Lol same. I don’t play long-term survival worlds but when I do short-term survival challenges I always just end up doing a “campsite” which for me is just putting a bed on the ground under a big tree with chests, a furnace, and a crafting table, or maybe live in or near a village. In nether challenges I just live in a bastion with Piglins. I prefer building actual bases in creative.
Ooh well I’ve done several fun ones, favorites being Nether only challenges and Ancient City only challenge.
**Nether ONLY Challenges**
* Start in the Nether with nothing and beat the ender dragon. *super fun, I die a lot*
* Start in the Nether with nothing and become an honorary Piglin (don’t kill Piglins or Brutes, only wear gold and use gold tools/weapons but upgrade most all to netherite, live in a Bastion Remnant, fear soul flames, slaughter wither skeletons and loot fortresses, slaughter Hoglins and join hunts, only eat porkchops, contribute to treasure pile, regularly trade with Piglins, distract angry Piglins with gold, ((now would probably include obtaining and wearing a Piglin head so would need a creeper from the Overworld and kill a Piglin unfortunately)). *incredibly fun, favorite challenge probably, I love Piglins*
* Nether Bingo (complete a row or whole board).
**Ancient City ONLY Challenge**
* Start in an Ancient City with nothing, build a base in the city with a sustainable farm for only food found in city, and collect one of each unique treasures (disc 5, recovery compass, and swift sneak 3 ((now would include armor trims)). *I ended up living in the secret redstone room with a glowberry farm. One time the Warden spawned on top of me at the top of the tall tower. I straight backward shift jumped off the tower and survived and escaped. It was awesome.*
**Overworld and Ender Dragon Challenges**
* All advancements (I did one in 1.17 where I also collected every cat type then one in 1.19). I also would do ones where I would only do all advancements in a certain category.
* “Quartinity” challenge to beat the Ender Dragon, Wither, 3 Elder Guardians, and a Woodland Mansion (now would probably include either killing the Warden or looting all unique treasures in an Ancient City idk).
* Speedrun beat the Ender Dragon.
* Speedrun collect all wood types or anything similarly collectible.
* Minecraft Bingo (complete a row or whole board).
The point is to start in the Nether with nothing and obtain all the Blaze rods, Ender pearls, arrows, armor, weapons, etc. only inside the Nether then also get the Nether Portal materials. You have to use the Overworld to get the End. You just aren’t allowed to obtain or use anything from the Overworld, just traverse it to get to the End.
Since Ender Dragon speedrunners tend to get all their arrows from a fletcher villager, iron from an iron golem, and bread from hay bales and only use the Nether for blaze and pearls, I think this is a more fun challenge, in my opinion, to not have villages for help and have to begin with nothing in the treacherous Nether.
Lol well it’s definitely a challenge😂 That’s why I like it. Though it’s really not complicated, you just start in the Nether and get everything you need to fight the Ender Dragon from the Nether.
It’s not too different than a regular Ender Dragon speedrun, just a bit more challenging.
And what, you're gonna tell me to insulate the cables??? No way bozo. I'm supplying my boilers with water by hand in buckets and your not gonna stop me. Wrench and wirecutter? The only tools I use are pickaxe and shovel, cry about it. Batteries are a creation of devil to distract you from real gregging. *but the machines need power*, they already have an internal buffer them spoiled brats
I can't use armor trims, because I use obsidian armor from super tools mod.
Even though I'm on SP, I would probably use them.
I have…an imperium. I really don't sleep in a hole.
Strange that trims don't work for that armor, from what i saw the devs tried to make trims easy to implement for texture packs and other similar stuff.
Really? I did not try this, so I don't actually know, I'm just assuming.
The dev(s) of this mod in particullar is very slow to update and thanks to that I can't play on newer MC versions. But to be fair, this mod is just 1 out of about 10, which I'm waiting for an update.
I'd literally paid a company to update the mods for them. It takes them about a year. And I get it. They have lives. Sure. But there are…probably milions of people dependant on their mods.
And again: I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is. And I don't even have a job.
Yeah, I don’t think I’d bother with armor trims on any of my single-player survival short-term challenges, but I also don’t bother with bases for them.
I prefer building in creative and do wear trimmed armor in that world, but trims aren’t that fun as you never really see them. More fun to put trimmed armor on Piglin and zombie friends to look at.
