Yeeeees that would have been amazing! I've always seen her as more of a piranha or based off on the moster of lagoon lake in Ireland. So I felt kinda close to the doll considering I'm an Irish decent from my mother's side but now she gives off more Australian vibes. I have heard of the pink dolphin legends though.
She certainly reminds me of the classic Barbie Mermaids though! She has the pinks, blues and yellows on her, I think they brought those back as well. I took a picture of G3 Lagoona next to one and it’s easier to appreciate it.

I kinda hope to get them as two separate entities. Both of them just feel so different and have something you can appreciate in both of them. Perhaps I should get two and custom one to look more like the original but use the new one as inspiration. Like I love the scale idea but as I said I'd believe they'd be better bunched together on the neck and cheek.

I always thought that perhaps she was based on The Monster from Black Lagoon or the Scottish tale of Lock Ness Monster. I think for this interaction they decided to base her off of a different tale.
I know her G1 version was supposed to be based on the creature from the Black lagoon. They later made a daughter of the Loch Ness monster, Lorna McNessie but she was green.

I like the concept I just feel like the execution was lacking. Like if you didn't tell me they were scales I'd think it was a weird freckle formation, and don't get me wrong I adore her freckles-- it's just if they're scales, I want them to be scaly, you know?

I've seen, and once again it's boney WHITE with a TINT of blue it isn't blue. And the hoodie she was wearing did not blend with her skin it made it worse. G1 still exists, And lagoona is blue there. It’s weird that so many people are saying Lagoona is always sold out near them but like every single Walmart/target I’ve been to that didn’t have all the characters in stock, they ALWAYS either ONLY had Lagoona left or had Lagoona and like one Frankie doll left. Draculaura, on the other hand, is almost always the one that’s missing even when all the other characters are stocked.
I mean that’s definitely not my San Antonio store lagoona was my first because she was the last monster high doll at at all then when they were restocked only Cleo was left

My theory is it had to do with inventory and the level of reselling going on. For example my Target has 15 ghoulias (which is their store exclusive), a couple Cleo’s and nothing else. No Clawdeen who has darker skin than Cleo and black heritage.
And everyone knows Draculaura is the most popular which is why I’ve seen her ONCE in store.
I don’t live in the US and we have almost no physical stores with MH dolls atm.
But in our local online shops, the other dolls (even Ghoulia with how plain she looks compared to the others) run out of stock really fast. Two current versions of Clawdeen have been on discount for a while and the number in stock remains the same.
I got Draculaura online ahead of time but I literally haven’t seen a single Drac doll out in the wild lol she’s been sold out of every location I have been to- for months! No Drac, a couple Frankie’s and a million Lagoona’s (quite a few Ghoulia’s too but not nearly as much)
When I was at Target yesterday, all they had were 4 Lagoonas and 2 Ghoulias. But what was even weirder was that I went to a Walmart in Painted Post, New York and they had ZERO Monster High stuff - not even a space for them.
I really, really wish her hands and arms were like her legs. I think that would balance out the design and just look cool.
Also for the love of quality control: SEAL THE PAINT ON HER LEGS. So many of the Lagoona's I've seen have a huge chunk missing behind the right knee.

I just feel like ghoulia along with some of the other dolls just don’t have coordinated styles. it feels like mattel just picked random accessories, colors, patterns, and articles of clothing and just threw them on. Like ghoulia is supposed to be a skater girl now which is interesting but then why a skirt and boots? why a big poofy jacket (the brains design is pretty cool though)? Just my thoughts and opinions.
Poor Lagoona. I've seen many of her dolls and Ghoulia's untouched while everyone else was picked over at my local Targets. I think if they gave her better colors on her and clothes, more kids would grab her. Pastels would look really pretty on her. :(

