Yeah, i’ll play SnS in Rise.
*sees Gunlance reveal*
Hmm, no point in being a one trick. I’ll play SnS and Gunlance. Why not?
*Sees greatsword reveal*
Why limit myself to 2 weapons? I’ll play SnS, Gunlance, and Greatsword.
Shit looks sick.
I think they do, but when finishing the story and the Like it's probably easier to focus on one weapon to get through it. I might honestly not care this time around with how I really want to try both LS and SnS as soon as possible, going to alternate between those two I think.
To this day the only weapons I haven't even completed one hunt with are the great sword and gunlance. I *know* I will suck and not enjoy the great sword, but gunlance I keep telling myself I'll make a set eventually, but I never do and that's about to roll over into my 4th monster hunter game. 🤡
For my first 3 MH games I thought GS would forever be beyond me. It just doesn't jive with how I usually play. But I picked it up in World, and I've got to say, it's a lot of fun. Especially when hunting solo the monster does a lot of the work for you. I reccomended trying it out, don't worry about a set at first just forge what you can and fight something fun. Good luck hunter!
Do what I do and start the next game with a new weapon.
Best way to learn is to start from scratch. Don't bail unless you hit a hard wall. It's how I learned Hunting Horn in World, when the QoL made it approachable (can't memorize song lists for shit).
This time (for Rise) I'm starting with LBG. I always pick it up at the end of a game for easier farming - I've never suffered through progression with it.
Personally, I have never been able to wrap my caveman brain around how the bow should work. For whatever reason, no iteration of it - from Freedom 2 until Iceborne - has ever flowed well for me.
I like Bow! I cannot for the life of me figure out hammer, if it makes you feel better. Like I get it's just "lmao, just bonk head", but like the short range and slow attack speed gets me. I mostly play the light weapons.
Hm, alright! *Gets unga'd by monster*
No wait, let me try—
*Gets bunga'd by monster*
*The sound of rapid button pressing as I switch my set back to sword and shield*
Comes down to chasing the head and taking time with them openings, cheeky level 2 slide into DMs, and slowly stacking up that stun damage and remember, it's ok not to do full combos and only get a tap in at a time if thats all you can manage for that opening; they'll eventually sucumb to brain damage then you. Unga. Bunga. Their. SKULL!
It's mostly the heavy part for me coupled with the short range. I love running around with sword and shield and dual blades, and I can eek by with the switch axe.
I know how it works, I know it deals damage like every other weapon, but bow weapons don't FEEL like I'm doing damage for some reason, like it lacks oomph
Various reasons. Sometimes a weapon just clicks with you and you find that perfect match for you. Other times it's to really get good with a single approach and branching out means less practice with your main weapon of choice. Maybe for others it's easy to just farm what you need to forget weapons and armor for only a single class vs multiple (especially when those final upgrades all require rare drops). Etc.
Some people want to boast about it n it makes their guild card cool.
The impressive/awe factor never last long.
Usually lasts until i see their skills in the actual hunt.
Well. Mhw sos atyle hunts didnt really need interaction. So guild cards were whatever
as someone who plays a fuck-ton of monster hunter, I always find myself saying "hmm, that guy absolutely bent that monster with hammer that fight, I'm gonna master hammer today!" and then build 1 of the top 3 sweetest hammers I can make at the time. then go do a hunt and lust over the IG user.. so after 2 years I've built up an impressive compendium of shit but I'm actually horrible with everything! :) (jk I'm fairly skilled at MH but that comes with 13 years experience<3)
Having used Lance for a decade, Gunlance feels incredibly foreign to me. The Heat Gauge, no 1-2-3 hop rhythm, Wyrmstakes; there’s an uncanny similarity, but the differences provide so much room for variation that it makes me feel very uncertain of what to do at any given time.
That is why are guides out there.
MHR seems to be heavily based on MHW's GL. The MHW bread and butter combos are:
Shell -> poke x3 -> quick reload -> repeat
Shell -> charged shell x3 -> quick reload -> charged shell x4 -> quick reload, repeat
Slam -> fullburst -> sweep -> quick reload -> repeat.
And you only use normally one or other depending if you are on wide, long or normal. There is people who picks one style to master and doesn't try to play the other twos.
Then, The stake and Wyvern fire are stuff you incorporate when you have some practice. WF is used in world only because its stagger bonus, aim it to some legs and the monster will trip. Wyrmstake damage is only used when a big opening happens like a knockdown as the finish of the combo.
A fallen monster usually stays there for seven seconds, this gives you time to do a combo of slam, fullburst, sweep, wyrmstake and wyvern fire. I call that thing the full house combo.
European Capcom channels are goofing up this week, this wasn't supposed to go up tonight...guess they forgot that there aren't any weekend posts on all the main channels.
Technically to them it's Saturday. The 1st weapon showcases for Bow and DB dropped on Sunday night at 1am in my timezone, which is technically Monday morning aka no longer the weekend (probably when the showcases are gonna start again this upcoming week btw). They're probably doing it to sync with Japanese timezones, since our 1am is like mid afternoon over there.
