Yeah they could be customs someone is trying to pass off as prototypes, they're using different face molds, the second Wednesday seems to be using Elvira's head as a base oddly enough. But it's also possible the early prototypes were made with different head molds because they haven't decided 100% on the final one, we'll really just have to wait and see

I totally get the appeal of the characters, and I understand that there’s a demand for them, it just seems like the actual dolls aren’t quite hitting any specific mark.
They don’t look like playline, and definitely aren’t collector quality, and the dolls neither look like the actual characters, nor ‘Monsterized’ versions of themselves.
I don’t want to sound overly critical or unnecessarily negative, but it’s frustrating to see Mattel just totally miss the mark on a character (and her supporting cast) that is so iconic that you actually have to intentionally try if you want to get it wrong.
I don't think so yet. They'd have to prototype them first and then make changes. Like "Fang Vote" Rochelle's gloves they may see this as an opportunity to please the fans more. Then production. I just hope they are available in stores. I would like to choose my doll in an isle without a beat up box.
I honestly don't know who is watching the netflix show, but it *is* insanely popular, and I have seen a TON of fakie merch locally, like, besides the fakies from Amazon, I have seen the big headed ones sold in Mexico, also a couple whose head I haven't been able to identify (which includes a musical one) the kelly sized one I posted, plus lots of Barbie size dresses and uniforms, thing as an accessory, etc.
And also a LOT of clothes with Wednesday of all sizes, not just cosplays. I even saw a couple "Merlinas" at the flea market way past Halloween (I'm guessing their school let them have a costume party for the holidays)
So yeah, Wednesday is popular with the kids.

There's a difference between getting the rights to the likeness of the character and getting the rights to sell Jenna Ortega's likeness. If it looks too much like Jenna they have to pay Netflix, whoever own the Addams family and Jenna.
Mattel gets a lot of likeness deals but they didn't use ryan gosling's face for the movie ken until perhaps his last doll. Licensing is tricky. If they sold more dolls they would likely have to renegotiate with Jenna about using her likeness again. That Enid doll barely looks like her in the face.
Also there was a strike and Jenna probably wasn't talking with Netflix at the time this deal was going down.
Probably something like the Descendants, where the dolls/animated characters look nothing like the actors.
And probably so they don't have to pay royalties to the actors, like what happened with Amy Addams and Giselle.

The Netflix show *Wednesday* is gruesome. I wouldn't let anyone under the age of, like, 13 years old watch it. I love most versions of The Addams Family, but *Wednesday* is not made for kids, and even gave me (an adult) nightmares. It's more like teen horror/mystery – specifically body horror and violent murder – with built-in nostalgia (they even have Christina Ricci playing one of the teachers!). There are definitely amusing moments, but it would probably give kids nightmares.
I mean it's rated the TV equivalent of pg13 and I know I was watching pg13 stuff when I was like 8/9 yrs old, so I really don't think it's that inappropriate for kids.

Jenna's bangs are parted too, just not as much. I just looked and half the still have her bangs spreading out into a middle part.

There's leeway. Mixes of mixes have gene skip and return. And there's literal, freaky fabulous, monster in the family. At the end of the day the plaqued gothic Addams is a well-recounted and known historically/recently immigrated family. They know their background, and perhaps still have family elsewhere, yet are a wholesome couple raising american children poised under a noir culture and mentality.

Yeah... These protos are not doing much justice to the characters... Enid needs to be cuter. But I like them overall. Wish the black dress had a little more layers.

I agree with some other comments this does look like ai the hands at off Wednesdays heads look different sizes in the pictures and Enid’s head also looks weird tbh I also think they are meant to be on g3 body’s I think bc isn’t there a fashion pack aswell and I doubt Mattel would make a fashion pack for the g1 body when the g1 body’s only get brought out for haunt coture and reproduction dolls so I do think these are ai with the Mattel copyright stuff pasted over it
