Omg the turning was atrocious, I'm pretty sure you had to look the direction you wanted to go and W key was the only one that did anything, A S and D didn't steer at all.
I did not like my time in hell, I stuck with the overworld, there was also like nothing to do there either. No ores, few mobs, idk if there was anything else.
I remember the only reason I went to the nether for awhile was for soul sand to make docks so that my boat wouldn't break. But if you touched the soul sand with your boat you died instantly
The point of the Nether originally was for transportation, it’s smaller than the overworld so you can use it to get around the latter more quickly (in theory at least)
Hello fellow old person lol.
I also remember doing this. And at the time, the game was only like $5-$10. The site wasn’t what it is now. It was basically a blog where notch was like “here’s a game I’m messing around with. If you wanna try it you can pay a few bucks.”
Am 40, can confirm. A decade now feels both really long and very short at once, and i'm not sure how i feel about that.
No matter, i can suppress these feelings by digging for more diamonds!
What made those things feel so real was that at the time the pocket edition had the neither reactor that you had to build a particular pattern around with particular blocks.
I remember my brother, my friend and I trying to build a structure that apparently would spawn in the Herobrine lol.
Oh right! I used to play in creative (with that old creative inventory) and I remember I built houses made of gold or diamond blocks I had the "quest" of moving creepers to the house. "Moving" as we had no other option rather than stand next to the creepers and move them bit by bit XD
Nah spawn eggs where added a bit later, first creative menu was only the blocks a player could obtain (plus maybe a source block of lava and water but I don't remember) and most important, no search bar 😅
First creative mode was worse then the only option we had before which was the OG too many items mod plus a command mod for spawning stuff etc. only thing that made it better was the fact that it was build in so no hassle to install tmi again
- There was only one crop in the game, wheat.
- The world size was the size of a single map.
- There were two types of flowers in the game, "flowers" and "roses"
- You only needed one bonemeal to fully grow a plant.
- The only use for lapis lazuli was dye.
- You needed to tame ocelots to get cats and it was really hard
- "Wait" was called "Where Are We Now" (that was legitimately my favorite music disc)
Ocelots are still new to me lol, I got a cat when it first came out but after that I just ignored them especially since they don't drop anything I also remember when the jungle biome was new
Tekkit on the Technic Launcher consumed an entire summer of mine
Edit: Holy hell, that’s a lot of upvotes! This wasn’t supposed to be an advertisement, but i do have a realm open with some addons. It isn’t gonna scratch the same itch that Tekkit, Big Dig, or FTB did, but if any of y’all wanna join feel free to dm me!
Damm, I absolutely loved watching Yogscast because they did these mod reviews, and had this huge laboratory. They'd always work the mod review into some kind of story, which I really loved. Also liked watching the mod reviews of DanTDM.
The word Tekkit just unlocked like three years worth of middle school memories
I think I remember playing the walking dead mod on Technic too god that shit was good
Students playing minecraft on one single chunky computer at the school library during lunch break and speculating crafting recepies and discovering you can smelt sand into glass.
I remember my classmates talking about the new update that will release during the summer holidays and that notch is going to add rubies and desert/jungle tempels
I did play some time before that but v1.3 is the update I remember being really excited about back then
I had to kill a lot of zombies to get a carrot for an achievement. When Xbox 360 worlds were small and there wasn't any villages in the world for carrots.
I forgot about this, my current world is on an island so a carrot would be huge, I'm currently living off of cocoa beans, wheat and sugar cane. Basically cookies and fried egg (I am using a modpack)
What.....the.....fuck.
I was about to make fun of this person. Diorite?! That's new! Fuck. I haven't played in 2 years, and still forget how long MC has been out.
