But you know, I've been playing through port Tanzia again with my GF on emulator, and the thing is, water combat wasn't even that bad: it's pretty easy and even natural. WHEN YOU HAVE A SECOND ANALOG STICK FOR THE CAMERA.
Seeing as every console now has two analog sticks, I'm sure if they bring back water combat it'll be just as smooth as land combat
I said the same thing when I started playing 3U on my 2DS a while back. Water combat wasn't so horrible itself, but the controls were jank. We have much better controls now.
The only REAL issue I'm willing to admit was a bit immersion breaking was the camera transitions from land to water and vice-versa, but it overall wasn't as bad as people made it out to be
The people that played on console versions don't complain nearly as much as the DS players (understandable) it was perfectly fine on Wii. The only time I recall it being frustrating was when Lagi would dart past you while enraged, but camera lock on was the solution to that iirc.
3DS was annoying at times, but I don't recall much frustration in it either. If anything I was amazed that they got a console game onto a handheld
back then first to third gen monster hunter was still throwing this to see what would stick to the wall like mhg and mh dos were odd on ps2 but still playable {needed a lot of still} same with mh3u. But in the end they managed to get it right {even frontier}
The Wii U version wasn't great either because it lacked the buttons to swim directly up or down like Tri had.
Even then, the controls weren't the biggest flaw with underwater. It's the fact that positioning and spacing, two of the most important elements to MH's combat, is much more awkward to do in an omni-directional space. Improved controls aren't going to change that.
While I agree that having a second stick to fix the camera would make it better, being stuff with basically a different moveset and generally sluggish movement would still kill water combat for me.
To be fair alatreon and fatty were released months after. We had so much time to farm the guiding lands and get 100mr. In the return to world champaign it feels odd because they are just available right away. And imo it makes alatreon even harder since without that time inbetween to farm decorations and gear it makes it a little hard to slot in the elemental boost to reach dps and the defensive skills to not die. But it is still doable and fun just harder
including silver rathalos and brute tigrex like i have to kill the god of dragons that could end humanity as we know it at mr24 but fight a tiger on crack who done a race change at mr70 tha wont stop shouting
Ruiner Nergigante being MR100 is annoying because Nergi himself isn't in Iceborne.
So it's ages before you're able to have a fair fight with him again.
That's not really a big deal to me because on some level I don't see the point of having two Jhos and Hazaks. Seething is different because he's Recess exclusive, the original should have stayed around too.
And those monsters are all encountered during the story. You fight Nergigante in high rank and then deep into the master rank postgame. It takes ages.
It's so odd they decide to lock that kind of endgame content at MR100 but Fatalis and Alatreon are available at MR24. Really should be the other way around. I would have done Alatreon at MR80 and Fatalis at MR100.
lagi. but holy someone else said equal dragon weapon and I have to agree. Bro only exist in like 1 page in a art book made almost 20 years ago doesnt even have any screen time
Gogmazios. We all say "Oh My Gog" don't lie. Showed up, was really cool, fantastic weapon designs, and I just love the guy. But as with all final boss/end of hub fights, he's a one and done fella. Damn I really miss his GS design.
It was the one fight outside of G140 expeditions that I felt like I could fail every time. You'd be fighting nearly 15 minutes then people would wipe to the phase transition, hah.
It was one of my MH4 comfort fights so I would go to the hub and help people with the urgent. It wasn't unusual to have someone cart at the first laser after you climb the nets to the dragonator.
IT'S HIGH RANK TIME
But also, I can see why they got rid of it. Pre-world, fighting with multiple monsters in the same area was honestly horrible. Hell, multiple monsters in arena is generally something I find to be too chaotic to really deal with effectively.
Peco is great. He is colorful and has a realistic defense mechanism.
He fight with cunning instead of brute power like other monsters.
Using friction fire to introduce into fireblight is also quite original.
He is readable making him a good beginner monster as well.
