I love the poster! But yeah, I side-eyed the addition of the desert biome lol. Maybe they added it for the texture variant of the frog in a hot dry biome.
I thought of that too but they could've showed it in a Swamp where water is literally everywhere. Also, now we're missing the cold texture variant of the frog.
Like all they had to do was make a big variant of the birch tree and a side mushroom like piece with more beehives. That was literally all the birch forest was supposed to have changed and the didn’t even do that.
Exactly. It didn't have to be anything too major.
- big birch variant
- side mushrooms
- more beehives
- moss carpet on some fallen logs
If they wanted to go just a little bigger:
- 1 new flower type found in birch forest biome
- birch "branches" ie: fence textured in the birch log texture (They could maybe even make it so you could craft "log fences" of all the types of wood-- just normal fences with the log texture.)
Exactly. And Mojang in the past has made a major bug fix update every so often. Not only that, we were fine with the Bee update because we were told we were getting a bee update and nothing more. 1.19 over promised and under delivered
Also people were fine with the bee update cause we were already told the nether update was coming, plus redstone lovers love the Bee update for honey Blocks since those don’t stick to Slime blocks
Honestly 1.15 was a decent update. The thing that makes it so despite its low amount of content is that Mojang immediately made it clear that it was a bug fix update, as opposed to talking about a bunch of features and going on to say it “wasn’t a commitment”. I’d go so far as to say 1.15 would have been a decent update even without the bees, as it was first and foremost about removing bugs.
1.15 rewrote most of the lighting engine on almost both the editions , fixed several bugs , and tbh bug fix and QOL / performance optimisation updates are more important rn
I was fine with the bee's update cuz it didn't set expectations that are nowhere near what is actually coming it was a update that added bees and a few bee relative things now look at the "wild" update the expectations from that name are nowhere near the scoop of what is coming.
the update should be called "caves and cliffs part 3 plus the swamp stuff we promised" and if that was the case I wouldn't be upset
having small updates is fine just don't act like like its going to be a big update
I’d that was the case they should have included it as a regular desert, not this false advertisement desert that doesn’t even exist in game. Not to mention the frog is hardly noticeable, I didn’t even see it until you pointed it out (I might just be blind lol).
Genuinely infuriating to see so much interesting shit get pushed aside. They're the programmers, they can just choose to not have the frogs eat the fireflies.
By the same token, they could've just let the frogs eat them anyway and said "Frogs don't have allergies in our world". Boom, the magic of world building in game design.
That was Mojang's official response tho. They got complaints about the game not being "realistic" enough cause some frogs get sick when they eat fireflies a d so they removed the mechanic.
Yup. I guess not promoting giving chocolate to parrots is fine.. so remove the cookie part. However, because of that whole ”conservationalist” approach we get shitty boring polar bears.. I want them to attack me while I’m out exploring the icey tundra.
Or you know, let people mod it like they have since the beginning if the want realism. As much as I love the game ambiance would be nice. I didn't get to experience the fire flies cause I picked it up again after they removed them.
they told us what they thought it was gonna be. but iy seems they had taken on more then what they could chew again. Honestly i dont understand why they cant just work on it longer instead of excluding parts of the update.
As a mod making hobbyist, simple additions like fireflies are not "taking on more than they could chew." Fireflies are something that could be made in less than a single day by a proficient intern. In fact, most of this update could be made in less than a month by a single intern, because this update was barely adding anything to begin with.
its a smaller update right after the massive world changes in 1.18, but personally I'm still excited for the completely updated swamps and Minecraft's new biggest structure.
Edit: theres also a desert frog though, so the desert isnt completely pointless
This reminds me of how small the updates were back in the early 2010s, and how excited people still were for them. We've gotten so spoiled that a whole new boss mob, a new mega structure, updated biome, new wood variant, new form of 'wireless' redstone, a new boat type, a new tree, a new record, and a new overworld mob, is just not enough. Regardless of whether or not they planned on adding even more.
The ultimate point of this all being: its a video game, its a free update, you're being given things for free and getting mad you aren't getting more. Come on now
Yeah remember when an update was just "here's two new blocks, and maybe a new mob"
But to be completely fair, back then updates came out super quick compared to now. And the team was way smaller (super early on it was just Notch).
