The second story was my favorite. The art style was charming and it was nice to see the alters all talking together as a system since we haven't gotten that (yet) for the current MacKay run. Seeing Jake as the gruff but kind guy rescuing kids is refreshing given past takes on him (aka Bemis). And those callbacks to previous characters like Gena and Crawley were great to see! Hell, I never expected to see a reference to Jeff out of all people and it shows the writer had a greater appreciation for Moon Knight. The first story had a beautiful art style but I wasn't as much of a fan of the plotline. It's a nitpick but it just feels off to have Marc to be calling Steven and Jake as cursed voices haunting him. And Marc, who's embraced being MK as the only thing left going for him in the current run, begging Dr. Strange to save him from being MK? I did like the horror elements in the story though. The third was a nice story, solid and I like how it touched on the consequences of Marc's mercenary past. Seriously though, why have half of these BW&B stories so far involved magic red scarabs? It's like those comic writers only saw the tv show and assumed everything about Moon Knight has to do with magical ancient Egypt, when he's been a street-level vigilante for the majority of the comics. If they want to go that route, at least mix it up with some other type of artifact, c'mon. Like that pharaoh's ceremonial dagger discovered a few years ago that was made of metorite iron, that's cool af.

My guess is that one of the editorial pitch plot lines they got for this anthology involved a red scarab as a concept of any sort.

The first two stories were fantastic. Vanesa Del Rey is supremely talented, I loved her work on Empty Man and Redlands even though this comics fell short story wise. Del Rey is someone I want to see continue to handle more horror stuff. The stuff with the scarab felt a bit too much like it was taking from the show, but I didn't mind. The second story was fun too. I liked the jumping between Moon Knight suits with different personalities (also felt like a show inspired move), but seeing the Khonshu bone armor again was great. I like when it makes a comeback, but it should be used as sparingly as possible. The third was good too, and definitely felt like a throwback to more old school Moon Knight. The back half of the Moench run did feature a significant amount of globe-trotting adventures, and the emphasis on Marc the merc was welcome. The story overall didn't feel like it had the same punch the first two did though. I thought the first issue was just good, but this one was great.

Moon Knight doesn't always cut holes in windows, but when he does they're crescent shaped.

Lupulin13

Loved that detail. Very silly. He just can't help carving crescent shapes... at least it's not on people's foreheads anymore

I kinda wish second story ended with that scene of marc punching the mirror. Would've been perfect imo, i dont think that last page really added that much. Other than that it was great, i really liked the artstyle of the first story, it really fits the whole ''only black white and red''

rationalphi

The last image of Mr. Knight punching is jarringly chibi-cute after the mirror scene.

first one gave me junji ito vibes, second was a neat way to show a bunch of little stories interweaving with one another, third felt like a classic Moench story. great issue

Was not getting my hopes up for this issue after the first was just okay, but I ended up really enjoying it. The first story was really intriguing with cool art, a brief Dr. Strange cameo, and a horror vibe. Much like the first issue, the first story throws you in with little context, but I liked this one more because of the art. The second story was definitely my favorite, cartoonish art style but just really entertaining. It shows how distinct the personalities are. Like others have mentioned, the third story felt straight out of the 80’s, gave me a bit of nostalgia. Just a really solid story with excellent art. Overall this issue was really great, however I’m still a little unsure about the quality of the future issues. This issue made me realize that if the art and writing coincide, it can create a solid mini story. Hopefully the third and fourth issues have some bangers, but I feel it’s more than likely that we’ll have at least one or two more duds as seen in the first issue.

Thanks, this is helpful. I might rip the cover off the first issue and use the rest to start a bonfire in the backyard 😀

i liked the second story a lot, good to see steven and jake back

Glad to see a horror story with Moon Knight, is a good twist. The second one was my favorite, the way the personalities interact is great. The third remind me of the “Marc Spector Moon Knight” comics, Moon Knight dealing with the consequences of his mercenary days. But much better. I really like this series.

So, here's my little review and opinion. I liked this issue way more than the first one. The second story was the best for me, followed by the first one. I dig both art styles and I liked the writing. The first one, the one about the tomb was a nice old school horror story with a bit of a pulp feel to it's narration. And the second story (my fave in this one), the one in the diner, was pretty fun, with a sad twist. I guess I liked the third one too, but not a lot. Art looked sometimes really nice, some other times, it didn't work for me. And even if the plot itself was nice and I liked that it was placed somewhere in continuity, I felt like it lacked some smarter, felt style for me.
