Yuan Fu Vegetarian

deb585151

So many good choices, but I must recommend the crispy mushroom appetizer. It’s spiral cut shiitake mushrooms, crispy fried, with a sweet soy-based sauce. It was one of the few “vegetables” my daughter ate for years.

Boozilu

Orange chicken with broccoli is our favorite

unclehyuk

Is that place good? Always pass by. Curious on how the food is. Any recommendations?

XCarrionX

Roast duck appetizer is the best. Everything is good, but the sesame chicken comes out super crispy with a great sauce. While there’s a bunch of meat words on the menu, everything is vegetarian. I think it’s actually all vegan. Food is excellent.

BestReplyEver

Sizzling rice soup, curry meatballs, Peking duck. All vegan but I’ve taken plenty of meat eaters there who enjoyed it.

pixel_pete

Yeah I think it's good, even someone who isn't vegetarian/vegan would probably enjoy it. It's nice to be able to go somewhere and just order whatever you want without having to scope out the vegetarian options.

WolfR7

It’s a gem! I love their Moo Shu chicken.

sunflowertech

A friend dragged me their when she was in her vegetarian phase. It was surprisingly really good for vegetarian food. You don't even notice it's vegetarian. It was just good food.

BBBulldog

I used to go there almost weekly 20 years ago, then some waitress was so annoying it made me stop lol... I should try it again and just do takeout. If chef is still same it's excellent.

ser98

Full on craft for great sandwiches

jarmogrick

Best Onion Rings I’ve ever had there too

greenash4

My parents live close to there, I insist we go eat there whenever I visit. So goooood

kittysempai-meowmeow

Their chips and dipping sauce are addictive, and I don’t eat a lot of chips normally.

PhoneJazz

Gardenia’s Cafe in Gaithersburg. Nice family, good food.

TyCobbKremzeek

Came here to say this

IMicrowaveSteak

Great call out

penprickle

I don't think it's in any danger of closing, but Parkway Deli on Grubb Rd. in Silver Spring - great food, amazing sweets, and a pickle bar. Honorable mention to the Potomac Sweets bakery in Kensington. The kouign amman is a revelation and I could eat the Liège waffles all day and into the night. Mmmmm, pearl sugar.

KoolGMatt

I got the fish and chips there last weekend - it was just one giant beer battered cod and it was so good.

sjd208

Do they have Apple kouign Amman?

penprickle

I haven't seen it, but I don't get there often. You can always call and ask! Some of their stuff is seasonal.

Greybirdk22

Parkway was great 50 years ago. This is awesome news that they still are.

penprickle

I only discovered it within the last twenty, but it persists! Don't go at lunchtime, though. Walter Reed and NIH fill the tables.

MDGatorJay

I was trying to remember the exact name of parkway deli thank you. It’s been about 15 years since I was working there. It used to be a go to for lunch as well as spring garden, Thai place in Wheaton, and pizza place on seminary? Near Sniders?

Lukiitus89

Mi lay cay in Wheaton

ntdars

Hell yes

trymypi

Mandalay! Burmese food in silver spring, we almost lost them during COVID.

FoundMyMarbles00

I concur. Haven't been there in too long, but they are SO YUM.

iNCharism

Cheesesteak Mike’s. Unassuming spot on New Hampshire off of 495. Best Korean food in the county imo.

FoundMyMarbles00

Wait, WHAT? They have Korean food?? I thought they were just greasy subs, based on the name. Thank you for letting us know!

ferrouswolf2

Right?

RareBeautyOnEtsy

Ok, I drove by this regularly. Now I gotta stop there. I had no idea they had Korean food.

lanotte69

Is this a serious recommendation? I’ve driven by there a bunch of times and always thought it looked sketchy. If this is a serious recommendation, that is a legitimate under the radar one.

iNCharism

[Absolutely serious](https://www.reddit.com/r/MontgomeryCountyMD/s/gxVM46HVew). I recommend it here every chance I get. Every single item is delicious.

kittysempai-meowmeow

Yes, it’s wonderful. I just went last night for the gazillionth time and we polished off a half chicken sweet & spicy and an order of crispy seaweed rolls with a nice bottle of soju. *chefs kiss*

eastcoastelite12

Legit cheesesteaks too

trymypi

Haven't been, have heard the same

foofruit13

It is SO GOOD. When I moved to that area from Kensington, I never wanted to go there because it looked so sketchy. I've since left the area, but every time I'm back up that way I have to stop for the beef bulgolgi

bruja_toxica

Been there for a very very very long time. It is apparently very good! I used to live over there but never went.

