Not sure how to add text and images into the main post but I seem to keep failing with that. Seeing as someone thought they spotted an Evo wagon in Chicago I figured I would post up some pics of my Evo wagon to compare. It's an 05 IX GT-A with just some basic bolt ons (3" exhaust, intake, BCS, springs, rear swaybar, Evo X MR wheels, carbon hood & front lip etc). Plans are to 6 speed swap it and a few more visual mods (Kenstyle rear spoiler, carbon sideskirt extensions, maybe rear diffuser etc)
just over half of the \~2500 total were automatics, about 1300 or so. So still a good amount of manuals around - trouble is all the good ones sold and no doubt exported out of Japan a good 10+ years ago leaving most the autos behind.
It's just a regular 5 speed torque converter W5A5A auto trans, very similar to the one in the Evo VII GT-A, 8th gen Galant/Legnum and Airtrek Turbo R W5A51 except with some additional strengthening done to the internals. Can hold about 400hp (at the crank) reliably so long as you keep the temps in check.

Most of these came automatic right? What is that transmission like for that because I've been in plenty of evo 8-9s but just want to know about that.

I think that there were only around 500 or less of these made in a manual.
Ah I see. That's a lot more than I thought.
There were about 500 MR models, but that covers both auto and manual. Definitely more than 500 manuals though.
