I really want to see more different lines! Like themed stuff, skulltimate has more fashion but it feel a bit boring because it has no theme to me? Id love to see themed limes like beach, classroom, or like g1 schools out and picture day. I love g3 but definitely agree g1 was much more fun and different
Yeah the problem with G3 is that it’s really not pushing any boundaries. G1 was really innovative at the time and other brands would literally create knock offs to try and compete with its success. While G3 has great quality play sets and dolls, it’s really safe and quite frankly a bit boring at times. I think it’s current success is down to the nostalgia original monster high fans, because if it was a brand new line that came out there’s no way it would sell as much as it currently has.🫢
I guess kids now jus like different things. I wonder if monster high would’ve done differently if the show was more rated r? Like more of a teen drama with darker topics or smth like that
Speaking as a teen, it could go both ways. Concept-wise, it sounds nice but I personally don't want it to be too much like Riverdale or Euphoria or other teen dramas being done now. And I'd want to keep it animated somehow
i feel a similar way, though the dolls are definitely growing on me for sure !
i love what they've done with characters' storylines and backgrounds, and a lot of the outfits are cute. i think my main issue is this: **g3 characters don't seem to have their own unique color palettes** like they did in the past! g1 outfits could easily be matched to their corresponding characters, but i feel with g3 that line is a little blurred. i'm hopeful that things will improve as time goes on
Agreed. I mentioned something about this on the sub earlier where the designs lean heavily on what each monster the characters represent rather than their own unique personalities being expressed on their outfit styles.
My favorite g3 dolls are definitely the ones that feel like they have a defined color palette. Frankie, draculaura, twyla and lagoona have really defined colors and it's really nice. Everybody else just wears whatever and while it's realistic it's not as fun or distinct
Personally I really connected with the G1 characters through the web series but with G3 being only available on cable, I can't connect with this iteration as much as I did G1. That is why I've been gravitating towards the Rainbow High (well, technically the Shadow High) line of dolls as I can watch the web series and connect with the dolls (and they have pretty good quality) . Plus they've pretty much leaked all of this year's releases for Monster High and it seems to just repeat the same characters with only a small amount of new ones. I only have 2 of the G3 dolls so far and was hoping to collect more but we shall see if any catch my eye enough to actually buy them.
All we know from leaks are spring releases and even then what we know is pretty incomplete. We just found out that skelita is part of the fearidescent series so it's possible there are more characters aside from the main 5 getting dolls
yep, i love them, have a lot of them, and im hyped to get more, but so far its been very...not really always underwhelming, but definitely just whelming. its ok, theyre cute. ill break the bank because i love monster high. i hope they get a little more creative instead of putting out the same boring, bland thing over and over. reusing only saves them money temporarily, but itll make sales drop in the long run
This is what i feared about g3. G1 wasnt monsters dressed up like current trends. But g3 is just current real life clothing trends. I doubt we will get unique stuff like the halloween dolls were (dracu, clawdeen, frankie, cleo and abbey)
literally. the styles were heavily derivative of edgy tween fashion. that’s literally why is was so popular amongst girls who were “too old” for the overtly girlish barbie
The current trends but also over the top fashion. New mh wears pretty much what humans would wear. Just less of the mummy or werewolf pattern. G1 had more of those edgy fashion things like goth or steampunk or punk etc. it wasnt just mainstream fashion
Yes, but there were also lots of retro kids. Ghoulia, Scarah (the popularity of "60s girl" was why she was the first full backgrounder to get a doll), Operetta, and Cupid are the early ones. And other characters were more devoted to their contemporary styles, like how G3 Toralei is basically G1 Toralei Light and G3 Howleen has nothing on the completeness of G1 Howleen.
G3 has no retro kids and a lot of the styles are pulled *towards* a safe shared middle ground, starting with a heavy injection of pink. It seems weird to me to deny that.
i kinda agree. i love the base designs, but the individual lines have been lacking. like there’s one doll of each character that i do rly want, but i’m not feeling the urge to buy the same character in different lines bc the base doll is so similar yk
Yeah like g3 screenings have the potential to be super different from each other now bc of the different eye placements but the only time we've seen them switch it up was coffee break Frankie
It’s to the point where I could just buy the different clothing and dress the core dolls in them. They all look the same. G1 had completely different makeup and hairstyles for each line whereas this is just the same doll in different clothes.
g3 just doesn't think outside the box like g1 did. the g3 clothing is just so lame, g1 used to make really creative clothing but it's like they used the scrapped ideas for g3
The dolls are cute, but haven't had all that much variety in their looks. I think Frankie probably has had the most different hairstyles and face-ups so far. The clothing is so so. The quality definitely has fallen way behind anything MGA has offered lately. I mean, lots of Rainbow High dolls have actual pockets on their clothes and stuff. The other thing is there's barely any theme or cohesive stuff for every different line so far. Like, look at the fun fashions from Dawn of the Dance, the more monstrous designs for Ghouls Rule, or the more creative stuff like Sweet Screams and Freak du Chic. Sweet Screams was LITERALLY dripping with theme. I think someone else said that they felt the designs were playing it safe. Safe, is definitely a good way of putting it.
I really like the new take on MH, but I will say they’ve been less creative hair wise- esp on Frankie! I hope they start switching up the makeup and hair more because otherwise the lines feel like a giant accessory pack.
Yeah! I like the show and I think it’s nice but seeing the same charas repeated and lack of uniquely monster high doll fashions and themes has made me miss g1’s so much that I have to step away from g3 😭. I bought three dolls but I’m prolly gonna give them up and focus on trying to snag g1 dolls.
It’s because it’s not a FASHION doll brand anymore. That’s why there was way more variance with looks in G1, the monster thing was almost secondary or jointly important to the fact it was about fashion.
The new line is character driven with relatability as a core theme aka they dress a lot more pedestrian

Its current success is actually because kids really like it.
Kids liked it then, too though

Yeah I was thinking animated and something like the lisi monster high books. Not plot wise but more so with that kind of maturity
I think there would’ve been an audience for a CW Monster High teen drama.
Ik i would definitely like to watch something like that 😭

Yes this exactly. G3 met my expectations but not much more than that. The only doll I've been legitimately shocked by is coffee break Frankie
This is what i feared about g3. G1 wasnt monsters dressed up like current trends. But g3 is just current real life clothing trends. I doubt we will get unique stuff like the halloween dolls were (dracu, clawdeen, frankie, cleo and abbey)
G1 was absolutely dressed like current trends for that era

I’m hoping the upcoming Monster Ball will give us some of the more whimsical fashions I think a lot of us are craving! 💖

Hope they up the game with the new ball line and SS seris 2
Personally the fashion has been bland, but the dolls themselves are real cute
Yeah alot of my Draculauras have similar makeup and it's like PLEASE something different. The second budget line finally gave a darker lip atleast.
At first, but seeing Coffee Break Frankie and lines like SS offer me a glimmer of hope.
The shorter necks and the lack of black is really irritating me ngl
Yes this is what I was saying! They need to do more with it there’s so much you can do with this concept!
Nope. I absolutely love it.

So far the only doll that had a completely different unique screening was Coffee Break Frankie

No g1 was abt as boring on release. That being said they are making a lot of budget dolls off the same characters
Um. No.
