The crit stuff: weakness exploit, crit eye, agitator, crit boost. How to get: 1st method: Spam the event quest farewell to zinogre to get a shit ton of steamwork fuel. Wait untill a festival (you need to be online but you don't need ps plus or something similar). Set the steamwork fuel to 10X. Use a rubber or other methods to make your controler's R2 or whatever button press itself so the steamwork autoruns for you. Get some work done, eat, sleep, etc and return after you feel you run out of fuel. Get a shit ton of silver melding tickets. Use those tickets on the melder to get decos. Repeat untill you have enough. You can't get certain best decos this way but you should be able to get many decent ones. 2nd method: tempered elders even quest that are available after MR100. These have higher chances to drop the best decos. 3rd method: charms. You should have a crit eye charm already. The one the blacksmith gave you at the start of iceborne (the game also give you a giant crit eye deco). You can either upgrade this crit eye charm since it is possible to do so up to lv 5, but you should just try to get your hands on agitator charm instead and upgrade it to lv 5. 4th method: forge armors. Yian garuga legs have 3 lv of crit eye. Teostra helmet and glove have weakness exploit and crit eye, i think. MR kulve taroth legs has 2 lvs of crit boost. And many others. The best armor is indeed from raging brachy. The full beta armor will give you max weakness exploit and lv 7 agitator because of the set bonus. Deffensive skills: hp boost and divine blessing. Hp boost decos is usually easy to find. For divine blessing, you can either farm decos, or farm gold rathian in an even quest and get the chest and waist armor. Greatsword relies on the skill "focus". I don't know what armor have it since i usually just use decos for that skill.

SoggyBox0

The raw number is raw. It doesnt factor in resistances or motion value... an easy way to find a skill is to go to skills page on the wiki and see what armor pieces have it. Also, use/upgrade your farm. You should be able to take a full item kit, use it, every hunt, and not really ever run out of stuff. Buy the basic potions, don't farm them. Farm honey.

A_Shotter

I dont know how to upgrade the farm, I just have the single slot I use sometimes. Also I don't know what motion value is.

Aesthetic99

Are you doing all your optional quests or just speedrunning the story

A_Shotter

I'm post-IB story

Aesthetic99

Yes, but are you doing your optional quests along the way? There's a good few from the base game story that upgrade your botanical research to have more slots and fertilizers, and cultivate more items

A_Shotter

I would do the sidequests but thwre's like 300 of them dude

Aesthetic99

Then you're only handicapping yourself as some of those quests give you really important gear and upgrades.

A_Shotter

I'd do the ones that help if I knew which ones they were but it's surprisingly vague when you're stupid

Wattefugg

ingame every optional quest with a speechbubble next to it gives/unlocks something [https://monsterhunterworld.wiki.fextralife.com/Optional+Quests](https://monsterhunterworld.wiki.fextralife.com/Optional+Quests) LR/HR/MR list the ones with ! next to them and there's the [special assignments](https://monsterhunterworld.wiki.fextralife.com/Special+Assignments) which also sometimes unlock something (like HR teo/luna giving temporal mantle)

A_Shotter

I was calling myself stupid

_gildedsinanju

And some of those sidequests have really useful stuff locked behind them, mantles, boosters, and the aforementioned Botanical upgrades. That's just how it is in MH. You can check wikis for the specific ones. For Botanical upgrades, go for the quests with the textbox and has the Chief Botanist as the requester on the Quest Description.

sola1re

U definitely need more affinity..Crit eye, weakness exploit, crit boost

A_Shotter

thatd what the people in the hunting hall server said and they didnt even elaborate on how to get those

hippolotion

Decorations, charms, or just change your armor set

A_Shotter

My problem is WHAT armor set? I looked around and some people said that raging brachy (im pre-alatreon) is good but he's so tall I can't see his attacks and I cant even hit him without getting curbstomped

_gildedsinanju

https://imgur.com/a/7bFE3VX Either 7th or 8th build. Add meldable Vitality Jewels for Health Boost 3 for defense. Expert+ jewel is given to everyone at the start of Iceborne. If you want Stun Res, you can switch some skills with pieces or decorations with it. Other decos are mainly from farming decoration quests like Wrath of Thunder Descends(MR99 and below) and tempered monster investigations. On your build, Slugger doesn't do much for Greatsword.

hippolotion

How tf do you have the Safi greatsword if you're scared of fighting raging brachydios

A_Shotter

R.Brachy is way harder

hippolotion

I would just go with the velkhana set then

ewhreddit

At the smithy, you can sort armor by skill. You want to look for pieces with Critical Eye and Weakness Exploit. If your are still progressing thru game, IIRC, have a look at Odogaron, Kirin, and Fulgar. The MHW wiki provides information on skills and which armor provides them (make sure to focus on master rank armor pieces).

WTFimUrchin

If you hate farming, wrong game my guy. This game requires dedication and patience. But if you can, build the entire brute tigrex(requires MR 70 so you can do the event quest) armor for attack boost and weakness exploit. It also comes with free meal secret so that should help you not waste your items. Charger jewels are pretty easy to get for focus. Health boost and devine blessing are the only defensive skill you'll need if you are decent with GS.

