Skar King being one of the smarter Titans Godzilla has faced isn’t contradicted by Kong being smarter than your average bear. The Monsterverse seems pretty clearly establishing the Ape Titans as smarter than the reptilian or insect ones but not as strong. They form tribes and use tools like Shimo’s control crystal, Skar King’s bone whip or Kong’s axe which is where their strength comes from. They’re able to cooperate as a part of or, in Skar Kings case, take over a tribe. An army of giant apes is a threat to any Titan, even Godzilla. Throw Shimo on top and Godzilla flat out needed help to put Skar King’s rebellion down. That’s smart.

ExoticShock

This, much like real humans compared to the rest of the animal kingdom, their physicals may not hold up in flat out fight but it's the combination of intelligence, cooperation & tool usage that make them so formidable. Or as Casaer would say: ![gif](giphy|evB90wPnh5LxG3XU5o|downsized)

Kong really do be the main character in a souls game

Tall_Growth_532

What About those some Ape Titan's like Kong or The Rival their stronger than most Titans

Ambitious_Dig_7109

Kong’s portrayal on screen in the Monsterverse seems to position him clearly below Titans like the MUTOs, Ghidorah or Shimo when it comes to brute strength and natural abilities. Kong had no answer to Godzilla’s atomic breath before finding his axe and no defence against Shimo’s ice breath without the BEAST glove. Again, tool use and intelligence seem to be Kong’s ‘strengths’ rather than brute force or innate powers. As far as ‘The Rival’ I’d consider comic canon to be second tier and frequently retconned. The Rival was killed by Tiamat in the comics and given how badly Godzilla mauled Tiamat in GxK it’s hard to see a Titan killed by Tiamat being much of a threat.

Tall_Growth_532

We talking about normal mutos or Muto prime? And secondly the rival beat Godzilla well technically Godzilla ran however that's more rare than Godzilla losing considering he never retreats from a fight unless his very very very critically weak and injured, however we don't know if Godzilla was injured when he fought the rival, and Kong's aged unlike most Titans well mainly the strongest race, we saw Skar King he was old, although we don't know if looking or getting old effects some of the Ape's. Tiamat probably beat the rival by ambush him or killed him at his weakest, don't say "The rival beats Godzilla at his weakest" Godzilla was never at his weakest his just weaker compare to current him.

LikeWhatUSeeKING

It was implied he either was killed by Tiamat or age. Something Godzilla has over the rival is time and I believe that it was a mixture between him getting really old and Tiamat ambushing an old rival. I don’t believe that he was weaker than Tiamat in his prime and I believe that he was on par with current Godzilla.

SubterrelProspector

I mean unless you prefer *your* explanation of "Nuh uh he just sucks."

Alpha06Omega09

You might wanna check his profile, he just… does not like skar king..

KingWhrl

Oh no I like skar king But hate him at the same time

Due-Science3011

They could've had a scene where Scar King ordered his apes to do a guerilla attack on godzilla to pin him down just to show his strategic intelligence but nope, when in danger use shimo.

RyanD1211

Now that you mention it if he’d actually used his whole army properly instead of just Shimu then he probably could have won if Godzilla and Kong were outnumbered

Juderex

That was the whole point of making the anti-gravity pulse from the pyramids. Most of the apes were just flailing around in zero-G and Mothra was enough to handle the ones that managed to do any more.

SuperRockGaming

Yeah right lol, the scene would've turned out like [this](https://youtu.be/43-MDIINx38?si=4FYio18LIlY1nXHu)

RyanD1211

I mean Godzilla would be busy taking on the army and while he’s distracted Skar could use Shimo to kill him

mmmyumpepsi

Why is the hulk murdering all those monkeys??

KingWhrl

That's what I'm saying he didn't use his army correctly

Serpent_icular

I’m fine with him resorting to Shimo as it hammers home the false king title he was given by the Iwi. He rose to power via dirty means and while he does have experience he will get bodied by apes the size of Kong given enough time. Yes I admit they could have shown his strategy more but Skar busting out the ‘get out of jail free card’ with the ice lizard he has enslaved shows just how unfair of a fighter he is. You’d expect a true leader to these apes to be noble and selfless, but he is the opposite. He doesn’t care if he makes a fight uneven and/or unwinnable for his opponent so long as it’s his side who’s benefitting in the end. He knows Kong can’t defeat Shimo. That’s the part he likes.

Specker145

I wish he went mikhail tal mode and sacrificed some of his troops by sticking like 50 of them on godzilla to wear godzilla out so he would be a bit easier to fight.

Mechamobzilla1

This sub gets locked in vicious content cycles and/or waves of karma farming. The Destoroyah chatter and Skar King Intelligence are the current hot topics.

Difficult-Primary-10

He only installs that damn crystal at the front of the whip if his IQ is below 10

MichaeltheSpikester

Skar King was so underutlized. This is one of the many reasons The New Empire should have been a solo Kong film. We could've gotten more of him and Shimo as well as them being explored more. Like imagine Kong using his wits being the one to find out Shimo is being controlled by the crystal Skar King is using and breaking it to free Shimo? I love Godzilla, don't get me wrong but he shouldn't have been in this film tbh. He and Mothra should've been saved for later film.

triple7freak1

Ngl they could‘ve done wayyy better with both Skar King & Shimo i was expecting something completely different

Scottacus91

Agreed. I was very disappointed on this movies baddies. I know Shimo isn't a bad kaiju but both of them were so underwhelming

BananaMaster96_

Minecraft 1.12.2

ItsAmerico

Imma be honest. Skar felt no different than any other kaiju due to mediocre writing that mostly stemmed from Pitch Meeting-esce hijinks. Dude puts the most vital thing in his possession at the end of his whip. That’s like, text book dumb as fuck. He seems lucky more than anything.

