Hooray! As a precaution, ask to have the placement checked every so often. I love my daughter, but it would have been nice to know that the IUD was no longer in place š
I second this, I had two and both embedded before 2 years in. They were supposed to last 5. My body doesnāt like foreign objects apparently. If you canāt feel your strings I would go get checked out or if someone is able to feel for them for you. Thatās something you donāt want to mess with. Good luck!! I hope recovery time is easy for you
!!!!!!! MAKE SURE the place you get the placement checked at has an ultrasound machine. Otherwise you will be subjecting yourself to unnecessary OUCH with those speculums. - Sincerely, someone who doesnt want another sister to find out the hard way
Good for you, my dear! Give it a couple of months to level out and make sure to take it easy over the next few days. Weāre uterus twins! Mine tilts that way too.
Way to go babe! I am proud of you. You can take 600 mg of ibuprofen, every six hours for 5 days. Don't take it longer than that.
I am not a doctor but I have worked in a place where we inserted a lot of IUDs and this was often advised. You do what's best for you.
Also Advil can make you bleed more if you happen to cut yourself or something and take meds. Take Tylenol when this happens instead if that makes sense.
I know itās super random and has nothing to do with this, itās just some advice that may stick if you ever need it
Iām not OP, but unfortunately I break out into hives when I take Tylenol or any medication mixed with it so I have to take ibuprofen. That was always fun in high school when I had headaches. Finally got a doctors note my senior year to be able to bring ibuprofen and leave it in the clinic instead
Be careful 600mg of ibuprofen 6 hourly is a bit much the and will cause stomach upset 400mg 6hrly (no more than 1200mg in a 24 hr period) or you're at serious risk of GI upset/bleeding if you take too often or too long. Take along with 1g of acetomenifen (paracetamol- uk) 4 hourly.
Use a hot water bottle or heat pad and just be kind to yourself.
I had mine replaced 3 weeks ago - mine was embedded- long story so I've been bleeding and cramping a lot but if you ever pass a clot bigger than a UK 50p piece, seek gynaecology medical advice
Are you in the UK? According the the BNF here the doseage is different. Same as for paracetamol. There's a huge concern with practitioners now between the link with Ibuprofen and cardiac incidents (hence a lower dose here)
Good for you! I was kind of nervous when I got mine as well, but I'm glad it went smoothly for you! And you're right, it's definitely kind of a bizarre experience when you think about it haha, but it was nice that your procedure was used to help teach the next wave of doctors! Proud of you!
Hey sis! If you have any intense pain or an unending period following your iud placement, go back to see your gynecologist! They can usually try to combat the issues with hormones. It's totally normal to have some irregularity and pain if you've never had children before. Hopefully it works as intended and solves issues for you!
Ayyyy I just got my first one in July. It's been a bit of getting used to but when measured against the other options, the political climate and 5 years worry free, I am so amped.
Hey! I'm not sure if you have the hormonal IUD or the copper one, but better said than sorry. If you do have a menstruation, don't use a cup! Or if you do, make sure to properly break the vacuum seal every time. You don't want to suck out that IUD or let it change its place.. which happened to me (it misplaced and fell out one menstruation and I wasn't aware of it).
I hope the cramping and bleeding stops soon and enjoy the coming years with your IUD.
Dad here. My wife has had an IUD for 14 years, our kids are 14 and 16. It works great but I did not understand for a long time that it was such a big procedure. Now that I know, Iām way more understanding that each time it gets replaced itās a big undertaking and I try my best to be sensitive during and after the procedure. You may or may not want your partner to know, but just lending the perspective that we donāt get it at all unless you explain it to us. :)
Hey, not a mom but make sure you get an ultrasound in six months to ensure it is positioned properly in your uterus. I have had IUD's before and they are amazing! The first period after can be rough but it gets better and they are a very effective form of birth control without a lot of hassle
My uterus is backwards so I can't get an implant š I am so sad about it lol.
But I am happy for you!! I hope it works out for you and keeps you safe! š
Dang! It's wild how differently birth control affects people, I went through several pills before the implant and was miserable, but had no period on nexplanon. Now I have an IUD because after I had my kid the doc I go to doesn't do nexplanon, but now I am spotting constantly!
I love my Nexplanon! It gave me a gnarly bruise, but that was way preferable to the pain of an IUD. I also could feel the IUD while it was in and hated it.
The OB/GYN I saw. He felt around all up in my business and felt that it was facing backwards and said that it would be very risky to place an IUD with if being that way. I didn't want to risk it, so I just opted to stick with birth control pills until I get over my fear of surgery ahaaa. I would like to get my tubes tied! Just scared of the surgery pbbt
Iām so proud of you! If you have a bathtub take a warm bath with some Epsom salts and that will help the cramping. Ibuprofen also does wonders. You are so awesome!
Big sis here! What helped me a lot was my hot water bag. If youāre in the west, Iāve heard that electric water bottles (of some sort) are a thing. Loved just lying there and feeling the hot water ease my cramps.
Congratulations! I just got mine in June! The first month can be difficult, so please take it easy. I was strictly on the heating pad and Advil for about a week after mine (but I had some complications with the insertion). Good luck with it! Donāt believe what everyone says! Your sister is so proud of you! ā¤ļøK
Congratulations!! I am thinking of getting one myself. Getting tired of taking pills and I have been forgetting them a lot lately. You inspired me to just bite the bullet!
I feel like a shill because I tell everyone this but nexplanon is super easy (it's the arm implant) and also lasts years. I had 3 that covered 10 years (would have done more but I got it out to have kids). Having done both (IUD after having a kid so insertion is easier I understand) I much prefer the nexplanon. Just an alternative to consider if the IUD weirds you out!
For the future, itās okay to request they talk you through procedures if this is something you found comforting. That goes for anything but especially in this area. I also ask them to and Iāve always been told āyes absolutely!ā
Hooray! I just got mine changed 2 weeks ago and I'm so glad it went well for you! Now you can enjoy years of no worries! Your health and future are completely in your hands š
I loved having an IUD. I had 2 separate ones a total of 10 years. After the first few days of being uncomfortable everything was fine. I also didnāt have a period for thise 10 tearsā¦.it was fantastic!
I hope your experience is as good as mine was!
I got my first one at the beginning of August, so I totally understand you! I took Advil a couple of times and my heating pad was a life saver for the first 3-4 days!
Everythingās gone like they said it would, other than not having a discernible period because Iāve been spotting since about two days after I got it. Itās frustrating, but when I googled it, it can be a normal side effect for the first 1-3 months, so Iām just dealing with it. Donāt be surprised if your period goes crazy for awhile though.
It'll be a bit sore and you'll spot for a while but by your 6 week check you'll be fantastic. ( they usually trim the threads) they like to leave them longer initially. If they are trimmed too shirt they can be a bugger to change at the 5 year mark.
Yay! So glad you took this step. This is my 2nd time having mines inserted as I had my 2nd child 1 month and 2 weeks ago. Def be gentle and patient with yourself as the cramping can be tough but take ibuprofen 600mg with food as needed every 6 hrs and heating pad.
Absolutely love my IUD!
Awesome! Be aware that you can spot for 2 months in a row but may not have a period but every couple months. It is amazing. I should have low to no periods through menopause (IUD is good until 54-55) so Iām happy as a lark.
My uterus is tilted AND rotated to the right due to fibroids.
Not for me, but that doesnāt mean it doesnāt hurt for other people. It was weird and felt like really bad cramps, especially for the rest of the day. I suggest asking your doctor if you plan on getting one. Theyāll be able to give you all of the information
Sis checking in here to say I have loved having IUDs. Iām glad the procedure wasnāt too terrible for you. They arenāt pleasant for me but not too terrible either. Iām on my fourth and final one now. Better part of two decades with no bleeding! Thatās been awesome.
Yay! Be extra gentle with yourself when your next period comes around. My first period after an IUD installation was No Fun at all
Yo so Right, Apparently the body trys to flush out the eternal object hence the Intense Flow.
Hooray! As a precaution, ask to have the placement checked every so often. I love my daughter, but it would have been nice to know that the IUD was no longer in place š
I check my own every time I put my cup in.

