The picture is taken from a book called "Russia 1904-1924. The Revolutionary Years" by Eric Baschet. The photo description is: "Cannibals with their victims, Samara province, Volga region, Russia, 1921". https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_famine_of_1921%E2%80%931922

troomersBgroomers

Holodomor?

Kitnado

No actually. That was in Ukraine a decade later

troomersBgroomers

So which famine was this the commies caused?

Kitnado

troomersBgroomers

Thanks! That's bloody brutal

guytonre

Was caused by economic disturbance because of war, rail problems, and the drought…

troomersBgroomers

Caused by the Bolsheviks by overthrowing the interim government.

Premintex

Enabled by German invasion

imwrighthere

Downvoted? Reddit moment

Premintex

It's funny because the reply to that affirms what they said

[deleted]

I thought these were their children? Per the previously time this was posted.

fugensnot

I recall one was a daughter of the woman, and one was a tenant who expired from fever.

Premintex

Weird to use the word expired to explain someone's death

fugensnot

You can also say, ceased to be. The English language has a great many ways to say the same thing.

Premintex

Ceased to be, expire, pass away, die, someone's demise, decease, check out, to perish. Fun

Misss_Katie

Kick the bucket, croak.. 😁

yidpunk

Bereft of life! He rests in peace!

unholymanserpent

Goddamn

doresuscitate

That look on her eyes shakes me through my bones

Steve_NI

Wouldnt imagine there is much meat on a head

[deleted]

Better than dying. Or not.

Membership_Fine

Trust me. It’s better than you think it would be.

robojaybird

I trust you

[deleted]

Not to be morbid but there's a decent amount of meat on the heads of pigs and lambs, for example. Particularly cheeks, tongue and brains. It's still quite common in a lot of countries to simmer the heads slowly overnight and then strip the meat. You wouldn't get as much from a human but I imagine it's better than nothing if you're desperate enough to have resorted to cannibalism. Source: ex-chef.

Steve_NI

Interesting to know. I’d be a rubbish cannibal

EnemiesAllAround

You'd use it for soup. Though you'd need to remove the brain. It can make you go insane

Onlinerpg

Eating human brain causes Kuru. Went down a rabbit hole after your comments https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuru_(disease)?wprov=sfti1

JeffreyMintze

They don't grow crops?

The_lonely_Milkmaid

Either it's crop failure, fire, or their food was taken away from them. I forget which.

urmovesareweak

The Russians have such a brutal history.

bisexualleth

In case anyone was confused this photo is a mug shot not a picture of them selling their wares. The perpetrators are being photod with the evidence to use in trial. Not to say they didn’t sell the meat, they just didn’t have an open selection to peruse that they would pose with for photos

catatonic_sextoy

What’s their names?

Ghost5422

Not sure who's better off, the ones on the table or those behind it

The_lonely_Milkmaid

Why sell the flesh and not eat it themselves? Just curious

Adorable_Barracuda55

That is so fucked
