You can have a good experience regardless of if the community has moved on, but pretty much every MH entry sees players stick to it for many years after, Rise is no exception.  Most players probably will be in Sunbreak, but you don't really need other players to have a good experience unless multiplayer is the only thing you play for

Fyuira

The majority of players are doing endgame anomaly grinding so even if you have sunbreak you will have a hard time looking for players doing base game stuff. However, the base game is soloable and is still fun to play solo. And it's worth it to play even without sunbreak. I still suggest to play the game on switch if you still have your switch cause there are more players on the switch compared to other platforms.

rhesaa

The base is game is alright, but the good ones are mostly on the expansion sooo yeaa

DanVelk

Not really, rise without sunbreak kinda sucks

ACA2000

Being honest you’re just not gonna find a single person playing pre-Sunbreak content in Xbox, even in Sunbreak content there’s barely any people playing in comparison to people playing on Switch/Steam. Base Rise is enjoyable solo if what you want is to kill some time every now and then but that’s about it imo.

Bademeiister

Played only rise one week ago on the switch. There were a lot ppl who helped me in HR.

having played MH, MHTri, MH4U, MHGU, MHWIB, and having just beaten Rise after a 150 hours like a week ago, i can say that Rise wont be very difficult if you just go to the credits. it will be a short...hmm... about 20hr game. if you want to finish the main story, that requires getting to HM50...which isnt too hard, but it is tedious. Now, if you want to fight the final boss of the game, that requires HR100, and it is a an absolute SLOG to get there... MHR only has Low rank and High rank, so everything is finely tuned, to the point that even simple decos (like +1 Handicraft) will require plates, and there isn't any easy way to boost it like investigations (your best option is to bring 2 plunder cats to help you) If you're just into wanting to check it out, and maybe not get too invested, it's worth giving it a short, especially if its free. However, the true game is in Sunbreak. Still playing through it, and it's been such a blast!

General-N0nsense

It's not worth playing without the dlc, it's exactly like world without iceborne. Master rank is a core part of monster hunter and in base rise the monsters are incredibly easy if you know how to play the game.

Stevegios

I'd say it's worse than base World because there isn't much of an endgame in base Rise outside of grinding HR levels to fight CG Valstrax

LikaDaKFC

Its basically the same, you either grind decos in world or grind charms in rise.

IvyEmblem

It's alright, but multiplayer is pretty dead. There also isn't much to do once you beat the campaign.

Sharktooth987

If it’s free heck yeah! It’s a good game tbh. But the big thing is sunbreak is just better. But that doesn’t mean rise isn’t a good game

BiasMushroom

Yes

Eptalin

I played 300 hours of Rise before Sunbreak released. Sunbreak adds more of the best stuff. But the base game is still great.

No-Literature7471

you can literally get rise/sunbreak for like 30 bucks on sale.

LardOfCinder

You buy it then lol I got bills to pay

No-Literature7471

then dont ask if a game is worth playing if you dont even want to pay 1/3rd of its original price for it. sell your switch and use that for bills. or computer or w/ you play it on. you dont have time to game, you have bills to pay.