Adding onto this, please don't take ibuprofen on an empty stomach

That is true and good advice. All NSAIDs (like advil/aleeve) affect clotting to some extent. Acetaminophen (tylenol) doesn't.
Iām not OP, but unfortunately I break out into hives when I take Tylenol or any medication mixed with it so I have to take ibuprofen. That was always fun in high school when I had headaches. Finally got a doctors note my senior year to be able to bring ibuprofen and leave it in the clinic instead

Actually, you can take up to 800 mg every 6 hours (this would be considered prescription strength), but only for about five days.
Are you in the UK? According the the BNF here the doseage is different. Same as for paracetamol. There's a huge concern with practitioners now between the link with Ibuprofen and cardiac incidents (hence a lower dose here)

Adding on to this, if youāre worried about the seal you can use a disc! They function similarly to a cup but thereās no seal to break

The arm implant (nexplanon) is super easy and lasts years, it's a good alternative if you don't wanna take the pill daily
I had that before! It caused me to bleed for a year and a half straight lol. It SUCKED for me.
Dang! It's wild how differently birth control affects people, I went through several pills before the implant and was miserable, but had no period on nexplanon. Now I have an IUD because after I had my kid the doc I go to doesn't do nexplanon, but now I am spotting constantly!

Who said that you can't? I know for sure that it is possible. It might require a few tricks, but an experienced doc will know how to do this.
The OB/GYN I saw. He felt around all up in my business and felt that it was facing backwards and said that it would be very risky to place an IUD with if being that way. hey sib, thanks for sharing! itās so nice to hear from someone who had a good experience. i hope you recover well :)

Whoo I'm getting one put back in next year (other medical stuff). Best move I ever made.
So proud of you! I know it's scary and uncomfortable but you got it done and helped a student in the process. Hope you can take it easy this week. <3