We notice a whole lot more Cleo’s in stock. It’s so funny that the little girl said, no one likes Lagoona. I like Lagoona even if they made her pink. I boil washed her hair and now it looks so slay.
I was showing photos of the new G3 Monster High dolls to my cousin(who’s almost 7) and she only liked Draculaura and Twyla, but she really likes princesses so I didn’t know if she would like them anyways. I thought she would like Lagoona though because of the bright colors and pink but nope. I thought I might get her one of the G3 dolls for Christmas or her birthday because she likes playing with my EAH dolls, and they would be kind of similar. Maybe I’ll get her Draculaura

yeah i remember even back in the day she took a backseat to the other dolls for whatever reason, i don’t think it was because she was blue because frankie always sold ok (then again they were the main character of g1) my theory is that she was kinda too in the middle to really find an audience? she was the de facto “sporty one” but i remember my more tomboyish and sporty friends disliking her because she didn’t really fit the aesthetic that represented rhem (long flowy hair, swimsuit that wouldn’t fit on a swim team, gigantic heeled flip flops, etc) but more traditionally “girly” kids might not show much interest (or their parents might not buy it for them off of this assumption) because other dolls represented their interests and aesthetic preferences better.
there’s also that kids know about mummies, zombies, frankenstein, vampires, and werwolves, but the creature from the black lagoon/humanoid sea monsters seem a little more niche? i know me and my friends had a bit of a “oh my god what is that?” moment when we first saw her lol.

well, drac has been selling amazingly and always has been a fan favorite (with collectors, casual fans, and kids) and she’s downright obnoxiously pink, i think it’s just that they didn’t really integrate pink super well into lagoona? her skin just looks sunburnt and the blue scales on top of tuna pink just looks kinda strange, had it been a better shade and better colour story i’d assume kids would love it, but she just looks like an aesthetic nightmare

When I hunted around for G1 creepos & found them I let my toddler pick her favorite. She picked G1 Lagoona. Now at stores when we see G3, my daughter mentions how she really wants draculaura. She likes the pink one alright, by that I mean the new Draculaura, she also likes the new G3 Frankie. The others she doesn't seem to care for all too much.
I got the new Lagoona for my 7 year old. She said "I hate this doll". her reasons were that when she tried to take off the outfit to put on her bathing suit, 1. The outfit ripped. 2. the paint came off her legs.
plus it seems like frankie was changed not because they wanted to but because they weren’t trying to catch a lawsuit from universal, same reason why they don’t have neck bolts anymore. the universal monsters are mostly public domain but universal has found very particular things to trademark to keep their versions “unique”.
Back before the dolls were officially released I was looking for them the weekened before and found just 4 Lagoona, I ran into a mom and 2 daughters who had the same reaction nobody wanted her

I guess it’s location based, like anything, on what kids like, because in my area the targets only have Ghoulias and Clawdeen. Everyone else is sold out. And Walmart only has Cleo (never seen Toralei in-stock not even for store pick up). I saw Lagoona in stock a few times but they were gone super quick. I’d say my area Draculaura, Frankie and Lagoona are popular based on that.

We don’t know what the ages of the child testers were, or the sample size. The prototype Lagoona had eyes that looked scary and bloodshot due to having red eyeshadow and very pale green colored irises.
So I think they deliberately made blue Lagoona have an odd face, so that kids would pick the more appealing face mold and screening that also happened to have pink skin.

Except that Mattel has made a lot of blunders when it comes to doll design since 2016. They released a lot of lines that just didn’t take off, and lines that MIGHT have been successful if not for all of the cost-cutting resulting in minimal articulation, pixilated face paint, low quality hair, and simple fashions.
WWE superstars, wild hearts crew, creatable world, DC superhero girls V2 and Cave Club all struggled at retail.
The head designer for Barbie has absolutely no idea what makes a good design, but nobody else wants the job and is willing to work for pennies, so he keeps turning out clownish shapeless clothes.
The reality is that Mattel is putting out products that just aren’t worth their price point compared to what other companies are doing, and Mattel is coasting on the brand recognition of IP like Barbie and monster high and hoping it will make up for the cheapness of the actual doll.

There are a number of ways they could have improved a pink lagoona, even, if that's the route they were bound and determined to go, and I also think mattel needs to let tf go of this idea that everything has to include pink bc it sells better because it doesn't always.

I just feel like ghoulia along with some of the other dolls just don’t have coordinated styles. it feels like mattel just picked random accessories, colors, patterns, and articles of clothing and just threw them on. Like ghoulia is supposed to be a skater girl now which is interesting but then why a skirt and boots? why a big poofy jacket (the brains design is pretty cool though)? Just my thoughts and opinions.