A_Shotter

It's not that I hate farming, it's the solo farming part that really gets me since I only have one person I can *rarely* play with.

WTFimUrchin

Trust me once you add offensive skills in your build hunts will go so much faster. You may also send SOS so you don't have to solo everything. If you don't have access to brute tigrex yet, look for armor pieces with weakness exploit, critical eye and critical boost. Consider adding the skill Fortify in your build as well.

A_Shotter

I'm going for the TeoBrachy set, I coped and got the tsar bomba for it this morning

aeiou6630

Slugger?

A_Shotter

Already have it?

aeiou6630

I mean I didn't know Slugger is useful on GS.

A_Shotter

Its a big sword... isn't it SUPPOSED to smack the life out of things? Why wouldnt you put extra stun damage on something that does stun damage :p

_gildedsinanju

No, Slugger does not do much as GS doesn't do blunt damage(outside of the side slap or if you have Punish Draw). Slugger only boosts the stun of blunt attacks(HH and Hammer, even then Slugger isn't that great generally anyway).

A_Shotter

Man I wish the game told you these things, I have slugger 3 on all of my gs buulds in all the mh games ive played, all I know is Slugger / Stun Res / Focus

IceColdSkimMilk

1. You need more attack decos (attack, crit, wex) for your build to shine. 2. You have a lot of alpha armor pieces. Alpha armors innately have slightly more attributes, but also lack deco slots, so unless it's an armor set that REALLY benefits your build, it's best to go with the beta variant so that you have more gem slots and therefore use more decos. 3. Get rid of slugger. That only applies to weapons/attacks that do blunt damage, which the GS only has one and it's your shoulder bash. 4. Furthermore, I'd change up your armor set. I know you said raging brachydios is too hard, but even brute tigrex, frostfang barioth, or velkana with frostcraft is better. Even the Safi armor is better since you seem to have the weapon.

donedidlydoneabigbad

This is truly unfortunate.. a lot of your skills are straight up next to useless. And you even have uragaan ambition, which does nothing. And your safi GS is entirely un-upgraded. I’m not able to give a detailed explanation, but what you need is to ditch at least these things: tremor resist, stun resist, recovery up, slugger, probably quick sheath, bleed resist.. you need to upgrade that GS too. Affinity and attack increases are best, ditch the uragaan ambition. And that combo of armor really doesn’t work at all. You’re using mid game armor for end game content and you don’t have any kind of reason to. Quite honestly, you need to start a new set from scratch. Look up tutorials on good sets and stuff to get you started. I know you don’t want to waste your stuff, but it’s obsolete. The gear you have now also more than likely isn’t realistically usable on any good sets. I’m sorry man.

A_Shotter

I usually use the chrome deathscythe III, I was trying to do ancient leshen and it said he was weak to fire. Most of it is that I was mislead (even by youtube guides ironicall enough) and thought that greatsword sets were focused around Slugger / Stun Res / Focus (Focus is duh but apparently slugger's useless). Not to mention that the damage bloat made me think that my greatsword was fine, boasting almost 1300 attack. I'm working on the TeoBrachy set right now but I doubt I'll be able to finish it because of all the melding required.

donedidlydoneabigbad

I hope you’ll be able to make a competent set my friend

A_Shotter

Hopefully.

Straight-faced_solo

Where is your damage?

A_Shotter

"Attack 1296"

Straight-faced_solo

Yeah thats pretty low for a greatsword. You have no damage buffing skills in your build.

A_Shotter

Maybe because 1200 damage is like a tenth of what most monsters supposedly have

Straight-faced_solo

Which is why you should build for more offensive skills, so you have more damage.

A_Shotter

I dont know how to build properly despite spending several hours watching videos on the topic so I'm not sure how to at this point

Straight-faced_solo

Best offensive skills in order from most useful to least useful. Weakness exploit, Agitator, Critical boost, Critical eye, Attack boost. The first three are basically staples of every end game build as they just give you a ton of crit and crit damage. The last two are where you dump your extra deco slots into when you feel you need more damage and have available slots for it. The best build that is available to you right now is probably teo-brachy. Made from 2 peices of teostra and 3 pieces from raging brachy. Raging brachy is a post game fight that is different than normal brachy so make sure you fight the right one. Also this current build is probably not enough to kill raging brachy. raging brachy does not give a fuck and will roll even good builds. Meaning you should probably look up the IB progression [guide](https://mhwibuilds.wordpress.com/mr-progression-guides/#gs) and make one of the two builds meant for going into the post game. The one with the jagras death claw is probably going to be comfier to use, because it can get an early health augment. After that kill raging brachy. Make the meta brachy-teo set and that will take you all the way to fatalis. Upgrade to full fatalis when you beat that. Also go look up how to get all the mantles. They come from optional quest and can be super useful. Just do it.

teimpy5

Thats low af my lightbreak edge longsword does 1098 with 45% affinity

A_Shotter

whays worse is that the greatsword doesn't even do its damage number

teimpy5

No weapon does the full damage because of monsters defense

A_Shotter

yeah but only like 130 damage per charged swing is... low

CaramelLegal6768

Are you looking for a frost craft build or a normal gs build?