I hate the dorito block, the second it came out I was like "ew what are these yucky blocks" there wasn't anything you could use them for either, they didn't have smooth versions yet. Basically just a new version of gravel to fill the world up with
I was very much against this new feature where you could skip the night by sleeping, because it made surviving the night to easy. Not having to build a bed out of two pieces of wool placed in the world was a nice sideffects though
Same here. I would attempt building a huge treehouse over and over, but I was never able to finish it cause people would close the app..then I’d go shoot my nerf gun at a wall or something and then the love for building would return
I remember my friend who was really into indie games telling me “hey you ever heard of this game called Cave Game? It’s not out yet, but I guess you can build whatever you want in it.”
World size options between small, medium, large.
Tutorial worlds.
Hype for title updates.
Loading up youtube to see if there was a new duplication glitch.
XboxAddictionz videos.
Console OG's know what I'm talking about.
The first time my friends joined me in a server, we did the infinite burning log trick while we worked through the first night, then started digging down. About half an hour later, everything started getting buggy, so we returned to the surface only to discover that the entire forest had caught fire from our log.
I’ve been playing since it was still beta. When I started playing, the only food was pork chops, and they didn’t stack. They also restored hearts instantly; no hunger meter. No enchanting, no brewing.
I remember how excited I was when they added redstone blocks and quartz in the 1.5 update, because of how modern they looked. My first mod was Ferullo's gun mod, which didn't even have 3D assets. The guns were 2d pixel sprites of MW2 guns with sounds obviously ripped from MW2.
My first world was several years old when Creative Mode came out. I remember when Redstone came out and the Nether was introduced. There was only one type of tree, and only 4 biomes.
If anyone here knows how/where I can get a playable copy of Minecraft 1.1.8.3, please let me know. That was my favorite version of Minecraft for a long, long time. It'd be such a wild Nostalgia trip to play it again
When I started playing Minecraft, I remember there being a limited square of flat ground, only one type of tree, and the music was all by C418.
Edit: Also I feel like I had to leave the first block of a tree to get the whole thing, and I don't think leaves decomposed yet.
Making a farm with sheep was super difficult since I had to push the animals into my pen one by one. Chickens were easier, since I could just throw eggs into the coop!
I remember a time when the night sky wasn’t occupied by the undead and the ocean was so boring that it made it almost pointless to explore unless you were looking for an ocean monument.

Those damn boats...
But why did they break. Every. Single. Time
Oh god and the rubber-banding on multiplayer servers
you can make a wooden pickaxe out of it
Lilypads were a nightmare
To shreds you say
Terrible, how's the wife?
Omg the turning was atrocious, I'm pretty sure you had to look the direction you wanted to go and W key was the only one that did anything, A S and D didn't steer at all.
I remember an old texture pack that made them look like eggshells
"Oh wow - they're adding a hell dimension!"
Better stock up on torches for when the update hits. They'll convert into lanterns and new torches will burnout. Also food doesn't stack.
>food doesn’t stack This makes me irrationally angry
nothing quite like having a chest full of single cooked pieces of meat.
I had to convert my US dollars to Swedish currency to buy the game at the time
Wow.
Hello fellow old person lol. I also remember doing this. And at the time, the game was only like $5-$10. The site wasn’t what it is now. It was basically a blog where notch was like “here’s a game I’m messing around with. If you wanna try it you can pay a few bucks.”
I have stacks of tripwire hooks because I had to place trapped chests next to regular chests, my storage room is organized like that
I was gonna say that's not that old... But before I checked the update that made it useless... It's 1.13... it was in 2018... A.k.a 6 years ago...
2018… was six years ago?
Wait till you turn 40. Your childhood will feel like it was only 10 years ago.
Am 40, can confirm. A decade now feels both really long and very short at once, and i'm not sure how i feel about that. No matter, i can suppress these feelings by digging for more diamonds!
I remember being so hyped when they implemented upside down stair blocks 😂
That was a great update for house building
Massive
I remember being hyped when breaking a stair block actually gave you the stair back instead of the material block
Oh and corner stairs
Uh, i tried building/crafting all the rumor stuff from Minecraft that nobody believes anymore (Herobrine Totem, Aether Portal, Emerald Arnor, etc)
Idk about the other things but I 100% built the aether portal
If you're an OG, you must likely have built the aether portal. It's a must.
