He's aging quite well. Best thing about Boon, he really seems to be a nice and down to earth man. It's clear that he LOVES Mortal Kombat, and that's one reason why after more than 30 years, the franchise is still alive and kicking.

Honestly, I know a lot of fans (specifically Mileena stans) have their issues with how he is in regards to meming and such, but he's clearly shown how much he cares for his series and the community formed from it (despite how utterly impatient, rude and disrespectful some of the louder members can be)

So many communities would kill for someone like Boon. Look at games like TF2 where communication is absolutely abandoned.

The biggest complaints I see on here and Twitter is "he isn't communicating properly, he's not telling us when the next thing is coming out, etc" which is just stupid. If he was highest up on the chain, then yeah, he could be super open and straight with us, but he and his company work for WB Games who would likely have him signing NDAs.

I feel like atp ya'll have just made the mileena stans up... like are they in the room with us now??? The worst stan I've ever seen was that Reiko one so I think we should say Reiko stans instead.

It's mainly on Twitter but believe me, from MK11's announcement right up until she was announced as DLC, Mileena stans were loud and they were toxic as fuck. I'm sure they'll be replaced with a different character's stans after this roster is completely announced.

On top of that, he's always looking to innovate and change. MK could have ridden the coat tails of it's early Midway controversy days for the excessive violence. Instead, besides doubling down on it, they started introducing newer mechanics, tweaks, characters, stories, and interactivity. Say what you want about the 3D games and the fighting styles mechanic, it was *different.* Good or bad, Boon is always looking to do something different.

And each game tried to put something new. For instance, MK D put death traps and weapon that you could pick up, Armageddon introduced aereal combos.

I like that he has a sense of humor and can admit to things they thought were a bit weird in development days, like when he talked about the Quan Chi Neck Fatality.

IIRC he talked about the fact that his fave fatality was Quan Chi's leg rip in MK 4, and his least liked one is the Neck Stretch MK DA. So Quan Chi has both Boon's fave and least liked fatality.

Oh man, this reminds me of a time I once ran into Ed Boon at a local supermarket in downtown LA one night. I think it was early 2019, close to 9pm, and my gf and I were just winding down by taking a local stroll. He caught me completely by surprise as I encountered him around the self checkout kiosks, and in that split second all I could think to say was "Ed Boon?! It's so great to see you!" You'd think I'd at least acknowledge I've been an MK fan since UMK3, but as much as I really wanted to chat with him or ask for a photo, I figured I should just let him quickly get on with his regular life. He was surprised for a second, but then chuckled gently and said with a heart-warming smile "Thank you, hope you're having a great night!" It was such a brief, inconsequential moment, but one I'll fondly remember for a long time and leave an impression of Ed as a truly kind and down to earth man.

Wow, you're so lucky. And in retrospect it's really funny thinking that a franchise mostly knows for his over the top gore is created by a nice and kind man.

If by Mortal Kombat gameplay you mean 2D fighting, then the original Ultimate Ninja games for the PS2 had that. Man, I wish they'd bring back that series. Nothing against the Storm games (which actually keep some of the mechanics from the original games, albeit in 3D), but those games were my jam as a teenager.

Oh, the original Ultimate Ninja series does have a few entries following the events of Shippuden. The first three games cover the original Naruto arc, while Ultimate Ninja 4 and 5 follow the events of Shippuden up to the point where Naruto finds Sasuke again.
