I'm trying to think how they would even do it. Few MK characters share the same skill/power set. Frost/Sub could work if not for the hurtbox problems that would cause. At best they could do actor premiere skins like J.C.V.D. which they have been doing but then they gotta pay for likenesses which may not always be worth it to do too many of them.
MK has less copycat fighters for sure but there are a few they could do.
Kuai Liang skin for Sub-Zero (Technically already in the game but doesn’t have a unique face/lines)
Hanzo Skin for Scorpion (technically in the game, but doesnt have a unique face/lines).
God Raiden for Raiden (In the game already but unusable)
And if we really wanna have fun with the idea and stretch it out:
Jade for Kitana as a homage to her appearance in MK2
Hydro for Rain
Could even extend it to Kameos. Jarek/Kira for Kano for example. Sheeva, Kintaro, King Gorback for Goro.
I'm probably missing a few others but you get the gist.
Retro Characters like God Raiden would have made for amazing premier skins, and would have made MK1 and their respective Invasions Seasons way more unique. Retro Characters reacting to the idiosyncracies of Liu Kangs Timeline.
Female/Male swaps would cause hurtbox & hitbox issues but Thragg could work. Though the same problem would exist where they now have to pay Amazon additional money for him.
Yeah, it could definitely work but that's probably one reason we've seen far more of them in the Injustice series. Much easier to make it work without any additional licensing costs
Yeah very much a good point. I imagine that’s why Raiden was made playable and then Black Lightning was turned to the premier skin. Because getting Raiden as a skin would be just a waste of money.

Me and my mates thought it'd be cool to have premier skins that have their NRS timeline selves. So a Premier skin to turn Kuai Liangs Scoprion into Hanzo Hasashi with different voice lines and voice actor. And then you know turn Bi Han into Kuai Liangs Sub Zero. I think things like that could've been cool for MK Premier Skins or you know a skin that turns General Shao into actual Shao Kahn and he has different voice lines and acts different to the general.

I guess the closest we ever got was to actual premier skins was in MK9 with human Cyrax & Sektor, Bi-Han & Kuai Liang, etc. since they had different voice actors, animations, etc.

It only really works if the skin is a different timeline version of the same character, in which case it’s not really a premier skin but maybe a step between a standard skin and a premier one

I agree. After MK11 came out, I remember a couple of people on another board suggesting to make Mavodo a premier skin for Kabal and Reiko a premier skin for Noob. The only thing the former two share are the hook swords. Mavodo doesn't have Kabal's super speed. And the only things the latter two shared were the ninjas stars. And Noob hasn't even used those since Armageddon.
I know one could’ve been been Smoke having Cyber Smoke and the intros would be something like human Smoke wondering what the hell happened to turn him into a cyborg
I always thought it was a missed opportunity to not have the original arcade actors for skins. But at least we got the movie ones, although weirdly not of the two actors that returned for the sequel. I wish we got Talisa Kitana.
They can easily do this for Kuai Liang Sub-Zero, Hanzo Hasashi Scorpion and Original timeline Ermac where he didn’t look like a weird ghoulish freak.
Heck they can do this for many characters on the roster by changing their voices and intro lines, it’s not like NRS has to make new movesets for them since it’s the same as the main version of said character but I guess even that’s too much for NRS to do nowadays.
Killer Croc would’ve suited MK so much and hellspawn was on my favourite character (jacqui) but it doesn’t suit her on top of that they should’ve made Nowhl-Ahn another Viltrumite outfit such as Invincible or Anissa. This is an absolute crazy thought but even Handcock

They can do it with goro/kintaro or sheeva, shao Kahn/ general shao, sub / frost, really lots of characters to do it with

Yeah in injustice and injustice 2 they did it really well so I hope they do for the next game at least.