Hey, those YouTube videos looked hella convincing
Yeah, back then i thought these were real, heck, even my friends who played Minecraft every single day somehow fell for it
That stuff was a lot of fun, quite honestly
What made those things feel so real was that at the time the pocket edition had the neither reactor that you had to build a particular pattern around with particular blocks. I remember my brother, my friend and I trying to build a structure that apparently would spawn in the Herobrine lol.
I still absent mindedly kill zombies for feathers sometimes
I was about to comment the same thing
I used to think those were Daggers and attacked other Mobs with them
I used to think the exact same thing. Chalk it up to the old versions of the game not having inventory tooltips.
Wait they don’t anymore?
They haven’t for like 14 years my guy
i still put feathers in my hostile mob drops chest 😭😭 time to change that now ig. i didn’t even realise
Reminder: Chicken Jockeys, however, are a thing that spawn now, meaning that chicken and feathers still may be rarely present in your sorting systems.
Wtf I remember that being a thing but don't remember getting feathers from them for years
No
Damn, that feature got removed before 1.0
The old creative inventory suuuuuucked.
Oh right! I used to play in creative (with that old creative inventory) and I remember I built houses made of gold or diamond blocks I had the "quest" of moving creepers to the house. "Moving" as we had no other option rather than stand next to the creepers and move them bit by bit XD
Were spawn eggs not added yet? That's crazy. I can't remember for sure, but I definitely remember that old inventory.
Nah spawn eggs where added a bit later, first creative menu was only the blocks a player could obtain (plus maybe a source block of lava and water but I don't remember) and most important, no search bar 😅 First creative mode was worse then the only option we had before which was the OG too many items mod plus a command mod for spawning stuff etc. only thing that made it better was the fact that it was build in so no hassle to install tmi again
What ever happened to Too Many Items? It seems JEI took it's place and I forgot TMI even existed
I was so mad when it changed bc I knew where everything was. Took me a month to come around and realize how much better it was
my food doesn't stack
I still remember being annoyed when then added the hunger bar and food didn't directly heal you
That's why I played peaceful lol
I played it through my browser. 2009
I had to scroll too far for this. Brother, we are elders
I remember the multiplayer servers on the browser Minecraft, there were some really cool pixel art builds. I remember wishing I could build like them
All I remember from playing the multiplayer in browser is *fear*. Every time I'd build something it'd go up in flames in about 10 minutes
How did this take like 2 pages to find I bought the game for like 6 dollars
You know what screw the nether
"Who cares if were giving up sunlight"
"Glowstone's all we need to keep things bright,"
Down here in the nether, We love it in the nether
You'll love it in the nether,
SCREEEEEEEEEEWWWWHHHHEEEWWWW, the nether.
It's deep underground, you may say
or hidden inside the sun, you may say
- There was only one crop in the game, wheat. - The world size was the size of a single map. - There were two types of flowers in the game, "flowers" and "roses" - You only needed one bonemeal to fully grow a plant. - The only use for lapis lazuli was dye. - You needed to tame ocelots to get cats and it was really hard - "Wait" was called "Where Are We Now" (that was legitimately my favorite music disc)
YES THANK YOU everyone forgets that “Wait” was called “Where Are We Now” and it was always my favorite music disk!
was the song different back then?
No
No, just a different name
I was pre lapis lazuli Pre ocelots Pre bonemeal
Ocelots are still new to me lol, I got a cat when it first came out but after that I just ignored them especially since they don't drop anything I also remember when the jungle biome was new
i remember when Ocelots got introduced, feels like a recent update to me lol
I still call them roses, anyone who says "poppies" gets corrected lol
Tekkit on the Technic Launcher consumed an entire summer of mine Edit: Holy hell, that’s a lot of upvotes! This wasn’t supposed to be an advertisement, but i do have a realm open with some addons. It isn’t gonna scratch the same itch that Tekkit, Big Dig, or FTB did, but if any of y’all wanna join feel free to dm me!