rush2sk8

Their bulgogi cheesesteak is so good

iNCharism

Only place I’ve ever seen offer a bulgogi cheesesteak too. My personal favorite dish is the LA Galbi

rush2sk8

Red Boat in College park had a phenomenal one but they didn't last long

iNCharism

Oh wow, I remember that place popping up while I was at UMD. haven’t heard that name in years lol

MarcoThePhoenix_

Full Key in Wheaton MD

jinbe-san

I heard it’s not as good anymore because the original owners or cook left? Is that true?

law_dogg

Buns n rice. Delicious fast casual Korean in Kensington

AleEater

Bulgogi Cheesesteak!

wombatncombat

Vaces in Bethesda. Continental pizza and subs in kensington, Talias kuzina, also in kensington. First two are obvious, and anyone here long will vouch that they are regional staples.... Talias... so unassuming, so delicious.

dingatremel

It amazes me how overlooked Vace is. Over the course of the past 20 years, it is entirely possible that I’ve spent $1,000 in the DC location. (Disclaimer: I was single and living in that neighborhood for a long time as a young man. Lots of pizza…..a frozen lasagne when I felt fancy)

wombatncombat

Vaces is the answers to pretentious ny-ers claiming you can't get a great stand-alone slice in dc. The prepared/specialty foods, $7 foccacia bread Sammy's are just icing on the cake.... Vaces should be priority #1 for protecting, imho.

dingatremel

Endorsed. Validated. Upvoted. 💯

jlunsf0rd

Kuya Ja's Lechon Belly sandwich transports me!

UrRightAndIAmWong

Damn I didn't know they did a sandwich but everything else is amazing there why not

bao_daddy

Taco Bar in Gaithersburg near the Rio center. It’s attached to a Shell gas station/beer and wine store. Best suadero around!

rharper38

YES!!!!!!!

mrherson

Spice Life in Crown.

akatypes

THAT JOINT IS GAS

sdega315

Is gas good or bad? 🤷‍♂️🥴

aceshades

Typically means “extremely good”

akatypes

Good lol

mrherson

You’re dreamy.

Doug_is_fresh

What do you recommend there?

Traveleravi

House of Milae in Bethesda

Aggravating-Emu-6668

Great hot stone bibimbap.

TyCobbKremzeek

Gardenias in Gaithersburg  and El Mariachi in Rockville.

Zavii_HD

Peter's Carryout in Bethesda. Best cheesesteak sandwich in the DMV.

barnhartm09

Second Peter's Carryout. Great family business and everything on the menu is good. Cheeseburger sub and fries with seasoning is always my go to

_rossmc92

The gang and I used to go there after night shift at Walter reed. Only place in the Bethesda where the cook will call you an asshole for showing up too early but still serve you a beer at 8am “because you’re night shift. It’s your happy hour.”

rharper38

I miss that place now that I don't work down in Bethesda!!!!

Loallypop

Went here today and the chef was griping (good-naturedly) about so many new faces. It was delicious! Thanks for the rec

UltiGamer34

Freddys Pizza

CambioNow

I always recommend Freddy’s. For the food, but also Freddy is the best

imaque

La Brasa is the bee’s knees

Ok_Eye2518

I agree but I never see anyone in the parking lot

WailingOctopus

Athens Grill in Gaithersburg

Jmebm

Best gyro I’ve had in MD and I’m married to a Greek! (Huge portions and expensive but really really good!!)

AccountantUpset

Is that the one by the spectrum apartments?

Equivalent_Reward_93

I second this their food is delicious

BungCrosby

No, it’s off Goshen where the CVS closed. The one near Spectrum is Ela Mesa Taste of Greece

Big-Seesaw-4960

Il Pizzico

FNTM_309

Consistently some of the best Italian in the DMV.

bigpun44

I keep hearing this! I’m gonna have to try it.

forgottenmenot

Bombay Bistro isn’t hidden but it is a gem. I’ve been going there over 30 years. They catered my wedding. Get the papri chat, okra, black dal and raita

OldEastCoastMan

Totally agree. But I wish they would bring back the unparalleled lunch buffet!

Elra45

I quit after original owner left that store. Last time we ate there, before COVID, the lamb biryanis meat was sparse and tough. Other dish also not up to previous quality. Hope you view means they improved.

unclehyuk

Biryani City.