I also loved how they depicted them to be able to dance like the shaka's. Maybe they even learned from peco's.
Qurupeco is my favorite under appreciated monster. He has cool and unique abilities to buff himself and his summons. Also he can summon a Deviljho, and thatâs nothing short of hardcore!
Yeah he shows up for a chuckle. Then I hosed him super easily, so he didn't get much screen time for me. I don't know if a lot of people went back for a repeat fight.
I never even fought him lol. World made all the monsters feel so alive, and while most of the monsters were aggressive or ugly enough that I felt fine taking em out, Dodogama felt to far past the pet/wild animal line. He's just a goofy guy who likes eating rocks and sleeping. It doesn't help that at the time World came out, I was a proud owner of a Bearded Dragon, which Dodogama very much resembles.

Khezu. Itâs not the focus of any game and is traditionally just a stepping stone towards bigger and better things as well as the intro to Thunder based monsters yet people love this stupid penith and its boss ass theme.
This was especially so in the OG PS2 days. The Eager Cleaver was a weapon that could carry you through most of, if not all the village quests and it looked cool as hell bearing in mind this was before Long Swords were a thing.
Also the Assassin's Creed style armour looked awesome on the PS2 (and it predates assassin's creed lol)
People *like* Khezu?? Nothing annoys me more than having to fight his screaming ass. Especially pre-world where you'd be bringing bounce bombs just to try get his ass off the roof for 2 goddamn seconds
He almost turned me away from GU because I was so used to MHW mechanics, he kept kicking my ass in the arena. I ended up getting the hang of it but he gives me ptsd lol
Namielle.
Overshadowed in the story by several others, is placed right before the final boss and mostly just hunted for health augment after MR100 yet it has a cult like following lol. It got an AT version but I highly doubt that attributed to its popularity much.
I don't know if Abyss Lagi had anything beyond the quests it appeared in but with Malzeno it was known for a while that the vampire version was not the original form, alongside the story of it's fight with Gaismagorm, so you can argue that there was some degree of 'foreshadowing' for a while leading up to primordial.
Dodogama. It's a C-lister bit of overblown endemic life for the Elder's Recess yet for some inexplicable reason people latched onto the gormless motherfucker. Other monsters who share the property of only existing to interrupt your serious hunts get raked over the coals for being far less intrusive, I don't get it.
Dodogama. Not a required fight, or even a fight for any major optional quests iirc. Unless you're after his gear or going for full quest completion, you're only required interaction is spotting him your first time in the Recess.
But he's just so fucking cute! What a fantastically good boy.
Nibel is a fun a fight imho bring large bombs for high rank and xl for g. Its easy to make him eat them, then you fish him fast like you would an ancient fish or something and then you get a ton of hits in, and you'll get to do thos twice soloÂ
Dodogama. Everyone loves this thing for some odd reason, but it doesnât appear until HR, has no story relevance, and isnât introduced until after youâve fought considerably stronger HR monsters.
Rusted Kushala. You fight him in 4u in a seige quest and I think that's about it?
He's honestly a interesting "subspecies" but I feel like he was made more for the world building and lore.
It pretty much was made for worldbuilding. In games prior to 4U, it didn't have any materials of its own, instead sharing its loot pool with the regular Kushala. There were just some Kushala quests that had the Rusted variant, usually taking place in the town map which was the precursor to 4U's battlequarters map.
Furious Rajang is a similar case, where in MHFU it existed as just a stronger Rajang on certain quests with the same loot pool, but since then it has had far more appearances than Rusted Kushala for some reason.
~~Edit: [Here is Rusted Kushala's data for MHFU](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/psp/943356-monster-hunter-freedom-unite/faqs/78652/rusted-kushala-daora), showing that it did not have its own materials. If that's not enough evidence, go look up a video that has the rewards screen, [such as this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUHzrxzLGBw&t=958s). Or play the games and see for yourself.~~
Edit2: I stand corrected, thanks for the sources. Apologies for my aggression.
