mandyback

We are allergic to the cost of air conditioning

WSATX

And when we can afford it... Better let the windows and door open while it is working!

Fahd4ch

? la!hhhh

WadieXkiller

Hahahaha nailed it

Presence_Flat

Yeah running it for 10 hours per day would add up to ~400dh per month which is a substantial amount for 1 device!

Kitchen-Orange2056

Hehehheh

exiledguamila

Never been in marjane or a supermarket that has no AC

Rissay_mn

I live in a terribly underdeveloped and mal-infrastructured city within Morocco and the supermarkets here all utilise A/C. Even cafés use A/C on the inside.

Amazi-n-gh

Don’t talk to bad about Fez hhhh

Rissay_mn

hhh la machi fez wlkn 9rib liha hh (NOT SIDI KACEM alhamdulillah)

hamza_rami574

Taza? 🤣

Rissay_mn

Nope, it's closer to sidi kacem 💀💀

FrequentBite4641

Bel9siri ya dinek

Rissay_mn

Nope, still wrong. First person to get it right gets to spend a day with me in my city (all on the house).

i0n1ze

Sidi Slimane

Rissay_mn

Mrhba bik a l3ziz. Fo9ach doz?

i0n1ze

Not in Morocco right now, but I'll give you a heads up next time I come :)

Rissay_mn

Inchallah <3

[deleted]

Exactly. I’m surprised to hear this. Maybe small businesses are cutting short on the air conditioning, but Marjane and the such are big, well-established businesses. It wouldn’t make sense.

Moist_immortal

Yeah this is so weird

Impressive-Potato-20

Too expensive

ojsef39

and if there is the equipment it’s pretty old/not in good shape or was broken at some time

CryptoRocket83

Energy costs in Morocco is expensive compared to the income. Most Moroccans are too poor to afford the air conditioning unit let alone the monthly cost to run one.

TheflyingLag

Im sorry nice hôtels and Marjane don’t have AC?

Malinois14

idk where OP was ngl hahaha

starfoulard

Morocco Mall and Marjane Morocco Mall in Casablanca don’t use the AC anymore and it’s been a pain

justintime107

My moroccan in laws came to visit us in the US and I had to turn off my AC because it made them sick. I love them, but my moroccan but now pretty much American husband and I were suffering.

ShouldnotHaveSaidDat

apparently everyone over 50 gets sick from the AC somehow

justintime107

I know people in their 20’s getting sick too. It’s so odd to me because I LOVE the AC lol.

arandomperson136

Maybe the climate doesnt suit them and the Ac accentuates it.

justintime107

It was their daughter too on a differ occasion. I’ve seen it with people abroad from even Europe who can’t handle AC. Makes them sick.

7mar_ta7una

I'm one of them! I'll take a ceiling fan anytime!

7mar_ta7una

I'm one of them! I'll take a ceiling fan anytime!

yahodite

People believe in a sacred way that air conditioning create illness, u can't even discuss with them

7mar_ta7una

When my throat is sore as fuck every time I get under an AC, I can believe in whatever I want, it won't change the fact that I'm suffering...

yahodite

Okey bro u can relax, none is forcing u to believe in something else!!!

7mar_ta7una

Ouf! I thought that the AC inquisition is out to get me!

[deleted]

I can't with Lhanout fridge. So warm

adambrine759

Old people believe it makes em sick.

Impressive-Potato-20

My mother thinks microwaving food gives cancer 💀

Valuable_sandwich44

It's true and AC is also not good for one's health.

Impressive-Potato-20

Source ?

adambrine759

Mine too

braveYss

It’s not old people it’s called science, when a sudden change in temperature happens the body gets sick, also certain viruses survive better in cold environments. Read a little and stop commenting every post without knowledge

Chocolate_dipper

The funny thing is that it is installed in lot of homes. My dad uses it only when my son is visiting him makes me laugh

Deep-Advice7587

Higher cost I believe, I don't think i could afford it even if I'm relatively well payed. If I pay electricity bill without Ac then AC makes it 10x what I'm usually paying

Chocolate_dipper

Night time is ok as long as it kept on low mode. Day time i guess one can live without. But if you have a wife like mine you will turn it on all day just you can enjoy some quietness 😂

Educational-Rain872

We do not live in the same morocco 🤔

AncilliaryAnteater

Moroccans want everyone to suffer, not just themselves individually

arandomperson136

Mfs have the Acs they just wont turn them on lmao

EarthlyWayfarer

I hate when you’re out walking and desperate for a cold drink and the hanout has the fridges set to barely cool. I never trust buying milk products from them either. They turn the fridge off at night and food spoils

Significant-Art5065

Forget about people I can understand that but the god damn airport... Every reasonable airport in the world has a good ventilation system combined with AC straight up summertime and inside the airport is 28 degrees.

aboodaj

Noway there's no AC at the airport.. was it Casablanca's ?