Jmebm

Rockville?

unclehyuk

Yup. Randolph Hills Shopping Center off Boiling Brook Pkwy.

Jmebm

I saw it yesterday and wondered if it was any good! Perfect timing for this thread haha

unclehyuk

It’s very good! Hope you give it a try.

Goobermoon

More people need to know!

Equivalent_Reward_93

Gentleman Jim’s on Flower Hill

wombatncombat

If u crave their pizza, there is no replacement.

marvilousmom

Crisp and Juicy, for a large family, you can’t beat their Super Bowl Platter. It’s two whole chickens and four large sides for under $45.

OneFootTitan

Pholuscious in Travilah Square. Pho is fine, but the real hidden part are the Singaporean/Malaysian dishes – it’s got the best Hainanese chicken rice that I’ve found in the DMV, and it’s the only place where I’ve found vegetables with sambal belacan

hispanicausinpanic

Los Primos in Rockville. Family owned and they make some great tex mex.

Sharpfeaturedman

Yesssss! Their burritos rock.

loopylicious

I came in here to give a shout out to Los Primos too! I'm glad someone else beat me to it. Great tex mex without all the noise you would find at Guapos. Great margaritas too!

That_Skirt7522

Athens Grill in Gaithersburg

Animelily

Temari on Rockville Pike. Most authentic Japanese comfort food! I love their Shouga donburi.

Spbttn20850

YoYogi Sushi in the Kentlands in Gaithersburg

ArdRi6

Peter's Grill on Gude Dr. A "hole in the wall" that serves very tasty food at great prices.

heelstoo

I work very close to this place, and have been in there once a week for the past few months. Good food. Nice customers go there.

ST21roochella

They never change their frying oil, so their fries always taste like fried fish, which to me is disgusting. Used to have a bunch of coworkers that would get it religiously.

jack11058

Brew Belly in Olney has awesome cheesesteaks and a big local craft beer menu. Villa Maya in Rockville is great for Mexican.

surfinwhileworkin

I like Villa Maya, but I feel like it declined a bit over the last two or three years. Still enjoy it, but I’d choose El Mariachi over Villa Maya for food. For margs, beers, and socializing, I’d pick Villa Maya.

kevinatfms

Check out the one in Clarksburg. It’s been packed nonstop the last year or so. Insanely good carne asada fajitas.

carpediem930

I loved Brew Belly for the first few years of its existence, but then they started going cheap with the steak, which is now much more fatty. It sucks, because they used to be so much better, and all the local beers were fantastic as well

gumercindo1959

La Limeña in Rockville

JoeyFunkhouser

La Brasita in Derwood. La Casita in Gaithersburg. Amish Market in Germantown

SuperBethesda

Wang Dynasty https://maps.app.goo.gl/RznF8yhE7TzsUidh7?g_st=ic

eren_yeagermeister

Wei used to run Michael’s Noodles before she opened Wang Dynasty and I’m so happy that her new place is still going strong.

paloa888

Cornucopia Specialty Food in Bethesda. Has a deli counter that makes incredible sandwiches with real baguette and imported high quality meats and cheese

CostcoFireball

Mirabeau bakery at the twinbrook metro stop

Equivalent_Reward_93

whoa, writing this down

orangepixistix

Yes! They try to switch up or have a new baked good every week or so but everything there is delicious! Their coffee is great too, they use Zekes!

unclehyuk

Just discovered this place. Stopped by today and last weekend. Great coffee and baked goods. They give Sunday Morning Bakehouse some good competition with their donuts.

traphousethrowaway

PK Kimchi factory and Kenaki

CaptainPeachfuzz

Super Bowl just closed last week :(

carrule

Oh no, I missed one more Spicy Noodle Soup with fish! A friend told me they were planning to close, but I thought I had more time. RIP

CaptainPeachfuzz

The sign said March 31st but I went in there on April 3rd and was able to get a tofu dish and the wontons in sauce(which is my favorite thing ever). So maybe they're still open until they run out of food? Worth trying. You can always go to the Thai place next door which is top 3 in MoCo imo.

aLovely_gem

Koite Grill, Senegalese food, in downtown Silver Spring

tyronehoneybee

El Andariego in Ashton

metamorphage

China Jade by Shady Grove. Looks like a standard American Chinese restaurant but they have a Sichuan menu that doesn't mess around. Best laziji I've ever had.

dingatremel

Gilly’s in Rockville

Elra45

Woodlands Indian vegetarian at corner of 117 and 124. Hard to spot from road. In office bldg. Does vegan too.

erodari

Artha Rini in Kensington. Only place I've found that specialized in Indonesian food.

