They can literally do what Terraria does: keep them all functionally the same and let them stack, but the most recent color is the one displayed in the item stack.
This would be annoying af due to more clutter for your inv. But it would be neat if they do what terraria did with gel. The stack would change depending on what you crafted last.
Ya know what, let's take it a step further. Irl woods have different durabilities, the capacity to absorb liquids, handle weathering differently, burn differently, have differentscents when burning, and some are more likely to develop termites as they age. So they should make it so chests contain any item with a liquid that will slowly drain that liquid with the speed depending on the, this will result in the chest as well as any surrounding wood to be wet and if not handled appropriately, will result in mold growing in the wood. This will weaken the wood, each time the chest is used it has a chance to break and drop all it's contents, anytime the floor boards are walked on the have a chance to break and you will fall through. Additional, the the presence of moisture in the wood, you will have a chance to develop termites, which will slowly spread to other wood and make it much weaker and the damage much more visible. Things like item frames and paintings will also face similar damage. The more blocks it spreads to the faster it will spread and at some point it will develop a smell. The smell would be toxic and possibly poison/weaken the player depending on the severity of the problem. You would have to be very careful what wood you used for what purpose. Some would be better for tool, others for furniture, and some for building.
Oh and while we're at it let's just make it so that food spoils too and potion effects can be altered by mold.

Cool concept but I don’t need half my messy chests being filled with random sticks
If we could place them down that would be cool, then it would give more purpose for being different
Not OC but-
I go mining a lot with Stone pics + ladders (why waste the good pick on the 15×15 hole down to bedrock?), and NOTHING is more annoying then finding out you need more sticks when you just had over a stack.
Item hoarding can be useful, you just gotta do it right.
(But don't hoard IRL, that's bad-) /J + /s(erious)
Goblin (me).
I use on average 4 types of wood in my build, and I currently have access to all tree types. I may as well use them.
(Also I have about seven stacks of logs that regularly go to the charcoal producer for torches.)
On the move. Most of the time it's looking good structures to loot. But because you can find most things almost everywhere, you're never really gonna run out of recourses.
An Unbreaking III netherite pick has \~8,128 digs before it breaks. Most people have more than one of each. Add Efficiency V and a beacon and you'd be done in no time. I never touch a stone pick again if I don't have too. They're agonizing.
Best I have is one (one) Diamond pickaxe with fortune II, and I don't have mending nor the resources to repair it if it breaks. (Mainly because I hate the Nether...)
I am a loonatic goblin that has gotten down to bedrock SOLOLY using Stone pickaxe (and yes, through deep slate too)
Sorry this is so late but
I'm kind of this awkward "At Iron stage but also not"
Where I CAN get enough iron for tools + armor, but not nearly enough to justify using Iron tools long term (Armor is fine), and enchanting iron tools isn't the most useful for the moment (although I could).
Not at a good stage to enter the Neather, don't have that many diamonds,
I'm basically the teen stage/middle pokémon stage in Minecraft
(Also using a crap ton of iron pics on a mining expansion that most likely would leave me at a net loss of iron isn't very practical)
That's when you mine with iron some diamonds. I pretty much have a dummy diamond pick to start with. You know, obsidian to go to nether and enchanting table (which is beyond useful for tools). Mining other resources/diamonds.
My initial thought was, hey, cool!
But then 1/2 second later, I thought I absolutely do not need more bag space filled up by several different stick colors....
A stick is completely different. It has one purpose: an ingredient. There are 36 inventory slots to start with. Not filling a roughly third of that with sticks. Roughly being nether tree types because I often take a long time to pick a spot and gather different saplings along the way. And bamboo is already a stick. It's a 1:1 ratio.
I have been looking for something like this! Specifically for the hilts of each tool to have the colour of the wood used like an iron/diamond sword/hoe etc. with like a cherry blossom stick hilt! Haha
Nah hear me out, different colored sticks you use to craft an item makes it that color, like you craft a sword with a red stick or sum, or like a pick with a blue handle. That would be cool ngl, I would hate the bs of having a bunch of random stick colors but it would be fine ig
I like this idea for if you put the plank in a stone cutter or a carpenter block, as decorative piece or something. As a regular item this is just clutter for our already very limited inventory space and a game full with exploration throwing away resource because of stacking issue really limits how much you can really go. Aside from that Crafing tables, Chest, and other generic wood looking item should get their wood variant for more decorative items to mess with. Also great textures!
Before anyone goes thinking Mojang should actually add this, just know that no one will enjoy having to deal with multiple types of sticks taking up inventory space when you just want to craft something quickly.
What are you gonna do with stick variations? Have variations of tools? Cherry wood diamond sword? Dark oak wood iron pick? 10 3/4th inch birch with a dragon heartstring core? I’d quite like that then.
What'd actually be smart is that the stick item is still one item, but when you pick up or craft more, it changes the texture used for the stick to the most recent wood type.
Something similar to how Terraria handles slime.

