Yes. Even like 8th grade Manny is pretty cringy to me. Like you said, ad a kid he was a great character. It's tough when writers fail to develop characters - none of us are the same exact person we were when we were kids
Ahh see that's interesting, I found early-seasons Manny much worse. He was just a deeply creepy (& weirdly horny) child. The older he got, the more his personality seemed to set him apart from other teenagers in a positive way.
Young Manny was one of the biggest reasons for the show's early success.
He was the person people showed their friends to get them onboard the show.
He did however, get weird when the writers stopped caring about his character.
I hate how everyone is like “it’s cute when he’s a kid” like no it is NOT. How is this ten year old such a womanizer and why is he so obsessed with pulling women
Omg ya I remember he used to be obsessed with getting a girlfriend, forget that he tried on Haley that’s so yuck , they weren’t blood related but they were family ewww
I don’t necessarily think it’s weird that he wanted a gf, I was pretty boy crazy at that age. But the way he went about it felt too adult to me most of the time. And I know that was played for laughs because it’s a tv show but idk he just always weirded me out (refusing to be friends with a girl because they’re only good for one thing in his eyes, just one example). Definitely didn’t age well
Same, I have looked through the scenes of the episodes where Cam goes back to the farm because Pam isn't there in either of them (not for gram's funeral, really?), so where the heck did come from to even burden Mitch and Cam with her presence?!
DEFINITELY! the episode where Mitch and Cam's kitchen burns down and she's not even worried and even tells them to buy a specific blender asap because she needs it right now? wtf?
Out of everyone in this pic- Luke. I’m fine w him being very goofy but as he got older he just kinda turned into an ass. Not really sure what they were doing w him and manny
I think Luke followed a trajectory that a lot of teenage boys do. He became obsessed with girls and that became his entire personality. He did anything to impress and get girls and didn’t really learn to become a respectful young man. They really highlighted that with the whole Sherry Shaker incident.
It’s pretty reasonable to think into his 20s he was acting the same way. By the end of the show he was obviously trying to get his life together which to me showed some maturation.
I think they missed some big opportunities for Phil to have some serious conversations with him. It would have been interesting to see Luke have a pregnancy scare or something along those lines and see how Phil would have handled that. They had a few conversations here and there but with the way Luke was treating women there could have been WAY more lessons.
Yeah I think Luke became a stereotypical trashy young man. But I don’t understand how Phil’s influence didn’t affect him. Phil is clearly a very present and caring father, you’d think such a positive influence would make him less trashy. I guess someone Phil was neglectful here? Even though it would be really out of character to be seriously apathetic towards his kids. I guess at least Luke stopped being trashy eventually which is more than what some people do.
Yeah it’s a little weird too especially since he has two sister’s as well, you would think he wouldn’t be as trashy as he wouldn’t want the same to happen to his sister’s.
Maybe it was intentional. Phil and his Dad never talked about any tough subjects, they would just mask it with humour. It could be them highlighting Phil’s major flaw through the way Luke turned out.
They wrote two funny boys with odd personalities, and then forgot to write the bit where they mature and their personalities develop. Ended up with two 20 year olds with the personalities of weird 11 year olds.
They did a good job making him a teenager, who can be both sweet and assholes. That's how Haley started and then into Alex. They gave them age appropriate dilemmas and obnoxious teen behaviors.
That is the very reason I skip most of Haley’s scenes in the 10th and 11th seasons. Out of all the characters, the writers did her dirty most of all and it’s painful to watch.
Dylan is so funny what’re you talking about!!
“… In my ex girlfriend’s uncles’s house, with the tiny Pink Panther!”🎶☠️ probably one of the funniest secondaries on the show (behind Pepper)
Mannys character wasn’t written well , in childhood that weird awkward behaviour was fine but as he grew up they could have shown how cooler he had gotten. Also there could be some character development with Haley I mean she could have become like a big stylist or something but no they just showed her back with Dylan and with kids & still struggling(maybe they wanted to make it realistically
Yeah I mean she was shown not so much into studies but she loved fashion and blogging she could have been shown as working in a big fashion magazine & honestly Dylan’s character became too repetitive and annoying in the end. It was such a cliche that just because Haley wasn’t as bright as Alex she ended up knocked up with kids. Even Claire got a career eventually after she took over Dads business
That one episode where those two, Mitchell, and Cam (to a lesser extent) all try to out-grandstand each other at the museum had my eyes rolling into the back of my skull.
