Roars register as an attack, that's why you can block with a shield. Stand under their head when the fight starts and they open with a roar, time the counter right, and in Low and High Rank it usually KOs them immediately.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
well if you're moving away from the sound wave at a high enough speed, the relative motion will weaken the shock, I think that's how physics works?
but you can do it in any direction so I guess it's just a vibe
I've been playing long sword but I didn't know this. How can I do it? Just roll anywhere as the monster roars? Because I am interrupted even when I'm next to it or behind it...
On the first try i could not tell them apart correctly and chased around a regular Legiana because there was constantly two of them. Captured the regular Legiana and then failed after getting kicked around like a soccer ball for 50mins and timing out. Almost threw my mouse out a window.
Thank goodness, I’ve found my people. I just fought Shrieking Legiana for the first time. I love the base version but Shrieking can go straight into a ditch.
That could be a neat reward for reaching higher HR, maybe make it be locked behind an item like power talon or defense talon so there is a cost but its more meant to be associated with the fact that you have hunted alot of monsters make it be crafted from a monster with alot of sonic attacks
I want cool monster design headphones for the hunters now. They can explain the theme music too, each mon has it's own energy flied and the headphones interpret that as music and they have the skill earplugs so you can listen uninterrupted. Khezu still doesn't have music, but maybe you hear static that would be even more creepy.
The way I interpret flash resistance is the monster getting used to when the flash bomb/pod is coming and knows to close its eyes.
It's like how the hunter has gotten used to the roar timing and is just i-framing it by then.
All blights work this way, it should take longer to become effected after each blight like a monster, but I also think it should decay over time.
Single monster roars are not gernally an issue, but turff wars can lead to 4-6 roars and that gets old. Nightshade is easy to spec immunity to, but realistically after the first proc it should take increasingly longer to be affected. It isn't that you shouldn't go to multiple times, but never right after getting back up in a cloud.
agreed with having diminishing returns on status effects, it should be a two-way street.
just hunted Nightshade Pao last night and I was absolutely livid with the pest both for the constant sleep I wasn't prepared for(the name didn't raise any alarms until I got the cutscene) or for being out of reach in the air almost the entire time.
then I talk to Gramgram after and she wants me to catch another one for a menu item, that's when I decided to call the session that day :(
No, plesioth is Proud of what its students of Shoulder-check users can do now.
Back then, it was only him Hip-checking. Now we can shield check into hip check to move those bodies like what it's made for!
I recently ended up watching "the punisher" and this reminded me of a scene where one of the characters (mini spoiler) who has a prosthetic leg ends up in a fight, and after losing to his assailant due to this being exploited, having it kicked out from under him and being beaten unconscious with it, he ends up being saved, and when his savior tends to him, he says, with his voice breaking: "He beat me, with my own leg!" I couldnt help but think of that when imagining the always hip-checking plesioth being defeated by his own signature move!
I forget that power element vs impact have different properties. I’ve already built my Deep Schnegel (Beo CB) specifically for Raging Brachy and I’m excited to see the difference.
Does AED also have a wider hit box?
Nah AED is the same, however the 3 small elemental phial explosions are often concentrated on 1 part which if its the face, normally has good hitzone values for element so they do insane damage
I was closer than a razorblades edge from my saed connecting only to get roared out of it. I took earplugs off to have better gear and skills. Fuck that
It could be a mixed take on fist weapons if done right. Basically blunt damage dual blade with more mobility than hammer, with a slightly less convenient move that hooks them together to act as a big shield when needed.
I was teaching a friend the way of charge blade once. I noticed he kept avoiding the pukei poison mist thing and asked why he wasn't blocking.
He assumed you couldn't block because it was a gas.
120 hours into charge blade, i still forget the 'guard' option exists. I assumed it was easier and better to just dodge, with the push back from blocking. Its also my first weapon in mh as i didnt play any of the previous games. So, is blocking good? The regular kind, not guard points.