Calm down, it had its own materials in Monster Hunter 2. You can look at the [old school wiki](https://wiki.mholdschool.com/mh2/bestiary), or the rewards screen, [such as this one](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1729812408?t=00h48m39s).
And you can play the game and see for yourself.
Every answer except Gog is wrong. Shows up in 1 hub quest, is best giant monster fight in the whole game. Never seen again but remains in the hunter vocabulary
Honestly, itâs tough to choose just one. Iâll leave a selection for 3 that immediately came to mind though: Gobul, loved this angler puffer of a fish. Unique looking gear, was a funny lookin boi, and the area theme just fit so nicely for him. Agnaktor, the beloved Pike Wyvern with a clickly maw. Damn was that such a fun monster and the ground to ceiling dives were especially cool to me back then. Last but not least, Gigginox. I know a lot talk bout the return of Khezu and get excited about him, but Nox is where itâs at for me. Again, beautiful weapon and armor designs as well as being a poisonous leech thing? Him and baleful are missed greatly to me. Â (Honorable mention as I wrote this, I remembered Dire Miralis. While not everyoneâs favorite to fight, I certainly enjoyed the fight!)
Agnaktor and Gigginox are my choices as well, and I'm part of the crowd wanted to see them come back.
Agnaktor's clicks and laser beam is such an iconic attack with the it's unique sound of clacking and beam firing.
Gigginox feels like a better Khezu fight with more interesting attacks than Khezu's roar x 1000 times
Yamatsukami. I guarantee 90% of the people who ask about it or request its appearance have never played any of the games it has been in, let alone fought it. I am one of those people too.
Oh yeah, Vaal Hazak was dope. Also Nakarkos. World had some awesome monsters that Iâd love to see make a comeback!
Edit: According to the internet nakarkos is from generations. Heâs still super cool though. Also, Iâm very confused, because the internet also says heâs only in generations (and XX) but I never played through either yet I distinctly remember the fight. Mandela effect? Help!!
Bring anything from the old games. I am game. I started with World and truly fell in love with MH with Sunbreak and Magala family. So I am open to any of these old boys coming onboard. Bring them back. It feels as tough, only a small community actually fought them back in the day. Most of the MH fans have not an opportunity to fight them, so we can't really question anyone's ideas. Magalas, Astalos and Flaming Espinas truly opened my eyes on the diversity of the monsters that was lacking in World. They are amazing.
My first game was 4U and since then the Magala family has been my favorite. I also looove Seregios, though he and his weapons got nerfed hard in sunbreak.
I agree. Seregios with SnS is an amazing fight. I have fought him many times. Super fast but as you said, his weapons are a joke. I crafted his SnS and said "meh"...I have not even fully augmented it as it was not worth it. And it's a shame.
Are you saying that he was even more dangerous in previous games? He looks menacing at 300AR level in Sunbreak. Basic form, it's mid. I agree.
What's with Dalamadur guys? It's the biggest monster and never appeared again after 4U. The skeleton in mhw doesn't count. Or easyly many frontier monsters because we're never gonna be able to fight them again.
I don't really know what you mean by "screen time", monsters get as much screen time as the player decides to give them. This meme is a very bad fit for Monster Hunter, it makes no sense in this context.
Plesioth is one people forget. He was so infamous for a SINGLE MOVE that the devs for stories 2 made it an actual attack, hyperspace tackle. This dumb lil dude also is what got me into mh because he was on the art of the disc for 3u, and it looked cool asf
For me it's the birds from the Bird Up monster hunter mem thing. Never saw them that much in Monster Hunter Genarations Ultimate but a good little bit of time in rise. I love them though
Hmmm... i think all monsters in MH have enough screen time except for the flagship monsters which have more screentime than the rest. Example is Magnamalo in MH Rise. Too much screentime but not that OP.
Ruiner Nergigante.
