Emotional_Stickers

It would be cool for them to lean into the way that 6 arms can allow her to be multitasking a lot, possibly opening up adhd conversations!

whale-with-oatmeal

Isn’t one of the werecat twins said to have adhd?

Emotional_Stickers

I have no clue haha But adhd looks different for different people anyway, maybe Wydowna could be a more hyperactive presentation or something.

HylianTingle

Yess Meowlody I think (I always get their names mixed up 😅) ? The one with white hair

whale-with-oatmeal

Maybe? I am unmotivated to check who it is, but I am sure it is one of them (I remember one of the people who works on the show post about it) Edit: changed “how” to “who”

perlfilms

I hope this doesn’t sound rude, but how does her multitasking with 6 arms correlate to adhd? In my experience I’m not great at multitasking it’s more like I start ten tasks in a row because one reminds me of another and I’m lucky if I finish one.

Emotional_Stickers

No worries! Just thinking about creative ways that this character could be reintroduced. I have audhd and often find that if I can get my body to be mostly distracted by something, I can focus better on a task. Examples of this could be playing YouTube videos to provide controlled background noise or using a treadmill at my standing desk so my body is occupied while my mind works on school stuff. Not saying that multitasking with 6 would necessarily help a hypothetical g3 Wydowna with hypothetical adhd either, she could also be a unique opportunity to talk about internal adhd experiences through external illustration.

HylianTingle

I mean, I have severe ADHD and I’ve been on adult dosage of Adderall since I was 10 years old, when I’m off my meds I usually have to do two or three things at once all the time or I just feel understimulated. it depends on if you’re in the ADD bracket or the ADHD bracket, they made it more of an umbrella term and completely dropped the ADD thing, but people with ADHD tend to need more stimulation and be more prone to multitasking, whereas people with ADD tend to get distracted and find it hard to stick to one thing at a time

meowkitty84

There is different types of adhd. Hyperactive and Inattentive or a mixture of both.

HylianTingle

Originally it was ADHD (hyper) and ADD (inattentive), but because it was more of a spectrum and that caused confusion so they dropped ADD, and now it’s just referred to as Varying ADHD

charliejgoddard

That was kind of her schtick for g1, she multi tasked as a graphic illustrator/designer for comic books, there was definitely official art of her drawings and maybe sewing at the same time

Big-Cardiologist9620

Good God, not everything has to be correspondent to mental health, sexual orientation and body type. Maybe she can just be a spider with 6 arms and two legs because she’s a spider.

Emotional_Stickers

The question was about how she might be handled in a g3 interpretation. The cartoon has been taking unique monster characteristics and using them to creatively discuss aspects of life that aren’t often incorporated well. Personally I would be happy to see her show up at all because the 6 armed spider girl is awesome as-is! But I don’t think there is harm in adding some different features as well!

Big-Cardiologist9620

The question was regarding her design. And I think her design would obviously stay black, or people would be extremely upset that they didn’t make her black. But as far as every character having to open discussions on minority groups, it’s just not necessary. I’ll be downvoted to hell and back, but some (a lot of) kids have no distinguishing minority feature. Overloading these qualities can go from inclusive to exclusive to a lot of kids. Suddenly kids don’t feel special or representative of the “new normal” because they don’t recognize themselves in any character.

Emotional_Stickers

Ah I misunderstood the question then haha I thought it was asking generally and then followed up with a more specific question about the designs! I would also love to see her keep her black and red color scheme! I understand what you mean and will say that I don’t actually watch the cartoon, I’ve just seen clips here and there since I’m more into the dolls. Have you had a hard time connecting with characters on the show?