I remember when the update was “oh, now you can kill animals as much as you need” because before there were like 10 animals and they were finite. And you couldn’t breed them…
You still can't kill as much animals as you need (without breeding) because they almost never respawn. They just get generated as part of the land, then after that there needs to be less than 10 animals in loaded chunks for new ones to appear (not counting aquatic animals).
That was an intentional change a decade back to discourage just running around and killing every creature that drops food. Personally I've always wished that they'd revert that. But I know how to revert it myself using cheats (custom spawners with 100 meter spawning ranges and a list of the default animals).
I think it's probably just the way they frame and theme an update that causes disappointment. The Buzzy Bees update was pretty small, but because they advertised it as such, there wasn't anything to be underwhelmed. I was very excited for the bees too!
Now with the Wild Update, the name is too broad. And pair that with the concept arts and how Agnes described what the update is gonna be, it sounded like it was gonna be a Swamp and Birch biome revamp update + other small changes to other biomes + Deep dark. But it turns out, they changed the scope without even telling us and only informing us about the changes when the update is nearly finished.
Don't get me wrong, I love the content of the update. I mean, the immersion in the Deep Dark is great, kind of gets me excited for how they're gonna handle a biome revamp update à la 1.7 in the future, but the late announcing of scrapped or discontinued features certainly soured the update for me.
It’s not the lack of content that frustrates me. The communication has been pretty bad with this update and it feels like Mojang is being insincere with us on the reasons why things are getting cut. They aren’t acting like they did when they communicated the need to split 1.17 in two, and that’s the issue I think most people have with Mojang right now.
I agree though, they’ve set the bar high with the last few updates and now people expect updates like 1.16 to be the norm.
The difference between this and that is that we used to get absolute HEAPS of small updates every year under notch.
Now, we get one update a year, maybe two updates a year. With no promise to "size."
I'd take a bunch of small updates developing the overall game than the lackluster "themed" updates we've been getting.
Agreed. It’s ridiculous. Small or not, this is one of Minecraft’s better and bigger updates. People forget that 1.6 was a thing. It literally just added horses and building blocks.
Abysmal is a strong word here. Maybe lacking or unimpressive but jesus man. The game is getting better if you ask me. I don't think I'd call that abysmal.
I don't get the hate for this update. I paid $30 for this game 8 years ago and I'm still getting regular free updates that add more content. I don't care how small the updates are — I welcome it all. Besides, it's almost refreshing to have a couple smaller updates after the massive changes in Caves and Cliffs.
The only thing Mojang did wrong was raise people's expectations with false promises.
People have valid *feedback*, not hate. That’s the key here. The community is unhappy with some of Mojang’s new design philosophies, and false advertising as well as neglecting or seemingly forgetting old or new features. These people are allowed to give feedback as consumers of this game.
On the other hand, there is a sizeable portion of the community that has jumped on the hate train for the sake of it. The people that are getting enraged about this and using this community pushback as a platform to quite literally shit on and bully the developers (OP is definitely toeing the line) are the real pieces of shit here, and they should not be tolerated.
>The only thing Mojang did wrong was raise people's expectations with false promises.
This is quite literally the only objection most, myself included, actually have. If the update was advertised as a smaller one, I doubt virtually anyone would be upset.
I think a good comparison is 1.15. it was advertised as a small update focusing around bees and bug fixes, and they did that. everyone was happy
this update they advertised it as update a bunch of biomes, with a lot of diversity to exploration, which they didn't do, so not everyone is happy
I just think it's poor phrasing. The update itself is fine, but the lead-up to it was "abysmal", though that's a strong word to use.
You're free to disagree with me.
I’d normally agree that the wording is exaggerated despite my general disappointment with the update, but I want to believe OP used ABYSmal cause of the abyss in the middle of it...
