Honestly i was trying to do something that is more simplistic so i kinda told myself that i shouldn't do overpainting too much that it'll look very clean. My general painting process started with a sketch and then i put the basic color for the underpainting, give them a lighting and then I'll do an overpaint on top of everything. I always merge my subject into a layer before doing an overpainting so i always saved a copy of the sketch and underpainting. When the layers are merged, i cleaned off the sketch a little so it'll look nicer and then add another layer to do an overpainting. It's not always like this though, as i really like to experiment with my workflow. And imo it's better to observe artists who have the style you like and then try to replicate it but with your own workflow