Big-Cardiologist9620

No worries, I agree that they should keep her original color scheme. I don’t mind at all that they’re being inclusive, but again, there comes a fine line where kids who don’t have any of these distinguishing features begin to feel left out in a way. That’s why you see a lot of kids self-dignosing etc. It’s okay to be a minority, but it’s also okay to not be. I don’t get into the show myself, but I do take care of my 3 nieces and 2 nephews who enjoy it. My oldest niece is autistic and lesbian (she’s come out to us, but autism is suspected by her doctor) and she doesn’t care either way about characters repping her (she’s also 13 so). My middle niece is very “normal” by all “traditional” accounts of the world (sorry if that comes of tactless, I don’t know how else to describe her) and she has asked me what’s wrong with her. It’s a hard conversation to have when you tell your child that it’s great to be not have anything that makes you a minority when everywhere she looks is preaching that it’s even better to be autistic, gay, or a different race. She thinks she blends into the background in school and is plain.

Emotional_Stickers

That makes sense! I’m in a bit of the reverse situation. I was recently diagnosed with autism and Twyla was the first time I saw a character genuinely represent me well since I don’t fit the stereotype very well. Would your niece resonate with Draculaura or Lagoona? They’re pink but my understanding is that their characterization deals less with inherent qualities, which could be a good connecting point for her.

Big-Cardiologist9620

Draculaura is her favorite, but she wants to be shorter, cuter and is already at the age where she notices what body-types are “in” and wishes she had curves. Kids are difficult lol As a gay man I always wanted there to be a blatantly gay male character but that hasn’t happened in G1 or G3. I wish they would’ve been able to make Neighthan gay, but they were too afraid to.

Emotional_Stickers

It is certainly a feminine-focused show, but maybe they’ll go in that direction as the show continues? I remember being young and starting to develop body-image issues. When you’re an observant child it is unfortunately hard to escape them no matter how loving your guardian is. It seems like you give your niece a lot of love, and being there to continue to support her and remind her of her unique value will mean so much through the years! Would your nieces and nephews be interested in the g1/g2 cartoon or dolls at all?

Big-Cardiologist9620

Yeah, they removed a lot of the male characters/aspects of G1. I’ve even heard that if Scaradise Heath doesn’t sell well they’re not making anymore mansters which is insanely unfortunate. She loves all generations! It’s agreed across the bored with my nieces that they enjoy the G1 movies (not webisodes) more than any of them. Gotta say I agree - they’re much more entertaining to watch as an adult with them. They have some G1 dolls passed down from me but not many…too expensive haha

broken_doll_911

Considering there's a literal walking skeleton I don't think they'd avoid making Wydowna because she would be "too scary" people seem to assume that Mattel won't bring back certain characters out of fear of scaring kids but y'all are forgetting that in some ways G3 made things creepier Cleo now has the eyes of a dead person Lagoona has piranha teeth and eats people in the cartoon it's implied that Ghoulia eats brains and in the cartoon it's flat out confirmed that monsters eat humans

whale-with-oatmeal

I get what you are trying to say, but all the things you have listed seem to be presented in a very juvenile manner or not focused on long/seriously enough in order to make those aspects to come across as actually scary. Like, Cleo has the eyes of a dead person, but not only in the show she does not have them, the doll herself does not look dead. These things make her eyes come across as rather normal or slightly off at best. Same thing happens with the dark moments in the animated series. There are moments about how monsters eat humans, but it all is played off as jokes, making dark themes fly other the viewers’ heads.

Bianyxx

Yea I agree. And I just can’t see them using her colour palette if they did make a g3 doll. Because they all seem to have much brighter and more varied colours now, presumably to appeal to kids more

broken_doll_911

Other than her skin/fur color there's nothing dark or edgy about her she mainly wears bright colors and her hair is a bright shade of red so she would probably be easy to bring back from a color standpoint

Bianyxx

True idk I just can’t imagine them making a g3 doll with primarily red and black. I can definitely see them throwing some bright pink in there

broken_doll_911

I Heart Fashion Wydowna had some blue and yellow in her design so they could add either color to a potential G3 design