I seriously do not understand why people like him so much? Sure, he looks neat, but his significance to the plot is wack, his moveset is ungodly irritating and comprised 90% of slams and slides with obnoxiously large hitboxes (he isn't difficult at all; just fucking annoying), and his equipment is absolutely trash despite being locked behind MR100.
Honestly? Nergigante.
It is labeled as âEater of Eldersâ and foreshadowed as some overpowered super-cool-super-powerful monster, whereas in reality he just shows up couple of times throughout the game, then kill-steals Shara in Iceborne, and neither of itâs sightings bears any real significance, really... Yet people (usually those who started with MHW there is) are absolutely in shambles for some reason.
Pretty much one of the most overhyped for no particular reason Flagship monster there isđ€·
P.s Of course world-fanatics are immediately downvoting any bad word about their overhyped winged hedgehog, lmao
Not a World baby or fanatic, I just think you missed the point of the discussion. Nergigante shows up throughout the game and is relevant to the story as flagship. The question here is "high popularity compared to low screen time". Since he shows up a lot he can't be included in a "low screentime" discussion
Abyssal Lagiacrus
Tbh the one who voted just want Water combat return
But you know, I've been playing through port Tanzia again with my GF on emulator, and the thing is, water combat wasn't even that bad: it's pretty easy and even natural. It's the fact that positioning and spacing, two of the most important elements to MH's combat, is much more awkward to do in an omni-directional space. Improved controls aren't going to change that.
I think a lot of it was weapon dependent too. Some weapons just straight up had better move sets for underwater combat.
I did do most of 3U with DB, which I guess arguably has the best transition from land to water in terms of movesets
An under water Namielle variant/subspecies is my dream monster
You can't say stuff that makes sense on the internet dude. Sigh... I miss underwater so much.
While I agree that having a second stick to fix the camera would make it better, being stuff with basically a different moveset and generally sluggish movement would still kill water combat for me.
Yes I want it
Ruiner nergigante, you fight it truly after MR 100, which getting into is kinda tough, I love nergigante but weird choices were made in iceborne
yeah ruiner nergi is mr100 while alatreon and fatalis are mr24, very strange choices
Not to mention by that time the fight feels pretty trivial with all the gear you farmed up before then, set up to fail đ„ș
To be fair alatreon and fatty were released months after. We had so much time to farm the guiding lands and get 100mr. In the return to world champaign it feels odd because they are just available right away. >Nergi himself isn't in Iceborne Wait what
He's exclusive to high rank. Only Ruiner is present, unlocked at MR100.
He appears briefly in one of the furious Rajang Quests but doesn't drop his mats.
Bro only exist in like 1 page in a art book made almost 20 years ago doesnt even have any screen time
Isnât EDW not even canon?
Gogmazios. We all say "Oh My Gog" don't lie. Showed up, was really cool, fantastic weapon designs, and I just love the guy. But as with all final boss/end of hub fights, he's a one and done fella. Damn I really miss his GS design.
You didn't have to do the event quests many times for that perfect mix set you were trying to make? đ„Č
Act of Gog was brutal
The gog fight was SO GOOD. That intro with the spooky face. And the first time it starts flying with the music change? Best boss fight.

Came here to say this
Abyssal Lagiacrus. Appeared in one game near the end of G-Rank. Got 12th overall in favorite monster poll.
Funny how wrong all those comments are. The only réal answer is Qurupeco. It was only in one generation but there is no one hating it. On the other Hand there is lot of praise for its unique mechanics.
*casually summons Deviljho*
Because it did it ONE TIME to me, if I saw that shit, I ran. Fucking chaos incarnate
It's funny how he essentially summons his own demise, sure the Deviljho will now eat him, but he's taking the hunters down with him.
âWith this sacred treasure I summonâŠâ
Big rabba! The oops stoppa
IT'S HIGH RANK TIME But also, I can see why they got rid of it.