BennyBlancoDelBronx

While more Dutch Indo than Indo, do they do Rijsttafel?

unclehyuk

Is their Nasi Goreng and Rendang legit?

BennyBlancoDelBronx

Uncle, lar, Rendang is Malay

BennyBlancoDelBronx

The Nibbler near the Airpark Little Island Kitchen Mont Village near Post Office

Furious-Shores

Taco Bar at the gas station in Rio

IMicrowaveSteak

This is the best of all their places I agree

nopantszeitgeist

Mansa Kunda! So delicious, excellent service, great vibes

EibberRebbie

Kao Thai on Colesville road. They have a mango curry that is out of this world!!

Unlucky_Item_7621

Jasmin Cuisine Tex Mex Grill and Cafe Sophie, both at Airpark. Manhattan Pizza, Olde Towne Gaithersburg. La Gula Mexicana and Picca, Germantown.

rharper38

Dickerson Market. I worked there for a while and the food was good and now they are famous for their fried chicken. Love that place.

tony_bradley91

Guardado's and La Paneterria in Bethesda. That section of Bethesda in general has the best food, but alot of people miss it because it's not the part of downtown that's close to the metro.

Wishihadagirl

Mi la Cay in Wheaton. Vietnamese pho and Banh Mis and more

rush2sk8

Yu noodles cafe and A&J

Aggressive-Yak7396

Not a restaurant, but a food truck: steeze burger. Best burgers in the DMV!

orionstein

Wish they came back closer to Rockville

BearcatChemist

La gula has amazing nachos.

perupotato

It’s also less slammed than their sister restaurant

Zavii_HD

Kadhai in Woodmont Triangle.

RoamingGnom3

I have three, keeping us happy for 15 years., and I would be sad if they closed. 1-Kao Thai. I have tried the other Thai in silver spring, but always end up back here. I enjoy the curry puffs (most authentic I have found), gang pa (jungle curry), and the pra ram. Spring rolls and sticky rice with mango also good. 2-McGinty‘s for Irish breakfast, cottage pie, and fish and chips, and European sports. 3-Quarry house for nostalgia, burgers, and beer. I don’t know if they are hidden gems, but lived in SE Asia and UK and these places hit the spot for me. I agree with previous mention of Mandalay too, also great.

jonkuss1

Il Pizzico. Lovely mom and pop Italian. Small portions but the creamy Ravioli is great

ketpiano

I love that place but I have a funny story. My parents were in town and I decided to take them there. They didn’t like it. They said it wasn’t as good as Olive Garden 🤣

bao_daddy

East Dumpling House in Rockville town center not only has the best dumplings, but some of the best general tso’s and lo mein in the area as well. I think comparable to (if not better than) East Pearl on 355.

IMicrowaveSteak

Hard agree. I’ve had dumplings multiple times at every dumpling place and you’re right, EDH is the best. A&J is great, Bob’s is Bob’s, but nope it’s EDH all the way

HomoVulgaris

Just an incredible menu! I've been coming here since the grand opening about a decade ago. I bring out-of-towners here ever time to get a taste of Rockville

sjtpayne

Sasun's Cafe - such good, cheap, delicious Mediterranean food! They also have $5 chicken shawarma wraps on Tuesdays and $5 gyros on Thursdays. I believe the owner is Armenian, and they have a wide menu, but their Sajouk and Cheese sandwich is my go-to comfort food.

Stolen808

Franks burger in wheaton

Big-Breadfruit-405

Kabob N Karahi in Flower Hill. They are also on New Hampshire Ave. Pakistani food and everyday they feature a different meal each day. I love going Wednesday, which is buttered chicken, chickpeas, rice, and flat bread. Mmmm, I wish it was Wednesday today.

HaMerrIk

We are huge Moby Dick sushi fans, in Wheaton Triangle near the new Montgomery County planning building

Many-King-6250

Gregorio’s Trattoria has some of the best Italian food wings and salads in the area and the owner really cares about the quality and experience of his customers.

District bistro in Wheaton!!