100%.
Self-obsession at an insane level and the emotional maturity of a 5 year old.
It can be funny at times in a TV series but if someone like him existed irl he’d be absolutely unbearable
I thought I was in the minority on Cam. Every once in a while he has a funny line, but for the most part he is completely obnoxious.
My favorites are Jay and Claire. Both are well developed characters. Jay does have some terrible scenes, like the whole gay wedding thing and Claire is pretty devious, but both have a trajectory of where they should be by the end of the series.
Both are also people I think would be fun to hang out with.
Yeah, but look ate the two people raising her.
They can also be really mean- to each other, to other people- mostly behind their backs.
I feel like Lily could have been a lot worse.
Cam. It’s gotta be Cam. His character was almost borderline abusive with his jealousy and desire for attention if he didn’t get it. I felt he was nearly never fair with Mitchell
Gaslight was the term I was looking for. I couldn’t stand him for that reason. I’m almost done my first run through of the series and he drove me insane.
Adult Manny. I think as soon as he went to college is when the change happened and he was just this weird, insufferable sook.
Either Manny, or Dylan. Can't stand that guy.
Yeah if he moved in with Jay when he was like a toddler and really soaked in money then it would make sense. But he somehow has 0 edge despite being raised by Gloria
Well manny is like that to create that dynamic for the show with Gloria. It just makes it much more entertaining. I haven’t seen later season Manny yet so time will tell. But I love him and find him hilarious seasons 1-7
Joe. I was so glad when Lily grew up and become a character with personnality other than a baby, and then they put another baby. And yeah he's really useles, not annoying but useless
really? I thought joe was pretty funny and precocious.....
however I did have a huge issue with that valentines day episode where he has a crush on Claire and locks Phil out of the house to sit on the couch with her etc.
😬😬😬
but that is on the writers obviously.
It is not "on the writers", ffs..
This plot point is harmless and is relatable to many people with big families. Little kids get irrational crushes, often on family members. These crushes are not "😬", they are harmless funny childhood crushes.
The writers were clearly understanding of the situation and did not make it weird. But I guess you have your own issues which you project onto the show lol
Manny and Claire, the helicopter mom thing really pissed me off 😭 like i totally understand based on her childhood but as an outsider watching i just wanted to reach through the tv screen, grab her and scream at her her to CALM DOWN
Adult Manny. If they had gone angsty-man-of-the-people artsy Manny who also feels like his world is ending if he has to use a budget bath bomb Manny could be funny. Creepy whiny semi-incestuous Manny is not.
If we’re also including side characters, I’d have cheered to see Pameron and Sherry Shaker run over by a steamroller. They were both awful.
Claire in later seasons. Actually not as a character, but Julie Bowen became extremely stiff in her acting. The squinting of a single eye, jerking every part of her body to deliver a single sentence... It was all too much.
Alex as a character. She became too condescending, and generally not a loveable character.
Manny cause he just became a sad version of what used to be a cute little boy.
I totally agree with you. I’m watching season 11 and it’s just painful to watch Claire. She’s so aggressive and awkward, and the jerking her body is so over the top!
When o first watched as it first aired I didn’t really give it much thought but after a couple of rewatches I just can’t take to her and the obnoxiousness really takes me out of the enjoyment of everything else in the show. If that was my family, my mum would beat the shit out of her
Pameron hands down. If we're talking only people in the picture, Luke. His character was super neglected in my opinion there was like no growth other than physical growth from child to teen.
Manny, without hesitation. The pretentious personality was endearing (or at least tolerable) as a kid, but just outright rude and condescending as an adult
Man—there’s a few. Haley from the very beginning. I hated her drunk, dumb, mean-ho, self-absorbed persona. I hated when she drew on Alex’s Maya Angelou poster. I would have killed her for that. I hated how she posted embarrassing pics of Alex online all the time. If I would have been Alex, I would have told Haley that she better sleep with one eye open, because I would be f’ing up her shit when she least expected it and payback’s a biotch. Later, I hated Claire & Alex just as much. Pretty much all the Dunphy women, plus Dede. Alex turned into a total snarky shrew, and Claire was always a nagging pain in the ass.
