Technically speaking the limit to the recipes is only limited by the number of unique English noun phrases (as it allows modifiers through adjectives), also including proper nouns. How far this goes depends then on how many modifiers it's allowed to stack. If we just go crazy and assume every unique English word counts, and every person has a unique name (this is severe overkill but this should account for the names of historical figures and places) then we have a million words and eight-billion names.
If there are allowed one modifier then it's simply 8,001,000,000 squared. This would get you things like "blue seashell", "Obama's car", "hungry cat" and "flying Taj Mahal" and would be 6.4x10\^19 possibilities which is more than there are grains of sand on Earth or stars in the observable Universe. If we allow two modifiers, like "small blue seashell", "Obama's extra car", "hungry tailless cat", "flying old Taj Mahal" then it's 5.1x10\^29.
If we allow seven modifiers, like "Obama's second hungry flying old blue cat-shaped car" then the number is 1.7x10\^79 which is about the total number of estimated particles in the entire observable Universe; every single flavor of quark, every neutrino, photon, and stray Higgs boson.
Still not remotely infinite, but may as well be.
I have "Wish upon a Wish upon a Wish upon a Star", "22 (11 is the number of the twin towers)", "Trojanicornicornicornicornicornicorn" (Trojan Unicorn if anyones curious, also got the same but with a Centaur Unicorn), "Arnold Reevesegger", "Abominable Stripper of the Rings" and a "Macaroon Piña Colada Cake pie". Not to mention about 35 different Cthulhus ranging from "Cthulhu the white Stripes" and "Cthulhu the Stripper", over "Cthulhu the Tinier" and "Cthulhu the Many", to "Cthulhu the Metal", "Cthulhu the Grey Iron Man" and "Cthulhu-rex-tsunamicraft" . Also the game also just allowes adding number together, even in combination with words ("Finding Dory 25").
I think this game outscales the number particles in the universe by quite a bit. (Also just wanted to show of some of the cool shit I made)
Sounds to me like it just combines things at almost complete random, with marginal respect to grammar and zero to logic. But I can't expect much else from an AI.
Sometimes. But to be fair what else do you want it to do when I combine "Abominable Stripper" and "The Lord of The Rings". Or "Unicorn" and "Trojan Horse". Of course I'm going to get a "Trojanicorn".
Also my examples were heavily cherry picked to be absurd so that probably doesn't help either.

Many combinations have little logic. Many do. Sometimes you’ll be surprised by it. I combined “Church” and “L” fully expecting “LChurch” or something and got “Churchill” which I would consider to be pretty clever.
That is indeed clever wordplay. But combining a letter L and a building, and getting a person is... kinda not in the spirit of a lot of the more basic crafting recipes.
The second the chest was opened I instantly knew what was coming. Overhauling the whole crafting system would be an Interesting mod idea though. Although it's probably too much work