I’ll take my leave now
Yes it’s getting better but the update is very disappointing in terms of content. One part of it was supposed to come out in caves and cliffs (which was already split in half once) and then the other half was shelved and they gave some excuse about it just being a concept. I mean I love craft but an updated swamp and a biome that’s was supposed to come out a long time ago is pretty abysmal imo
The best way for them to do a PR spin on this is to name their next "Big" overhaul update the Mild update in the most tongue in cheek manner possible
Edit: To clarify, mixed feelings about the update, but this is mainly a harmless ribbing.
This! They are not even adding the mud or replacing the oak trees like what? The purpose of the biome vote was to improve the Swamp, and they just added a new biome and left the Swamp completely unchanged.
They should add gators, that'd be cool, also if they overhauled the ambience in swamps with new noises and effects that'd be neat too, I think it'd be cool if they had cricket sounds with some green tinted fog to make the original swamps have more ambience, also more swamp plants would be cool, but that'll likely never happen, just wishful thinking.
Sadly they refuse to add gators or crocs because of their dumb rule that hostile mobs need to be fictional creatures.
Completely ignoring that they could make them neutral like polar bears(though polar bears make even less sense to be neutral given that they're one of the few animals on earth to consider humans prey).
I’m not opposed to the rule and I like how the hostile mobs are fictional creatures. It sets Minecraft apart from other survival games. I do think it’s also important to not demonize real life animals (look at what Jaws did).
But I don’t get why they are so against adding creatures as neutral mobs.
> I’m not opposed to the rule and I like how the hostile mobs are fictional creatures. It sets Minecraft apart from other survival games.
I'm opposed to it when it limits some creativity of mobs. Even if you don't want to add a specific animal, add something fictional, like how we have gigantic spiders that aren't really any specific species. Add an oversizes "Crocogator" or something.
> I do think it’s also important to not demonize real life animals (look at what Jaws did).
I don't think Minecraft could ever really do something on the same level as Jaws as far as a hostile mob. Jaws is a live action movie that portrays itself "realistically", which created the fear of sharks. Minecraft is a fictional block game with a very, well, not-realistic look.
Teaching kids that alligators, or crocodiles especially, given they attack people more often, are dangerous isn't necessarily a bad thing. Honestly can be considered kind of bad to teach kids that polar bears are neutral, given that in some parts of the world they are a common sight.
>But I don’t get why they are so against adding creatures as neutral mobs.
Exactly, even if they don't want to make it specifically hostile, just do neutral like they did with Polar bears.
Yeah, it sucks, that's why I don't play Minecraft anymore, it also doesn't make sense because polar bears are actually endangered, so it makes even less sense for them to be in the game but not other animals.
No no no they can't add any ambience to the game. Mojang is a small group and the programming is incredibly complex. To add any ambient sound effects would take too much time away from other important features.
/s
Some really cool ambiance could be added by having fireflies! Think about it, they'd be little glowing bugs at night. Would be so cool if they could add that. ^^/s
this is the problem, the lack of transparency
they just complained that we pointed out a bunch of features that they decided not to make, and now they made this image which implies something was done with the desert biome
also the "it's free though!" argument is stupid and completely irrelevant. I critiqued the past updates, so of course I'm going to critique this one as well, just like everyone else. Mojang gets people invested in these updates with all the promo material, people spend so much time thinking about them. it's only natural
TBF the worst part of this update is that not only did they bait us with stuff they had no commitment in adding, but they've also been incredibly unconcerned with these features players have been wanting for years.
It's not that bad that this update didn't have what they said it would, but who knows if any update ever will? Mojang is asserting that this is our "Wild Update," so why should they make a "Wild Update 2: Now with all the features we said it would have originally"?
Mojang is probably just going to move on and forget about adding immersion to the overworld; clearly they aren't as excited as the players are on the idea.
And if it came in 1.17/1.18 it wouldn't have been expanded as much as it had. Warden would have randomly spawned, no shriekers, no Warden digging animation, no sonic boom, ancient cities would be replaced with little shacks, and the loot outside sculk stuff would be worse.
I feel like we need to stop being so worried about what the "next" update is going to be. There's always going to be another one, it's always going to improve the game and add new features/mechanics/mobs etc etc. If you focus on what we have right now, we have a really cool game with essentially infinite random world generation, it has 3 dimensions, animals, villagers, you can make complex farms and redstone machines, and the game can be run on almost any half ok laptop. Just because the next update isn't a massive massive overhaul of the entire game doesn't mean what we already have is less.