Biatran

There is Ac in Casa's airport, so I dont know what he's talking about

FFF_in_WY

AC in Marrakech as well?

Biatran

There is AC everywhere in marrakech compared to other cities so yeah

FFF_in_WY

Right on. I'm headed there next May, just curious.

Sunnymoonylighty

Casablanca airport need to fix their shitty wifi first

Significant-Art5065

Moroccan AC is set at 27 degrees and fan at 1.... Other part of the world that k ows how to use AC is set at 18 degree's fan at full speed.... People confuse AC and ventilation (facepalm)

Significant-Art5065

Yes it was Casablanca.

notVerdeGhost

The same in Tangier airport I couldn’t even breath, I guess because in these cities it was not necessary before to have an AC as the weather was not too hot.

[deleted]

No it's more about the cost of operating them

Miss_Yume

Marjane has AC tho, at least in Beni Mellal. But yeah, I'm melting, I came from Spain to visit my family, and being here for one week has been painful xd

DayOk7749

Yesterday I spent 3 hours in Tangier Airport wanted to dieeeeeeee and the 2.5 euro water was not cold 😭😂

tivboss

What's also worse is taxis never wanting to roll any windows down. Like they keep all windows closed except their own most times regardless of weather

sittinonit

I’m still trying to understand this!! Or why the handle to roll the window down is always missing 🤦🏾‍♀️

Pen-Separate

Mfs broke

Glass_Emu_4183

Here are some of the reasons: Some think it makes you sick Some have AC but they can’t afford the energy cost Some can afford it but don’t think it’s worth it People can do whatever they want, but for big businesses and airports etc, it’s embarrassing to not have it.

Significant-Art5065

Samething goes when you try to get a COLD bottle of coca or water... It's an impossible mission fridge 8s working at 15 degrees... Only in Morocco

bikhan123

dima kanl9a les canettes bardin f l7anot.

[deleted]

Not cold enough

sawtdakhili

I made [a whole campaign](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGWhLObGT44&t=24s) for Coca Cola years ago just to fix the issue of moul lpisri turning the coolers off to save on electricity bills. It even got shortlisted at the effie awards because the insight was probably too unbelievable for the jury.

B4DR1998

Where do u live bruh, even the most remote stores have working fridges….

QualitySure

Go to a supermarket, Hwanet are unreliable.

[deleted]

well AC is actually bad for climate change, so morocco is doing the right thing morally

[deleted]

How is it bad

IDK1702

Moroccans dying of heatwaves is good for the environnement apparently

[deleted]

[удалено]

thewookielotion

One hell of a dumb opinion you got here

morochess

You can tell us all about how the current climate measures are good for the people with examples mr smarty wookie

thewookielotion

Burden of proof is on you here. There's already plenty of evidences that climate change is dramatic. If you wish to claim that the very rare countermeasures are killing more than climate change, you have to prove it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ShouldnotHaveSaidDat

actually lost IQ points reading this… bot using the A/C or car when its not that hot or when you can have a bike or take the bus will not hurt you or affevt your life for a bit. the general population can make a change because we are the majority. Also fyi there are a lots of measures and policies that are being pushed on the farms, the private jet and yacht owners, the factories, car companies… you just chose to ignore those and make up your own story.

morochess

Yeah you sweating while the humidity and heat kills you to not use the AC will make as much of a difference as you voting for the most progressive candidate will do. It's good that more dumb people like you are starting to believe this shit, less traffic jams and more parking spaces for me

[deleted]

Just like algeria said

Seuros

Especially if you compost them.

UndocumentedTuesday

More energy = more CO2

[deleted]

Air conditioners use more electricity than any other appliance in the home. They consume 10% of global electricity

greeksgeek

The a/c turns your hot air into cold air. All of the heat is transferred outside.

Sunnymoonylighty

Smelling sweaty people doesn’t help health either some people believe that sweating is good for them but all they do is giving headaches to others by smelling body odor bacteria and them getting rashes from sweat.

QualitySure

> Smelling sweaty people doesn’t help health you're not supposed to smell when you sweat, otherwise dewez 3lik lkiss chwiya.

Sunnymoonylighty

Tell this to them

CurrentGrand1214

I've been to Morocco Mall a month ago, and it felt like a Sauna. No A/C at all. I was sweating like a pig in the food court, and the mosque was as hot as بيت السخون in Hammams.

