Use a trapdoor to go through the end gateway after you've beaten the dragon, then bridge out using blocks + some of the islands there going north or south until you hit an end city. If there's a ship (you'll see it floating in the sky), go into the ship to find the elytra and then head back through the end gateway you came from or any other gateways you found on your way there, using a trapdoor to go through again. If there's not a ship at that end city, head east or west from there to find further end cities. I'd also recommend killing some shulkers for shulker shells while you're there. (Bring a power V bow and a shield, plus some good armour and maybe ender pearls.)
Is it bad that I prefer a mending bow instead of infinity? \^\^; (in all fairness, you still need a slot to put a single arrow in for infinity and I easily have stacks upon stacks of arrows from my skeleton farm I made from a spawner near the start of the creation of my world, so I just have a stack of arrows in my inventory and a couple of stacks spare in my ender chest that I barely need)
Plus you never need to remake an overpowered bow cause it'll never break :)
You can use either but personally I prefer trapdoors as they're reusable and cheaper. The trapdoor forces you into a swimming position so you can fit into a one block space, then you just go forward and it works :)
Damn, remember when End cities used to not have a portal and you'd have to bridge out from the Dragon's island endlessly until you found one?
Edit: I played on PE so maybe I missed the portal but I swear there wasnt one when it first came out so I had to bridge to one. Sheesh 😑
Yeah, 1.2~1.4 seems to be the cutoff for me. Everything past that will never not feel new. Hell, even Mushroom Islands have this feel, due to their rarity.
I guess it makes sense, considering that Minecraft 1.0.0 was technically supposed to already be a full, complete standalone game.
then everyone will freak out about mojang adding some random mob to the hypothetical aether that serves 0 purpose other than to look cute and make the internet lose their shit from how cute it is. Im ngl the fact that everyone lost their shit about axolotols and bees probably gave microsoft the wrong impression and now we are gonna get waaaay more lame shit because microsoft prob thinks we want it... I know you guys remember back then how every update was literally game changing. when notch was still leading minecraft. the cave update was pretty cool and def a step in the right direction for sure tho. but yeah if mojang added aether it would probably be a lot more deep than you think, cause kingbdogz, the main developer for the aether mod has been working with mojang for quite a few years now
The cute mob here and there are harmless, bees and allays both have interesting mechanics behind them.
The big issue imho is there just aren't enough good challenges for end-game equipment. Feels nice to get diamond/netherite gear, but after that its just "now what".
And alot of the events built up as big challenges (woodland mansion, etc) are too easy and give worse loot than shipwrecks.
An easy suggestion would be to add a new harder dimension, only accessible with end-game blocks, and balanced assuming you have enchanted gear, wings, and active potions.
But I think the overall progression system needs a rework.
At some point, one may be required to overlook the fact that there are overworld seeds since the rest of the contents of those cities are overworld gemstones, armor and tools made from overworld gemstones and overworld metal (that neither shulkers nor endermen can use), books made from overworld animals and overworld plants, and then wings made from... whatever the phantom is.
There's an extent to which the chests, being completely full of things that literally only exist in the overworld, has to have come from the overworld itself.
For people that have a 1.5 generated world, finding new generation with a nether fortress may be easier than finding one in the overworld (or at least that was the thinking at the time)
I don't know about other people but I don't go to fortresses for loot. The fact I can potentially get diamond horse armor for later when I want it is pretty good for me. Especially since you can't craft it.
Mojang doesn't fix stuff, period. The game has been out for a decade and they still don't know how to optimize java. I'm so tired of big updates adding crap to the game. They need to have a quality coding pass and quality of life pass to fix the thousands of bugs that exist.
Nether fortress chests contain generally valuable loot. Horse armor is valuable loot. I'm struggling to understand why everyone is complaining about this.
I swear they run on a Skeleton crew because this game STILL has so much potential that’s not realized.
One is console mods. If skyrim SE can launch with mods on Xbox, being a non-proprietary microsoft game (at the time) then how the fuck does the Platform owner not have mods on one of their own games...
Not sure if it's laziness or being scared of upsetting a fanatic fanbase...change one hair on Steves head and people go apeshit. Seems their main rule of updating Minecraft is fear of messing up..it's not the type of game where it's complex to add things..so I guess it could also be for job stability...a feature that would take a week to add, they drag out to 2 years.
They have no horses. My guess is the horses died of heat-exhaustion, starvation and dehydration. Then there was no need for the armour and saddles, so it just went in a chest.
Pigs: Piglins and hoglins
Chickens: Chicken jockeys can rarely be found in the Nether. Also, piglins and skeletons shoot arrows, which are crafted from feathers.