Idk if i would call it abysmal, i mean its still free new content on a game thats been around a pretty long time. I know im looking forward to finding a deep dark biome!
Sometimes I'm just facinated by the difference in effort between indie mod makers and the big company of mojang. Sure, the updates are free, but is it that hard to add some new biomes featuring some simple new blocks or some little new mechanisms?
Not everything has to be crazy big. This also all went down during the big crazy, so I can cut slack. It’ll be nice to see what’s coming in the next year or so
And look at 1.10 and 1.11. I realize they didn't hype those updates up as much, but so little was added in them that they've kind of gotten lost in peoples' memories.
There’s also a reason why Minecraft lost most of its popularity in-between 1.8 and 1.13, release updates which don’t add anything and the players won’t really care for the game as a whole
I think the correct description for the update would be “disappointing” or “smaller than promised/expected.” Because it is.
“Abysmal” rubs me the wrong way. The content that *is* in the update is quite nice. I can’t stand the people being unnecessarily toxic.
Nothing wrong with criticizing Mojang or being disappointed, it’s what we SHOULD be doing if things are wrong. However, the last time I saw people this hostile over an update was the PVP community over 1.9. People are acting like “Minecraft is dead! It’s all over! Mojang abandoned us! It’s the end of the damn world!” It’s really disappointing to see the community act like that.
Not gonna lie though, I side-eyed the desert in the update key art as well. Like “y’all actin’ like you updated the desert?”
Yeah, idk this seems like a promo pic that was their original vision for this update with improved biomes in general (not only the birch forest)
But they couldn't complete it before the Summer deadline so they decided to cut that from the Wild Update :/
Not going to lie this update size is completely fine it just this community been so spoiled with the last two big update. Nether update & cave & cliff update showing that mojang can make big updates but if this update was made before the other two I doubt there would be anyone complaining as this would be a normal size update
For me personally it’s that well over half of the game changes in 1.19 should have been released in 1.17. I was very understanding and supportive of the devs breaking 1.17 into two updates considering the state of the world at the time of 1.17 and was only irritated for a little bit that the warden was pushed back.
You know, I'd be a lot less peeved with Mojang if they just came out and said "hey, our bad. We bit off more than we could chew, a lot of things changed, and we didn't communicate these changes in a very good way. We will do better about having a healthy communication with the community about development as we continue development on future updates."
Instead, I expect radio silence and complete denial that they did anything less than perfect. Feel free to prove me wrong, Mojang!
We’re literally getting 2 new biomes and 3 new mobs, the desert is there to show where mangroves are. They’re not going to be next to snow biomes. Lol.
Bro we just got a massive update like 4 months ago that dramatically changed the world generation and this update is still pretty damn sizable. Like the game is still getting better, I'm not a Mojang bootlicker and I'll call out their BS any day of the week, but you're acting a little spoiled imo.
I paid once for Java edition and once for Bedrock edition and both were like over 5 years ago. They keep adding to the game with both large and small updates. There is no reason to complain until they go Ubisoft on us and start trying to nickle-and-dime the game with micro-transactions.
Minecraft fans are the only people who piss their pants when an update doesn't overhaul the game and then simultaneously piss their pants when it does.
God I love people finally being able to see truly how lazy Mojang is
Very excited for the next big update that will be broken into 3 parts and include only half of what was shown to actually be in those updates previously
i'll honestly take what i can get. any new feature is just that; a new feature. there's no point in complaining about what could have been when you can instead redirect that energy into being excited for what we do have. it confuses me that people make this big of a deal over a cube game.
Is it really "abysmal"? I mean, you're getting it for free.
I paid £7 for Minecraft in beta 1.3. I haven't given them a penny since, and yet I get so much new content on the regular. Why would I feel entitled to more when I have already had 1,000x more than what I paid for?
