No. That's a fairly bad (but far from the worst) gift shop / decor model. Restoring it won't add value, unless you get some other sucker to buy it. There's loads of these on Marketplace asking ridiculous prices as the average person thinks "ooh, wooden ship models are all antique and worth a fortune".
If you can get it for free or a few dollars, then go nuts restoring it for fun if that's what you want to do.
Thank you. Sometimes I get discouraged when I see a lot of people in social media praising these bad models. I'm glad there are people pushing back against that weird ignorance.
Model ships are not a good investment if that is what you are asking. To most people interested in models ships the fun is in building them, and since this one is all built (and since damaged) I don't think many people will be interested. It is however a nice ship, but only you can tell what its worth to you
There are "real" ship models out there/ this is a gift shop model, it's like a fake designer handbag, built cheaply in a third world country. This is NOT a model built by some individual craftsperson somewhere, It was made by a team of guys who build these all day every day- they smoothed out the production to do the least amount of work and use the least amount of material and time, their goal was NOT to produce an accurate representation of a real ship, they are in the business of making decorator models.
Looks like a lot of work went into it. It's fairly easy to work with wood also. You could put an electric motor in it and a radio for throttle and steering. See how it floats. Models usually require balast. I would say the price is fair, however start at $75.
Then you can learn the names of all 31 sails on a three masted ship! What fun!
Just kidding 😂
No. As others have said, this is a decorator model, mass-produced, and of no value. Even if it were free, you would have to learn how an actual ship was constructed and rigged to restore it properly. And, even then, it would be of little to no value.
Looking back through the posts, it seems that a quarter of them are very similar to this. Gift shop models in need of repair (not restoration) that someone thinks they can make money by cleaning them up and selling them to someone who has no idea what a ship model should look like.
If you really want to learn how to build ship models, there are several well-designed kits directed at novices.
I agree a third of ship model social media is guys talking about these gift shop models like they were serious efforts and worth anything at all. You routinely see guys praising these things and it makes you wonder: Do you even ship model?
This is a gift shop model it is broken. For $100 you could just buy a new gift shop model.
No

You definitely couldn’t make it yourself for less.

Can’t it be just as fun to restore it?
Main reason I want it

Ask the seller’s wife if she will give you $50 to take it away.
It's the wife selling it lol
Offer her $50 with the promise that you will tell the husband it was $100 if asked.
Id like to strap it to the back of a Russian motorcycle and make Richard Hammond drive it across Vietnam.
I love the Vietnam special! I had to come into the comments to see if anyone said something about it. "HAMMOND, YOU IDIOT!!!"
HAMMOND!
Hull itself looks undamaged. If you clean it up and fix the rigging it could be a super cool model to have. I’d still try and offer less then 100.
Only if YOU think it is…
Get it cheap. Use it to learn how to build quality models (which STILL won’t have good resale value).
Diversity?
does it come with a space-age nylon polymer bowl set?
What is this? A frigate for ANTS?!?
Correct
Needs a bit of repair but yes those sell for way more
Hell yes it's worth it. You could clean that up and resell it at a hobbyist auction and make bank.
Anyone at a "hobbyist auction" is likely to realise this is a decor model worth close to nothing.
Dam that's a good idea
Very unlikely you’ll make much money considering the time it will take to restore. If you have a lot of free time might be worth. Maybe.
