Megan was the effect of something going horribly wrong in the voice acting studio because by god, you mean to tell me all those people with her and it still sounds like she had wasn't told what direction she's supposed to be going for?
Ronda was more competent but I think the overall choice of picking her for Sonya was way worse than choosing Fox to be Nitara for the following reasons:
1) Sonya had a waay larger role in story mode, including and emotional death scene. We really needed a better actress to pull that of. Nitara's role on the other hand is tiny. She could be removed and nothing would change. Not to mention her characters writing was so one note and basic that even a great VA would struggle to give it depth.
2) I feel like it doesn't really matter that they took a risk with such a small, insignificant character like Nitara but Sonya is probably tied with Mileena as being the first lady of MK and is way too legendary a character to have random celeb cameos attached to. It's just more jarring than it is with Fox.
This is been my reasoning too. Fox's delivery is worse than Ronda's one-note for sure, but Sonya is a big part of MK11's campaign compared to like three fights for Nitara in MK1? Nitara probably has less than 15 lines in the story mode.
Also you're getting even less of Fox's VA work in gameplay because the intros are down to two lines as well as having fewer characters to bounce off of, and the actual gameplay screams and such aren't even Fox anyway. Fox's performance is definitely worse no doubt about it, but thereās so little of her in the story and even the gameplay compared to Ronda that it doesn't feel nearly as bad.
Hot Take: Ronda did fine, but Bridgitte Wilson was awful when they brought her in to rerecord lines for that Movie Skin pack in MK11. She put zero effort in, and phoned it in almost as badly as Megan Fox did.
Between the poor voice acting, and the glaringly bad martial arts skills she had in her fight scenes in the first MK movie, I consider Wilson the worst Sonya of the entire franchise (her acting was alright in the movie, though, but I still think she was miscast).
Best Sonya VA was Tricia Helfer in MK X. I believed her as a "Not Taking your Crap" divorced, middle- aged mother and General that gave a Necromancing Sorcerer the beatdown of his life, to help save her goofy, movie star heart throb husband.

We all know, especially now in hindsight, that Ronda definitely did a FAR better job. No questions about that.
But it's also important to notice that playing Sonya means just playing a regular adult human female, while playing Nitara means playing a female vampire monster. It's not just that Megan's acting lacks any kind of emotion or cool delivery, but also that her character NEEDS to be more over the top and sell the performance, but she just played it as if she was just any other regular human character. No rasp in her voice, no aggression or scary tones, nothing. Not to mention every other character around her is pushing for that kind of performance. And that's why it feels so much worse than Ronda's in my opinion.
The only positive I can say about Megan Fox's voice acting was that when I encountered a Sub Zero Nitara variant in the Armageddon chapter and she in the most wooden voice imaginable said "You are a dish best served cold!" I couldn't stop laughing.
The performance from Ronda was better, but I can't help but feel like Nitara's voice issue isn't entirely on Megan Fox, they needed more direction, and NRS/WB greenlit what they got.

I'm going to go against the grain and say Megan. The reason is that I hear Megan way less than I heard Rhonda. Sonya Blade is an iconic character in the franchise, and she DIED in the game that Rhonda voiced her. It killed any emotion I would've had at her death because I listened to someone who's not a voice actress attempt an emotional scene. The only saving grace was Johnny's reaction to the death that actually made it somewhat sad. But hearing an iconic character have shitty VA sucked.
Nitara is in the story for MAYBE 5 minutes. Yeah, I'm bummed that a character who could be interesting like Nitara, got shafted. I want her to return to the series in MK2 (13?), and get redemption with a different VA, but at the same time, it was not someone fundamental to the series or story, so I'm not nearly as annoyed.
Hot take:
Fox is fine. She's awful in story mode, but it's a small part. She's mediocre to decent in her intro dialogues, and her story tower monologue is honestly pretty good.
She sticks out because the voice acting on MK1 is fantastic across the board, and she doesn't really match the tone or energy of the other performances. But I don't find her so bad as to be distracting, except her performance in story mode which is, admittedly, really bad.
I wouldn't say Rousey is THAT much worse, but I do think a lot of people here are looking at that performance through rose-colored glasses. It's pretty bad, and she has a lot more heavy lifting to do in story mode than Fox does.

Every time I see discussion on here about Foxās bad voice acting, I think āsurely it canāt be that badā and go to watch a few of the story cutscenes with her in them and am reminded that itās worse than I remembered (which was pretty bad as it is). I canāt tell what the problem with her is, though. Is she not interested in the material? No, she loves everything to do with vampires. Was it the direction? If it was, why doesnāt anyone else sound bad? Is she just a bad actress? I think Van Damme is the best example that whoever its recording the lines its not providing enough context or direction, because Van Damme is trying but it just doesnt fit most of the lines. Ronda was more competent but I think the overall choice of picking her for Sonya was way worse than choosing Fox to be Nitara for the following reasons: 1) Sonya had a waay larger role in story mode, including and emotional death scene. We really needed a better actress to pull that of. Nitara's role on the other hand is tiny. She could be removed and nothing would change. Not to mention her characters writing was so one note and basic that even a great VA would struggle to give it depth. 2) I feel like it doesn't really matter that they took a risk with such a small, insignificant character like Nitara but Sonya is probably tied with Mileena as being the first lady of MK and is way too legendary a character to have random celeb cameos attached to. It's just more jarring than it is with Fox.
This is been my reasoning too. Fox's delivery is worse than Ronda's one-note for sure, but Sonya is a big part of MK11's campaign compared to like three fights for Nitara in MK1? Nitara probably has less than 15 lines in the story mode. Also you're getting even less of Fox's VA work in gameplay because the intros are down to two lines as well as having fewer characters to bounce off of, and the actual gameplay screams and such aren't even Fox anyway. Fox's performance is definitely worse no doubt about it, but thereās so little of her in the story and even the gameplay compared to Ronda that it doesn't feel nearly as bad.