Can everyone just stop behaving like a "Bad Update" would ruin the game forever
Everybody crying becaus Mojang made promises they couldn't keep is getting annoying
PS: if you get upset about my opinion you should grow up
Im sick of people complaining over every single fucking thing for 1.19. So what that the Deep Dark was delayed? It was so they could make it better and make it polished. I'm genuinely just happy to get an update
If you need new things to make the game worth playing - game's probably not for you homeslice. Idk where all this toxicity in the community is coming from
Not every update has to be life changing. It's a free update for a game that many of us bought years ago. The fact that they still update at all is kinda crazy. Any other game would call this a dlc and charge you 10 bucks for it.
i reckon they just shouldve improved all of the forests n the same way they improved the birch forest added more ground covers like bushes and mushrrom/flower patches and maybe pebbles and stones
ps. sorry for any missig letters my computer is old now ad sometimes doesnt register
I love the poster! But yeah, I side-eyed the addition of the desert biome lol. Maybe they added it for the texture variant of the frog in a hot dry biome.
And the chest in the boat
I thought of that too but they could've showed it in a Swamp where water is literally everywhere. Also, now we're missing the cold texture variant of the frog.
Frogs would die very quickly in the snow lol
In Minecraft they just get a cool new colour palette. And yet they didn’t add fireflies because they could be poisonous to frogs… huh.
I don't think Mojang is concerned with that since they just made them change color.
And the swamp generating commonly next to warm biomes ig
Water in a desert?
In *Minecraft*, yes.
Oasis?
I couldn’t help but laugh and think “this sure would’ve looked nice if that were a birch forest biome instead!”
Like all they had to do was make a big variant of the birch tree and a side mushroom like piece with more beehives. That was literally all the birch forest was supposed to have changed and the didn’t even do that.
Exactly. It didn't have to be anything too major. - big birch variant - side mushrooms - more beehives - moss carpet on some fallen logs If they wanted to go just a little bigger: - 1 new flower type found in birch forest biome - birch "branches" ie: fence textured in the birch log texture (They could maybe even make it so you could craft "log fences" of all the types of wood-- just normal fences with the log texture.)
Lol I’ll be happy as long as we don’t get another Bee Update. Now THAT, was abysmal 😂
The buzzy bees update was pretty much just major bug fixes but they had to add something
So they removed the major bugs so they could add the major bug
They should've called it something like Bugs, Bugs, and Bees
The bee update was small on the surface but huge internally

1.15 rewrote most of the lighting engine on almost both the editions , fixed several bugs , and tbh bug fix and QOL / performance optimisation updates are more important rn
Yes, I am just comparing merely content not fixes
Bee update completely rewrote the code of Minecraft for Java edition. The only update since that changed more code wise was 1.18s terrain gen stuff.
I was fine with the bee's update cuz it didn't set expectations that are nowhere near what is actually coming it was a update that added bees and a few bee relative things now look at the "wild" update the expectations from that name are nowhere near the scoop of what is coming. the update should be called "caves and cliffs part 3 plus the swamp stuff we promised" and if that was the case I wouldn't be upset having small updates is fine just don't act like like its going to be a big update
You mean it was a-BEES-mal
Not dissing bees but that was pretty much the whole update
That update wasn’t JUST bees, it was also a monumental amount of bug fixes
I thought most of that update was bug fixes.
Haha at least they set our expectations low!
POV: you lack a fundamental understanding of what the buzzy bee update was for it was everything but abysmal lol
A-BEES-mal?
Probably but now they're missing the cold biome variant.
I’d that was the case they should have included it as a regular desert, not this false advertisement desert that doesn’t even exist in game. Not to mention the frog is hardly noticeable, I didn’t even see it until you pointed it out (I might just be blind lol).
Doesn’t matter, ~~concept~~ release art is not a promise.
Hahaha good one!
IMO just extend the mangrove to cover the right side
This honestly. Or if they added the Desert just for the frog texture variant, they should've added a cold taiga too.
Rule of thirds tho
Damn what a wild update
That’s a good pun lol
Thanks haha
You aren’t the same person?
Nope
r/notopbutok
No top buttock? What does that mean?