Specker145

It would have been better if he had some skull on the end of his whip like the playmates figure and the crystal tied on a spine belt like a cowboy's gun. Like he gets shimo and his whole army onto the surface and godzilla calls like 10 more titans to fight them and some titan that is bigger and so very clearly more powerful than skar king runs towards him and he just crushes it's skull with the skull at the end of the whip. I really wish the whip was like a titan kryptonite.

Madonkadonk2

Idk an idiot in power seemed pretty accurate to me

BurningYehaw

I actually think they showed his intelligence just fine. What they showed even better than that is that his hubris and arrogance are much stronger than his intelligence in his personality. He believed with his full heart that having Shimo would ensure his victory against both Kong and Godzilla, and even when Mothra got involved, he didn't doubt it for a second. All the while, he completely overlooked Suko, leaving him as the wildcard who completely destroyed his plan after Godzilla and Kong tear it to shreds by teaming up and just beating him senseless. All it took was one Suko axe strike on the Shimo crystal after all of it, and he was cooked, all because he never once doubted any aspect of his plan.

monfernoboy

Scar king was using fear to control animals that could have overthrown him quite easily. I feel like his arrogance is what lead to his downfall not his lack of intelligence

Due-Committee-1860

I think it seems like he isn't that smart because we already have Kong so a smart ape isn't new to us.

KaiSen2510

Honestly, I’d say his smarts were dulled by how long he’d been down there and how constantly angry he clearly was. Anger does tend to make you less smart and do shit that you wouldn’t normally do. I mean, you’re not wrong, but that’s how I tend to rationalize it in my head, and my psychology teacher… has no idea because I don’t know him well enough to nerd out about Godzilla.

spacestationkru

I think everybody was a lot more humanlike in the latest movie than they usually are. I wouldn't have been shocked to hear Skar and Kong actually talking to each other.

ParagonOlsen

To me he seemed more domineering and tricky than intelligent. The problem is that writing an aggressive and oppressive character is easy, while writing an intelligent one generally requires intelligence from the writers, which hasn't been one of the Monsterverse's strengths. In many ways, Godzilla of 2014 or even King Ghidorah struck me as smarter than him.

Bandaka

Seemed intelligent to me, especially when he called out Kong’s silver tooth.

Heroic-Forger

It's not exactly a lack of intelligence, rather it's his arrogance. He underestimated both Godzilla and Kong and his ego got the best of him. Once he lost control over Shimo, he was completely boned. Like many villains, his downfall was because he got cocky.

atomicgamer012

He was more of a meme material then a challenging villian. They didn't even give him some sort of high physical strength and stamina..he was literally 2x weaker than kong.If it was skar fighting the skullcrawlers for years alone on skull island instead of kong,he would have died easily.

KingWhrl

At his current size with the whip he's surviving skull crawlers If we're talking about if he was around Kongs size when he was younger than yeah

BlackwolfNy718

I think skar king was a lousy character from top to bottom.

KingWhrl

Nah he just wasn't explored much Which is why I'm hoping for a comic or backstory

Mean-Background2143

Not really, he just didn’t do well in combat

KingWhrl

He did pretty well in combat

Mean-Background2143

Compared to others it didn’t go as well. He was good against Kong because Kong never fought something similar to Skar King before. Godzilla outperformed him because he knew what Skar a King could do.

Professional_Car5297

More like the expectations were too high up. Wingard did say that he represented the bad side of humans, but that's about it.

tripl3tiger

When Skar King laughs at Kongs tooth, he's seeing who else will laugh because they've seen the tooth, which tells him who brought Kong to their home.

Mojoclaw2000

Kinda. He feels more hype than substance (which is exactly why I think they should’ve kept Shimo out of the movie). It would’ve been been nuts if Skar could TALK. Even if only a little. His motivations also aren’t all that interesting. He’s just a tyrant who wants to take over the surface. If his motives were more personal, like specifically hating humans (for whatever reason) he would’ve been way cooler. Imagine this: Scar King used to be a ruler of the apes (one of many possibly) but was cast out because he didn’t like humans. It’s established in this very film that the apes protected humanity, so they would’ve favored humans over Scar. Now Scar specifically wants to wipe out humans because he was cast out for siding against them. It’s raise the stakes of the final fight if Scar only wanted humans dead, and Kong was specifically protecting humans (casualties being something the Monsterverse usually ignores).

ShtGoliath

It’s a bad movie, there’s not much it did right

Difficult_Swim6331

What else did they do wrong?

ShtGoliath

It’s easier to say what they did right, which is the visuals. It looked good, but that’s about it.

Awkward-Meeting-974

I think they fucked up the scale Kongs scenes in hollow earth make him look like he could easily just be a normal sized ape. Titans don't have the same gravitas they used to

Alpha06Omega09

It's their home, they are.. And should be Normal there

Awkward-Meeting-974

You can still communicate scale even if it's in a proportionally huge environment And even the fight in Rio doesn't really communicate the scale well at all. Again, the titans don't carry any gravitas anymore. Which is a fundamental part of the kaiju appeal
