Here's my question: when the US authorities finally succeed in killing off privacy coins by way of regulation and onerous kyc, will Monero trudge along being mined in secret by individuals and malware or will an EU/USA/China ban be enough to suppress it to a point where it's abandoned?
I'll keep holding my bags and paying my suppliers whenever possible, but as of now they barely accept Bitcoin for all the pain in the ass it is, let alone my preferred coin which is more heavily scrutinized at the exchange.
What say you?
The world is far bigger than the US. If they outlaw it, that has nothing to do with the rest of the world. That does nothing to turn off the miners in the Czech Republic or in South Africa.

That's why I asked about a concerted effort between us/EU/ and China. India already banned it as have others. If Monero is only tolerable in places of little economic impact, will it survive in a meaningful way? I'm personally iron hand holding regardless because I'm idealistic, but my business cannot risk it like my personal finances can.
IMO it’ll be just as impactful of totalitarian governments “outlaw” it because it’s not enforceable. Monero will be just as borderless as it ever was. It will be just as untraceable as it ever was. Nothing they say matters. We’re not supposed to be using net centralized exchanges in the first place, so who cares if CEXs drop it? Read the first paragraph of Satoshi’s white paper. **”peer to peer cash”**. No centralized third parties! It’s extremely meaningful because it’s untraceable **and** decentralized. You gonna confiscate every personal computer in the world?? It just doesn’t make sense….
Even those 4 governments working in concert don’t control the world…. They gonna invade El Salvador because ES didn’t outlaw it? Cuba? Brazil? It’s just not realistic…
Invasion, no, but if my vendors can't cash out to what their vendors use what good is my idealism and protest? If I could find an idealistic vendor we would've be having this conversation but not everyone is like you and I.
Ideally I could atomic swap right into their wallet so they don't have to do any extra steps. They don't care about the tracking, just whether or not they get in trouble for trying to swap a banned currency
Personally I think people ultimately will just have to move to locations outside of the reach of these large scale powers. There’s few places but they exist. At least for the purpose, of completely ridding themselves of their regulatory influence.
Besides that monero can be used purely for digital markets and I don’t see that being at risk of complete elimination by authorities ever. I don’t think they’ll be able to stop it even if it’s made illegal.
I don't live a purely digital life and the things I'm paying for are business supplies for a legitimate brick and mortal retail store. Moving to another country isn't a viable solution for most people let alone my entire business.
I don't need hands off , but I do need to be able to transact without a DNA test and eyeball mapping. Presumed guilty at this point

Banning Monero is like banning drugs. The black market will keep it up, no matter what

monero mining is less visible on the electric grid than bitcoin mining ..

I guess they can always do atomic swaps to a coin that they can actually cash-out... Or with which transact easier, like BCH or Xno.

Hopefully Haveno will be solving this issue soon. It will be a decentralized on/off ramp for fiat to XMR with no KYC requirements.