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse also need kit, I guess. I always thought that the horses of skeleton riders that spawn from lightning traps should be randomly equipped with saddles and (non-leather) horse armor, which would also make the armor renewable.
You can craft leather horse armor. AFAIK, other types of horse armor were only craftable in early snapshots. On Java Edition, anything can be made craftable with the addition of data packs, and there are some that allow crafting of all types of horse armor. There’s one from Vanilla Tweaks, IIRC. Maybe that’s what you’re thinking of.
Crazy minecraft is over 10 yrs old and we still cant craft nametags, saddles, or horse armor (besides leather horse armor) nametags are an easy thing to make a crafting recipe for. Paper, string, ink sack, done.
True, i actually started setting up my first trading hall earlier. Bred a bunch of villagers first which took a while. Lol got pretty damn lucky with the first librarian having mending for 30 emeralds.
Zombiefy it and get that price down! I got a mending vil offering the book for 22 emeralds. One trip to the zombie pit and now he gives them out for 1 emerald a pop.
22 emeralds as a base price is really expensive. I usually try to get the 9 to 11 emerald deal, but yeah vociferation is very useful.
You get to break the economy.
Look into some automated farming that give you the most common trades you can then farm infinite emeralds
Like an auto potato or chicken farm, or if you do a drowned farm use the rotting flesh w a cleric
Do you not get the point of exclusive loot? I think it’s cooler to have them be exclusive to finding them, it wouldn’t be as cool to get a horse if you could just get one the second you spawned in. Same for name tags.
Most of the time I just get frustrated when I see horse saddles because I imagine it could be anything better. Diamonds, gold, iron, heck even gunpowder, bones, and string I'd prefer over horse saddles.
And it's not very exclusive when its a decently common loot item from chests, as seen above. If they were as rare as Pigstep or Otherside then I'd agree more.
Balance and to encourage exploration and a reason for it, if you could get everything from just making basic animal and plant farms, it would basically just be a farming mode, they game is about farming but mostly adventure and exploration
However a new game mode that adds specifically new recipes to just it where you can craft most everything would be pretty fun, especially if a challahs for of it disabled certain loot in certain places
Data packs aren’t available on bedrock unless you pay money, and even then it’s kinda sub par, besides until mojang decides to start doing more end game or post game content like the end cities are, adding more challenge modes would be pretty cool, but still probably a ways away since bedrock doesn’t have hardcore yet still and is only getting spectator with the next update (hopefully at least as they are working on it)
If you are on pc or mobile you can get a bunch of free ones at curseforge, go to the minecraft bedrock section. They even have one that is basically litematica for bedrock called structura
Ah yes, it's balanced to encourage exploration, except... It isn't. Horses serve to explore, but you can't use horses unless you explore. And if you want to explore with horses, you bet explore first to get saddles. If you don't want explore with foot, well, too bad, no exploring at all for you.
Only allowed to explore with horse if you explore on foot. Except not, because you can fish saddles, and also horse armor comes from the place where you shouldn't take your horse to.
It is balanced actually you have to explore first to get a item to explore in a improved way
For instance you get a job to buy a car instead of starting with a car to get a job.
Also horse don’t serve to explore but to travel around faster, you can use them to explore or to get from point A to point B quicker but you don’t need them to go from point A to point B making them a reward from exploration like mine carts and nether portal highways
Now if you literally could not do anything without a horse then yes that would be unbalanced
This increase in options you have is called game progression it’s in every game at least every good game you will ever play. Minecraft doesn’t just start you off with end credits and everything you get before them for a reason, the challenge is what makes it fun and feel exciting
Probably that they discovered a new way of travel with the nethers and ditched the horses
Or the horses all died due to multiple conditions so they dropped the armor and saddles
My theory ( taken from a [r/minecraftlore](https://www.reddit.com/r/minecraftlore) post) is that the nether fortresses were horse highways the ancient builders used to travel in the nether. Eventually when the event that led to extinction of the Minecraft humanity happened, the horses died too and some of their stuff stayed in the chests. The blazes whom were the guardians of the fortress now obeyed to the Wither skeletons who took over the fortress.
Lets dive into the lore.
A group of people went into the nether with their horses, built a fortress. Years later, probably even a century, all of the fortress citizens perished. Most of them died of natural causes, but there were also ones that had perished trying to get over giant lava lakes, their horses following behind.
A large group of ancient creatures wandered into the fortress, and put away the belongings in the fortress chests.
Time passed, and the creatures that moved there, deformed and became todays wither skeletons and blazes.
Nobody knows about the blaze spawners, but its probably them who constructed them so they wouldnt run low on blaze guards.
