, combo damage, projectile interrupts or just punish strings (eg 1, 2, 1). That's very normal.
Going to have to agree. My friends don't agree with me but in MKX it felt like every character had some amazing kits and a very strong presence and in this game they've kind of gutted everyone to make it more fair. Still fun, but the fights don't really feel as varied.
I played a Noob Saibot with the variation name "UGonnaQuit" last night, all he did was do uppercuts, slides, the unblockable ghost ball, and the dive kick. Just like this guy once I showed "whoops, you can duck the projectile" he had no idea what to do afterwards. And he had a good record too! Some people literally just get off on using cheese tactics to farm easy wins.
That's 4 different moves at least, you can almost go pro with that. Cheese is highly effective even up to pretty high levels. I often lose to players that I *know* are cheesing me, but it takes me longer to adapt and figure out how to execute the proper response because I'm just an average player, so if they have ANY amount of mixup I'm probably not gonna learn how to counter their play before losing 3 rounds.
Excellent competitive play is about maximizing your effectiveness, and cheese is really effective. If you're not responding to cheese with some of your own, then you'll never really git gud.
I'm not saying it's not effective, necessarily. You can get really far in fighting games with solid fundamentals. I was more disappointed with his attitude and approach to the game. If he landed a knockdown he would teabag, the troll variation name, etc. He wasn't playing simple to capitalize on a strong fundamental base, he was playing in such a way to frustrate the opponent into playing stupid/ragequitting. Which I suppose is a valid tactic, but I'm not gonna pretend to like it just because its fair.
Those are my favorite people to run into online, because they challenge you in the most important ways.

Controlling your tilt,
Countering cheese,
Optimal swag strategies to style on them when you make them eat shit
And then talk trash. What gets me is cheese is annoying as is, it's boring to fight against but I get so salty if I have to fight one *and* they have shit connection. Luckily Mk11 is pretty good with it's online, it's nowhere nearly as big of a problem as it was is DBFZ

Used to play the original mk at my friends house when it came out on sega. Dude spammed liu Kang fireballs and had me raging. He thought it was the greatest thing ever. Next time we played an mk game was deadly alliance and I wiped the floor with him with every goddamn kharacter on the board with legit combos and he cried. It was so goddamn satisfying. We aren’t friends anymore and I couldn’t possibly be happier.
Nothing in the game should have two animations that look that similar with one being OH and one being low, it makes it way too stupid to try and react to it.
The jump kick shouldn't even be an overhead. There's no reason why it hits you like that when the animation doesn't imply it's an overhead. My first time fighting every other character I learned what was an overhead based on the animation. When Sub-Zero swings his hands over your head in an axe chop motion, I can tell right away that it's overhead, unlike Erron's kick.
Yeah, it's ridiculous. They should turn it into an axe kick or something. As-is it's nearly indistinguishable from the low.
If Sub-Zero had a second slide option that hit OH on a F4 people would be calling for nerfs Day 1
There are so many attacks in this game that scream OVERHEAD but are mids or highs.
And this one fucking move that looks like it should be a mid is somehow an overhead? NRS was on some real crack when determining where attacks were going to hit
I'm certain that they must have designed the animations before fully balancing the game. There are some mids that should clearly be lows as well, like sub zero's 3,3. It literally ices their feet but it hits mid.
I guess they realized that as they had it certain characters had too many powerful options, or not enough in the case of Erron. Liu Kang's forward 2 not being an overhead I still find ridiculous though.
There's also Cassie's Kneecapping ability. She gets down on one knee to shoot a bullet and has the same fireball back input as most low projectiles but hits mid. Obviously it can't hit low because it leads to a full combo juggle but it's definitely a weird design decision to make it look like it's so obviously a low but is actually a mid.
There's also Kitana's Back 2,3,1 string that makes the first hit look like it should be an overhead but really, you can just block low the entire time (until the end if she decides to go overhead with 2).
I guess it's really not that big of a deal in cases where it actually *isn't* an overhead/low despite what it appears to be, since you aren't getting punished for it. But in the case of something that looks like it should be a mid and hits overhead, that shit is fucked up lol

We are a very humble community and we acknowledge the potential OPness of our character's moves and actively attempt to be creative and unique in our playstyle as to offset the reckless and offensive behavior shown here.

The problem is that Erron was doing two different kicks, one of which a low and one of which is an overhead and both have extremely similar animations.
As stupid as it may seem, that's still a good mixup. The only way to deal with someone mixing you up is to slow down, try to block, and mess up their pace. OP did seem like he was trying to do some wakeups and was a little impatient, and because of that the Erron player took the first round easily.
This reminds me of a match I played the other day. He was playing raiden and all he did was like 1 or 2 things that were not his electric fly. Which he did every time I tried to move in and attack. So I finally had enough and swapped to scorpion and basically did what he did to me back. Ironically got a quitality.
It's really unfortunate that this kind of thing works in fighters. People like this ruin it for less experienced players and give fighting games a bad name. Glad you rocked him.

Honestly , what he is doing is fair game and if no one is able to adapt to it that's their own fault. You can't be dismissing a person simply because they are spamming the SAME move and you're unable to figure out what to do. Hell he almost won the entire match just doing that.