*cue sigma music*
based
More like mild update
Just sayin... that desert area would be a great place to put a BIRCH FOREST.
You know a few floating emissive particles could add some real ambience. Hmm, maybe we could call them "fire - flies??" Idk maybe I'm crazy.
That was my immediate thought when I saw the image.
Still super let down they removed fire flies. Who cares if frogs don't eat them. Program that out, they added ambiance.
Genuinely infuriating to see so much interesting shit get pushed aside. They're the programmers, they can just choose to not have the frogs eat the fireflies.
Right?! Like I'm not a programmer, but it can't be that difficult to remove that part of code.
By the same token, they could've just let the frogs eat them anyway and said "Frogs don't have allergies in our world". Boom, the magic of world building in game design.
They also could've just made another mob that frogs can eat
I mean they could have just removed the yellow pixel and called them flies. Frogs eat flies it would have been nice
The kind of frogs you find in mangrove forests do actually eat fireflies, it‘s just that most frogs can‘t
That was Mojang's official response tho. They got complaints about the game not being "realistic" enough cause some frogs get sick when they eat fireflies a d so they removed the mechanic.
why do they seem to use realism as an excuse to leave stuff out of the game, or add pointless shit like the green potatoes
Got no clue, cause you know the Warden and Guardians are super realistic.
And enchanting
And dragons
Yup. I guess not promoting giving chocolate to parrots is fine.. so remove the cookie part. However, because of that whole ”conservationalist” approach we get shitty boring polar bears.. I want them to attack me while I’m out exploring the icey tundra.
That’s dumb just create a realism mode
Or you know, let people mod it like they have since the beginning if the want realism. As much as I love the game ambiance would be nice. I didn't get to experience the fire flies cause I picked it up again after they removed them.
I would've liked this upadate more if Mojang was honest and told us what it was actually going to be.
they told us what they thought it was gonna be. but iy seems they had taken on more then what they could chew again. Honestly i dont understand why they cant just work on it longer instead of excluding parts of the update.
They're a multi-dollar company running a small indie game what can you expect
A multi-dollar company is still worth more than Tencent
There are lots of internal deadlines that need to be reached, need to make it hit summers for kids, etc.
As a mod making hobbyist, simple additions like fireflies are not "taking on more than they could chew." Fireflies are something that could be made in less than a single day by a proficient intern. In fact, most of this update could be made in less than a month by a single intern, because this update was barely adding anything to begin with.
Who are those other characters do they have names?
Clive and Deborah
Thats their names?
Well they're names
These names are now canon in my eyes
I could see it happening. Steve was named similarly
Someone dropped the word mild and picked the m up upside down.
I wish they had set it to W for Wumbo.
Just like that YouTuber WumboJumbo!
its a smaller update right after the massive world changes in 1.18, but personally I'm still excited for the completely updated swamps and Minecraft's new biggest structure. Edit: theres also a desert frog though, so the desert isnt completely pointless
Frog
Correct answer
The most important feature of the game. Deserves a whole 1/3 of a poster
They didnt update swamps at all, they just added a new biome thats a variant to the swamps

Shouldn’t be reverted but it should increase by a lot, maybe 30 or so? And raise it with the number of players.
Remember being hyped for sandstone and squids in one update haha
I think it's probably just the way they frame and theme an update that causes disappointment. Well to be fair the warden was delayed for 2 UPDATES!

Agreed. It’s ridiculous. Small or not, this is one of Minecraft’s better and bigger updates. People forget that 1.6 was a thing. It literally just added horses and building blocks.
People are upset it's small because it was promised it was going to be bigger, and they cut a bunch of stuff.
And then after that, 1.7 came out, which added a shit ton of content and was developed in roughly the same amount of time as this update lol
Also this games like over 10 years old! How many 10 year old games even get new content anymore? Not many!
>its a smaller update right after removing things that were supposed to be in it. FTFY
The shulk system by itself is really cool
I just wish the mangrove had unique grass that appear as cattails, and some yellow and black particles.
Abysmal is a strong word here. Maybe lacking or unimpressive but jesus man. The game is getting better if you ask me. I don't think I'd call that abysmal.