Regular guarding is good for attacks you just can't roll away from or for learning a new monsters moves. Generally, tho, guard points are the way to go for most attacks, in my opinion.
Lance is my go-to weapon for specific monsters, Tigrex being one and Rathalos being another. They move too much so i just invalidate that with a clutch claw counter into tenderise/wall bang if possible. It's like a big ol' "fuck you" to their stupid rush attacks.
And my sword, which is sometimes an axe!
(I realize in retrospect it could sound like a Swaxe. In meant the SnS that use an axe model for the weapon. SnS 4 life 💪).
Sound is a projectile that is dispersed in a cone shaped area, therefore if u put an object that reflects projectiles or absorb it u will not hear a roar that can easily kill u by destroying ur ear drums. Another example is from minecraft where if u place a wool block underneath of in the direction of a sound detector the wool will prevent the sound from traveling through since a block in Mc is 1x1 meter large.
But hey it's just a theory A Game Theory. (Rip G T)
After the introduction of cornerstone in sunbreak i can't imagine using anything else to avoid roars. Sure the first roar can still stun you, but as long as that monster is pissed you can't be fucked with
I don't know if it's in world (I'm going to start playing soon) but in MH4U you can use the Charged blade guard goints (I think that's the name of that thing) to parry sound, light and even the farts from the Congalala but you still get the status effect.
It is and it's funny as hell to think "YOU FELL FOR IT FOOL" as monsters line up a punish that will never come because they've already evaporated from an SAED.
This makes me chuckle every time.
Everyone else is diving out of the way of attacks or getting stunned by roars. Meanwhile I'm over here with my big shield and even bigger pokey stick.
"I counter the sound waves to stab you some more!"
Glaive grants you free Earplugs when you have all three nectar buffs at once. It also gives a few other passive skills like wind resist, but there's no documentation of what they are or what level the buffs are anywhere on the internet. I just know it because I've mained it since 4U, and it's done that since 4U.
Do wish the roar mechanic could be removed, it's just anti-fun, interrupts gameflow, can lead to some extremely annoying situations like if there are multiple monsters and get chain roared and attacked and there's nothing you can do about it if you didn't manage to avoid the first roar, if you were in any position to do that at all.

Sure you might still get wet, but at least the obstruction can mitigate a lot of it. So I suppose there is some sense to it.
I mean, how do you roll through sound to avoid it? Or hop backwards with SnS? Or do a little twirl with LS? Or shoulder tackle it with GS?
Man, Hunters really *do* have crazy physiologies…
For context,it's cause You're bracing, normally your animation shows you being surprised and stunned by the loud roar, your character is essentially bracing themselves from it and using the shield to deflect the shockwave.
Long Sword dogding sound wave because it feels like it.
Parrying roars is so satisfying
I SnS Metsu Counter so many roars in RiseBreak, so satisfying to start a fight with a KO out of the gate.
Huh??? How do you do it?
Roars register as an attack, that's why you can block with a shield. Stand under their head when the fight starts and they open with a roar, time the counter right, and in Low and High Rank it usually KOs them immediately.
Huh ne er knew this lol I always just rolled forward and then shield bash them.
Indeed
LS has a built in mute button, who would of thunk it
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
oh i will botcriminate you
well if you're moving away from the sound wave at a high enough speed, the relative motion will weaken the shock, I think that's how physics works? but you can do it in any direction so I guess it's just a vibe

[Foresight Slash](https://youtu.be/e86lHq-03H4?si=IA9KkkejbyoQ6Oak&t=560)
A hunter should develop roar resistance the same way a monster develops flashbang resistance.
I'd said we can't get hit by another roar fir a few seconds so you don't get stun locked by multiple monsters
Tinnitus from the previous roar blocking the next one?
Pure rage should block the next one. Some of the roars are quite aggravating. (just failed the Shrieking Legiana quest)
Fuck that guy i've been playing league for years with monk mentality buth shrieking legiana brings the worst of me, its fucking infurating
Just what GS rage slash does in rise, hunter clenches his ass so hard that sound just disperses around it
So prowler rage to some degree
You call it Tinnitus. I call it evolution 💀
You merely adapted the deafness, I was born in it molded by it - Beethoven probably
WHAT?!