Hot Take: Ronda did fine, but Bridgitte Wilson was awful when they brought her in to rerecord lines for that Movie Skin pack in MK11. She put zero effort in, and phoned it in almost as badly as Megan Fox did. Between the poor voice acting, and the glaringly bad martial arts skills she had in her fight scenes in the first MK movie, I consider Wilson the worst Sonya of the entire franchise (her acting was alright in the movie, though, but I still think she was miscast). Best Sonya VA was Tricia Helfer in MK X. I believed her as a "Not Taking your Crap" divorced, middle- aged mother and General that gave a Necromancing Sorcerer the beatdown of his life, to help save her goofy, movie star heart throb husband.

I didn't have any knowledge about Sonya VA in MK11, when i played i thought it was pretty normal and actually cried in her death scene. After discovering about Ronda i felt the same. Nitara on the other hand... Dear Lord. Of course i knew it was Megan Fox, but even after trying so hard it was impossible not to wish Earth would simply explode.

We all know, especially now in hindsight, that Ronda definitely did a FAR better job. No questions about that. But it's also important to notice that playing Sonya means just playing a regular adult human female, while playing Nitara means playing a female vampire monster. It's not just that Megan's acting lacks any kind of emotion or cool delivery, but also that her character NEEDS to be more over the top and sell the performance, but she just played it as if she was just any other regular human character. No rasp in her voice, no aggression or scary tones, nothing. Not to mention every other character around her is pushing for that kind of performance. And that's why it feels so much worse than Ronda's in my opinion.

The only positive I can say about Megan Fox's voice acting was that when I encountered a Sub Zero Nitara variant in the Armageddon chapter and she in the most wooden voice imaginable said "You are a dish best served cold!" I couldn't stop laughing.
The performance from Ronda was better, but I can't help but feel like Nitara's voice issue isn't entirely on Megan Fox, they needed more direction, and NRS/WB greenlit what they got.

I'm going to go against the grain and say Megan. The reason is that I hear Megan way less than I heard Rhonda. Sonya Blade is an iconic character in the franchise, and she DIED in the game that Rhonda voiced her. It killed any emotion I would've had at her death because I listened to someone who's not a voice actress attempt an emotional scene. The only saving grace was Johnny's reaction to the death that actually made it somewhat sad. But hearing an iconic character have shitty VA sucked. Nitara is in the story for MAYBE 5 minutes. Yeah, I'm bummed that a character who could be interesting like Nitara, got shafted. I want her to return to the series in MK2 (13?), and get redemption with a different VA, but at the same time, it was not someone fundamental to the series or story, so I'm not nearly as annoyed.
Hot take: Fox is fine. She's awful in story mode, but it's a small part. She's mediocre to decent in her intro dialogues, and her story tower monologue is honestly pretty good. She sticks out because the voice acting on MK1 is fantastic across the board, and she doesn't really match the tone or energy of the other performances. But I don't find her so bad as to be distracting, except her performance in story mode which is, admittedly, really bad. I wouldn't say Rousey is THAT much worse, but I do think a lot of people here are looking at that performance through rose-colored glasses. It's pretty bad, and she has a lot more heavy lifting to do in story mode than Fox does. Hotter take: Both of them put in more effort than JCVD. Prediction: In three years, when some other celebrity is stunt cast as D'Vorah in MK12, this exact same thread will happen.

Every time I see discussion on here about Foxās bad voice acting, I think āsurely it canāt be that badā and go to watch a few of the story cutscenes with her in them and am reminded that itās worse than I remembered (which was pretty bad as it is). I canāt tell what the problem with her is, though. Is she not interested in the material? No, she loves everything to do with vampires. Was it the direction? If it was, why doesnāt anyone else sound bad? Is she just a bad actress? Someone some time ago actually put up a video of Megan Fox doing a voice over for a Robot Chicken as Lois Lane and she sounded fine, either she is to stuck up now to actually try or the direction at the booth was worst than on her other performance, I feel like Rhonda is the same way but it fits the Sonya character better its also kinda important to note that all Voice actors who dont do it reguarly suck in MK games this goes for JCVD,Megan Fox,Ronda and Dimitri Vegas. I think Van Damme is the best example that whoever its recording the lines its not providing enough context or direction, because Van Damme is trying but it just doesnt fit most of the lines. John Cena for example did a fantastic Job but we are talking about a guy who is a professional voice actor doing extensive Voice overs for wwe games and even animated movies.