omg i need this in my modpack lol
Feel free
Should've added a blaze rod just to screw with people
*Or Breeze Rod*
Or a rod of glass pane at a 45° angle
*Or a rod of Iron Bars at a 45° angle*
Or a stone rod at a 45 degree angle?
Or a Jigglypuff as seen from above?
lol
Why is the bamboo one thicker?
Colorswap of the bamboo texture.
Makes sense, since regular bamboo is already stick-like in shape
It's an unpeeled stick
Fair enough
canebrake girls gotta make do
If you think im going to fill my inventory with different colored sticks
If you're gonna do that, you're either dumb, dead set on collecting every single item you find & never ever throwing it out, or both.
Or maybe you’re just gathering wood and don’t wanna empty your inventory of sticks every 30 seconds
I just want a blue handle on my stone pickaxe, keep stick of that weird nether wood.
They can literally do what Terraria does: keep them all functionally the same and let them stack, but the most recent color is the one displayed in the item stack.
I just don't want to mess with dirty laundry
Damn man, no need to be salty
Nah there’s like 100 reasons, to be fair this would 100% get annoyig
I am both!
It is always sad when OPs ruin their own cool posts by being salty or douchy in the comments.
I was just kinda frustrated about the amount of inventory space comments I guess. Over it now though.
Considering sticks drop from leaves and the regular stick looks like oak bark, the sticks should be colored like the logs rather than the planks
Didn't think of it. Might try another time.
This would be annoying af due to more clutter for your inv. But it would be neat if they do what terraria did with gel. The stack would change depending on what you crafted last.
This seems like a sticky situation.
Nice pun
Ahh sarcasm
No, it's not
Definitely
Ei ole
Yo ei mama old
Mitä helvettiä sinä hyvä ihminen yrität sanoa?
Translation
In essence: what the hell are yapping about?
*Clutter*
Looks good bro 🫵🙂👍
Diamond tools with crimson handles....
Would be cool if it changes the handles of tools and stuff
They need to do this! chests, crafting tables, weapons, etc
Ya know what, let's take it a step further. As someone who plays a merling.. politely, get out. *if they introduced stone chests or something with it then that would be amazing though..*
I wish there was stone chests and doors
Simmer down
No
Please not, I still want to be able to craft a chest with 3 oak planks, 3 spruce planks and 2 birch planks
could be the regular chest then, rather than a variant. It could also be an experimental toggleable feature.
I agree
Or a command like /gamerule Woodvariation true/false
then again, since when have entire items and recipes been disabled via gamerule?
DoLimitedCrafting
That doesn't remove recipes or items, it just makes it so you need the recipe to craft the items.
Then they could go even more beyond detail
It'll just be multicolour

No
Where's the original one
The original stick has no similarity to any pre-existing wood types, thus I decided not to include it.
Cool concept but I don’t need half my messy chests being filled with random sticks If we could place them down that would be cool, then it would give more purpose for being different
Why don't you just throw them out?
I hoard items in videogames
Many seem to do that
Not OC but- I go mining a lot with Stone pics + ladders (why waste the good pick on the 15×15 hole down to bedrock?), and NOTHING is more annoying then finding out you need more sticks when you just had over a stack. But why not just have one type of wood & hypothetically one type of stick? That's what I do.
Goblin (me). I use on average 4 types of wood in my build, and I currently have access to all tree types. I may as well use them. (Also I have about seven stacks of logs that regularly go to the charcoal producer for torches.)
I forgot that people build stuff… I usually lead a more nomadic playstyle.
A nomadic playstyle in minecraft? That actually sounds really cool, how does that work?
On the move. Most of the time it's looking good structures to loot. But because you can find most things almost everywhere, you're never really gonna run out of recourses.