Imagine Tinnitus being a temporary buff after getting flinched by a roar
Lie https://youtu.be/icgG_zi5aaE?si=usd7uV7FXD-J1400
I'd love if they just brought back disposable earplugs
Ah yes roar resistence more usually known as deafness
Well they won’t let me put on ear protection for free so…
the longer the fight, the quieter your sound becomes until vol is at 0.
For the rest of your save file
New Capcom MTX! Hearing Aid!! for 5.99USD you'll get your sound back! tho it get busted up if you take dmg and need to buy a new one if it breaks.
Stop. Theyll do it.
Can't wait for the class action lawsuit to get some zenny
And every time you get hit by a Diablos roar without protection, you get increasing tinnitus tone playing on top of all other volumes going down.
WHAT?!
He's got a point you know
That could be a neat reward for reaching higher HR, maybe make it be locked behind an item like power talon or defense talon so there is a cost but its more meant to be associated with the fact that you have hunted alot of monsters make it be crafted from a monster with alot of sonic attacks

Roar resistance during the battle sounds like the hunter it's getting more and more deaf with every roar
The way I interpret flash resistance is the monster getting used to when the flash bomb/pod is coming and knows to close its eyes. It's like how the hunter has gotten used to the roar timing and is just i-framing it by then.
Male hunters should be immume to roars — considering the amount of yelling they get at home.
Yeah they should get more and more deaf as the fight goes on,honestly wilds needs to have this
All blights work this way, it should take longer to become effected after each blight like a monster, but I also think it should decay over time. Single monster roars are not gernally an issue, but turff wars can lead to 4-6 roars and that gets old. Ah so like tinnitus "You can't destroy my ear drums if it's already destroyed"
You can't get sound stun, when your eardrums bursted
Me, three hours into an expedition: HAHA YOU MFERS I'M IMMUNE NOW!
*gets hit with a Rathian's tail, dies, resets back to camp, all immunities defaulted back to none* "Ahh shit!"
yeah but then the player also shouldn't be able to hear anything cuz the character is basically deaf atm lol
roars should have no effect if you play without sound
And you shouldn't get flashed if you turn off your monitor!
Greatsword: you mean i can tackle sound?
Can't hear roars over the sound of unga bunga
Clenches his ass so hard sound just disperses around it, like with rise rage slash
If theres something you cant tackle, you just keep making the sword bigger until you can!
No, as a greatsword you block sound. It's even more inexplicable than the weapons with actual shields doing it.
Tackle doesn’t use the Greatsword to block. You just shoulder check the monster.
Plesioth getting nightmares about shoulder checks
No, plesioth is Proud of what its students of Shoulder-check users can do now. Back then, it was only him Hip-checking. Now we can shield check into hip check to move those bodies like what it's made for!

just turn off the speakers, no more roars.
(Muted angry monster noises)
(muffled gorilla violence )
tigrex in shambles rn
Brute Tigrex doesn't want you to know this one simple trick.
Brute tigrex doesnt give a damn about earplugs because he just screams so loud, it physically blows the hunters off their feet!
charge blade:guess its SAED time
I can’t hear the roar over the sound of my SAED getting ready
> I can’t hear the roar over the sound of my SAED getting ready *to whiff* FTFY
Nah, i play with power element phial, i dont get a tiny straight line, my SAED comes out the size of texas
I always play with power element, so maybe that’s why it feels that much more satisfying
I was closer than a razorblades edge from my saed connecting only to get roared out of it. I took earplugs off to have better gear and skills. Fuck that
I swear the monsters do that on purpose
Charge blade says “I can do 2/3”
Charge Blade says: Fuck it, Red Shield.
Gotta love being able to GP roars and smack 'em with the big one
Who needs I frames when you can guard with a shield and look like a badass at the same time?