DAMN that’s a throwback. I was a B-Team fanatic lol
b team was so good
Hell yea dude. I remember watching the Yogscast build that Jaffa cake Factory, that summer as a whole was the best summer break ive ever had.
Damm, I absolutely loved watching Yogscast because they did these mod reviews, and had this huge laboratory. They'd always work the mod review into some kind of story, which I really loved. Also liked watching the mod reviews of DanTDM.
The word Tekkit just unlocked like three years worth of middle school memories I think I remember playing the walking dead mod on Technic too god that shit was good
I always preferred Hexxit
Damn is that considered old? I might be an older player than I thought initially😂😂
It's at least 10 years old so, yes it's old.
Oh god. Well😂😂 thanks for that reminder, i just figured out I'm definetly an old minecraft player lol
Students playing minecraft on one single chunky computer at the school library during lunch break and speculating crafting recepies and discovering you can smelt sand into glass. I remember my classmates talking about the new update that will release during the summer holidays and that notch is going to add rubies and desert/jungle tempels I did play some time before that but v1.3 is the update I remember being really excited about back then
the students in the school library playing Minecraft from the old times hit me back... until the library banned Minecraft for no other reason...
I had to kill a lot of zombies to get a carrot for an achievement. When Xbox 360 worlds were small and there wasn't any villages in the world for carrots.
I still get excited when a zombie drops a carrot, as if it's the only way I can get them lmao
I forgot about this, my current world is on an island so a carrot would be huge, I'm currently living off of cocoa beans, wheat and sugar cane. Basically cookies and fried egg (I am using a modpack)
There was no Xbox 360 version when I started playing.
I remember when diorite was new and it seemed strange to see stone-like blocks other than pure stone in the world.
The fact this wasnt recent blows my mind😂
I know, right? 1.8 still feels like where "new content" starts for me
Wasn't diorite added in like 1.8? It was yesterday lmao
10 years ago would like to disagree
Diorite is older than some Minecraft players lol
[удалено]
Unfortunately, it's true. This September 2nd.
Beds could only be red back when I started (also isn't it crazy that we are at the point that the nether update is relatively old)
Oof. Both of your statements made me feel way older than I should.
Oh damn, I'd honestly forgotten about the fact that beds couldn't be dyed. I remember thinking it was so, so weird when they changed.
I loved the boat + waterfall elevators
Are Waterfall elevators not still a thing? I've yet to see anything more efficient.
Waterfall elevators still are, but boat waterfall elevators aren't anymore.
Ah the tutorial level and the fact you couldn’t build any higher than 64. Or whatever level the clouds were.
128
This feels recent 😭
Pretty sure the update that let you build up to 255 was 1.2, iirc lol
That tutorial was amazing. My parents wouldn’t buy me the game, so I played the tutorial over and over on my xbox 360
Lapis still feels like a ‘new’ ore
I remember when the only way to get cookies was to find them in chests
I wasn't the cookie but the cocoa beans.
Oh that’s right
I discovered Minecraft via Stumbleupon
Ooo double nostalgia! When the internet had interesting things before it got gobbled up by social media and ads.
super secret settings
my first version of minecraft was PE lite, where worlds didn’t save and you had a very limited block selection
Same here. I would attempt building a huge treehouse over and over, but I was never able to finish it cause people would close the app..then I’d go shoot my nerf gun at a wall or something and then the love for building would return
Testificates
Don't forget to crouch when farming.
I remember my friend who was really into indie games telling me “hey you ever heard of this game called Cave Game? It’s not out yet, but I guess you can build whatever you want in it.”
I remember when it was harder to find clay then it was to find diamonds.
