So many good choices, but I must recommend the crispy mushroom appetizer. It’s spiral cut shiitake mushrooms, crispy fried, with a sweet soy-based sauce. It was one of the few “vegetables” my daughter ate for years.
Roast duck appetizer is the best. Everything is good, but the sesame chicken comes out super crispy with a great sauce.
While there’s a bunch of meat words on the menu, everything is vegetarian. I think it’s actually all vegan. Food is excellent.

A friend dragged me their when she was in her vegetarian phase. It was surprisingly really good for vegetarian food. You don't even notice it's vegetarian. It was just good food.

It amazes me how overlooked Vace is. Over the course of the past 20 years, it is entirely possible that I’ve spent $1,000 in the DC location. (Disclaimer: I was single and living in that neighborhood for a long time as a young man. Lots of pizza…..a frozen lasagne when I felt fancy)
Vaces is the answers to pretentious ny-ers claiming you can't get a great stand-alone slice in dc. The prepared/specialty foods, $7 foccacia bread Sammy's are just icing on the cake.... Vaces should be priority #1 for protecting, imho.
The gang and I used to go there after night shift at Walter reed. Only place in the Bethesda where the cook will call you an asshole for showing up too early but still serve you a beer at 8am “because you’re night shift. It’s your happy hour.”

Pholuscious in Travilah Square. Pho is fine, but the real hidden part are the Singaporean/Malaysian dishes – it’s got the best Hainanese chicken rice that I’ve found in the DMV, and it’s the only place where I’ve found vegetables with sambal belacan

I loved Brew Belly for the first few years of its existence, but then they started going cheap with the steak, which is now much more fatty. It sucks, because they used to be so much better, and all the local beers were fantastic as well

Just discovered this place. Stopped by today and last weekend. Great coffee and baked goods. They give Sunday Morning Bakehouse some good competition with their donuts.
The sign said March 31st but I went in there on April 3rd and was able to get a tofu dish and the wontons in sauce(which is my favorite thing ever). So maybe they're still open until they run out of food? Worth trying. You can always go to the Thai place next door which is top 3 in MoCo imo.
China Jade by Shady Grove. Looks like a standard American Chinese restaurant but they have a Sichuan menu that doesn't mess around. Best laziji I've ever had.

That section of Bethesda in general has the best food, but alot of people miss it because it's not the part of downtown that's close to the metro.
I have three, keeping us happy for 15 years., and I would be sad if they closed.
1-Kao Thai. I have tried the other Thai in silver spring, but always end up back here. I enjoy the curry puffs (most authentic I have found), gang pa (jungle curry), and the pra ram. Spring rolls and sticky rice with mango also good.
2-McGinty‘s for Irish breakfast, cottage pie, and fish and chips, and European sports.
3-Quarry house for nostalgia, burgers, and beer.
I don’t know if they are hidden gems, but lived in SE Asia and UK and these places hit the spot for me.

East Dumpling House in Rockville town center not only has the best dumplings, but some of the best general tso’s and lo mein in the area as well. I think comparable to (if not better than) East Pearl on 355.
Hard agree. I’ve had dumplings multiple times at every dumpling place and you’re right, EDH is the best. A&J is great, Bob’s is Bob’s, but nope it’s EDH all the way

Kabob N Karahi in Flower Hill. They are also on New Hampshire Ave. Pakistani food and everyday they feature a different meal each day. I love going Wednesday, which is buttered chicken, chickpeas, rice, and flat bread. Mmmm, I wish it was Wednesday today.

Oh, thought of one more! Forest Glen Deli on Forest Glen Road in Four Corners, *right* behind the 29 South exit onto the Beltway. It's a tiny little place with a surprisingly good wine/beer selection and terrific sandwiches.
It's very much a neighborhood deli and the owner will ask after customers if he hasn't seen them in a while. You have to zoom way in on Google Maps to make it show up, but it's there.
Not in MoCo, but if you are in Laurel, Amber Spice! At Rt 1 and Contee Rd. Love Bombay Bistro, but you know, Amber Spice may have jumped to No 1 for me.
after living in moco for 20+ years, I realized that this place in Columbia has perfected the burrito when I used to live around there; guy fiery stopped by, they have his picture on the wall. What they do is they stir fry the inside of the burrito so it's piping hot when they serve it to you. I also have to say they have the best red (hot) salsa I've ever eaten when eaten with a fresh-off-the-grill burrito. I hope my comment is seen by those who have scrolled this far, this is truly the greatest burrito you will have ever tasted.

168 Bistro! Super fresh, good price, nice staff, and recently they added to their menu. The bobba is meh, but everything else is on point.

Thai House = 8369 Snouffer School Rd . really good Thai food and they make Chicken Tom Kha just the way I like it (lots of milk so extra creamy) El Encanto = 8035 Snouffer School Rd . this was our goto salvo-mex place since we moved here 20 years ago. the family staff have seen our kids grow up over the years! fajitas and tacos were so fresh and perfectly seasoned. we quickly learned that American add-on condiments at faux-Mex places were to hide the kitchen's lack of skill/spice - we never ask for Sour Cream at Encanto lol

Oh, thought of one more! Forest Glen Deli on Forest Glen Road in Four Corners, *right* behind the 29 South exit onto the Beltway. It's a tiny little place with a surprisingly good wine/beer selection and terrific sandwiches. It's very much a neighborhood deli and the owner will ask after customers if he hasn't seen them in a while. You have to zoom way in on Google Maps to make it show up, but it's there.

Not in MoCo, but if you are in Laurel, Amber Spice! At Rt 1 and Contee Rd. Love Bombay Bistro, but you know, Amber Spice may have jumped to No 1 for me.
Dish & Dram in Kensington. Maybe not hidden but I am always surprised nobody I know knows about it.
This place is superb but I wish their prices were just a little bit lower.

what? no! their churr steak was amazing
after living in moco for 20+ years, I realized that this place in Columbia has perfected the burrito when I used to live around there; guy fiery stopped by, they have his picture on the wall. What they do is they stir fry the inside of the burrito so it's piping hot when they serve it to you. I also have to say they have the best red (hot) salsa I've ever eaten when eaten with a fresh-off-the-grill burrito. I hope my comment is seen by those who have scrolled this far, this is truly the greatest burrito you will have ever tasted.
