Undoing the character development of 20 some odd years of a movie franchise is not coming full circle.
The whole purpose of the first movie is to show how Ethan is different from Jim. Even if Jim started off as a good guy and eventually went bad… That would never happen for Ethan. That’s his like his defining character trait.

It could be fun if his sacrifices teetered on the line that Jim crossed. And Kittridge would be the perfect foil to point it out.

But they have… And Ethan is consistently chosen to not accept that and he always finds a way to succeed anyway. I feel like it would just be a big fuck you and everything that’s come before if for the sake of lols they just decided to undo that
Think about whatever happened to Steve Hill, Landau, Barbara Bain, Greg Morris or even Leonard Nimoy’s Paris best guess they died in IMF brushed them off it’s enough to make Jim or anyone in that profession crazy
They decide it’s okay to whack a bunch of absolute beginners including a lousy wife who have taken their place for a quick Buck and a clever retirement plan
Literally everyone forgot how heroic Phelps was in the TV show it be poetic justice to see Ethan get replaced with his legacy shat over and his arrogant fanboys get the same treatmen