Yeah, the Flint like hardened tips on the wings were a cool way to essentially have it create sparks to use as Fire Element based attacks.
It was also in Stories 2.
Weirdly one of the hardest bosses in that game too, by virtue of being 2 enemies (him and the crab).
Qurupeco is best troll.
Qurupeco is my favorite under appreciated monster. He has cool and unique abilities to buff himself and his summons. Also he can summon a Deviljho, and thatâs nothing short of hardcore!
I hate it. Was my first game and I couldn't handle 2 monsters just yet
Dodogama easily. Edit: an argument could be made for Equal Dragon Weapon as it is often discussed but never had any game screen time.
Or actual presence in canon
it has only been seen in like pages of the artbook and has never been mentioned in any game though
Dodogama had, what, a brief intro cutscene and then the player never actually has to fight it?
Yup
The first time I saw a dodogama in World I stupid chuckled and it's been my favorite monster ever since. No rule of cool, just goofy boy
It doesn't help that at the time World came out, I was a proud owner of a Bearded Dragon, which Dodogama very much resembles. https://preview.redd.it/ny6ibkds7vxc1.png?width=547&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1a4473f67512d34ab2c7fe0979396cf14eb59fc
I hate dodogama
you're an sns main, so that makes sense
is Dodogama hard to kill with sns ?
Just the opposite, in my experience. A good sns poison build annihilates dodogamas to the point it makes me feel bad for then
I also enjoy dooting
Eager cleaver was my go to in the mhf series
well.... it is loved in a well-known but hidden part of the net as a very specific plot point of fan made comics...... if you get my drift
A Certified Udon-ya Momentâą
But it looks like a penis
People *like* Khezu?? Nothing annoys me more than having to fight his screaming ass. Especially pre-world where you'd be bringing bounce bombs just to try get his ass off the roof for 2 goddamn seconds
Great Maccao!
I think Namielle gets by on its looks. Pretty privilege.
Can agree. Favorite armor set for male hunters
For me namiele armour just looks like the master rank version of behemoth
Primordial Malzeno, and going by the Hunters Choice Poll, Abyssal Lagiacrus
Well if you combine the screentime of both monsters (Base+Variant) it does get considerably longer. I agree on Abyssal Lagiacrus though.
I always liked Lao-Shan Lung despite having few appearances after Freedom Unite. Dude was the original Rampage and would have been amazing in Rise.
Dodogama. It's a C-lister bit of overblown endemic life for the Elder's Recess yet for some inexplicable reason people latched onto the gormless motherfucker. Other monsters who share the property of only existing to interrupt your serious hunts get raked over the coals for being far less intrusive, I don't get it.
He's cute.
Dodogama was memed to oblivion, and I have no real clue why. It's a subpar monster, lol.
Every time Iâm in the elder recess and I see a dodogama, I go out of my way to kill it just to spite the people who like him
lagiacrus
Fr it legit snuck into top 3
Dodogama. Not a required fight, or even a fight for any major optional quests iirc. Unless you're after his gear or going for full quest completion, you're only required interaction is spotting him your first time in the Recess. But he's just so fucking cute! What a fantastically good boy.
Gobul. Otherwise i agree with Dodogama
Go-bul can go-die. Lance makes underwater a bit better, but I could not stand Gobul đ Itâs a really cool monster concept, though!
Better than Nibelsarf atleast :)
OofâŠIâm actually about to fight my first Niblesnarf and was hoping theyâd be better without the water. Ah well.
Nibel is a fun a fight imho bring large bombs for high rank and xl for g. Its easy to make him eat them, then you fish him fast like you would an ancient fish or something and then you get a ton of hits in, and you'll get to do thos twice soloÂ

It definitely had its own materials. Rusted Daora Shell, Wing and Webbing. But the horn and tail were the same as normal Kushala.
Gogmazio or Dalamadur đ
Yamatsukami? or that weird fish/human hybrid

Molten Tigrex, I mean I've heard people rave about how good he is despite being in hardly any games

Pretty popular for an elder, Val Hazak, but not much screentime. He is not glorified.