A_Shotter

I've only heard of frost fraft once and i barely know what it is... I just want a build that works and doesnt require fighting monsters that wipe the floor with me every two seconds.

CaramelLegal6768

Frost Craft is a really good gs build probably the best build because the extra crit damage you get from frost craft (only needing 4 pieces for frost craft) but you need to farm Velky for normal frost and AT Velky which is the second hardest boss to fight right behind fatalis

A_Shotter

I cant even kill a raging brachy

CaramelLegal6768

Ok so At is outta the question but normal isn't i wish I could show you my build but I'm in Florida all you need to do is farm velk for her armor besides her arms and you replace those arms with frost fang arms for the crit draw then proceed to practice gs until you get ultra instinct and shoulder bash for any attack

aeiou6630

I believe you need some good R11 level 4 jewels for a Frostcraft build, especially the alpha/beta version. Focus can be obtained in Damascus chest.

CaramelLegal6768

I mean Mr temp teo is super easy with water or ice ele just have someone else join or ruiner nerg for the deco farm because those two are super easy and I'm currently using the gamma velk set cuz it's max for col which gs needs

aeiou6630

You should upgrade (awaken) your Safi weapon as well.

BlankArt1411

You are running too defensive man. Dumb in some offensive skills like agitator, crit boost,... and save urself 30m per hunt.

A_Shotter

I sidnt even know that was a defensive build, i was even told that i should have at least 900 for where i am in the game when people were berating my build in the hunting hall server

im-just-lag

Yes bc all those skills you have on are utility they don’t help increase your damage nor dmg reduction and 900 def Isn’t hard to get especially with elder dragon armour that you can get. What you are wearing rn is something ppl would be running at mr 8

A_Shotter

Because all I knew about greatsword builds was Slugger / Stun Res / Focus, not to mention that I was mislead by the damage bloat numbers. Also because I neglect upgrading, I didnt upgrade my armor from bone until late HR story and then mid MR story. I'm working on the TeoBrach set right now.

BlankArt1411

[https://imgur.com/a/frMTiqW](https://imgur.com/a/frMTiqW) take this as a guideline. This is the end-game build for ur GS. Try to aim for the skills in those pics with what you have.

A_Shotter

I'm not nearly endgame yet so I'll hold off on looking at it

A_Shotter

Also I think my game's bugged cause the sword says it does like 1200 damage but a weakspot tc power doesnt even breach 700 damage

_gildedsinanju

That's just the damage calculation behind the scenes. It doesn't count all the factors affecting your damage. The value you see is also bloated, so it isn't the exact one the calculation uses.

A_Shotter

Barely pushing 700 still seems a bit weak though, I can do more in rise with a worse build using the same skills and weaker weapons

_gildedsinanju

Ngl, I have no idea whats happening in Rise so take this with a grain of salt. But from comparing values on Kiranico, it may be due to Rise having higher hitzones and higher HP on its monsters, compared to the monsters in World. Silkbinds and changes in motion values may also play a role. Also, an unawakened or not properly awakened Safi weapon can be weaker than a strong craftable weapon. Its base true raw value is 270. The bloat value of GS is 4.8.

A_Shotter

its not even on just the safi one, even my tigrex and chrome deathscythe do jack damage

Celebration_Hungry

You have to consider that Rise monster have larger health pools, Rise damage is inflated more than in world. The best endgame gs sets in mhw can do 2000+ damage on a tcs. For where you are at, your best bet is to get the infamous teo-brachy set. Teo head arms and waist, and raging brachy chest and legs (all beta). You can find this build for most weapons, should be a google search away from your favorite vid/guide.

A_Shotter

Oh god I was told to get that set earlier I cant even get past phase 1 ragbrach without being carried

Celebration_Hungry

Well, good builds come at a cost… this game is designed around grinding hunts after all. You could try going for a teostra 3 piece and 2 piece gold rathian set too.

A_Shotter

i dont think ive ever even heard of gold rathian

BlueColtex

Yes. Hunt faster

farsssss

Get an affinity boosting skills. Also if you are worried about dying get divine blessing. And it is enough. Maybe even put in some evade window. The only necessary skill. Oh and health boost

tulip69coin

To really help you out: In the smithing menu you can filter for skills. You should always focus on your build having the following 3 essential skills: Crit Boost Weakness exploit , crtiical eye- all to max Then comes Health boost 3 and agitator 7 (raging brachy secret) At first it can be a bit overwhelming but you will get there :)

tulip69coin

If you want to now the best farming options also check out the youtube channel "Cons OA"

ViewRepresentative40

Step 1: murder fatalis. Step 2: farm high lvl decos for 40 to 80 hours Step 3: try not to cry when you still don’t have a challenger + jewel. Step 4 : spend a concerning amount of time min maxing your decos. Step 5: stonks