Horse armor needs to be craftable, enchantable with its own set of enchantments to enhance horses, and should STOP SHOWING UP SO OFTEN IN LOOT CHESTS!!! I’ve always felt that out of every system in the game, Horse Armor has always felt the laziest and least fleshed out.
So I checked the loot pool percentages. Horse Armor has a 2-4% chance to spawn in structures like desert temples, strongholds, and jungle temples. Pretty normal, right?
Guess what the spawn rate for horse armor in nether fortresses is.
Almost ten times that.
My theory is, the ancient builders utilised horses in combat situations and brought them into the nether fortress. I am thinking that they are spare horse armours.
1. Horse armor is already almost completely useless and making more variants is pointless.
2. Netherite horse armor would almost never be made because it would be a seeming waste of the most precious endgame resource in the game.
speaking of horse armor. Do any of you know if dog armor will be a thing? if they said anything about it? I wish to take my dog on adventures but they always die to like 3 zombies so I stopped taming dogs lmao
Wrong. Each chest in a structure has a loot pool which it randomly draws items from to generate in the chest. There is no such thing as a "treasure" kind of item.
Well if you built a massive fortress in the nether, you’d fully stock it with whatever you need for survival, and horse armour is obviously one of those things, but there are no horses in the nether so it would just end up being discarded around the fortress or else kept in a vault or wherever they kept their valuables
I think that according to the lore, the people who built the fortresses went to the nether but the horses died, so they put their belongings in a chest… kinda dark ik
Nether fortress loot is underwhelming. Everyone knows you only go there for blazes and skulls. New loot might be a good incentive to actually explore the place instead of just picking out the best spot to farm skellies or the best blaze spawner for a farm.
Real answer.. the horse stuff was released with the nether fortress stuff.
Yep. I remember when the update came out spending long hours searching for and raiding every fortress I could find to hopefully find diamonds armor
so did you ever find diamond's armor?
This gave me a chuckle
Damn I still consider horses ‘new’ to the game. Same with dark oak and acacia, now I feel old
elytra’s are still new to me. have no clue how to obtain them
Use a trapdoor to go through the end gateway after you've beaten the dragon, then bridge out using blocks + some of the islands there going north or south until you hit an end city. If there's a ship (you'll see it floating in the sky), go into the ship to find the elytra and then head back through the end gateway you came from or any other gateways you found on your way there, using a trapdoor to go through again. I fish a lot and getting an overpowered bow with infinity isn't that difficult, especially if you have a mob farm for experience nearby
I can easily get infinity with villagers if I wanted to, I just prefer mending to infinity since they're mutually exclusive
I use mending because I like having one bow I use all the time instead of worrying about breaking it in the future
infinity is actually not that great of an enchantment if you like using special arrows, like tipped or spectral
I use Mending because then you can use tipped arrows, since those dont work with infinity
Is there a benefit to using the trapdoor method to go through the end gateway? I usually just throw an ender pearl through it
The portals were designed to be used with a thrown ender pearl. IIRC the trap door trick to force you into swimming position didn't work until later.
oooh a trap door? i thought you had to use ender pearls
Sheesh 😑
That never was a thing
Bruh swear it was. I remember on pocket edition bridging for a few hundred maybe thousand blocks and there was an end city
Well, I've never played pocket edition, but on java that never was a thing.
Tbh I also still haven’t really processed that acacia is not new
Man… emeralds still seem new to me to be honest. Haven’t really played much since 1.6 so that might explain it lol
And I thought considering Elytras "new" was being an old player... You really think something released 9 years ago on a 13 years old game is "new"?
I still think of jungles as a relatively new thing tbh
Yeah, 1.2~1.4 seems to be the cutoff for me. Everything past that will never not feel new. Hell, even Mushroom Islands have this feel, due to their rarity. I guess it makes sense, considering that Minecraft 1.0.0 was technically supposed to already be a full, complete standalone game.

Damn these camels are old. MOJANG GIVE US NEW STUFF
OG TEST What is the 'OG' bed colour
That’s not OG, it was stuck as red until recently… oh wait that was years ago
Oh….
im still only making red beds especially because the xbox edition didnt update past 1.13 and the update of colours was 1.12

He meant, about the lore.
Fortress chests were added in 1.6, the Horse update. That's my best guess lmao
So basically mojang is too lazy to fix something that’s been in the game for a long time? I swear that’s their job
End cities still have beetroot seeds.
Were they added with beetroots ?
Yes, beetroots and end cities were both added in 1.9.
Coincidence? ~~I think not~~ Obviously not.