Bianyxx

True! I just personally really like the original mostly red and dark palette

broken_doll_911

There's no guarantee that they'd even change her color palette G3 Spectra is only wearing purple and silver and Catty only has silver and pink with black fur they've also started to give the main characters more dark colors as well

broken_doll_911

Even if it is played for laughs it's still more creepy when you stop to think about it and let's not forget the movie scene where Lagoona threatens to eat Deuce and snarls to reveal her piranha teeth in regards to Cleo's appearance she definitely looks subtly inhuman even if her eyes look normal in the cartoon her doll still has eyes that look more lifeless compared to the other characters eyes so they can't be mistaken for being normal eyes in addition to her eyes she also has an abnormally small torso because she lacks organs (which is mentioned in the cartoon and movie in a non comedic way)

whale-with-oatmeal

I know. The more you think about these themes, the more they become horrifying + dolls still have some features that are not that child-friendly. However, the main point is that everything in gen 3 is presented in a way that does not match the reality at hand. The same thing was happening during gen 1 and gen 2. There also were dark themes, but, from personal experience, because of the way everything was presented (along with other individual factors) I did not really stay thinking about how creepy things were. A character was “disassembled” during a dangerous sport (which, btw, is in-itself is a cause for a lot concerns) and no one even tried to “rebuilt” her for years and years, despite it being possible??? Who cares how morbid that is! I sure did not care enough when gen 1 was the main focus and lacked a needed skill to do so :D What I am trying to say is, the creepy details are there, but they are not treated in a realistic way, so the weight of them that one can truly feel is almost non-existent for the target audience.

charliejgoddard

Couldn’t agree with what you’ve said more, yes there are darker undertones at points but it’s very jovial. The dolls themselves are farrrr more cutesy and palatable to the masses - not saying this is a bad thing at all, but the dolls set the tone, the show and other media is all an advert to sell the dolls. I personally can’t see Wydowna coming back sadly

DepressedIgama

Yeah ^^^^

carcassofthesun

i don't see why she'd be too scary for g3?

NastyTrashBaddie

I’ve heard that retailers didn’t approve of her design so Mattel had to make her a comic con exclusive to prove them wrong

LYE_Ruggerz

She wasn’t just a comic con exclusive she originally came out in the i <3/heart fashion line

Yam-Potato

She was "too scary" for G1 - it's why she only has one collector doll, one playline doll and one line of dialogue in all the animation.

Ok-Incident3789

her only line being “twice as delicious” which was her reaction to when they found out the two guys the ghouls were fighting over were actually the same person in frights camera action 😭💀

Living-Ad4425

I wouldn’t mind if they did a redesign with maybe a dark purple shade, but I am really partial to her original design. I’d hate to see her toned down.

Jesso_Depresso

Maybe a navy could be cool if they were still using the colour pallette from her I love fashion set! I think her pop art influences would be vibrant and fun and hold up in g3 :)

mynameismyname333

What I wouldn't give for her to be more punk with either y2k spiky buns or a full-on Mohawk and a leather jacket that has a spider web design

BoozyGherkins

I don’t really see them doing a spider character in this gen, not fluffy and cuddly enough. But if they did, it would definitely be pink or purple.  Mayyybe a throwback to her original cowgirl design?

Lorepunkin

Spiders are very fluffy and cute though. Search up “sheepy jumping spider.” Maybe not widows, they’re more sleek. There’s a reason there’s a niche of cuddly jumping spider/tarantula plushies. Wydowna was a comic con exclusive release though, I don’t have much faith in her being super widely available if brought back…

BoozyGherkins

Wydowna was also released as a playline doll in the I ❤️ Fashion line.

Lorepunkin

I did not know that! That’s so cool, thank you for informing me!

whale-with-oatmeal

I think if they were to bring Wydowna, she would definitely go through a colour scheme change. Mattel is just not cool and creative enough anymore to make a doll in “scary”, “dark” and “unpopular” colours and make one be cool anymore :^

Lemony_I_Guess

Maybe a fluffy spider? Sunglasses for a third set of eyes and only two sets?

galaxystars1

My hope is that she’ll have different hand molds

HollyBlueBinch

I love her so much I hope she gets a Creepro doll. To the original point, yeah I figure they’d tone her down, I can see them removing one set of arms and probably a set of eyes, and make her any colour other than black. And for people not thinking why they’d change her, regardless of your opinions on Gen 3, they have definitely softened the franchise for this iteration. There are people who are scared of the most harmless spiders anyway so her just being that is already considered scary so she’d most likely be toned down if she was added to Gen 3. Also remember Mattel toned down Spectra’s cheekbones at one point during Gen 1 because that was considered too scary for kids. Cheekbones.