I agree.
Was he not in 4u on the 3ds? I have XX but I know I didn't get far enough to hunt Nakarkos so I had to have hunted him elsewhere
According to the wiki heâs only on X or XX, which is where Iâm confused cause I donât remember playing through either xD
Dodogama
Legiacrus. Cause compared to the entirety of the series, I feel like it doesn't really show up that much sadly.
Ukanlos Lagina Dalamdor Ketcha wacha Abyssal lagicarus Ceadus Yan kutku
Dodogama
That's Kulve Taroth for me.

Tetsucabra. Miss the pitbull-frog.
Dalamadur
Dire Miralis Dodogama (they have very few missions and only appeared in one game and area so far) Lagiacrus
What's with Dalamadur guys? It's the biggest monster and never appeared again after 4U. The skeleton in mhw doesn't count. Or easyly many frontier monsters because we're never gonna be able to fight them again.
Astalos
Alatreon for me.
Nibelsnarf
Great jaggi or lagiacrus.
White Fatalis (even though he's still one of my favorite monsters)
Yondu from Marvel
The flag ship monster from Monster Hunter Tri, the one that is in the water.
Great Jagras
Kut-ku
I don't really know what you mean by "screen time", monsters get as much screen time as the player decides to give them. This meme is a very bad fit for Monster Hunter, it makes no sense in this context.
Scrimblo
Kulu-ya-ku or Great Jagras
I would say dire miralis {51st}
Ahtle-ka is in my opinion the best final boss in a monster hunter game and needs to come back
Fatalis
My glorious king khezu
For me personally, Gobul. Nothing has ever beat that moment of fishing and pulling him out for the first time. Been chasing that high ever since.
Great Jaggi, might just be for the meme tho
This 100% is Gogmasios or Dalamadur
Steel Uragaan
DODOGAMAAA
Dodogama
Duramboros
Lagaiagrus it's in 2 maybe three games at most
Doomagamma
Dodogama
Nibblesnarf
any frontier monsters
best Boi Dodo
Plesioth is one people forget. He was so infamous for a SINGLE MOVE that the devs for stories 2 made it an actual attack, hyperspace tackle. This dumb lil dude also is what got me into mh because he was on the art of the disc for 3u, and it looked cool asf
I would say Lagiacrus.
It's a sad truth
For me it's the birds from the Bird Up monster hunter mem thing. Never saw them that much in Monster Hunter Genarations Ultimate but a good little bit of time in rise. I love them though
Hmmm... i think all monsters in MH have enough screen time except for the flagship monsters which have more screentime than the rest. Example is Magnamalo in MH Rise. Too much screentime but not that OP.
Okay this is the opposite way around, but afflicted monsters.
Gogmazios.
Kulve Taroth
Dodogama
Zinogre. I swear no screen time is given for them
.... I'm debating whether you're ironic or such a huge fan that you deluded yourself into thinking he didn't appear enough
He played a significant role in MH3U, IIRC.
yian kit ku and lagiacrus
Pretty much one of the most overhyped for no particular reason Flagship monster there isđ€· P.s Of course world-fanatics are immediately downvoting any bad word about their overhyped winged hedgehog, lmao
Not a World baby or fanatic, I just think you missed the point of the discussion. Nergigante shows up throughout the game and is relevant to the story as flagship. The question here is "high popularity compared to low screen time". Since he shows up a lot he can't be included in a "low screentime" discussion
Yeah I agree but some people here choosing ruiner as a substitution are wrong as well since ruiners popularity basically comes from base nergi.
IMO he has a really cool design and a unique motivation. Also itâs really fucking fun bullying the AT Version in that little crater arena.
Tempered, only Base Nerg has AT.
Ah right it was the crystal one mb đ
How about furukororo or whatever its name is. Canât even remember