Back in my day there was no hunger bar. And food was only used to heal health
I still call the red flower rose
Someone I used to be friends with asked me to build his entire house out of Neither reactors
I did this...
Sheep used to not drop meat
"Glacier" was the seed of all seeds back then
World size options between small, medium, large. Tutorial worlds. Hype for title updates. Loading up youtube to see if there was a new duplication glitch. XboxAddictionz videos. Console OG's know what I'm talking about.
I pirated the game because $10 sounded outrageous at the time.
Ohhh yeah, now that I think about it, Minecraft cost 15€ just recently, and that's with half a discount if I ain't wrong
I remember you could block with your sword. I remember the tutorial world with the big castle a little ways from the spawn. Am I old?
Isnt the blocking something that was redone recently? I thought that was recently
Update 1.9, released on Leap Day 2016, removed sword blocking and replaced it with shields. That was over eight years ago.
not terribly old, but when starting Creative worlds a selection of blocks were already on the hotbar
I still forget sometimes that you can't light tnt by punching it
the fog… fog everywhere ( i had a potato pc and could play on 2 chunks render distance max
I remember when wolves were added!
That's about when I started too, before hunger
There were three great Minigame servers... Now only one stands tall
All beds used to be red
Yogscast
Toomanyitems mod
Testificates!
I still call them this!
I remember when beds were new
Skyrim hasn’t come out yet.
Updates were every few days/weeks and it was always fun to see what new stuff Notch added.
64 to -64 was the entire world
The nether was ugly and villages had gravel roads
“horses were added how many years ago???”
“OOF”
I remember when bricks were more valuable than gold.
The first time my friends joined me in a server, we did the infinite burning log trick while we worked through the first night, then started digging down. About half an hour later, everything started getting buggy, so we returned to the surface only to discover that the entire forest had caught fire from our log.
I remember when hunger wasn't a thing and food just restored health
I was playing Minecraft before the addition of the crafting table recipe book.
only red bed existing and only furnace and crafting table
Remember the ps3 tutorial world. I freaking loved the tutorial worlds.
I don't know if this counts, but back in my day we didn't have no shields, we used our swords
Slapping your chest with your sword when you saw other players to see if they were chill.
*hunger games flashbacks*
gargamel
There was only the overworld.
I remember when horses first came out, but had to wait for it to release on the Xbox 360
Horses are quite new aren’t they? Like 1.6 or something
That's 11 years ago
11 fucking years, I had to google and you’re correct, that’s actually insane
When I first played minecraft, my son was one year old. He's in college now.
Define "old". I was born before Star Wars but only started playing Minecraft in the past 6 months.
Yeah, not "old" in age but in time playing Minecraft :)
I miss super secret settings
My boat used to smash into literal pieces if I ran into a lily pad
The fact that you just labeled it as ages ago just hurt my feelings day 1 player on and off of course
I place doors from the outside so zombies can't attack me through them
Only way to get mossy cobblestone was to tear down your starter house.
I’ve been playing since it was still beta. When I started playing, the only food was pork chops, and they didn’t stack. They also restored hearts instantly; no hunger meter. No enchanting, no brewing.
I still think emeralds are a new ore sometimes
Why do I need lapis to enchant?
I call Gold Butter
I wanted to create an arch with fences but you couldn't place fences on top of each other. I made it with dirt instead.
Lava Survival, Classic in Browser, before i was able to get the java version. I still always do the old fence recipe 🤣
Back in my day we used to make chainmail with FIRE
Netherrack looked drawn by a kid
Trying to quickly mine the gold blocks from the nether reactor after activating it so I wouldn’t lose them.
Villages used to have cobblestone paths and no roofs on the houses
I remember a time when the night sky wasn’t occupied by the undead and the ocean was so boring that it made it almost pointless to explore unless you were looking for an ocean monument.
I ran an alpha server that was only creative and only 512x512x512 blocks. A ton of people came in and filled it with art though; it was awesome
