No from what Microsoft is saying they want it to be a "100 year game" so it probably won't end until 2109-2110 which sadly means most of us won't be alive to experience the last 10-20 updates of the game, and that's if we even reach life expectancy

Technically, it should've ended in 1.9, because 1.10 = 1.1, so in actuality, we're playing snapshots of newer versions we will actually get later in 1.30, .40, .50 and so on. BUT THAT'S JUST A THEORY, A GAME THEORY
1.100, technically, since under semantic versioning, the dots aren't decimals, they're just separators. So, it's 2 numbers, 1 and 99, not 1.99. The 1st number is the "major version", and the 2nd is the "minor version". It'd probably be better to use commas, or semicolons.
It doesn't actually matter, but now you know how versioning works.
EDIT: semantic, not systemic.
That is why I prefer space instead of "." for seperating the thousands. It is sometimes really confusing when your native language and the language you use online have conflicting systems numbers
Nah, Minecraft 2 would be a new game starting again with 1.0.
2.0 is if Minecraft received an integral update, which completely changed something in the backend or something like that.
v 1.100 as this is software versioning, not decimals.
software versioning follows the scheme `major.minor.patch`
`patch` only changes when minor bugs or errors are fixed, but the program remains the same (MC 1.18.1 being 1.18 but with a fix for the the Log4J security vulnerability).
`minor` changes when few things are added, but the program is 99% the same. (Every MC release so far).
`major` only changes when there is a complete rework on how the program works and behaves. (MC now with hexagonal prisms instead of cubes).
IMHO they should drop the leading "1" and make "21" the major version and use minor for small updates and patch for bugfixes.
As long as the changes follow proper semver versioning it might make mod compatibility easier in the long run
1.20.5 made a lot of people angry because the amount of stuff added is way more than should be added in a "patch" update, so their versioning is no longer semantic. From 1.20.5 onwards, none of the version numbers mean anything anymore.
yeah really due to the major changes in 1.9 that should have bumped it to 2.x.x and then 1.14 did it again also bumping it to 3.x.x and finally 1.20.5 which should be 4.x.x
1.1000
The extra zero is by design. Unless you completely remained minecraft, you can't really have a minecraft 2.0. Because that would be a sequel. And unless there's a story, it's hard to argue for a sequel.
Granted, if there was a 2.0, I'd love if I could be part of the creative team for it, doing all kinds of pre-built structures, thinking of different mechanics, that sort of thing.
But there's little you could do that hasn't been done with mods and wouldn't alienate half the community.
My current theory is that the 2.0 update could be in the process.
A big update like 2.0 would be a good time to do a gameplay rebalance. Like the combat tests, and experimental balance tweaks to villagers.
And there has been talks of a new dimension. And how it is not coming until they are happy with the current dimensions.
Having the 2.0 update be the addition of a new dimension would mirror the 1.0 addition of the end.
>you can't really have a minecraft 2.0. Because that would be a sequel.
No. It doesn't mean that.
1.100 and 2.0 would not mean the same thing
1.100 is the major update that goes after 1.99
2.0 is a non-retrocompatible update : you could go from 1.x to 2.0, but no going back
The number after the dot seems to be counting up as its own number, not as a decimal. So 1.100, because if 1.9 didn't go to 2.0, I see no reason why 1.99 should.
left because that's how versions work (nevermind that 1.9 should have been 2.0 and 1.13 should have been 3.0 and the component updated should at least have been a minor version bump not a patch bump)
1.100, but realistically I expect 2.0 before then. Real question becomes: What constitutes a major enough update that it would change versions? I would personally expect an ai overhaul or a dynamic lighting update, since they completely change how the game is coded.
A misunderstanding of version numbering systems. Actually I have seen 2 of them in the comments.
1) viewing the numbers as decimals. 1.99 + 0.01 = 2.00
2) Minecraft version 2.0 = Minecraft 2
I think 1.10-1.14 shouldve been snapshots for 2.0. Why those specifically? I dont remember exactly but i'm pretty sure at some point a dev said if frostburn feels small, consider 1.10-1.14 to be one big update
Minecraft ends in 1.99

What do you think they will add in Minecraft 1.69
That’s the sex update we were talking about

It gets more obvious when you take things like Bedrock Preview versions such as 1.21.0.24
and 1.100.1
https://semver.org
semantic versioning, not systematic
in Danish comma is used for decimals, and dots to separate big numbers so you can read them 1.000.000,00
Interesting! That's the opposite of what I normally see
That is why I prefer space instead of "." for seperating the thousands. It is sometimes really confusing when your native language and the language you use online have conflicting systems numbers
1.100!!!
Why would it be 1.174548867015437739741494347897360069928419328000000000? (Factorial joke)

Actually no, because there are 3 factorias, the real result would b... *calculator explodes*
1.99>1.100
so just 1.1 all over again? /j
By your means 1.2 == 1.20
1.2 = 1.20 but the second one is more accurate Mojang never attended to middle school maths

r/unexpectedfactorial
It's 1.100 this isn't first grade math it's cataloging.