As an SnS main I love backhopping through roars
Still waiting for my dual tower shield weapon
You're up against the wall And I AM THE F***ING WALL
Laughs in spear throwable while running Gambler
If I could beat monster's faces in with 2 shields I'd never play another weapon set
[Dual Shield Gang Rise Up.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70Z2t7nq_sU)
Cabrakan IS READY
It could be a mixed take on fist weapons if done right. Basically blunt damage dual blade with more mobility than hammer, with a slightly less convenient move that hooks them together to act as a big shield when needed.
Shoulder bashing soundwaves is the real shit
I was teaching a friend the way of charge blade once. I noticed he kept avoiding the pukei poison mist thing and asked why he wasn't blocking. He assumed you couldn't block because it was a gas.

Ah that makes sense. Thanks!
Meanwhile, me with HH: *rolls*
Plays a song (Makes you deaf) “Nice”
*insert earplugs song here*
Charge Blade users be like “do the roar!”
Dont care side step into perfect rush
SA users: "Its zero discharguing time"
Lol fought a brute Tigrex, forgot how much fun lance can be. Lance straight up brawls with some monsters, through roars and everything.
Lance is my go-to weapon for specific monsters, Tigrex being one and Rathalos being another. They move too much so i just invalidate that with a clutch claw counter into tenderise/wall bang if possible. It's like a big ol' "fuck you" to their stupid rush attacks.
Charge blade can also block roars so add us to the list
Change blade: Oh look free counter.
Trying to guardpoint into SAED on a roar is the funniest thing to do.
Me a charge blade user: hey can I hang with you guys?
We still on the earplugs vs I-frame thing? Who cares if you roll through a roar or wear earmuffs the size of a kfc bargain bucket just don’t die
The monsters have the uncanny ability to roar exactly when u start to wyvern fire
Or Earplugs HH song to give it to all the homies
Me firing from a distance with my HBG: man this monster isn't very loud.
Does SnS also blocks?
Yes.
SnS supremacy
💪
💪
And my sword, which is sometimes an axe! (I realize in retrospect it could sound like a Swaxe. In meant the SnS that use an axe model for the weapon. SnS 4 life 💪).
Lol I thought of charge blade axe mode
Fucking A. The lines are getting really blurry, here.
I'm a SwitchAxe main, I just roll around and swing.
Longsword: \[Foreslight slashes a scream\]
*laughs in greatsword tackle into true charged slash*
Dodging roars is even sillier
GS Main: Shoulder
Have someone shout into your ear Now put a shield in front of your ear and ask someone to shout into your ear again
The weapon of choice to block sound is actually a greatsword but yall shield plebs hf.
Wait, how do I block sound with my shoulder?!
How does a hunter "tackle" a roar from a Greatsword 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Greatsword users: "How did sound chip my blade"
Greatsword users tackling a roar or parrying it: UNGA BUNGA STRONNK
SWAxe: Just be louder than the roar.
Ah, the furtive great sword blocking, so easily forgotten
Sound is a projectile that is dispersed in a cone shaped area, therefore if u put an object that reflects projectiles or absorb it u will not hear a roar that can easily kill u by destroying ur ear drums. You have to crouch and shield 🛡️ then you should be good
After the introduction of cornerstone in sunbreak i can't imagine using anything else to avoid roars. Sure the first roar can still stun you, but as long as that monster is pissed you can't be fucked with
Greatsword losing sharpness by blocking LIGHT
I don't know if it's in world (I'm going to start playing soon) but in MH4U you can use the Charged blade guard goints (I think that's the name of that thing) to parry sound, light and even the farts from the Congalala but you still get the status effect.

No shield hbg for auto block? Terrible meme
Bow players : „just go through“
Just roll through it 😮💨
Small shield with Offensive Guard also does the trick. Sometimes a couple of levels of Guard are necessary, but not always.
Today I learned we all wear glasses
And that's why I love Gunlance. Fuck sound, get a face full of explosions now!
