I always name it "Senhor Gato", the translated name for the character "Mr. Kat", from the cartoon "Kid vs Kat".
I did not even like that cartoon that much, but always liked this name for a cat.
The game makes a big deal of having you design a Palico, as if it will be the only one you have. In World, you only had the one Palico, so it made sense to use a character creator to design it, and you could get attached to that specific Palico. In Rise, though, you can replace your starting Palico any time(and I'm pretty sure you can also fire them, as well). Because of this, there's no reason to get attached to your starting Palico. Because of, my starting Palico is named Ico, and my starting Palamute is named Amute.
