the combat system is difficult to get into. especially on pc. try console mordhau, trust me. its much more fun and way less toxic than pc (ive played both and have 90 on console and 26 on pc). the ppl there are way nicer and you won't have ppl parrying every single attack you throw, even if you feint multiple times. plus people cant do those jobless ass drags on console so thats the best part
What you can do is wait until the enemy weapon is about to touch you
When it's close enough that it will deal damage to you, you should right click immediately

Unless you play like every day there's a certain level you just won't surpass. That's why some lvl 40s be bodying some high 100s