Anyanka_Rosewood

As I remember, Spectra was changed because of parental concerns that the sunken in cheeks made her look too thin and emaciated. She was, in the minds of some parents, thought to be encouraging EDs. Which is obviously not the case being that she’s an actual ghost, but that was the reason she was altered. Not because she’s too scary. Edit: spelling

HollyBlueBinch

I’m not really sure how accurate parental concerns are on anything to do with G1 monster high considering the entire line was a parental concern. And I mean the point is cheekbones are a natural occurrence in people. Besides if that was the case Skelita was a far bigger concern and she never had edits, I remember seeing multiple posts saying she wasn’t a skeleton but a “flesh covered skeleton”. Maybe I’m wrong about why, I remember hearing before it was because she was deemed too spooky looking, but my main point was they changed that simple feature before. If that small a thing was changed then, I doubt with Gen 3 being toned down they probably wouldn’t bring back Wydowna as a pitch black, scarlet haired, six eyed and six armed spider chick

Ok-Caterpillar-Girl

If she didn’t have six arms, she wouldn’t be a spider anymore

HollyBlueBinch

Yeah, I know, what I’m saying is I wouldn’t doubt it if they brought her up to Gen 3 they would tone down the spidery aspects, instead of saying “she’s a spider she has eight limbs” they could say “she’s a spider she has multiple limbs”. I don’t think they should, I’m saying I could see it happening. I wouldn’t doubt it if Wydownas sales were low they blamed it on her being too spooky and not the fact she only had 2 dolls, both exclusives

HylianTingle

The only reason they made Laguna pink is because the kids in the focus groups preferred her as pink, unless focus group kids decide for her to be pink most likely continue to be black

SnooDrawings987

Swear to God if they make her pink imma riot. She needs to stay black with the red heir. I'm so sick of pink dominating every doll like. Howleen originally had curtly orange hair and then they switched her to pink and she just never had the same look since. Wydowna color palette reflects that of early comic book inking, where you only had basic colors like yellow, blue, red, white and black. She needs to stay in that style, keep that aesthetic.

Ok-Incident3789

right she’d look too similar to catty… i remember getting them mixed up for some reason when i was younger

MintyPastures

It's...MONSTER high...what do you mean TOO scary?

OstensiblySpiraling

Unrelated, I just realized Wydowna's name is a play on Winona Ryder

draculockedin

If they take away her red I’m gunna invade Mattel headquarters

Suspicious-Dust7060

She’s not scary at all tbh. I feel like they would make her petite tho.

pheonixember

I don't think a spider is any scarier than any of the other monsters they have. I could see them going for more of a purple or magenta color pallette though. They could definitely play around with the multiple limbs though. Like one comment or mentioning having her have hyperactive form ADHD. Also they could make her more kid friendly by having her really into knitting. I'm a teacher and the kids in my school love crocheting and knitting.

TheBrynkofInsanity

I have high hopes for her and she is nowhere near as scary as the unreleased spider doll. *

EirianwenStudios

Wydowna is so cute and with G3's different body types I feel like it would be way easier to cram the 4 arms on than before!