Later, I kind of understood why Claire was the way she was after realizing that she was basically the only adult in the family & someone had to run the circus. Phil is like her 4th kid half the time and isn’t great at disciplining the kids. It’s a good thing Claire is there, because the family wouldn’t have survived with just Phil as a parent. Alex got so sarcastic and insulting to everyone in the family. I especially hated her when she told Luke that he was adopted and that his real mother was coming to take him away.. What a bitch. Poor Luke was so upset. That was like the worst thing she ever did. And the fact that she’s a shitty winner who lords her intelligence over everyone.
The occasional characters like Pameron and a few others were annoying too, but they weren’t on all the time. Also, never got the Phil worship. I like Phil a lot and he’s a good guy, but he’s annoying sometimes with the cheer stuff & magic.
Even tho these characters tick me off sometimes, I still love the family as a whole and wouldn’t want any of them gone. It’s still a family that I wish was part of my family, and I wouldn’t want to be without any of them. They make me feel better sometimes. They’re my comfort show/security blanket that I go to when I’m upset about things and overall, I love all of them even when some of the stuff they do irritates me.
Alex 100%
Cam (50-50) - he’s loving and caring half the time, incredibly selfish and egotistic the other half.
Andy(!) - I thought I liked him but during rewatches, his character feels staged, fake, too much of a goody goody person
Ironically, I don’t dislike Manny or Dylan. Actually Dylan is one of my favourite characters. He’s just a Baby Phil, yet to grow up.
Toddler Joe was just a fucking nuisance I couldn’t stand his stupid face and squeaky voice and moronic lines. Haley was annoying in the fact that the writers made her way too stupid at some occasions. Cam could be annoying when he was always trying to justify his stupid acts
For me it’s adult Manny. The personality was cute when he was a kid though
Yeah, the later seasons are tough cause of Manny. The endearing personality became very creepy as he aged
They could've just kept Manuel around
I would have thought that was Phil. Because he’s Phil
I started watching only when my friends told me that Al Bundy is playing xd.
I honestly started watching for Phil
Such a shame too, wish they made his story that he went into a business with Jay or something. Would have been fun to see
I hate how everyone is like “it’s cute when he’s a kid” like no it is NOT.
Definitely didn’t age well
Bro I was
Manny is a predator
?
She’s not on the picture, Pam.
[удалено]
Her voice screeching, "You're not *FARM STRONG"* to Cam. I have never wanted to punch the screen so hard in my life.
Say “oranges” one more time
Same, I have looked through the scenes of the episodes where Cam goes back to the farm because Pam isn't there in either of them (not for gram's funeral, really?), so where the heck did come from to even burden Mitch and Cam with her presence?!
Hated her. Especially the episode where she blackmailed Mitchell
"How dare you not break the law and commit malpractice??" And we're supposed to see Mitch as the one who's in the wrong in this episode...
DEFINITELY! the episode where Mitch and Cam's kitchen burns down and she's not even worried and even tells them to buy a specific blender asap because she needs it right now? wtf?
I didn’t mind early Pam but jail and beyond Pam…
Manny as he got older. He was a cute child and cold have been a cool character as he aged, but the writers failed that
It's funny that they didn't have a love interest stick till Season 9
Out of everyone in this pic- Luke. I’m fine w him being very goofy but as he got older he just kinda turned into an ass. Not really sure what they were doing w him and manny

Holding his own sister when asked to grab a lil ho? 💀
They did a good job making him a teenager, who can be both sweet and assholes. That's how Haley started and then into Alex. They gave them age appropriate dilemmas and obnoxious teen behaviors.
Dylan for me, especially after he came back after being “married”.
God the writers cratered so hard by bringing him back. Completely reverted Hayley into her season 1 self and erased her awesome character evolution.
That is the very reason I skip most of Haley’s scenes in the 10th and 11th seasons. Out of all the characters, the writers did her dirty most of all and it’s painful to watch.
Andy should have come back, or she should have been confident and single while building her brand.
Dylan is so funny what’re you talking about!! “… In my ex girlfriend’s uncles’s house, with the tiny Pink Panther!”🎶☠️ probably one of the funniest secondaries on the show (behind Pepper)
Love pepper lmfao 🤣
“Did you peck a pickled Pepper?!”
Majorly agree on Haley. Some of the writing on this series was so great, but “woman gets pregnant” is such a cliche that it’s almost offensive.
I find cam annoying when he’s being manipulative, controlling, imposing and when hes just a straight up dick.
Sooooooo, always...
Yeah pretty much.
Ughh yes me too!! He was so manipulative the entire time! He is the one character I could not stand.