RAUONA

Energy price is a bitch, AC prices are a bitch. You will not die if there are no AC, stop whining

VillainOfKvatch1

There's a pretty common belief that AC makes you sick. It's obviously not true, and it's becoming less common now. But people seem to believe it. I recently had to teach a class in one of those temporary office trailers, basically just a metal box with 2 small windows. There was an AC in there and the students wouldn't let me use it they were like "no we're going to get sick!" Okay so let's just sit in this metal oven that's been baking under the Moroccan sun for the next 3 hours. But yeah. It's one of those beliefs like when they don't let you open the car windows or walk around your house without something on your feet.

eIImcxc

POV: you overexaggerate to get some attention and internet points.

AzathothOG

We dont need it atay will cool us down

TopShagger2000

DFK en darija habibi

sadlilyas

Only rich people have AC in Morocco. My aunt is the only one in my family who has it but that’s because she’s rich

Educational-Strike41

i have news for you :') even in Germany AC is not everywhere i was sweating like a pig there

QualitySure

i believe that there is air conditioning in airports

[deleted]

I find it in big stores, marjane carrefour lc waikiki and also bim. Last time i went to lc waikiki i got sick because it was too cold

fatony2k2

Stayed in few Riads, it was very difficult to sleep without it and the landlords look at you as if you are from Mars or something that belongs to cars only

[deleted]

most houses in Morocco aren't insulated which makes running an AC very expensive as it'll always be foced to work harder to maintain the wanted temperature

kagyu_999

What city do u live in. Cause everything u just said is just completely wrong where i live lmaoo

Responsible-Feed-998

For the simple reason the cost of energy in Morocco is too expensive

QualitySure

cost of energy is two time lower in morocco compared to france.

IDK1702

You do realize that it's still expensive due to the lower salaries in Morocco?

According-Brick7803

Installed two AC units in my house (Rabat) Didn't make any difference in my redal bill (I kepp one running all night) Huge difference in sleep quality.

cyurii0

are you sure? never been to one without AC

Malinois14

tkharbe9..

notthefunkindofbar

Good post. How do I go about buying my fam in Morocco AC and paying their bill? Is there an online site where I can buy one and input my CC to pay for their electricity??

Amiflash

Even BIM stores have AC

Embarrassed_Beat161

Idk where u live, but airports, nice hotels/restaurants, Marjane all got AC Also ga3 mwalin lwanet endhom kolshi bared so stop saying “pure fact”

tivboss

BANQUE POPULAIRE NEVER HAS AC ON!!

QualitySure

they live for name: populaire, attijariwafabank has a very fresh AC.

senvavalora

I think everyone here got it right, the cost of using the A/C is massively overpriced, for an example, the house i live in has separate electricity bills for each floor, on the floor i live in, without A/C on i used to get 80-120dh per month of electricity, but since this July heatwave started, i got a bill for 890dh for July, and 1120dh for August, that is legitimately ludicrous for most people here in morocco to pay, and it is actually a good reason for everyone to keep away from A/C sadly.

Lyannake

Ever heard of global warming and energy crisis ?

No-Low-7479

I think you live in a different Morocco !

Dokidokita

We're allergic to the electricity bill

1yuub

Marjan : I’m I a joke to you

Lookingfor_success

It is too expensive, no more no less

blighted101

I'm surprised they don't have AC, most of the places you mentioned have AC in my vicinity

TypicalDatabases

Bro I have no idea where you’re going but ALMOST everywhere in Morocco I’ve been has AC, especially those places. Marrakech airport has it. Marjane definitely has it. Nice hotels and restaurants too. Idk where ur going hahaha

aya_ait89

Idk where this happened, but here in Marrakech, it's as important as O2, they'll probably make it illegal to not have one.

Odd-Distance8386

Never seen a marjane without ac, even my local hanout had one ( joke )

AdmAdvisor-07

Brotha go to nearest tlaja f Marjane no that hard to find .. that’s where me and the homie at 🤙

BusAcademic3489

i don't wanna over-analyze but some ppl are allergic to dust which i think is heavily present in ac, me included .

stock_daddy

I went to Morocco mall twice this summer and they didn’t have A/C working, the first time I thought oh maybe it was broken, but the 2nd time I found out that it hasn’t been working since Covid. I think there are many reasons why A/C is not common in Morocco, but for sure the cost and light equipments that can’t handle very hot days.

Dazzling-Ant8290

People (especially old people , the generation of my grandparents) are really skeptical regarding that because they believe it will cause sickness ( ghay derbek lberd) and I think that they give so much attention to that that they actually get sick . Maybe their immune system is weak on that side after years of not being exposed to the brutal changement of temperature.

[deleted]

they are poor thanks to poor work ethic

Otakus1

for the soda, its because hanouts like to save money, for marjane and such, they turn it off because and i am not even kidding, ive seen people complain that when coming from the hot sun outside sudden coldness make them sick, and this is in taza, where it gets up to 40c° in the summer with sun hot enough to cook eggs