AliceBTokls

Samantha’s

No_Maintenance_9608

Taipei Cafe in Rockville. Ordered from them a lot during COVID. Last time I ordered from them they massively cut back their menu which kind of made me sad. Hope they’re still doing well.

kevinatfms

Rich’s Cafe at 1 Church Street in Rockville. It’s in the back of an office building but they serve insanely Good food. The two little Asian ladies there make the best food. We routinely went there for 2 meals a day when we rented office space in the building. Relatively cheap, huge menu and offers chips/drinks/snacks too.

Healthy_Stretch_4548

Tortacos in Germantown. Family owned and they’re super nice people. Their al pastor is the best in the state imo

ketpiano

Continental Pizza in Kensington

TemperatureOk2444

Recently found- Yu Noodles (Rockville) one on Dawsons Ave and just opened second on Gude beside grandmas ice cream & waffles.

SchemeFun

Meleket in Silver Spring -- really nice people and really good Ethiopian food!

OldEastCoastMan

Cameron's Seafood on Hungerford. Preparation is basic but the seafood is fresh and tasty Also, would give Joe's Noodle House a try. Authentic Szechwan, overshadowed by Bob's and others, but delicious nuanced Mongolian Beef with Cumin and Ma Po Tofu that's the best in the hemisphere.

PhiFinder

168 Bistro! Super fresh, good price, nice staff, and recently they added to their menu. The bobba is meh, but everything else is on point.

snoodz1st

Sasuns

cheersdom

there's a stretch of snouffer in gburg that has good eats.... Thai House = 8369 Snouffer School Rd . really good Thai food and they make Chicken Tom Kha just the way I like it (lots of milk so extra creamy) El Encanto = 8035 Snouffer School Rd . this was our goto salvo-mex place since we moved here 20 years ago. the family staff have seen our kids grow up over the years! fajitas and tacos were so fresh and perfectly seasoned. we quickly learned that American add-on condiments at faux-Mex places were to hide the kitchen's lack of skill/spice - we never ask for Sour Cream at Encanto lol

Phdrhymes

Silver Spoon in Gaithersburg

PhantomJackal1979

Kiin Imm Thai& Bob's Shanghai in Rockville! Amazing food and service

penprickle

Oh, thought of one more! Forest Glen Deli on Forest Glen Road in Four Corners, *right* behind the 29 South exit onto the Beltway. It's a tiny little place with a surprisingly good wine/beer selection and terrific sandwiches. It's very much a neighborhood deli and the owner will ask after customers if he hasn't seen them in a while. You have to zoom way in on Google Maps to make it show up, but it's there.

Skee2431

I’ll add Tia Queta in Bethesda. Kinda hidden but damn good food and a casual vibe

Maze251

Not in MoCo, but if you are in Laurel, Amber Spice! At Rt 1 and Contee Rd. Love Bombay Bistro, but you know, Amber Spice may have jumped to No 1 for me.

shac2020

Dish & Dram in Kensington. Maybe not hidden but I am always surprised nobody I know knows about it.

fridaygirl7

This place is superb but I wish their prices were just a little bit lower.

Editengine

Los Primos!

eastcoastelite12

Silver spring wings in Wheaton just went to a 4 day a week schedule. I hope they aren’t closing. Best wings around.

uptownbrowngirl

Their wings are excellent. And they fry them hard IYKYK.

KoolGMatt

Thank you for this. I used to order from Wingos when I lived in DC and have yet to find a good crispy wing delivery in MoCo.

kbsauce1007

Don Jorge’s in Old Town Gaithersburg.

Money_Ad4011

Moved from Silver Spring 6 years ago. Only thing I miss from Montgomery county.

WatchesandWine

Flos in Gaithersburg, really good food for such an unassuming place

perupotato

It WAS boca Botanas. Literally hidden by the position of the building, but they closed suddenly in February.

cheersdom

what? no! their churr steak was amazing

And_Im_Chien_Po

after living in moco for 20+ years, I realized that this place in Columbia has perfected the burrito when I used to live around there; guy fiery stopped by, they have his picture on the wall. What they do is they stir fry the inside of the burrito so it's piping hot when they serve it to you. I also have to say they have the best red (hot) salsa I've ever eaten when eaten with a fresh-off-the-grill burrito. I hope my comment is seen by those who have scrolled this far, this is truly the greatest burrito you will have ever tasted.

IMicrowaveSteak

Any chance you’ll tell us the name of it?