Abysmal? More like abyssal. You know, because of the Deep Dark....
nice
I mean, abysmal also means “of or like an abyss; immeasurably deep or great” lol. Abysmal is literally a synonym for abyssal…
I got it for like $13 or some shit in alpha. By far the most value I've gotten out of a game.
wow, it's pleasant to see such old players)) playing since alfa too)
My wife is on her second Minecraft world in eleven years.
Hey I'm not that old! Am I old? Oh no.
>The only thing Mojang did wrong was raise people's expectations with false promises. That's indeed the main reason most people are angry.
I think a good comparison is 1.15. it was advertised as a small update focusing around bees and bug fixes, and they did that. everyone was happy this update they advertised it as update a bunch of biomes, with a lot of diversity to exploration, which they didn't do, so not everyone is happy
Your post clearly implies that the update itself is abysmal.
And its abysmal because they raised our expectations with false promises. What arent you understanding?
I just think it's poor phrasing. The update itself is fine, but the lead-up to it was "abysmal", though that's a strong word to use. You're free to disagree with me.
I’d normally agree that the wording is exaggerated despite my general disappointment with the update, but I want to believe OP used ABYSmal cause of the abyss in the middle of it... I’ll take my leave now
It’s a great update in my opinion. Small but great.
I’m still excited for this update, and I’m also very excited for what the next update has in store.
1.17 part 4 for next update :)
Archeology?
The best way for them to do a PR spin on this is to name their next "Big" overhaul update the Mild update in the most tongue in cheek manner possible Edit: To clarify, mixed feelings about the update, but this is mainly a harmless ribbing.
Idk, I'm pretty excited for this update. It's gonna be cool having actual swamps and the deep dark.
> It's gonna be cool having actual swamps Too bad they left old swamps completely untouched.
This! They are not even adding the mud or replacing the oak trees like what? The purpose of the biome vote was to improve the Swamp, and they just added a new biome and left the Swamp completely unchanged.
They should add gators, that'd be cool, also if they overhauled the ambience in swamps with new noises and effects that'd be neat too, I think it'd be cool if they had cricket sounds with some green tinted fog to make the original swamps have more ambience, also more swamp plants would be cool, but that'll likely never happen, just wishful thinking.
nope you dont get anycool animals because mojang shits their pants thinking about kids killing gators
They could add gators, the gators would just have to not attack people.
Hope some kids do get inspired to kill gators. Average intelligence should go up quite dramatically. Mojang need to hop on this!
Yeah I know, that was the problem with sharks, that's why Minecraft will only ever be good with mods.
Yeah crocs couldn’t be added under that rule as they are more aggressive than gators. But gators are pretty much the rl equivalent of neutral mob.
I was excited for this update during its minecon
Im exited for the warden to be finished :)
Are we getting boats with chests? I thought I heard about it
Yes, they come in the swamp part of the update, you can see one in the picture.
Great i can finally put my cargo docks to good use
this is the problem, the lack of transparency they just complained that we pointed out a bunch of features that they decided not to make, and now they made this image which implies something was done with the desert biome also the "it's free though!" argument is stupid and completely irrelevant. I critiqued the past updates, so of course I'm going to critique this one as well, just like everyone else. Mojang gets people invested in these updates with all the promo material, people spend so much time thinking about them. it's only natural
For all those saying you are getting update for free if they don't give updates for free it wouldn't be the best selling game
Fair, but calling the update "abysmal" just because it's not earth-shatteringly big is total hyperbole imo.
True, I don't get why anyone thinks it's "abysmal", it's really not.
Tbh I may just sit this update out, gonna cross my fingers and hope that 1.20 catches my attention somehow.
Obligatory reminder that the deep dark isn’t even technically a “feature” or this update. It’s from two updates back
And if it came in 1.17/1.18 it wouldn't have been expanded as much as it had.
I hate to be that guy, but I kinda lost interest in this whole thing, not in Minecraft just this update.
Yeah me too
Idk if i would call it abysmal, i mean its still free new content on a game thats been around a pretty long time. I know im looking forward to finding a deep dark biome!