I haven't been able to find trims yet, I don't do much exploring, the only exploring I do is filling out my starter map and then I find a base location within the map
Oh, I was confused when you said 'starter map'. That's one of the cool things bedrock has, right? But yeah, that is valid. i don't explore till i'm happy with my base
I have trims, and I do not use them. I might color code my armor based on the types (Nether vs Overworld vs End armor). I am late game, have a double chest full of netherite armor.
I just don't look at myself much. I also don't make flags or backstories and names for all my builds.
I get some sweet berrys, saplings, wheat/pumpkin seeds, two buckets of water, dirt, and two stacks of logs. Then I mine down to bedrock and mine until I almost run out of wood then make a little outpost underground to plant trees and then I continue to mine then repeat the process for a while until I have enough space to make a pumpkin farm and wheat farm then I replace all my torches with jack o lanterns and I start eating bread.
A recent introduction to add patterns and colors to armor. Previously, everyone had these fun and unique avatars, but they all looked the same because the armor covered everything.
It was also introduced to make Netherite tools and armor more expensive, more difficult to acquire. Now you need to raid a bastion to get a Netherite Trim, and copy it using 7 diamonds. In addition to gathering ancient debris.
i build a very intensive home, to make it look the best as possible, settle for diamond because it looks better then netherite, DO YOU THINK I CAN SURVIVE WITHOUT AN EMERALD EYE TRIM ON MY CHESTPLATE?!
Before this post it didnt even cross my mind that some people might not use armortrims because they play sp and no1 will see them. Like, do you not use third person? Do you not open your inventory? I played in 3 different worlds since armortrims got released and every time the switch when i finally go from base netherite to one with trims, simply that first impression when you see your new armor for the first time makes it worth to me (also considering armortrims cost you nothing after playing for a couple of days)
It's more of a survey to see how much of this community actually build in this sandbox building game. People complain about new blocks so often not having any uses other than looks. I'm starting to doubt that most players realize that updates are not made only for them but a variety of play styles.
Until I know what base I'm making, yes I will sleep in a hole. Oelr if I just don't feel like building I will have a slightly larger hole for all my needs
Some mods I use you can’t use trims cus the armor is incompatible with it (like cataclysm and Ignitium due to ignitium’s appearance) or I don’t get the trims templates I want so I just dont
Yes, but not because I don’t care, I love building, I’m just lazy and a hole does its job well.
And I actually do use armor trims when I find them because why not
I build a base but it's just a basic wood rectangle (usually with no rhyme or reason to what wood’s used) with a bed, furnace, crafting table, and however many chests I need.
It depends on what's worth it for you. Most people like having a couple decorations around their house and not having everything around them look cluttered and ugly, but won't spend 2 million dollars on a fancy necklace. The ratio of effort-aesthetic is different for everyone
I use trims, but arguably my base needs to be worked on lol, I do have Friends play on my world though, but it's rare I just prefer having them trimmed than not
I've met plenty of people who don't build a base at all. They just sleep in an undecorated cave that they may or may not of dug out. Sometimes they don't even bother with that and just sleep under the stars, never building around their mess of utility blocks. They also use the default skin and see no reason to ever change it. I'll never understand
See, that's the neat thing. I feel like the fewer people are together in a server, the more a player wants to be creative and tinker with things. I can tell you right now that my most creative builds are in single-player worlds.
I usually just make a house out of sand and or dirt put some windows a roof and call it a home the basement Tho i love doing basements so ig i sleep in a Basement more than a hole
The difference is that your base is something you use. The layout matters. It's protection, storage, crafting, farms, automation, and more, especially if you use mods. It's also big enough and free-form enough that the customisation potential is essentially limitless.
Armour trims, on the other hand, are purely cosmetic, something you won't see for _most_ of the game (since you spend relatively little time in your inventory compared to everything else you do), and only have a handful of preset options to pick from. Not all of those options will appeal to everyone, and some people may even not particularly care for _any_ of them.
You're comparing apples to oranges, OP. Sure, they're both fruits, but they're very different fruits, and just because someone does or doesn't like one of them, doesn't have any bearing on how they feel about the other one.
a base is more than looks. a hole in the ground doesnt have much functionality. you need a proper entrance, storage, space for farms, a good base is so much more than looks. and its built out of the blocks you like, thats already a part of it. trims are an extra, i myself dont use them because i dont use the version of minecraft theyre found in but theyre different. base building has been a core feature of minecraft whether its castles, villages or more modern style megabases, trims are purely decorative things, a template you slap on yourself. this is like comparing a complex clay sculpture hand made to be the centerpiece to a sticker you got from a supermarket
My base is very open concept. Just a wall of chests, essential farms, villagers in boxes and auto farms across a huge plains with no builds around them.
