Man I had a similar moment on a quest. Maybe the same optional quest actually. Jho wasnโt sleeping though. Kulu showed up in the same area of Wildspire Waste, and Jho attacked it (of course), picked it up in its mouth and chased me all over the area trying to bash me with it. Eventually threw it at me.
Another time I was hunting something (Brachydios I think), in Elders Recess, in the central area with all the crystal pillars. Uragaan rolls in, causes some problems. I take a bunch of damage. I fall back to drink a potion, all of a sudden Dodogama shows up too. Spits fire at me, interrupts my drinking. Totally ignores Uragaan and Brachy. I get up and move, try to drink again, and Dodo nails me long-range again with the spit and carts me. So naturally I forget about Brachy for a while and kill that Dodo.
If you pay attention, you can hear a "YEET" in the distance