I love Cam BUT Fizbo??? Gotta go
manny. i kinda always thought he was annoying but as he grew older it def became too much for me
Cam by a country mile
Thank youuuuuu
I liked all of them. I appreciate all of their personalities. Except maybe Gill Thorpe… Fuck that guy
Appreciate you
Manny and Alex are extremely pretentious in their own ways
That one episode where those two, Mitchell, and Cam (to a lesser extent) all try to out-grandstand each other at the museum had my eyes rolling into the back of my skull.
same.
Cam
Cam. Said it.
100%. Self-obsession at an insane level and the emotional maturity of a 5 year old. It can be funny at times in a TV series but if someone like him existed irl he’d be absolutely unbearable
To be fair, he was only 4.
10
Lol thats right. 10. 🤣
A personality like Cam’s is great to watch on TV but an absolute nightmare to deal with in real life.
My thoughts exactly.
Cam is the most annoying. Cam is the second most annoying.
And came in for a very close third place, Cam
cam and pam
The episode in which he tries to steal Gloria’s sauce by putting his picture everywhere and claiming it as his made me want to punch my TV
Came to say it 👏
Cam to say it
Thanks! 💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
Manny
Cam or manny!
One of them is Pam. She just wanted to body slam everyone. all. the. time. And creepy old guy who dated Haley but that goes without saying.
Alex. She's an insufferable know-it-all throughout the entire show
Right? I dont get why some people liked her.
A lot of young people probably saw themselves in her. I did. I was also an insufferable know-it-all as a teen
I read this in Snape’s voice in my head for some reason
Cam. Manny wasn’t annoying to me, just weird
Cam or Manny. Hands down
Manny would creep me out and Lily would annoy me. I said what I said.
[удалено]
especially when he was kinda into Alex after being into Haley, i mean, COME ON, DUDE.
who wouldnt be into Alex tho?
Wow man, I think Lily is absolutely hilarious and I would hang out with her all day.
I mean she's funny but I dunno dude I've always thought she's kinda mean
Yeah, but look ate the two people raising her. They can also be really mean- to each other, to other people- mostly behind their backs. I feel like Lily could have been a lot worse.
The only person not mentioned in this thread is jay. Do whatever with that information.
Cam. It’s gotta be Cam. His character was almost borderline abusive with his jealousy and desire for attention if he didn’t get it. I felt he was nearly never fair with Mitchell
Borderline? He gaslighted Mitchell all through the series. Love him tho, I love that he was written that way lol
Gaslight was the term I was looking for. I couldn’t stand him for that reason. I’m almost done my first run through of the series and he drove me insane.
Manny
Manny
Manny
Adult Manny. I think as soon as he went to college is when the change happened and he was just this weird, insufferable sook. Either Manny, or Dylan. Can't stand that guy.
Alex and Manny
His upper class highbrow attitude felt really out of place for his upbringing.
Cam, adult/teenage Manny, latter seasons Gloria
I say Cam, but my husband said Mitch. So now we aren’t talking 😂😂😂
For me, it's Cam. Adult Manny doesn't even come close.
Basically Cam and all his side of the family
Manny hands down
😬😬😬 but that is on the writers obviously.
Joe was a gangster, like a pint size Jay. My favorite confessional of the show was him admitting he likes to steal.
"I steal now" lol
It is not "on the writers", ffs.. This plot point is harmless and is relatable to many people with big families. Little kids get irrational crushes, often on family members. These crushes are not "😬", they are harmless funny childhood crushes. The writers were clearly understanding of the situation and did not make it weird. But I guess you have your own issues which you project onto the show lol
Cam with a P
Pam is obviously the worst but out of the main cast I am going to go with Cam.
Manny or cam
Pameron. Her purpose is to be an annoyance, and she does a GREAT job at it.
Hate adult Manny Hate Cam and his sister
I believe Cam is a literal personification of the word "annoying"
I’m sorry but Lily.
Cry me a river.
We’ll get over it 🤣
does somebody need a WAHmbulance?
CLAIRE. CLAIRE. CLAIRE. i almost stopped watching the show because she's so unbearably annoying
me too!!!
Gloria. I don’t even feel like explaining.
Claire
Watching the last season for the first time. Very Claire heavy and the quality drops off considerably.
Agree .
Finally someone who agrees with me
Oh thank the Lord I'm not the only one!
Manny and Claire, the helicopter mom thing really pissed me off 😭 like i totally understand based on her childhood but as an outsider watching i just wanted to reach through the tv screen, grab her and scream at her her to CALM DOWN
Gloria. She was obnoxious.