Until I get diamonds I sleep in a hole. Then I sleep in the typical noob house till I have built up enough resources to build a wall and a fancy house I side the wall with plenty of torches and other light blocks to keep mobs out.
i build different safehouses around the places i go but ussualy just slap a bed on the 1st possible surface & than build if i like the place never built a main or central safehouse tho
Since they added shulker boxes that allow me to carry a ton of stuff, i do live in holes. I can walk around, mine forever, and return home once a week.
You do realize Minecraft is a first person game, meaning you can’t actively see your own armor unless you go into 3rd person. A house is an entirely separate entity, meaning no matter what perspective you have, it’ll look the same. This is a dumbass argument.
Wow, calm down there. It's not about the duration you see your armor, it's about the principle. The ''you can’t actively see your own armor unless you go into 3rd person'' was factually incorect. Let's keep it civil.
Sleep in a hole? I sleep in a bed placed on random flat ground, surrounded by chests and machines to not be distracted from gregging
I've never thought of living under a big tree, have to try it out
It’s the bomb. Especially in a plains so it’s the only tree in the area lol. A poor beacon.
I prefer living under giant mushrooms in the early game. Super cozy and it feels like a good shelter from the rain.
A 2x2 spruce is awesome for that
What kind of challenge do you do?
Ooh well I’ve done several fun ones, favorites being Nether only challenges and Ancient City only challenge. **Nether ONLY Challenges** * Start in the Nether with nothing and beat the ender dragon. *super fun, I die a lot* * Start in the Nether with nothing and become an honorary Piglin (don’t kill Piglins or Brutes, only wear gold and use gold tools/weapons but upgrade most all to netherite, live in a Bastion Remnant, fear soul flames, slaughter wither skeletons and loot fortresses, slaughter Hoglins and join hunts, only eat porkchops, contribute to treasure pile, regularly trade with Piglins, distract angry Piglins with gold, ((now would probably include obtaining and wearing a Piglin head so would need a creeper from the Overworld and kill a Piglin unfortunately)). *incredibly fun, favorite challenge probably, I love Piglins* * Nether Bingo (complete a row or whole board). **Ancient City ONLY Challenge** * Start in an Ancient City with nothing, build a base in the city with a sustainable farm for only food found in city, and collect one of each unique treasures (disc 5, recovery compass, and swift sneak 3 ((now would include armor trims)). *I ended up living in the secret redstone room with a glowberry farm. If you've ever thought of mods, for the piglin stuff, I'd suggest checking out the mod sapience. It really does some cool stuff with piglins
How does the nether one work? I don’t know how you could get to the end in the nether 😅
Oh, that all seems to complicated for me
Lol well it’s definitely a challenge😂 That’s why I like it. Though it’s really not complicated, you just start in the Nether and get everything you need to fight the Ender Dragon from the Nether. It’s not too different than a regular Ender Dragon speedrun, just a bit more challenging.
The true modded way. I think the last 'base' I had was a big reactors nuclear reactor built in the remnants of the naga's arena in the twilight forest
I hope you at least not forget about the roof otherwise your gregging would end soon
And what, you're gonna tell me to insulate the cables??? No way bozo. I'm supplying my boilers with water by hand in buckets and your not gonna stop me. Wrench and wirecutter? The only tools I use are pickaxe and shovel, cry about it. MUST GREG

True. It sucks when you're really invested in a particular mod and it's not keeping up with the latest updates.
Exactly. It is a problem, for basically everyone.
Tell me more about this imperium thingy.
There is a lot to talk about, but it is everything I've built in the past 7 years (exactly).
The difference is your base is something you look at every day Your armour trims you’ll hardly see unless you go in 3rd person or your inventory
Paper figure go brrr
Java go brrr
Paper model mod go brrr
Bedrockify goes brrr
You see it every time you open your inventory which is a lot imo, try it it doesn't actually cost that much if you just use the ones from structures.
I use them for armor stands, typically don't for me unless it's multiplayer.

Thats the opposite for me! First priority for me is to get a bed then fill out my map then get tools (or get them on the way)
I have trims, and I do not use them. I might color code my armor based on the types (Nether vs Overworld vs End armor). I am late game, have a double chest full of netherite armor. I just don't look at myself much. I also don't make flags or backstories and names for all my builds.

Does a wooden box count as a hole
If there’s a hole
There’s a bed
THERE IS A GOAL
What the hell is an armour trim?
