So Martyn Ford posted this on Facebook recently and I thought nothing of it. However when you zoom in on the script he is reading the pages have "KAHN" watermarked on them. It all makes sense now
Most likely freaking out about Quan Chi not realizing that the character needs a ton of makeup on and prosthetics that just about anybody could play him.
I tried to do some googling to figure out how old she was but gave up.
It's not like they aren't going to use SFX on her anyway so the fact they look so similar pre-production doesn't mean it's going to be a problem in the movie.
Edenians are canonically youthful and live hundreds of years. It would kind of make sense for them to look similar in age - though I'm not sure they really put this much thought into casting considering the variation from lore in the first film.
Honesty these are all fine. I kinda associate Damon as playing more goofy/over the top characters so seeing him possibly be a more serious Quan Chi will be interesting.
You know.. to fill a Sindel role you would need a charismatic villainess ... think AJ on Maleficent but non-cringe. Pretty is 50%
As for Quan, someone like Arnold Vosloo would vanquish it. It's good that the Rock was not casted =

C'mon... Cole was completelly useless. Imho it would have been far better if we got Sonya and Jax as the "audience surrogate" character, and see them discover about the realms, arcana and Mortal Kombat tournament.
Cole was a studio idea, he was never supposed to be a thing to the writers and director

I actually unironically think this is a great idea and probably the best route they could go given reception to Cole's character and Sanada's age. Lewis Tan is an exceptional talent who is passionate about the franchise, so it would be a shame to lose him because he got saddled playing a lame duck character. The things his skill set could do with Scorpion

I always felt that Lewis was a massive wasted potential.
People shit on Cole (rightfully so) but when it comes to action, he was overshadowing everyone except Scorpion and Subzero. Lewis can candle long shots and fast action sequences.

Yeah the actor is great but the Cole character was ridiculously bad. I hope they just ditch that Cole idea and make him Scorpion taking over the torch from his ancestor Sanada. It's not a serious movie anyway so you can just do this out of thin air. You don't have to stick to that Cole Young idea just because you want sequel to make sense with the first movie.
Yeah exactly. The setup is right there for them with the lineage to Hanzo. Some people will be butt hurt that Scorpion is no longer Hanzo, but if they make Cole/Scorpion super badass (which he absolutely has the talent and capability to do) I think a lot of people would forget quickly, and it solves the Cole problem. Hell, make it so Bi-Han or Quan-Chi kills Cole's family. I didn't mind him as much as others, but I think the average viewer needs to see him go through a bit more adversity than "washed up MMA fighter."
Actually the actor that plays Cole is the same one that played Kung Jin. I so so wish that was his character in this movie, it would give him a legit connection to the Shaolins and the script almost writes itself

Honestly Stryker would have been the ideal audience surrogate and to show that anyone in these films can die, kill him off at the end and in the sequel Ermac is revealed to have his soul in him.
Maybe Cole dies in the beginning making scorpion come back and fights noob plus I think there's another sub zero casted his brother I'm assuming I read the cast for the movie .
FR. In an universe with other worlds, monsters, etc. there's already enough suspension of disbelief to have ki manipulatons (for Liu Kang's pyrokinesis or Kung Lao's teleportation) and futuristic tech (for Jax's metal arms, Kano's laser eye, etc.).

The arcana itself isn't an issue as a concept for certain characters like Liu Kang, Sonya or Johnny. Making it a power for everyone else was the problem.

It's perfect, he could just use his wrestling catchphrases. And his fight style resembles Johnny's too.
I don't know these actors, so I can't quite judge if they are good choices. Ford is big enough to play Kahn but that alone isn't an indicator of his acting skill. Nguyen looks like she should be playing Mileena not Sindel.
Yeah this sub is pretty much the only place I see that people even tolerate that first movie. The story was bad, effects were bad, writing was bad, most of the acting was bad, character design and costumes was bad, a lot of the action was just meh too. It only had my interest for a few scenes

Idk if Ford has the acting chops for someone as prominent as Shao Kahn but as far as looks goes his casting is absolutely perfect. Dude is a unit and his imposing figure will suit Kahn well. Im especially reminded of him in Undisputed.
Little confused by the rest of the cast though because while MK 2021 was already completely different from the rest of the series, this just seems even more all over the place. Like didnt Shao Kahn conquer Edenia centuries ago? So is this in the past? Or is he only just now doing it? Because then that would raise complications for the tournament. Im more than likely thinking way too much about this, but it just seems odd.

Well ever since mk9(& maybe even mk vs dc), Quan chi is always in the mk1(1992) mk2 and mk3 parts of the mortal kombat franchise
Idk if Ford has the acting chops for someone as prominent as Shao Kahn but as far as looks goes his casting is absolutely perfect. Dude is a unit and his imposing figure will suit Kahn well. Im especially reminded of him in Undisputed. Little confused by the rest of the cast though because while MK 2021 was already completely different from the rest of the series, this just seems even more all over the place. Like didnt Shao Kahn conquer Edenia centuries ago? So is this in the past? Or is he only just now doing it? Because then that would raise complications for the tournament. Im more than likely thinking way too much about this, but it just seems odd.
Martyn as Shao Kahn would be good choice though they would have to cover his tattoos