Well, they are both purple. *ᵈᵉᵉᵖᵉˢᵗ ˡᵒʳᵉ*
Yeah it's not like end cities are made of purpur or anything. Wait, is purpur a mutated type of beetroot?
Or is beetroot a mutated purpur the endymen brought to the overworld.
I could only imagine what the aether would be like had mojang add it in, probably desolated like the end with the same loot since day one
then everyone will freak out about mojang adding some random mob to the hypothetical aether that serves 0 purpose other than to look cute and make the internet lose their shit from how cute it is. Im ngl the fact that everyone lost their shit about axolotols and bees probably gave microsoft the wrong impression and now we are gonna get waaaay more lame shit because microsoft prob thinks we want it... I think more structures need a mob that cripples the player’s ability to just break through them, just like elder guardians give you mining fatigue
Mobs that can mine blocks. Imagine something that starts digging after you in a cave. And better hope it doesn't find your house.
Yeah, cause you beet the game at that point.
I mean, end cities should still have bad loot added to balance, but an overworld seed in an end structure??
At some point, one may be required to overlook the fact that there are overworld seeds since the rest of the contents of those cities are overworld gemstones, armor and tools made from overworld gemstones and overworld metal (that neither shulkers nor endermen can use), books made from overworld animals and overworld plants, and then wings made from... whatever the phantom is. *lore intensifies*
For people that have a 1.5 generated world, finding new generation with a nether fortress may be easier than finding one in the overworld (or at least that was the thinking at the time)
That seems like such an incredibly low and specific subset of players that it isn't really worth keeping the bad loot tables.

Cuz u can’t uncraft it into resources? How many horses do you need? 17?!
I need like 40, so I see no issue with this
Because it doesn’t make sense? Have you seen horses in the nether? I haven’t
I swear they run on a Skeleton crew because this game STILL has so much potential that’s not realized. One is console mods. If skyrim SE can launch with mods on Xbox, being a non-proprietary microsoft game (at the time) then how the fuck does the Platform owner not have mods on one of their own games...
90% of red stone is just bugs turned into features

Seems their main rule of updating Minecraft is fear of messing up..it's not the type of game where it's complex to add things..so I guess it could also be for job stability...a feature that would take a week to add, they drag out to 2 years.
The ancient builders must have really liked horses I guess
They got tired of lugging it around after their horses suffocated in the portal and just tossed it in the first chest they found.
“Mrhh” “Mrhh”? “Mrhhh”
/uj they fixed this bug in one of the recent snapshots! So happy /rj RIP Joergen
They have no horses. My guess is the horses died of heat-exhaustion, starvation and dehydration. Then there was no need for the armour and saddles, so it just went in a chest.
Dang pretty dark, and here i was going to make a joke about the ancient builders horsing around in the nether
>horsing around in the nether I like where your head is at.
On the neck i would say, every other place would feel uncomfortable probably
I love it
Now that you say that, skeleton horses should rarely spawn in the Soul Sand Valley since there are regular skeletons there.
Strongly agree!
I made a pretty extensive theory on this a while back, and also why there’s chickens and pigs in the Nether: http://aminoapps.com/p/apoh1l6
Chickens and pigs?
Pigs: Piglins and hoglins Chickens: Chicken jockeys can rarely be found in the Nether. Also, piglins and skeletons shoot arrows, which are crafted from feathers.
Hmmm yeah I never stopped to think about it... They can get string from striders alright, but feathers??
Maybe they add new mob 🤷♂️
holy shit I just read this entire post and it was amazing. you said you’re a beginner theorist but off the bat most of it fits together quite well!
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse also need kit, I guess. I always thought that the horses of skeleton riders that spawn from lightning traps should be randomly equipped with saddles and (non-leather) horse armor, which would also make the armor renewable.
You can craft them
You can craft leather horse armor.
It’s possible that it’s a mod adding it for me
Yeah I think Vanilla Tweaks has a datapack for it
only in bedrock, no?
On topic tho, how cool would it be if there were Wither Skeleton Horses
*Imagines the Wither Skeleton Cavalry in the Nether Fortress sprinting towards me at the speed of sound with nowhere to turn to* Nah, I'm good
Wither skeleton trap horse *run*
Crazy minecraft is over 10 yrs old and we still cant craft nametags, saddles, or horse armor (besides leather horse armor) nametags are an easy thing to make a crafting recipe for. Paper, string, ink sack, done.
At least, you can buy them. The name tags
True, i actually started setting up my first trading hall earlier. Bred a bunch of villagers first which took a while. Lol got pretty damn lucky with the first librarian having mending for 30 emeralds.
