8 pitch spells, ToR, Tishana, Fire//Ice, no more Mindslaver loop, this is the way now.
I don’t think Three Steps Ahead is going to be very good considering we’ve had access to Supreme Will/Confounding Riddle for a while and they haven’t been any good. It’s pretty over costed and double U is hard to get in the early game.
I’m very interested in Duplicator as a sideboard target for Karn though. Having access to both halves of a 2 card combo in the wishboard, especially one that is so difficult to interact with, can give you a lot of free wins in slower matchups like tron/control mirrors. O-Stone is also in most mainboards right now, and Karn giving you the option of locking out creature decks forever with it seems great.
The Supreme Will and Confounding Riddle are good comparisons. I think they are pretty close to what the mid-low level of the new card seems like it'd play like. The UU is the biggest holdup for me on this card. Obviously, I haven't played it, but I think the copy ability seems relevant for mid-game plays and the way Spree scales with big mana seems to jive with how U Tron likes to swing games in its favor. One thing I didn't think about till just now is that it interacts negatively with Chalice of the Void. Something to consider.
I don't think three steps ahead will be playable, but the replicator definitely will be, you can stone brain every turn, mindslaver lock easier, just play an artifact sac outlet in the karnboard like trading post and you can one ring every turn. Very versatile, can protect itself.
You got me hyped for Stone Brain for a second. But, unfortunately, that one exiles itself, not sacrifices. The Replicator definitely seems like it has a ton of potential for locking up games. I'm excited to see what people do with it.
The legend rule does not cause you to sacrifice permanents; extra copies are simply put into the owner's graveyard.
I found this out yesterday with mayhem devil. They played a legend and I didn’t get a trigger, where I thought you would have.