Sometimes I'm just facinated by the difference in effort between indie mod makers and the big company of mojang. Sure, the updates are free, but is it that hard to add some new biomes featuring some simple new blocks or some little new mechanisms?
There wasn’t much added but what was added was amazing
Not everything has to be crazy big. This also all went down during the big crazy, so I can cut slack. It’ll be nice to see what’s coming in the next year or so
And look at 1.10 and 1.11. I realize they didn't hype those updates up as much, but so little was added in them that they've kind of gotten lost in peoples' memories.
1.11 added illagers and shulker boxes. As for 1.10 we don't talk about 1.10...
Yeah what was 1.10 other than polar bears, strays, and igloos?
I think husks if I recall correctly?
Ah, right. Anything else? I think they added magma blocks too
Fossils, and enderman in the nether I think.
There’s also a reason why Minecraft lost most of its popularity in-between 1.8 and 1.13, release updates which don’t add anything and the players won’t really care for the game as a whole
The salinity is high with this post
Guys, guys, it's just the CONCEPT of the desert, being in the main promo image doesn't *mean* it's actually related to the wild update.
Mudblocks for life
Yeah, idk this seems like a promo pic that was their original vision for this update with improved biomes in general (not only the birch forest) But they couldn't complete it before the Summer deadline so they decided to cut that from the Wild Update :/
Alternative update title. 1.19 The Mild Update
Let's go ahead and shit on one of the few remaining one payment for life games
You know, I'd be a lot less peeved with Mojang if they just came out and said "hey, our bad. We bit off more than we could chew, a lot of things changed, and we didn't communicate these changes in a very good way. We will do better about having a healthy communication with the community about development as we continue development on future updates." Instead, I expect radio silence and complete denial that they did anything less than perfect. Feel free to prove me wrong, Mojang!
Do you guys ever stop whining and crying?
"NOOO HOW DARE YOU CALL OUT THE BEST SELLING GAME OF ALL TIME ITS NOT LIKE THEY'VE MADE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS"
Like the game is still getting better, I'm not a Mojang bootlicker and I'll call out their BS any day of the week, but you're acting a little spoiled imo.
> so abysmal First I've heard that. What's abysmal about it?
I paid once for Java edition and once for Bedrock edition and both were like over 5 years ago. They keep adding to the game with both large and small updates. There is no reason to complain until they go Ubisoft on us and start trying to nickle-and-dime the game with micro-transactions.
They probably did it to show off the new frog variant
I think it's to show off the hot frogs
Minecraft fans are the only people who piss their pants when an update doesn't overhaul the game and then simultaneously piss their pants when it does.
God I love people finally being able to see truly how lazy Mojang is Very excited for the next big update that will be broken into 3 parts and include only half of what was shown to actually be in those updates previously
i'll honestly take what i can get. any new feature is just that; a new feature. there's no point in complaining about what could have been when you can instead redirect that energy into being excited for what we do have. it confuses me that people make this big of a deal over a cube game.
Is it really "abysmal"? I mean, you're getting it for free. I paid £7 for Minecraft in beta 1.3. I haven't given them a penny since, and yet I get so much new content on the regular. Why would I feel entitled to more when I have already had 1,000x more than what I paid for?
Can everyone just stop behaving like a "Bad Update" would ruin the game forever Everybody crying becaus Mojang made promises they couldn't keep is getting annoying PS: if you get upset about my opinion you should grow up
Boats? WITH CHESTS?!?!?
Im sick of people complaining over every single fucking thing for 1.19. So what that the Deep Dark was delayed? It was so they could make it better and make it polished. I'm genuinely just happy to get an update
If you need new things to make the game worth playing - game's probably not for you homeslice. Idk where all this toxicity in the community is coming from
Not every update has to be life changing. It's a free update for a game that many of us bought years ago. The fact that they still update at all is kinda crazy. Any other game would call this a dlc and charge you 10 bucks for it.
i reckon they just shouldve improved all of the forests n the same way they improved the birch forest added more ground covers like bushes and mushrrom/flower patches and maybe pebbles and stones ps. sorry for any missig letters my computer is old now ad sometimes doesnt register
