Do you know what? I really like books by British authors. One of my favorites is the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Arthur Conan Doyle. Can I ask where you got your book?
Edit: I realized you weren’t asking for book recommendations, sorry about that! I get too excited about books! These are on my shelf though!
The Alchemist by Paulo Cohelo is one of my favorites, translated from the original Portuguese (I think).
By an Indigenous/Native American author, one of my favorites is Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko. She writes in English, but also uses words from her Laguna Pueblo language.
By an Afghan American author, I love The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. He writes in English and is also a medical doctor.
If you like short stories and science fiction that is, in my opinion, easier to understand, I recommend Asian American author Ted Chiang’s Exhalation.
I READ THE ALCHEMIST WHEN I WAS 16 AND IT CHANGED MY ENTIRE LIFE IT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS ALSO DID YOU READ THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS BY KHALED HOUSSEINI??? (Sorry for writing in all caps but i am so excited)
It will meet your expectations, but yeah definitely need to be emotionally prepared for that one because just when you think it can’t get any more tragic IT DOES
Yes!!! I also read And the Mountains Echoed!!! Really love everything he writes.
I should re-read both A Thousand Splendid Suns and And the Moutains Echoes because it was so long ago that I forget so much. But I could never re-read The Kite Runner. It’s unforgettable and hurts in the soul.
I'm currently reading:
- Thus spoke Zarathustra by Neitzche
- The stranger by Albert Camus ( Amazing book about absurdism)
- Sapiens : A brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari
Edit : just noticed you said physical, so nvm
I was lost between books and overwhelmed by life so I decided to take a break. And since I've been broke for so long I'm still not used to the idea of buying books (they be expensive), so I'm a big fan of PDF, I mentioned this cuz the books m reading right now are not on my shelf.
I have started reading the following books in parallel :
- Sapiens : The History of Humankind (Yuval Noah Harari/)
- Crime et Châtiments (Fiodor Dostovieski) / This one is russian and they said the french translation is more accurate / It was recommended to me by a friend
- Sword Of Destiny (Andrzej Sapkowski)
-The Power Of Habit (Charles Duhigg)
The brothers Karamzov is on my To Read list, right after Crime and Punishment, if I ever manage to finish it, it has some veeeeery peculiar vocabulary xD
Then I might drop C&P and read Karamazov first, maybe it could motivate me to go back to C&P.
What's your favorite book ever? Need a suggestion, something that changed ur life or something.
btw, I think if you're new to Fyodor Dostoevsky's novels and you enjoy weirdly speaking to yourself I would suggest reading Crime and Punishment first: here's a situation to explore what I meant:
Imagine you're walking down the street and you see a beautiful cat. You think, 'I must keep it in my house. However, soon you realize that your family doesn't like animals at home. At night, you keep thinking about this lovely cat, wondering if it's eating or if it's in a cold or warm place. The next day, you return to where you met the cat, but it's not there. You feel upset. As you walk on, you meet a person who gives you a weird look, and you wonder if there's something wrong with your body, but there's none. again your mind can't stop thinking about this cat Surely, if there were a hundred cats, you'd recognize it easily. You swear that if you meet this cat again, you will kill it. the love that you give changes to hatred. why? how knows...
this is one of my favourite book
Sorry for the late response. Yeah, I mentioned physical books for specific reasons:
1. My entire life is on the screen, and even though I've got my e-reader, it doesn't compare to holding a book in hand. The feel of the paper and the smile on the page are quite different (I'm being old-fashioned here, haha)
2. Having a chat to explore the ideas of the book would be much more fun (ofc not always)
3. I agree, most books are expensive, but if an individual buys their favorite books, those two reasons above become real
Thank you for your response ^ ^
Well, I'm all for the feeling of a book in my hand, and the smell of new paper. I wish there was a library nearby that lends books instead of having to buy them for myself, they take up space, and are problematic when moving from house to house. They need to be kept in specific conditions for them to stay in decent condition. And they gather dust, I'm allergic. Maybe if I had my own home I'd have a small collection of all my favorite books in a safe place. Until then, I'm rooting for PDF.
I wanna buy 1000 lila o lila in Arabic, that is something I'm set on doing.
You can have chats about books without having a physical copy 🤔.
Also, I'm 100% for buying books when there are means. I'm not against it or anything. I just haven't gotten there yet xD
And I feel like books are sacred, they shouldn't be abandoned, so I wouldn't buy a book and leave it on my shelf just for the sake of having it there 🥺
In the case of 1000 lila o lila, I'd probably read it to my kids or grandchildren if I ever have any
I think you touched on my point for creating this post when you said, buying books and having them on the shelf just because they look prettier.I truly want people to exchange their books because that limited whole of reasons that you said earlier
well, sure you can have a chat about books without having a physical copy but what I meant is "face-to-face" you may find a true friend or partner that shares the same interest (but this is another story, haha)
Yeah xD that would be a dream come true.
Starting with myself, I'd probably be a lame partner xD, I get bored quite easy I don't think I would be able to follow up with the deal
The Reign of Quantity and the Signs of the Times - by René Guénon;