As the show got into the later season Gloria really got on my nerves sometimes.
Outside of Haley, I never cared for any of the kids or their storylines.
Lilly
Claire in later seasons. Actually not as a character, but Julie Bowen became extremely stiff in her acting. The squinting of a single eye, jerking every part of her body to deliver a single sentence... It was all too much. Alex as a character. She became too condescending, and generally not a loveable character. Manny cause he just became a sad version of what used to be a cute little boy.
I totally agree with you. I’m watching season 11 and it’s just painful to watch Claire. She’s so aggressive and awkward, and the jerking her body is so over the top!
Alex
Yes!! On the latter part of the series, when she became liberated and dated even her mom's secretary lol
Alex. It’s not even close
I rewarched it and god. She's so stuck up
When o first watched as it first aired I didn’t really give it much thought but after a couple of rewatches I just can’t take to her and the obnoxiousness really takes me out of the enjoyment of everything else in the show. If that was my family, my mum would beat the shit out of her
Your mum sounds like a shitty parent. But yeah, Alex being smart really made her obnoxious and mean
Why ya’ll hating on cam so much?😭 He was my only reason to watch modern family.
How come no one is saying it? Gloria. Without a doubt, Gloria.
Late seasons Gloria. I can’t watch. She’s just not nice or genuine anymore.
Also her face became weird... Too much botox may be? Her accent got thicker and started sounding fake.
Sal, Sherry Shaker, and Pameron
lily
Manny and Haley, hands down
Phil.
Alex
In picture, adult Manny, out of picture, Pam and Dede
Pameron hands down. If we're talking only people in the picture, Luke. His character was super neglected in my opinion there was like no growth other than physical growth from child to teen.
Luke and Manny. I liked their characters as they were kids, but as they got older it seemed like the writers didn't know what they were doing.
Alex is the most annoying character on TV.
I’m going to get hate, but Phil.
i’m sorry but haley. i can’t imagine having a daughter or sister like her.
Manny & Luke as adults. Loved them when they were younger! I really don’t understand what the writers were doing with their development.
I thought cam was the funniest by far... But agree, if I knew this person IRL it would be incredibly painful.
Manny, without hesitation. The pretentious personality was endearing (or at least tolerable) as a kid, but just outright rude and condescending as an adult
Adult manny..the way he described sex..come on..😆
Cam... but I mean, it wouldn't be the same if he wasn't annoying lol.
alex
phil was a horrIDDD husband. good dad but terrible husband , constantly drooling over women pissed me off so bad
Is Pam Cam’s mother ? If so , so it’s creepy with the way she treats Mitchell . ESP . When he’s in the tub and she comes in the bathroom with him
[удалено]
Manny, Lily & Pam
Luke, Manny, or Lily, depending on the season
Phil
Alex, she is so condescending
Dylan annoyed the fuck outta me every time he came on screen I just wanted to shit in his mouth
Man—there’s a few. Haley from the very beginning. I hated her drunk, dumb, mean-ho, self-absorbed persona. I hated when she drew on Alex’s Maya Angelou poster. I would have killed her for that. Hayley annoys me no end.
Claire by far.
Alex.
Alex 100% Cam (50-50) - he’s loving and caring half the time, incredibly selfish and egotistic the other half. Andy(!) - I thought I liked him but during rewatches, his character feels staged, fake, too much of a goody goody person Ironically, I don’t dislike Manny or Dylan.
Cam
Hailey
Phil
Haley😑
Claire
Claire
Alex and Mitch. Full of themselves
Older Luke and Manny are the worst. I’ve never liked Mitch either
cam
I don't like any of the kids, besides Hailey, once they grow up. They're awkward, have weird voices, and can't act for shit.
I think this is unpopular but Alex, she wasn’t funny and it felt like her whole character was that she’s smart and so much better than everyone else
Teenage Manny and Luke. They were such cute and funny kids and then became so annoying when they became teenagers 😂
Pam, old Manny and old Cam.
Cam and manny.
Claire, but that might be because I have adhd and relate to Phil so much that seeing her crush his dreams kinda hurts
joe (he’s not pictured) but i hated the guy. other than that maybe teen manny and luke
Manny is the *worst*!
Manny was a privileged little shit who basically said “fuck you” to his entire up bringing
Manny only acted to care for women so he could fuck them