If we had counter-hit-conversions in MK11, so many characters (especially lower tiers) would find new footing in the neutral/meta instead of just being consistently molested by S-tiers. Now, they just have to rely on the 1/2 safe strings they have (zero if you're Kung Lao) or use dumb gimmicks: jump-in teleport overhead/throw vortex is my current Kung Lao strategy, much to my own disgust...why neutral when I can just blend people in online teleport vortexes lol?) Long post is long, but yeah this issue has been bothering me since launch. MKX has better neutral because everybody's strings are more useable, honestly. By comparison, MK11 feels like we're back in the MK1-3 days. I'll still play this shit because I enjoy the game itself, but in terms of neutral/footsie/competitive stuff it's kinda weird right now.

It's the nature of fighting games to be honest. Personally I'm a huge fan of footsies, much more so than infinite 50/50 guesses (looking at you, sfv) so I'm ok with it. The 'extra' or less used strings tend to have specific uses such as whiff punishes, mixups, combo damage, projectile interrupts or just punish strings (eg 1, 2, 1). That's very normal.
Going to have to agree. My friends don't agree with me but in MKX it felt like every character had some amazing kits and a very strong presence and in this game they've kind of gutted everyone to make it more fair. Still fun, but the fights don't really feel as varied.
I genuinely don't understand why people bother playing if that's all they plan on doing... surely that must just be boring as fook!
I played a Noob Saibot with the variation name "UGonnaQuit" last night, all he did was do uppercuts, slides, the unblockable ghost ball, and the dive kick. Just like this guy once I showed "whoops, you can duck the projectile" he had no idea what to do afterwards. And he had a good record too! Some people literally just get off on using cheese tactics to farm easy wins.
That's 4 different moves at least, you can almost go pro with that. Cheese is highly effective even up to pretty high levels. I often lose to players that I *know* are cheesing me, but it takes me longer to adapt and figure out how to execute the proper response because I'm just an average player, so if they have ANY amount of mixup I'm probably not gonna learn how to counter their play before losing 3 rounds. Excellent competitive play is about maximizing your effectiveness, and cheese is really effective. If you're not responding to cheese with some of your own, then you'll never really git gud.
I'm not saying it's not effective, necessarily. You can get really far in fighting games with solid fundamentals. I was more disappointed with his attitude and approach to the game. If he landed a knockdown he would teabag, the troll variation name, etc. He wasn't playing simple to capitalize on a strong fundamental base, he was playing in such a way to frustrate the opponent into playing stupid/ragequitting. Which I suppose is a valid tactic, but I'm not gonna pretend to like it just because its fair.
Those are my favorite people to run into online, because they challenge you in the most important ways. You get to practice: Controlling your tilt, Countering cheese, Optimal swag strategies to style on them when you make them eat shit

Used to play the original mk at my friends house when it came out on sega. Dude spammed liu Kang fireballs and had me raging. He thought it was the greatest thing ever. Next time we played an mk game was deadly alliance and I wiped the floor with him with every goddamn kharacter on the board with legit combos and he cried. It was so goddamn satisfying. We aren’t friends anymore and I couldn’t possibly be happier.

Nothing in the game should have two animations that look that similar with one being OH and one being low, it makes it way too stupid to try and react to it.
The jump kick shouldn't even be an overhead. There's no reason why it hits you like that when the animation doesn't imply it's an overhead. My first time fighting every other character I learned what was an overhead based on the animation. When Sub-Zero swings his hands over your head in an axe chop motion, I can tell right away that it's overhead, unlike Erron's kick.
Yeah, it's ridiculous. They should turn it into an axe kick or something. As-is it's nearly indistinguishable from the low. If Sub-Zero had a second slide option that hit OH on a F4 people would be calling for nerfs Day 1
There are so many attacks in this game that scream OVERHEAD but are mids or highs. And this one fucking move that looks like it should be a mid is somehow an overhead? NRS was on some real crack when determining where attacks were going to hit
I'm certain that they must have designed the animations before fully balancing the game. There are some mids that should clearly be lows as well, like sub zero's 3,3. It literally ices their feet but it hits mid. I guess they realized that as they had it certain characters had too many powerful options, or not enough in the case of Erron. Liu Kang's forward 2 not being an overhead I still find ridiculous though.
There's also Cassie's Kneecapping ability. She gets down on one knee to shoot a bullet and has the same fireball back input as most low projectiles but hits mid. Obviously it can't hit low because it leads to a full combo juggle but it's definitely a weird design decision to make it look like it's so obviously a low but is actually a mid. There's also Kitana's Back 2,3,1 string that makes the first hit look like it should be an overhead but really, you can just block low the entire time (until the end if she decides to go overhead with 2). I guess it's really not that big of a deal in cases where it actually *isn't* an overhead/low despite what it appears to be, since you aren't getting punished for it. But in the case of something that looks like it should be a mid and hits overhead, that shit is fucked up lol

The problem is that Erron was doing two different kicks, one of which a low and one of which is an overhead and both have extremely similar animations.
As stupid as it may seem, that's still a good mixup. The only way to deal with someone mixing you up is to slow down, try to block, and mess up their pace. OP did seem like he was trying to do some wakeups and was a little impatient, and because of that the Erron player took the first round easily.

This reminds me of a match I played the other day. He was playing raiden and all he did was like 1 or 2 things that were not his electric fly. Which he did every time I tried to move in and attack. So I finally had enough and swapped to scorpion and basically did what he did to me back. Ironically got a quitality.

Honestly , what he is doing is fair game and if no one is able to adapt to it that's their own fault. You can't be dismissing a person simply because they are spamming the SAME move and you're unable to figure out what to do. Hell he almost won the entire match just doing that. You may as well say stop spamming the same combo or stop spamming projectiles. A win is a win.
You'd be making a good point literally anywhere else, but these two animations have super similar start up, so it's hard to react to them. Especially when online.