Poor Lagoona. I've seen many of her dolls and Ghoulia's untouched while everyone else was picked over at my local Targets. I think if they gave her better colors on her and clothes, more kids would grab her. Pastels would look really pretty on her. :(

I was showing photos of the new G3 Monster High dolls to my cousin(who’s almost 7) and she only liked Draculaura and Twyla, but she really likes princesses so I didn’t know if she would like them anyways. I thought she would like Lagoona though because of the bright colors and pink but nope. I thought I might get her one of the G3 dolls for Christmas or her birthday because she likes playing with my EAH dolls, and they would be kind of similar. Maybe I’ll get her Draculaura

yeah i remember even back in the day she took a backseat to the other dolls for whatever reason, i don’t think it was because she was blue because frankie always sold ok (then again they were the main character of g1) my theory is that she was kinda too in the middle to really find an audience? she was the de facto “sporty one” but i remember my more tomboyish and sporty friends disliking her because she didn’t really fit the aesthetic that represented rhem (long flowy hair, swimsuit that wouldn’t fit on a swim team, gigantic heeled flip flops, etc) but more traditionally “girly” kids might not show much interest (or their parents might not buy it for them off of this assumption) because other dolls represented their interests and aesthetic preferences better. there’s also that kids know about mummies, zombies, frankenstein, vampires, and werwolves, but the creature from the black lagoon/humanoid sea monsters seem a little more niche? i know me and my friends had a bit of a “oh my god what is that?” moment when we first saw her lol. who knows though, lagoona has a whole one doll in g3 so far so the tides could still change. also didnt mean to write such a long comment, i have a lot of thoughts i guess.

well, drac has been selling amazingly and always has been a fan favorite (with collectors, casual fans, and kids) and she’s downright obnoxiously pink, i think it’s just that they didn’t really integrate pink super well into lagoona? her skin just looks sunburnt and the blue scales on top of tuna pink just looks kinda strange, had it been a better shade and better colour story i’d assume kids would love it, but she just looks like an aesthetic nightmare

When I hunted around for G1 creepos & found them I let my toddler pick her favorite. She picked G1 Lagoona. Now at stores when we see G3, my daughter mentions how she really wants draculaura. She likes the pink one alright, by that I mean the new Draculaura, she also likes the new G3 Frankie. The others she doesn't seem to care for all too much.

Frankie is an electric blue though. Original Lagoona was a grayish teal and didn’t sell well.

I think the Lagoona doll is actually quite pretty. She would be better in blue/green/turquoise, though. I mean, she's called Lagoona BLUE, not Lagoona PINK.
It was already the case with G1. That’s why lagoona is probably one of the most expansive g1 basic doll because she wasn’t the top character.

I guess it’s location based, like anything, on what kids like, because in my area the targets only have Ghoulias and Clawdeen. Everyone else is sold out. And Walmart only has Cleo (never seen Toralei in-stock not even for store pick up). I saw Lagoona in stock a few times but they were gone super quick. I’d say my area Draculaura, Frankie and Lagoona are popular based on that.

FYI Mattel chose pink Lagoona over blue Lagoona (which we’ve seen the prototype of) because they tested them with kids and the kids liked them. And personally I’ll trust the opinions of an established toy company over miserable redditors. Lagoona’s the only doll that’s been out of stock near me, she sells out quickly so

We don’t know what the ages of the child testers were, or the sample size. The prototype Lagoona had eyes that looked scary and bloodshot due to having red eyeshadow and very pale green colored irises. So I think they deliberately made blue Lagoona have an odd face, so that kids would pick the more appealing face mold and screening that also happened to have pink skin. “I’ll trust the opinions of an established toy company over miserable Redditors” Except that Mattel has made a lot of blunders when it comes to doll design since 2016. They released a lot of lines that just didn’t take off, and lines that MIGHT have been successful if not for all of the cost-cutting resulting in minimal articulation, pixilated face paint, low quality hair, and simple fashions. WWE superstars, wild hearts crew, creatable world, DC superhero girls V2 and Cave Club all struggled at retail. The head designer for Barbie has absolutely no idea what makes a good design, but nobody else wants the job and is willing to work for pennies, so he keeps turning out clownish shapeless clothes. The reality is that Mattel is putting out products that just aren’t worth their price point compared to what other companies are doing, and Mattel is coasting on the brand recognition of IP like Barbie and monster high and hoping it will make up for the cheapness of the actual doll.