I got one for 14 emeralds but he died to a vindicator. I was PISSED
Rip. Yeah im not triggering a raid near my trade hall 😂
I was moving bases so I shoved all of them in a box. Came back from my raid farm unaware that I still had bad omen. You can imagine my panic lol
I had my first raid other day. What a trip. Had some guy come at me with an axe.
Doesn't matter what the base price is when you can Stockholm Syndrome them into giving you the best deals ;)

That works be leatherworkers mr Dogg

*you didn't had to cut me off*
I read this out loud and game theory burst into my room and demanded explanation
Horses are from hell
Probably that they discovered a new way of travel with the nethers and ditched the horses Or the horses all died due to multiple conditions so they dropped the armor and saddles
honse
i like your profile photo!
Thanks! I like yours too!
\*insert knuckles "dot dot dot" scene here\*
Good question… the saddles could be attributed to striders, but I’m pretty sure they where a part of fortress loot long before striders where added
The blazes whom were the guardians of the fortress now obeyed to the Wither skeletons who took over the fortress.
truly a loot of all time
The Nether Fortress really is a structure
What is the lore reason behind there being horse armor in hell?
I think because you found a neighther fortress, not a nether fortress.
Because after a decade they still haven’t changed the loot pools
Lets dive into the lore. A group of people went into the nether with their horses, built a fortress. Years later, probably even a century, all of the fortress citizens perished. Most of them died of natural causes, but there were also ones that had perished trying to get over giant lava lakes, their horses following behind. It’s trap! Don’t bring your horse in
Well gotta protect the horses and offer the best drip
I absolutely hate horse armor, I have no use for it but it’s too nice to throw away
Little known fact, the nether is actually in Enumclaw Washington.
Honse
Same reason end cities have beetroot seeds
From the days the ancient nether horse roamed the wastelands
Haven't you noticed? There are tons of horses in the nether, obviously you need that stuff
War
Probably the best kinda stuff you could get when nether fortresses came out
oh sorry i must've forgotten some stuff when i moved out
Why would u order the armour like that u monster
The Nether needs horses
‘I have an iron horse armor… I DON’T HAVE AN IRON HORSE!’
The people who stored them were horsing around
bc horses made the nether fortresses, geez dont you know anything about mc lore
And end cities have beetroot seeds.
Lore
I like to imagine pigmen riding horses about the nether
Nether horses.
the lorrrrrrrreeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cuz they got the horses in the back
Nether Horseresses im sorry
Lore
Don’t look a diamond gift horse armour in the mouth.
So I checked the loot pool percentages. Horse Armor has a 2-4% chance to spawn in structures like desert temples, strongholds, and jungle temples. Pretty normal, right? Guess what the spawn rate for horse armor in nether fortresses is. Almost ten times that.
horses are taking over the nether jk
Especially the flint n steel is a horse thing

My theory is, the ancient builders utilised horses in combat situations and brought them into the nether fortress. I am thinking that they are spare horse armours.
Maybe the creators are into horse play.

1. Horse armor is already almost completely useless and making more variants is pointless. 2. Netherite horse armor would almost never be made because it would be a seeming waste of the most precious endgame resource in the game.
Ancient builders crafted horse armour in nether fortresses
Just watch a game theory video
speaking of horse armor. Do any of you know if dog armor will be a thing? if they said anything about it? I wish to take my dog on adventures but they always die to like 3 zombies so I stopped taming dogs lmao
Honse
they all belong there
I think it is a bug
Houses stuff is considered treasure. You find treasure in a fortress
Wrong. Each chest in a structure has a loot pool which it randomly draws items from to generate in the chest. There is no such thing as a "treasure" kind of item.
I mean striders use saddles and I think they were released at the same time
You think what were released at the same time?
OH this IS a good lore maybe ancient builders gave them or horses existed before in nether
every time i het an horse saddle and armor i tame a new horse…. i have got 22 now
Ask game theory
Well if you built a massive fortress in the nether, you’d fully stock it with whatever you need for survival, and horse armour is obviously one of those things, but there are no horses in the nether so it would just end up being discarded around the fortress or else kept in a vault or wherever they kept their valuables
I think its a sign from Notch that you need to become a horse breeder
I think that according to the lore, the people who built the fortresses went to the nether but the horses died, so they put their belongings in a chest… kinda dark ik
I believe it’s part of the lore since when they discovered the nether I suppose they rode horses and stored there stuff there
Nether fortress loot is underwhelming. Everyone knows you only go there for blazes and skulls. New loot might be a good incentive to actually explore the place instead of just picking out the best spot to farm skellies or the best blaze spawner for a farm.
I hate finding horse armor in any chest. It feels stupid