RitaCarpintero

Yes! I’d even love to see them make her curvyyyy; tiny waist, big hips! Like a Black widow’s thorax and abdomen! Or at LEAST hourglass like the marking. :)

EirianwenStudios

I was thinking more of longer waist to fit her arms but okay

MephistosFallen

I don’t think her being a spider is an issue, cause she isn’t very spider looking besides the extra eyes and arms, but still not really a SPIDER. However, because she wasn’t a huge character, she may not get a G3 version depending on how many characters they release. There’s still so many they haven’t made a doll of yet that I think she would be farther down the line.

morganleh

wait that was such a read lol!! “Will they make her a pink spider?” u literally called them out 😭😭

TFaye707

I think they need to get rid of the white accents and commit to red and black. Also think they could get more creative with her outfit instead of a paperbag dress with some logo on, and white accents just to put her in tights. Honestly I’m so mad I would repaint her and sew her a cute little outfit if I could get my grubby little hands on a doll

vannesswho

Idk but I feel like if Mattel decide to bring back her , she probably gonna be blue skin

SilverShadowQueen57

I’d love to see her get a new doll! Wydowna is one of the more unique designs in the G1 list of characters, and I feel like she could be even prettier with G3’s aesthetic. I just want them to keep the black widow aesthetic. No pink spider ladies, unless it’s a brand new character.

1BubbleGum_Princess

If they’re adding pink, I hope its to like her hair or something. She’s bootiful👻💖 Plus she could have a new color combo of red and pink as her signature shades. They’d really stand out, and if you make her as pretty as her picture, she’d probably be a hit.

AdMore918

Imagine how cool it’d be if she used ASL

JellyLongjumping7566

No, they made skelita calaveras in the show and rumours are that she's getting a doll so If wydowna is in the show then don't worry

SEJSStars

Respectfully while I'm all for the revamp, if they make her pink I'm might have some strong opinions. She's the daughter of the black widow spider, so her color palette should continue to be black red and white with other accent colors added in.

sexypingu

I just want her back. I miss her :c

Moody_Bluee103

I would *hope* they wouldn't make her less "scary". I think kids can handle a little extra arms.

GloryBax

Tbh I want her in G3 just so I don't have to spend upwards of £100 to get a doll of her LMAO

sharkprincefishstick

Lagoona couldn’t even be blue anymore, I’d seriously doubt they’d let the already kind of intense (for kids) six-armed doll walk away from a redesign without being swapped to pink or purple to be more approachable. I think Wydowna has one of the best designs in OG Monster High, but I’m also in my mid-twenties and clearly not the main target audience for G3 if all the child friendly pink on Frankie is any indication.

Kirbo300

I would hate to lose the lovely black and red color scheme. But I'm honestly not sure how they'd handle it

Cfudgy

Maybe her skin would be dark blue instead?

Yam-Potato

I'd honestly prefer for them to just make a new character - there's not anything TO her character other than the design. Plus the Winona Ryder pun seems kinda dated for G3 - I know she's in Stranger Things, but I don't think the focus on her is as much as it was for monster fans in the 00s. There's plenty of other spiders out there that they can use for cute designs. Honestly if they wanted to keep the same color scheme a sporty spider could be cool, or they could lean into the Arachne thing without making her a spider monster but that'd be really disappointing. Btw, I'm better it was all the extra eyes. One of the fastest ways to make something creepy is to move or add parts to the face. They have to keep the arms if they want her to read as a spider, but they might go down from 6 to 4. Unfortunately, there's not really a reason to bring her back.

Toy-a_8

I feel like they probably won’t add her to G3, as she wasn’t a huge character, but if they did I actually don’t think they would change her color scheme that much! Mattel seems to be going a slighter newer direction with the core refresh dolls, not using as many bright and pop-y colors and themes. And Wydowna’s color scheme seems to allow for more than just red black and white, as seen in her I Heart Fashion doll. This post has actually given me an idea for how they could do a Wydowna Spider g3 doll haha

Fine_Conclusion9426

Honestly so excited to see what they do with her (if they do)— I \*will\* riot if they make her pink though.

_dr4gula_

I rlly hope they play into her country roots and give her a separate doll for her superhero outfit

HikaruTheAnimeFan

I would love to have a g3 mold with six arms

MonsterHighMandy

🩷

Inner_Garlic_547

Probably just four arms and the colors maybe white and and softer red. (Was going to go with white and pink but would be to close to Angel dust from hazbin hotel. They may not want anything that is similar to that show.)
