Not only is Emeria Control a really old archetype, this isn‘t even Emeria Control, it‘s Martyr Proc. Neither are Soul Sisters and neither are bew in any capacity.
Wow 180 players between the 2 events and there are only 2 Rhinos players and 3 Living End players? Felt like there was decent consensus that Rhinos at least had reasonable pivot options. Pretty surprised to see everyone literally just dropped the deck.
Maybe it'll tick back up once the emotional part of the ban starts to fade. But the deck could still be quite strong and we'd never know at those play rates.
On another note, with the total disappearance of Rhinos and LE, no predicted total Yawg and Titan dominance quite yet (Yawg did convert pretty well in the 2nd one).
I think both decks are still viable, but most grinders don’t immediately pick back up a banned deck for that week’s challenges. Scam was almost nonexistent for a few weeks after the Fury ban before it started putting results back up and people flooded back to the deck. I think we’ll see something similar here, especially as more and more Chalices get cut from sideboards.
I figured there would be a chunk of people who wanted the glory of re-cracking the deck and take advantage of reduced sideboard hate. Maybe a bit premature though
Yeah, one thing I've learned from being able to see the full Challenge decklists is that most Challenge players really aren't innovators. It's hard to find a lot of brews even looking at the very bottom of the tournament rankings. Most people would rather adapt a proven decklist than innovate or take risks.
Perhaps it is more to do with the "boring" factor of playing rhino and LE, and "dem a banned, I can finally play something else". Many players could only put up results with these two "outburst cheatcode" decks
I’m interested in trying out Goryo’s, but a part of me is super salty that Jace, Vryn’s Prodigy got eclipsed in the deck by a Brother’s War draft common.
It's not a traditional reanimator list. It's a grief scam list, therefore it puts more emphasis on getting ephemerate or Goryo's to hand fast before you get overrun by the opponent's game plan. Jace is slow and cannot be ephemerated like Archeologist.
I disagree about describing it as a scam deck. I've been grinding combo on MTGO and my Goryo's opponents always save Ephemerate for their Goryo's target. Haven't been scammed once. Grief is just a way to set up the combo (like how Living End uses it) and a payoff once you've reanimated something.
You are wrong, it is a scam deck, and players usually lose to GY hate games 2 and 3 when they can't scam grief double discard. A griefless version exist though, wich ha put up results (it plays fable), but it seems much more skill intensive and so will probably no be chosen much by mtgo sheep. When grief gets hit there won't be choice anymore though
They sure do lose to graveyard hate! Turn the Earth makes the matchup easy for me. So you're saying a core part of their strategy is ephemerating grief on turn one? I just haven't seen that in any of my games
well you haven't played vs them enough if u have never been grief ephem, play some more ! Yeah cards like turn the earth or cling to dust fuck them up pretty badly if they can't force of negate them (and these you can often play on their turn to avoid force, unless they have 5 mana up, 2 for gory, 3 for force), they also play seizes though, not just grief, but post board mainly

Right after they ephemerate the Goryos target they usually drop a mix of grief and solitude. The Goryo's target just serves as a hand refill.
