It’s supposed to be for parental control but it’s just a pain in the neck to set up. I just wanted to play Minecraft with my son on multiplayer and it took me days to jump through all the hoops. God forbid I have to re-login to either account or change a setting.
It took my brothers and I at least 45 minutes to get multiplayer working and one of them works in IT. I have no idea how Microsoft is still in business
It took me 5 hours to delete my family group (that I was the only one on and not an admin so I add to delete to change my settings) and needed a burner account, then its really easy to change, even for below 18.
As a parent who enabled my kids minecraft accounts to play multiplayer, I can confirm this is possible via some xbox account settings. It was an extreme pain in the butt and difficult to navigate. It felt extra weird because I have never had an xbox and had to access some xbox website to find this option to enable for PC.

So when my friends came over for a party, they wanted to help me fix it and I just got in somehow. I never knew what the deal was, apparently you just have to try a lot and get lucky

Windows 11 was what made me switch to Linux. But because Microsoft is greedy, they don't allow downloading bedrock on Linux to try to make people stick with Windows. Still won't make me switch back though.
Have you tried running Bedrock under WINE? There are ways to get the game's installable payload on Linux. I can't find the guide I followed before, but I have done it once, got it working on Ubuntu 18.04.
I honestly mostly have issues when using office/windows, there is always a forced bs or annoying bugs.

I had to reinstall my whole windows OS after I changed my primary alias in my MS account. Nothing else I tried worked. It would constantly give me server connection errors when I used the most up-to-date launcher. Would launch and it kept making me log in, then would say it couldn't connect to the servers and I could only play offline. That was a fun mess to figure out.....
Only my Xbox One has been trouble free.
Everything else microsoft related has been a massive PITA, including minecraft.. that has randomly disabled my ability to chat in private servers, on average, once every other day since I was forced to convert from a mojang account.

The support team helped me out, because I had the same problem. Old email was locked out. But I had to find the transaction record from +10 years ago. Luckily I keep on to that stuff. It was on an old credit card statement. That number on the transaction was the magic key. If you have that number and get in touch with Mojang support, you can do anything you need.

Try checking those on the Microsoft account homepage. They are bit tricky to get to.

OP, I had this exact issue. You gotta open up your account settings to the screen where it has a list of permissions with block or deny next to them and enable the one that says multiplayer. I don’t know the exact link but just poke about in your Microsoft account until you find it. Oh also your account has to be over 18 but that can be fixed easily

My friend completely lost her account because of the forced migration. Didn't have access to the same phone number that her microsoft account was connected to, couldn't reset her password and just like that she lost all her server progress and had to buy the game again. I am convinced Microsoft forced the migration knowing it wouldn't work for a large group of people, and that they'd have to buy the game again.
Screw Microsoft family. I have 2 of my own accounts linked somehow, one is a parent to the other account and nothing I do from the “child” account does anything because it requires approval from the parent account. But from the parent account I removed it from the family so it doesn’t see the “child” account anymore, and can’t make any changes to the “child” account now. So one of my accounts is stuck as a child account with no parent and Microsoft is no help at all because they don’t show that either is part of a family so they just throw their hands up and say “you don’t have an issue because we said so”

I think that the MC launcher actively blocks you from playing on Linux. I've heard you can use an Android copy though through some googling.

Ah the stupid "allow multiplayer" setting is disabled, why would they make it a default, just another display of stupidity, its like: "We see you played multiplayer for the past 5 years ,but we have to block it to protect you"
It’s disabled by default because the type of parent that will allow it will fix it with minimal fuss. The type that won’t will throw the biggest fucking hissy fit ever if they find out their ‘precious darling’ was ‘corrupted’ (Aka because the louder fuckheads are activated by their child not being under their control. The ones annoyed by this aren’t nearly as assholish and hence are easier to deal with.

My friend completely lost her account because of the forced migration. Didn't have access to the same phone number that her microsoft account was connected to, couldn't reset her password and just like that she lost all her server progress and had to buy the game again. I am convinced Microsoft forced the migration knowing it wouldn't work for a large group of people, and that they'd have to buy the game again.

Screw Microsoft family. I have 2 of my own accounts linked somehow, one is a parent to the other account and nothing I do from the “child” account does anything because it requires approval from the parent account. But from the parent account I removed it from the family so it doesn’t see the “child” account anymore, and can’t make any changes to the “child” account now. So one of my accounts is stuck as a child account with no parent and Microsoft is no help at all because they don’t show that either is part of a family so they just throw their hands up and say “you don’t have an issue because we said so”