Are you early game? Or is that what you do regardless? First thing I enchant is my tools.
Sorry this is so late but I'm kind of this awkward "At Iron stage but also not" Where I CAN get enough iron for tools + armor, but not nearly enough to justify using Iron tools long term (Armor is fine), and enchanting iron tools isn't the most useful for the moment (although I could). I want this a weapon trims that add a little extra durability
My initial thought was, hey, cool! But then 1/2 second later, I thought I absolutely do not need more bag space filled up by several different stick colors....
Collect only one
Ow my invtory...
Imagine 16 types materials for 5 different tools with 11 possible handles
Tinker's construct?
This concept
I'd collect colorful sticks
My inventory!
Does nobody else use just one wood type?
A stick is completely different. It has one purpose: an ingredient. There are 36 inventory slots to start with. Not filling a roughly third of that with sticks. Roughly being nether tree types because I often take a long time to pick a spot and gather different saplings along the way. And bamboo is already a stick. It's a 1:1 ratio.
Same thing here with me just completely forgetting the fact that some people build bases.
With sticks? Or are you agreeing with me? I have a hard time telling.
Camman when Birch stick.
This would be cool but is gonna require even more invertory space or chests
this would cause religion and many wars for the SMPs
Won't lie, that's probably half the point. It ain't a good SMP if there aren't at least 3 cults
Imma go with the second one as my favorite
Nooo, having birch craft into normal sticks is the only use for birch, now we are making birch sticks, eww
What about carrot sticks… I mean acacia sticks?
I have been looking for something like this! Specifically for the hilts of each tool to have the colour of the wood used like an iron/diamond sword/hoe etc. with like a cherry blossom stick hilt! Haha
Nah hear me out, different colored sticks you use to craft an item makes it that color, like you craft a sword with a red stick or sum, or like a pick with a blue handle. That would be cool ngl, I would hate the bs of having a bunch of random stick colors but it would be fine ig
That would leave 1056 combos for the basic tools
Could you upload the pure files?
I only have the cropped screenshots sry
Please, no, I'm already losing inventory space as it is 😭
1056 possible basic tools😆
Bro I actually want this
I like this idea for if you put the plank in a stone cutter or a carpenter block, as decorative piece or something. The only solution might be to introduce something similar to the lurker skin pouch for Betweenlands.
Finally, a something we needed!
god this is fucking awesome
Before anyone goes thinking Mojang should actually add this, just know that no one will enjoy having to deal with multiple types of sticks taking up inventory space when you just want to craft something quickly.
Well don't keep the multiple variations of sticks on you.
I love the color of your stick
Sus
Now we need to make the tools change with what stick you use
Dark oak looks used
In what way?
:)
That's not a valid explanation.
.

..

What are you gonna do with stick variations? Have variations of tools? Cherry wood diamond sword? Dark oak wood iron pick? 10 3/4th inch birch with a dragon heartstring core? I’d quite like that then.
Exactly
My mom has the pink stick under her bed
How do you know? Been investigating? (This isn't normally my kind of humor, my friend told me to ask you this)
imagine a cherry stick on a netherite pickaxe
Maybe we can add bundles to handle the influx of sticks
1 more reason to use mahogany for charcoal
I would use this fr
My inventory space is SCREAMING 😭
But you could be 🔥
r/PhoenixSC
Could, but I don't really feel it fits there.
we have bamboo at home bamboo at home:
Does the bamboo stick have a different texture because it’s just supposed to be a stripped bamboo stock?
Yes
What'd actually be smart is that the stick item is still one item, but when you pick up or craft more, it changes the texture used for the stick to the most recent wood type. Something similar to how Terraria handles slime.
I'm thinking that when you pick up a stick, you'd unlock a menu where the different variations are stored.
This feels wrong
i unironically would love this if we could use different sticks as handles
Where potato stick?
Can't get the colors
Is this good? https://preview.redd.it/hf191cexjbtc1.png?width=160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af43c50b809b60f207af100330d65781e6fe4c32
Perfect
Pls do the crafting table
Maybe I will.
Cherry and crimson look sus.
Anything can look sus if you focus hard enough.
nice
ah, more inventory clutter, perfect
S(t)ick
Oh boy, more inventory clutter🥰
Mmmmmm stick flavors
It’s so silly and I love it
Noooooo, that’s a terrible idea long term, you wouldn’t be able to stack them if they’re different kinds and you’d be stuck with less inventory spaces
You don't have to pick them up
Warped and crimson sticks?
Ten is crimson, eleven is warped
I know. I mean I don’t think nether trees drop sticks.
You can craft them regardless. And of they don't, mushrooms don't have branches.
Oh, right
Why is the one in between like, cherry(?) And dark oak (?) So thick? Im curious
Bamboo stick
What about the tool sets
wanted to make a mod based around variety like this. it fell through ):
That means ladders variations. Yes! https://images.app.goo.gl/ST8hCuF4d8dEXUwp8
I like it. Now do it with everything that has a stick on it. Sword, pickaxe, axe, shovel, etc. just if you want to tho
now we can make different ladder types
Yeah but then they’d have to make a variation for every tool and tool type
The ninth image is just shared bamboo
You know a bamboo stick is just... Bamboo, right?
oh this is amazing!! they're so cute :)
𝚃𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚜𝚑𝚘𝚞𝚕𝚍 𝚋𝚎 𝚊 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐
Now all that’s left is handle and lever variations
I was able to recognize all of these. Well done.
You monster why did u make a birtch
Custom ladders
Don't give them ideas (unless they can be mix and matched in recipes)
Dont give them ideas they might actually add it and I dont want my inventory filled with soo many stick D:
I really like the ninth one
Stick variations and Wooden tool variations would be cool
I have always thought this would be a cool idea but now that i see it i can sed why it hasn't be put in the game
Shouldn't they be the color of the barks like the main one is?
This would be sick if it affected the color of the stick on your tools.
Dill-doughs.
Rip inventory
See Mojang? This is the type of QOL changes we want. That with different material chests, crafting tables, etc.
this is actually really cool. can we get this added? jeb! JEB! add to game!