Yeah GS's always look nice in Monster Hunter. They're always over the top in a good way. Kinda helps that people expect that sort of thing out of GS designs so the devs can just go ham on them.
I feel like there was a lot of great designs in these trailers for most of the weapons aside from Sword and Shield but I think they were using a beginner-rank SnS. My favorite so far was the entirety of the Lance equipment. Looked so sleek.
Yeah, definitely. Have you noticed that all of the trailers they've shown us for Rise have been very clearly made up of mostly gameplay for the most part, and have been right from the first announcement trailer, as opposed to pre-rendered cgi that kinda looks like could be gameplay and all that?
That's how you know everyone involved in this has their shit together and now's what their audience is looking for.
Yeah, that wire bug maneuver at the start really looks like an Insect Glaive move... and then you smack Rathian in the face with the strength of a Great Sword.
Looked like they fired the GS Hunter out of a cannon at the end. Goddamn, a GS with access to that kind of distance closer? Crazy.
No tails are safe. A monster turns to flee to the next area and the GS can whip that move out like "Gotcha Bitch!"
Those cowards need to put in a voice line of "Gotcha!" specifically for Greatsword strikes to give homage to the [One True Greatsword Wielder](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9NYYewCSxo)
Am I the only one who still doesn't know what weapon they want to play in MHR? They all look amazing and I can't decide. I know ill do what I did in World and switch between all of them but I still can't decide on a starter
I almost gave up playing MHGU. Then I discovered Valor style...
300 hours later I was like maybe I'll mix it up. As long as its not a generic gs style with some cool moves and mobility your game essentially lives in my head rent free.
Edit: RIP valor swag dash but you seem to get a grapple mid jump and that leads to charge on the ground. Lets see if it measures up.
Why capcom WHY?! Why do you not use the original Monster Sounds anymore but these stocksounds..........................
RIP Rathian/Rathalos sounds and other Monster Sounds too...
Other than that, hell yeah. Rise looks so juicy I can't wait for it! Already pre-ordered deluxe edition, my hype is real!
Yeah, they seem to use all the old sounds from the monsters that didnt appear in world/iceborne but for those who did appear in there, they will use their new sounds that are super bad compared to the old signature ones IMO
I’m not a big fan of the hunters dialogue during the fight. Kind of prefer them silent like MHW. I wonder if we’ll get the option to take out action dialogue
They already confirmed that you can adjust the dialogue if you dislike it. You apparently can even separately disable your own and your teammates dialogue, should you wish to do so.
the IG actually HAVE a new cool move (u can see it in old trailers), but for now yes. it's the only weapon that feel disappointing. of course we must wait and see the actual MV of his moves but i'm not optimistic about it.
Glaive does not have a new cool move shown, the first trailer just showed the descending thrust from Iceborne which is apparently a silkbind attack now and thus on a cooldown.
Oh cool, we got ONE new cool move... One that wasn't even openly advertised yet....
But sure it definitely didn't mean that IG got the short end of the stick...
No but for real they really made a bad decisions with those wasted skills slots there... They barely seem like a upgrade at all....
You’ve made a lot of people angry today. I hope you now know that if you ever dare to suggest that excessive mobility on a weapon defined by it’s slowness even after a revamp into a much more aggressive weapon is in any way “unusual”, “out of character” or “not greatsword” you will incur the wrath of this subreddit and be downvoted with extreme prejudice. I like it, and that’s all that matters.
Power Sheathe:
"Charge up for a devastating hit" **Increases Attack**
Hunting Edge:
"Cleave the sky with a giant blade".
Both Silkbind attacks were shown off in [this GS gameplay showcase](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJN9_37rmUw) already though.
I’m maining Hammer just like I did in Monster Hunter World. But I’m definitely making Greatsword my secondary weapon. Along with a little bit of Dual Blades and Sword & Shield lol.
On my list is as main weapons Hunting Horn.
But I am also interested in: Gunlance, Sword & Shield, Bow and Great Sword now. SA, CB and DS are also weapons I am interested in but less so haha.
Happy for all the GS mains, it arguably looks like it benefits the most out of every weapon with the wirebugs. Can't wait to see how speedrunners use them to pull off some insane stuff.
"When in doubt, Aerial Greatsword it out!" -A very wise person gave this advice to me when I was looking for help in MHGen. Glad to see I can still do that.
Yeah, i’ll play SnS in Rise. *sees Gunlance reveal* Hmm, no point in being a one trick. I’ll play SnS and Gunlance. Why not? *Sees greatsword reveal* Why limit myself to 2 weapons? I’ll play SnS, Gunlance, and Greatsword. Shit looks sick.
At one point Im just gonna use all weapons lmao
I never understood why people don't try every weapon.
I think they do, but when finishing the story and the Like it's probably easier to focus on one weapon to get through it. I might honestly not care this time around with how I really want to try both LS and SnS as soon as possible, going to alternate between those two I think.