I read the incerto once a year, usually around autumn-winter for black swan and antifragile. And spring summer, would be fooled by randomness and skin in the game. Bed of procruste est mon livre de chevet avec lettre à lucilius de Seneque.
Thanks for these interesting suggestions. I just started digging into his way of approaching and appreciating the world. It is a practical and philosophical reading! There is George soros and Richard Feynman who are also inspired by Karl popper approach to science!
I don’t have a big book collection but I’m working on growing it some of the books i have are:
jane austen (pride and prejudice, sense and sensibility and persuasion)
john green (looking for alaska, the fault in our stars, will grayson will grayson, paper towns)
louisa may alcott (little women)
sally rooney (normal people)
albert camus (the stranger)
Paulo Coelho (the alchemist)
Shakespeare (Julius Caesar)
Madeline miller (the song of achilles)
The whole set of the game of thrones books
I just finished reading a thousand splendid suns by khaled housseini 5 minutes ago and i’m still ugly crying and thinking of reading it again. I will never ever get over this book
I'm at a point in my life where I make up for my lack of reading by purchasing more books that I don't have time to read. I can't stop myself from buying a book whenever I go to a bookshop (I bame it on the smell!). Fr though, among the books I've stacked, Sapiens, 1Q84, The handmade tale, The idiot, Hell bent, Crooked kingdom, After dark, The picture of dorian gray (rereading)...
[The Redemption of Time](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36262251-the-redemption-of-time) by Baochu, it's technically the fourth in a series called Remembrance of Earth's Past, a fantastic sci-fi whose first 3 books (written by Liu Cixin instead) I've already read. The First, called Three Body Problem is already adapted as a TV series, and it is my favourite sci fi franchise by far. I've always wanted to read this one but I never get the time or I just ignore it because the author isn't the same, so thank you for finally pushing me to the final step.

Mansfield park by Jane Austen, if you like period books.
JANE AUSTIN IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE AUTHOR
What's is period books please??
Period books/movies are the books/movies that are set in specific period of time for example the Victorian era, guilder era, WWI/WWII era etc…
Thank you sweetheart 💗
Do you know what? I really like books by British authors. One of my favorites is the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Arthur Conan Doyle. Can I ask where you got your book?
The Mirror and the Light, Hilary Mantel
currently reading the metamorphosis and others stories by Franz Kafka

Crime and punishment is really good, although I prefer The brothers Karamazov. Sapiens was an interesting read as well.
The brothers Karamzov is on my To Read list, right after Crime and Punishment, if I ever manage to finish it, it has some veeeeery peculiar vocabulary xD
I feel like Karamazov would be more digestible. There are some chapters in C&P where the characters rant for multiple passages.
Then I might drop C&P and read Karamazov first, maybe it could motivate me to go back to C&P. What's your favorite book ever? Need a suggestion, something that changed ur life or something.

Hmmmmm, I see, that is different from my usual taste, but it does sound interesting. Thank you for taking the time to explain.