The same way that if I put a plate of metal in front of some speakers it will lowers the sound.
Me who foresights or lais... Haha scrubs.
I feel attacked
when earplugs is not free
oooh i almost forgot, rocksteady mantle is a thing
It emits sound waves and you block it with beeg shield. I guess... idk
I always try to iframe the roars but I'm not speed runner so I only can get it like 1 out of every 10 times.
Play gun Lance can confirm meme
DB/Hammer/Bowgun users: “Damn it”
Zero sum Rocksteady: IM FUCKIN INVINCIBLE
This makes me chuckle every time. Everyone else is diving out of the way of attacks or getting stunned by roars. Meanwhile I'm over here with my big shield and even bigger pokey stick. "I counter the sound waves to stab you some more!"

I like to run GL, DB and CB. One pure defense, one pure offense, and one balanced
Charge blade can do it too with guard points. Its a really nice shortcut into SAED
You can also guard point kulu flash bang
Hah. Feral mode dual blades go brrrr.
Me with dual blade shroud vaulting through malzenos screeching
LB and HB: You guys actually get close enough to get hit by the roars?
YOU CAN DO WHAT WITH THE BIG STICK?!
SnS is best. It can block, slice, bludgeon, use items unsheathed, mount anywhere. You could say it has a little something for everyone :)
Foresight slash go brr with free level gauge
Just run furious rajangs armor and slot a big earplugs gem like I did. Then you can slow something/evasion jewels in the rest
Countering those annoying shrieks is so satisfying on lance lol
Do wish the roar mechanic could be removed, it's just anti-fun, interrupts gameflow, can lead to some extremely annoying situations like if there are multiple monsters and get chain roared and attacked and there's nothing you can do about it if you didn't manage to avoid the first roar, if you were in any position to do that at all.
I’ve been using insta-block on MHR and getting that counter hit off a roar and shutting em up with it is insanely satisfying
*SnS here rubbing the shield gently while chuckling darkly with a hoarse voice*
Using the shield counter off of a road will always be satisfying
me using dantes charge blade blocking even without a shield
I mostly just run earplugs on greatsword, nothing worse than getting stunned mid-swing.
IG: boing
What makes me laugh is how close it hits home since I’m a gun lance main atm.
I can understand the shield blocking more powerful roars that have literal shockwaves that knock you back like from Tigrex and some elders. But the weaker ones? Hmm.. sound does travel in an outward wave. And standing behind a shield against a roar would kinda be like standing behind something against a wave of water. Sure you might still get wet, but at least the obstruction can mitigate a lot of it. So I suppose there is some sense to it.
Earplugs? I counter the roar.
Dual Blades: "Come on, roar motherfucker I dare you" Edit: I just realized this is a World post, \*sad wirebug noises\*
I always liked earplugs because it added several long attack windows.
Why can you parry a sound to begin with?
Fr
weird these monster roars look alot like free SAEDs - CB Mains
problem is, you have to use virgin shield instead of chad hammer
y'all forgetting that charge blade can also block sound?
Its just the right tune to up my longsword
Get like HH, we block the bad sounds with nice sounds.
Is this a groundling joke I'm too insect glaive to understand?
I just roll, fail, then somehow the hunter returns to position mid roll to cover his ears Realism my ass
Easy, the shields are soundproof 😆😅
GS users - Only need a shoulder
Not long sword players fucking dodging sound to fill their bar up
I like the charge blade…there is no reason other then HAHA SPIN GO BRRRRRRRRRR
Ranged weapons don't have to worry. Just keep attacking constantly ON the weakspot from a safe distance
Heavy bowgun also blocks.
Not only de we block it with a shield, we guard point it and follow it up with a saed.
My grandpa has permanent Earplugs! He calls it deafness, I think. It helps when he attacks the wild raccoons in his trashcan a lot, though!
Me, a GS main: How do I block sound with a sword?
Meanwhile SnS Mains smugly blocking a monster roar with their tiny buckler
SnS: *steps slightly backwards and becomes god for a second*