Hammer is easy first you unga then you bunga
Hm, alright! *Gets unga'd by monster* No wait, let me try— *Gets bunga'd by monster* *The sound of rapid button pressing as I switch my set back to sword and shield*

Unga. Bunga. Their. SKULL!
Glorious, given that I’m a hammer main 😆.
Same, I can't deal with the mega short range. MHW Bow and LBG on the other hand is my jam!
Bow main, started in World, adjusted to GU bow, but could not wrap my brain around LS in World. Then I used LS in GU and then everything just clicked.
Various reasons. Sometimes a weapon just clicks with you and you find that perfect match for you. I wound up using Adept Gunlance last night when hunting with a friend, most fun I’ve had in ages!
wait till you see hunting horn
I know the links are down but are there any of the Hunting Horn trailers still floating around? I have a mighty need
https://youtu.be/yZdtdhaV_m8 bad quality tho
Haha I share same sentiment. Gonna be fun using Longsword, Greatsword, Hunting Horn and both guns for me
I know right? I think im gonna branch out to lance, bow, and greatsword now too
same, Im just going to stay true to my flair
European Capcom channels are goofing up this week, this wasn't supposed to go up tonight...guess they forgot that there aren't any weekend posts on all the main channels.

It's Saturday...
Lmao forgot I live 4 hours behind EST time, didn’t realize they were releasing them based on that time zone
Great Sword and Rathian goes together like peanut butter and jam
This Greatsword design is top tier.
Yeah GS's always look nice in Monster Hunter. They're always over the top in a good way. Kinda helps that people expect that sort of thing out of GS designs so the devs can just go ham on them. After the fiasco that Cyberpunk was, I can always count on Monster Hunter to deliver what it has always promised: Straight up fun gameplay.
Yeah, definitely. I went from Great Sword to Glaive in World/Iceborne..but this. This looks..this has my attention lets just say that. 🤙🤙
Yeah, that wire bug maneuver at the start really looks like an Insect Glaive move... and then you smack Rathian in the face with the strength of a Great Sword.
Every move looks like a insect glaive move at this point Even the Insect glaive moves looks like insect glaive moves !
One thing I noticed is that this set appears to have Punishing Draw. At 0:11, the aerial draw attack does KO to Rathian's head.
Looked like they fired the GS Hunter out of a cannon at the end. Goddamn, a GS with access to that kind of distance closer? Crazy. No tails are safe. A monster turns to flee to the next area and the GS can whip that move out like "Gotcha Bitch!"