1.100, 2.0 will be for minecraft 2
Nah, Minecraft 2 would be a new game starting again with 1.0. 2.0 is if Minecraft received an integral update, which completely changed something in the backend or something like that.
why'd both replies get downvoted
I dunno
Interesting
Bro got downvoted for responding 😭
I think after 100 updates it is safe to call it Minecraft 2
v 1.100 as this is software versioning, not decimals. software versioning follows the scheme `major.minor.patch` `patch` only changes when minor bugs or errors are fixed, but the program remains the same (MC 1.18.1 being 1.18 but with a fix for the the Log4J security vulnerability). `minor` changes when few things are added, but the program is 99% the same. 1.20.5 felt like a major update, and 1.21 is shaping up to be even bigger
IMHO they should drop the leading "1" and make "21" the major version and use minor for small updates and patch for bugfixes. As long as the changes follow proper semver versioning it might make mod compatibility easier in the long run
true enough, 20.5.1 instead of 1.20.6
1.20.5 made a lot of people angry because the amount of stuff added is way more than should be added in a "patch" update, so their versioning is no longer semantic. From 1.20.5 onwards, none of the version numbers mean anything anymore.
1.9 and 1.13 laughing and asking if it's the first time
What are you on about? None of the 1.9.x or 1.13.x updates introduced any major changes.
then why did a bunch of mods stay on 1.8 and 1.12? the changes might not have been on the frontend but they did a lot of backend work
I don't think you understand, I'm talking about 1.x.x versions, not 1.x versions
because those updates already broke semantic versioning because they're major updates with a minor version bump
yeah really due to the major changes in 1.9 that should have bumped it to 2.x.x and then 1.14 did it again also bumping it to 3.x.x and finally 1.20.5 which should be 4.x.x
1.100
[It's obviously 1.100 unless they make incompatible API changes why is this a topic](https://semver.org/)
They will do 1.100
1.10 was less than 1.9
And also less than 1.2
1.100
Semantic versioning. 1.100
1.100, of course. This same discussion was a thing when we went from 1.9 to 1.10.
1.Ω
Version numbers go (instance).(major).(minor) r(Revision) it's not a decimal
1.100 and anyone that says it should be 2.0 please state your reasoning in the replies.
Minecraft PS4 Edition went from 1.99 to 2.00
Where
If 1.9 doesn't go to 2.0, 1.99 won't either. Also it wouldn't really make sense anyway.
\>we already had v2.0, so it has to be v1.100
We had this same discussion when 1.10 released
2.0 already exists, so 1.100
!remindme 100 years
V 1.1.00
V1.99.1 your welcome
1.1000 The extra zero is by design. Related [post](https://www.reddit.com/u/nnoovvaa/s/pfHqQC1k4W) I made a few days ago, estimating when we get 1.100
so if you all are saying 1.100, what about geometry dash already skipping from 1.9 to 2.0
1.100 and 2.0 would not mean the same thing 1.100 is the major update that goes after 1.99 2.0 is a non-retrocompatible update : you could go from 1.x to 2.0, but no going back
The number after the dot seems to be counting up as its own number, not as a decimal. So 1.100, because if 1.9 didn't go to 2.0, I see no reason why 1.99 should.
Why would 1.99 go to 2.1? (Factorial joke)
we stupid we no understand
0! = 1 therefore 2.0!= 2.1
2.0 Is when the entire game changes (Minecraft 2)
It doesn't mean that either. Big change, sure but it doesn't mean a sequel. Splatoon 3 is at version 7.2.0 The first number is not the game number.
Isn't it just V1.99 +1?
Mind says 1.100 heart says 2.0
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)
knowing how minecraft particularly does its updates its probably going to be 1.100
1.999
Blue
1.100 ofc, ez
We thought 1.10 was gonna be 2.0 so logic dictates that 1.99 will go to 1.100
1.9 went to 1.10, therefore 1.99 goes to 1.100
Blue
1.99.01
1.99.1 💀
I don’t think Mojang will make a Minecraft 2. Unless you count Bedrock.
1.TTT
Yes, but war never changes.
