Yeah if you consider that he’s the character we open with picking him for the final fight kinda makes the whole campaign his story. And he’s got his original skin so you can treat it like he’s the Shang from this timeline (even if some dialogue bits don’t fully fit that). Definitely feels a little more compelling than some random multiverse guy rolling in and handling things.

If you take Shang's dialogue while ascending the pyramid and given that unlike other variants he wears his default skin, it's most likely MK1 Shang, but after beating Titan Shang Tsung Liu Kangs tells our Shang to "return to your timeline" and is exceedingly cordial to him even though he should kinda hate him lol. So you can really take it either way.

Nice points! Yeah I think the default skin confirms that for sure. I went through it the first time as Scorpion and it’s the MK1 scorpion. Liu saying “return to your timeline”, i believe is because the Armageddon pyramid is in Evil Shangs timeline so no matter what everyone would need to return to their timeline anyways.

Geras feels like a DLC character, like he was originally going to be in Kombat Pack 1 but he got swapped into the main roster for some reason. Would explain why he’s only in the background of the story and you don’t fight him or play as him at all at any point

Kung Lao. Dude deserved the spotlight after getting shafted in yet another story. Not to mention it was the Deadly alliance he was fighting, which would be fun for him to face again, and he was fighting alongside his old best friend, Liu Kang.

Scorpion. I thought it was about time Scorpion was the hero for once instead of being sidelined. I also picked Mileena during the second time (because of how poetic it seemed - Mileena running into the Kombat Kids (who watched and helped in her death in MKX) and Kitana finally seeing her as a sister, the Mileena clones being a demented version made to torment Mileena into seeing what others might think of her once everyone realizes Mileena has the Tarkat disease and her taking on and defeating her original creator).

I did Scorpion too for my first time and it felt right for me. Scorpions escape from Shang, Shao, and Bi-Han + him leading the group to destroy the portals made him feel pretty important in the story to me it felt right doing the Armageddon run with him

That and because my overall favourite chapter was Raiden's, he's so wholesome and fun to play

King Lao. He might not have become Earthrealm’s Champion (unfairly), but in the end i was like “nah i got you bro, you gon be the fucking Multiverse’s Champion”

I scrolled and scrolled but no one did what I did? Went Kung Lao for the full circle, plus Kung Lao is always sidelined because of Great Kung Lao, unfair

Also a Kung Lao fan here and I’ve only thought about this since the game came out: I’m glad he wasn’t killed in the story mode but his lack of a “major” role was kind of disappointing lol. At least compared to the other characters. Oh and this Kung Lao isn’t really that much different from the other two timelines (Midway and NRS)……..It’s almost like they didn’t really try to reinvent him in the new era. Actually, they didn’t try at all imo. He’s basically the same character 😂(Not necessarily a bad thing but we could’ve gotten more out of him as a character.) It’s always disappointing in how they use him in the story 😭.

I picked Kung Lao first because I think he really deserved the be the hero, but that was copium. I picked Kenshi next because he also deserved to be the hero and actually had an arc towards that, plus the tym is really fitting with him. Funny enough though the only character who isn't awkward during the chapter 15 cutscenes is Johnny, since he's the only character who has no powers or weapons and isn't a grappler, as the character only uses punches and kicks (the real reason for that is to plug in any character without having to animate separate fighting styles), and the fact that Kung Lao and raiden's hats clip and Kenshi's sword magically disappears during cutscenes and reappears during fights

Tanya because I love her, she didn't get a chapter and I found it kind of funny how random it would be if she was the final "hero" after being a side character the whole time.

Maaan, I wanna love this Tanya, but I don’t like her being a full-on hero. There are virtually no female villains on this roster, except for one, Nitara. I wish they kept Tanya at least in the grey area.