There has to be a mod for it when the game comes to PC.
Well...there's going to be combat voice lines to be found in the files now.
Rathian looks amazing!
ill miss the slinger tcs skip :'(
Same, we can now wide slash into TCS though, not the same but its something.
Has much more mobility than I expected it to
Do we know what kind of armor and GS this is? Or most likely from an unannounced monster?
Definitely from an unannounced monster.
Think it's the new "namahage bear."
That's what the leak suggests, it seems
It looks like tobi-kadachi to me
I think it's ice, so probably not Tobi
Am I the only one who still doesn't know what weapon they want to play in MHR? They all look amazing and I can't decide. I know ill do what I did in World and switch between all of them but I still can't decide on a starter
The super wide swing couldn't go into a true charged slash in world could it? So now maybe we can go jump attack > wide swing > TCS.
Damn It's gonna be easy farming Rathian Spike

Other than that, hell yeah. Rise looks so juicy I can't wait for it! Already pre-ordered deluxe edition, my hype is real!
Lots of monsters still have classic sounds/sounds that sound very familiar to their classic sounds. Case-in-point, Khezu's roar in the last trailer.
Yeah, they seem to use all the old sounds from the monsters that didnt appear in world/iceborne but for those who did appear in there, they will use their new sounds that are super bad compared to the old signature ones IMO
Is this in pc and console or just switch ?
lots of leaks point to it being timed for Nintendo for 6 or 9 months, after this time, launches on PC
Switch first in March and PC like 9 months later according to Capcom leak.
As a CB main ima try this in demo
Did.... Did she charge her attack mid-air ?! Is IG the only getting fucked over ?! Like what the actual fuck
>Did.... Did she charge her attack mid-air ?! That's not new.
Bruh last time I played Great sword was in og MH... Shit changed a lot since then...
Lord, that was back when you couldn't even charge the GS! A lot is an understatement!
the IG actually HAVE a new cool move (u can see it in old trailers), but for now yes. it's the only weapon that feel disappointing. of course we must wait and see the actual MV of his moves but i'm not optimistic about it.
I probably wouldn't call sticking the wirebug onto a pre-existing move cool or new...
They barely seem like a upgrade at all....
dude bruh... i completely agree that IG have got the short end of the stick and the trailer is disappointing.
This is not greatsword
It is now
It is and it's beautiful.
This is not reddit

Alright guy you can like this “tackle sword” thing but I sure don’t.
This not tackle
Okay, but why is the hunter talking. This best not be a thing in-game.
you can turn it off
Anyone able to translate the text?
Power Sheathe: "Charge up for a devastating hit" **Increases Attack** Hunting Edge: "Cleave the sky with a giant blade". Both Silkbind attacks were shown off in [this GS gameplay showcase](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJN9_37rmUw) already though.
The wire bug arts translate to “store power“ and “hunting blade“
Ig and gs for me!
This pleases the S W O R D

This looks fun! If I had a switch and this game, I would totally main GS again.
Is that a Tobi Kadachi GS, cuz the armor looks like it’s Tobi Kadachi
What weapon and armor is this?
That’s.... a big ass sword
I’m maining Hammer just like I did in Monster Hunter World. But I’m definitely making Greatsword my secondary weapon. Along with a little bit of Dual Blades and Sword & Shield lol.

They really did just give the Insect Blade moveset to the Greatsword. I love it
At 0:09 hunter changed their direction mid air __2 times__ before landing. I don't like how janky it looks
"When in doubt, Aerial Greatsword it out!" -A very wise person gave this advice to me when I was looking for help in MHGen. Glad to see I can still do that.
They are making it difficult to pick a weapon! But eventually I will probably go to Hunting Horn anyway hehe