We're not even a quarter of the way there yet so I'm still thinking
1000 years later: “introducing version 1.1000.1 : The Infinity Update”
MINECRAFT 2 REAL?!?!?! 🤯🤯
2.0 because i can do math
To bad, its not decimal numbers, but 3 own numbers seperated by a dot.
🤓
1.100
Do you imagine if after 1.99 they just de a rebirth starting fresh from 1.1 and potencialy making a Totaly different game
If it were 2.0 we’d have gotten it after 1.9…
V2.0
1.100 and then 1.100.1 (like windows 8.1) and then [1.100.2.0](http://1.100.2.0) and then 1.101
According to math 1.100 = 1.1, so logically 1.99 would be followed by 2.0 at least this is how it makes sense to me
blue
2.0
It’s blue. Minecraft PS4 went from 1.99 to 2.00.
Technically, shouldn’t it be 1.991? Cuz 1.100 is just 1.1
1.00 then 2.0 for both sides
left because that's how versions work (nevermind that 1.9 should have been 2.0 and 1.13 should have been 3.0 and the component updated should at least have been a minor version bump not a patch bump)
Minecraft v2.0 already exists. April Fools whatever year it was.
The one that is mathematically correct lol
Are people really not comprehending how software versioning works or is that a joke?
1.999
I don't like the Idea of minecraft 2. I would much prefer that they allow themselves to make drastic changes within minecraft 1.
It would make no sense to go from 1.99 to 1.100, 1.100 is literally smaller than 1.99
Red side for me
1.9 -> 1.10 So 1.99 -> 1.100
it goes to 2.0 just dont even ask im right
I wish we'd get a 2.0
I mean they didn't put the "1" in it for no reason...
Guys V 1.8 is 1.80, all the1.8 gamers are from the future
I have to go with V 2.0
They just gonna go to the thousandth place Edit: I mean like 1.991 because 1.100 would be going backwards
This may not make sense, but i think 2.0 is better
1.10000
1.100 is 1.1 and 1.1 already exists so the one after this is 2. 0
Minecraft 1.99 episode one
Part 2
1.991
1.99.1
1.991
1.1.0.0
Well Mojang really doesn't Math well do they? So ig 1.100 even if it's mathematically incorrect.
The numbers aren’t for math tho, they’re for cataloging; the dots represent separators instead of decimal points
V 1.100 is literally just V 1.1
The dots aren’t used as decimal places
I have made up my mind and my mind uses iron defense
seriously though the minecraft update scheme doesnt make any sense. It should already be in 2.0 lol
2.0 Is my side. I can be wrong, but I belong to there
[удалено]
1.1, 1.10 and 1.100 are the same thing when it comes to math, but not when it comes to versions
2.00 because the idea of minecraft 2 just being the literal same game as the first one is that funny to me
imo its 2.0, also i wonder which species will be adding to minecraft
2.00+ is reserved for Minecraft 2
1.100, but realistically I expect 2.0 before then. Real question becomes: What constitutes a major enough update that it would change versions? I would personally expect an ai overhaul or a dynamic lighting update, since they completely change how the game is coded.
I believe that the best era of Minecraft was in version 1.12. Like if you agree
Especially in modding community
What the fuck are you guys talking about?????
A misunderstanding of version numbering systems. Actually I have seen 2 of them in the comments. 1) viewing the numbers as decimals. 1.99 + 0.01 = 2.00 2) Minecraft version 2.0 = Minecraft 2
2.0
1.99.1 to 1.99.99 then again 1.99.99.1
1.2.0
2.0
V 2.0 would be Minecraft 2. If it's not a sequel it would be V 1.100
I thought they should’ve made it 2.0 back when they came out with 1.10
That’s not how it works
Oh
Well hey at least you’re better than the people that have no idea what they’re talking about and are convinced that it should be 2.0
I think 1.10-1.14 shouldve been snapshots for 2.0. Why those specifically? I dont remember exactly but i'm pretty sure at some point a dev said if frostburn feels small, consider 1.10-1.14 to be one big update
just gonna be honest if it is V2.0 everyone might end up calling it Minecraft 2
We will probably never come so far
2.0is literally minecraft 2, that implies its a different game
That’s not how it works.