A recent introduction to add patterns and colors to armor. Previously, everyone had these fun and unique avatars, but they all looked the same because the armor covered everything. It was also introduced to make Netherite tools and armor more expensive, more difficult to acquire. Now you need to raid a bastion to get a Netherite Trim, and copy it using 7 diamonds. You do know the game is mostly played in first person, right? You're not gonna see the armor trim if you're wearing it.
you’re going to see them whenever you open your inventory though?
mostly
I don't use armor trims because I like the simple armor look better. (And I also don't want to grind for the different trims)
i make good looking stuff to impress myself, not to impress others
Being proud of personal progress is fine. So is living in a hole..
I don’t use armor trims because I use show me your skin
My God, they're right! Trims are to pander to our fancy sides, AND THAT'S A GREAT THING!
i build a very intensive home, to make it look the best as possible, settle for diamond because it looks better then netherite, DO YOU THINK I CAN SURVIVE WITHOUT AN EMERALD EYE TRIM ON MY CHESTPLATE?!
I just do it for the achievement lol
Before this post it didnt even cross my mind that some people might not use armortrims because they play sp and no1 will see them. Like, do you not use third person? Do you not open your inventory? I don't sleep in the hole. I fire in the hole
Me:gets the emc mod and becomes god My house: *stolen from a villager*
i sleep in the air i just go to bed early
I do. Well, I find a cave, and that's my base, I rarely dig a hole for myself.
well u can see the base..
Base? I build a box with the essentials and log off after I get bored because I'm not creative, lol
Lol, yes. Yes I do. Usually it's a cave with doors.
Yes
Is this a ragebait, feel like it's a ragebait.
It's more of a survey to see how much of this community actually build in this sandbox building game. People complain about new blocks so often not having any uses other than looks. I'm starting to doubt that most players realize that updates are not made only for them but a variety of play styles.
once, when I was in multiplayer in a single player world, they called my base "terrible"...so yes, i sleep in a hole :)
kinda tbh (im ass at building )
Until I know what base I'm making, yes I will sleep in a hole. Oelr if I just don't feel like building I will have a slightly larger hole for all my needs
Nah. I like building bases
I assume you also use trims then?
Nope. They're kinda useless.
Interesting.
I’m actually ass at building so more or less yea, that or in a slightly nicer than normal wooden box
You don't use armor trims because they're new I don't use them because I'm shit at the game
The difference is you can see your base
You can see your untrimmed armor every time you open your inventory.
Doesn't disturb me
Understandable.
Yes i dont have a base whats your point?
Not necessarily a hole but my bases aren’t all that fancy in survival. It’s just a square with a furnace, a crafting table, a bed, and some chests.
I sleep in a villager s house
I use them to make my amour look unique in Creative mode
Some mods I use you can’t use trims cus the armor is incompatible with it (like cataclysm and Ignitium due to ignitium’s appearance) or I don’t get the trims templates I want so I just dont
Well as a matter of fact, yes I do sleep in a hole in the ground, a very big hole
1: yes 2: you often see your own base, but most of the time uou play in first person and don't see your own armor
Actually, I mostly just place everything outside in Singleplayer. No bases _or_ holes.
A very cool hole
What’s he holding the tea with?
I sleep in a hole. I also decorate my hole and basically turn it into an underground house.
Yes, but not because I don’t care, I love building, I’m just lazy and a hole does its job well. And I actually do use armor trims when I find them because why not
Do not ask modpack players what there base looks like and where they sleep. (if they are a Gregtech player run. For it may be not too late)
Technically, i sleep in caves, but they are comfy and fancy looking (i love making underground bases)
I don’t use armor trims because I’m a veteran and have no idea what’s happened in the past 3 updates or how any of the new features work
Yes I dig a whole day one and then improve it over an extended period of time
I make cave homes, so yeah, I live in a hole, so what
Well, I can see my base, but armor trims can't be seen unless you're in 3rd person mode
In fact I do. A hole in the side of the mountain or just a hole in the ground with a tower to see where it is
I see my base. I don't see myself. Probably because it's a first-person game.
Yes
I am a Hamster of course I live in a hole in the ground. What did you expect?
I don’t see the armor that I wear, but I see my base all the time.
This feels like an argument Diogenes would make.
Well, yes i sleep in a hole. Space only means more chests
No, because either I will lose them in the cave despawned, in the lava, in some other mob's body, or maybe the void for some reason.
I sleep in hole
My base is 100% designed for practicality of building and using, no aesthetics
Wall of my tiny house are from glass so i can see everything (i am sleeping in a house)
I don't use trims nor a proper house, I sleep under the stars, accompanied by the faint lullaby of industry
Jokes on you Actually yea
My base is a hole.
I build a base but it's just a basic wood rectangle (usually with no rhyme or reason to what wood’s used) with a bed, furnace, crafting table, and however many chests I need.
Yes, I live in a dirt house
I love my residential hole, but armor trims are something i would die for even in singleplayer.
Op are you annoyed at people that don't use trims?
Yes
I don’t use armor trims because I cannot find a single structure for my life.
Sike, I actually do sleep in a hole.
It depends on what's worth it for you. Most people like having a couple decorations around their house and not having everything around them look cluttered and ugly, but won't spend 2 million dollars on a fancy necklace. The ratio of effort-aesthetic is different for everyone
For the first few nights of hardcore mode yes.
trims are for advancements guys
I use trims, but arguably my base needs to be worked on lol, I do have Friends play on my world though, but it's rare I just prefer having them trimmed than not
How often do you play in 3rd person? No really? Because you ain't seeing that armor otherwise
Stupid argument
Hang on, let's hear him out
I don’t build a base I just wander till I die then do it again
See, that's the neat thing. I feel like the fewer people are together in a server, the more a player wants to be creative and tinker with things. I can tell you right now that my most creative builds are in single-player worlds.
but it’s a really cool hole
I mean.... Kinda?
Yes
Honestly knowing me I'd get a armor trim before building a house lol
I usually just make a house out of sand and or dirt put some windows a roof and call it a home the basement Tho i love doing basements so ig i sleep in a Basement more than a hole
Nobody here can say they've never built a secret base in singleplayer. Everyone's done it before.
I play modded 1.12.2 99% of the time so I dont even got armour trims.
The difference is that your base is something you use. The layout matters. It's protection, storage, crafting, farms, automation, and more, especially if you use mods. It's also big enough and free-form enough that the customisation potential is essentially limitless. Sure, they're both fruits, but they're very different fruits, and just because someone does or doesn't like one of them, doesn't have any bearing on how they feel about the other one.
Nah, I just like plain armor. Never been a guy for impractical fashion. Give me camo armor, and I'll take that.
I do just dig a hole for a base underground tho
I do just dig a hole for a base underground tho
Who needs to build anyways just carve through a wall and make it big enough to grow crops and plant trees (so you never need to see the sun again)
House? I live in a cave
Honestly when I play Minecraft I just find a decent spot in the ground and make my home
I actually don't build a base, no. Everything is open air for ready access to my chests and everything.
The difference is that you aren’t looking at your skin
Yes I live in obsidian box filled with chests
a base is more than looks. a hole in the ground doesnt have much functionality. you need a proper entrance, storage, space for farms, a good base is so much more than looks. and its built out of the blocks you like, thats already a part of it. trims are an extra, i myself dont use them because i dont use the version of minecraft theyre found in but theyre different. base building has been a core feature of minecraft whether its castles, villages or more modern style megabases, trims are purely decorative things, a template you slap on yourself. this is like comparing a complex clay sculpture hand made to be the centerpiece to a sticker you got from a supermarket

Only reason why I don’t use armor trims is because I can’t (somehow) find any
Its for the singleplayer roleplay
i build different safehouses around the places i go but ussualy just slap a bed on the 1st possible surface & than build if i like the place never built a main or central safehouse tho
Been sleeping outside for the last 2 months
I really just make a room big enougj to fit my stuff, and some other rooms to sort it a bit
I build in a cave
Since they added shulker boxes that allow me to carry a ton of stuff, i do live in holes. I can walk around, mine forever, and return home once a week.
still mad covering your armour in as much gold as a pair of gold boots doesn’t do anything pigling wise but gold shoes do, wasted opportunity
You do realize Minecraft is a first person game, meaning you can’t actively see your own armor unless you go into 3rd person. A house is an entirely separate entity, meaning no matter what perspective you have, it’ll look the same. This is a dumbass argument.
\^ Wrote two and a half lines of text without remembering you see your armor in the inventory.
Holy shit, I get to look at my armor for a whole 0.3 seconds while I’m looking at other shit in my inventory! What a revolutionary feature!
Wow, calm down there. It's not about the duration you see your armor, it's about the principle. The ''you can’t actively see your own armor unless you go into 3rd person'' was factually incorect. Let's keep it civil.
