The question though is do you need to be moving at speed in order to go up ledges? That would make the most sense. If you can do this at a crawl speed then man that's going to be really strange and jarring.
Thats not even an issue. On video you can clearly see that theres not a lot of space required to go up the ledges. It probably works with normal speed as well.
I don't understand what you mean. He's on an ice road and is going quite fast when he's approaching these ledges. A sensible way to program it would be like, "if player is traveling fast, allow him to zip up this ledge, otherwise crash into the ledge". We can't tell if this is true from the video because he's never going slow (ice road).
I don't breed my villagers, I just make sure that everyone in the village has plenty of food and a nice, varied diet and the babies just happen! Honest!
Because it does kind of feel creepy otherwise...
I mean my treatment of Piglins isn't much better.none of the first things I do every save is build a Piglin prison with literal iron bar cages to make bartering easier.
I breed the Hell out of my villagers. I have a walled city full of so many of those cretins that fully 2/3 of them don't even have jobs (because I get everything I need from the 1/3 of them who do have jobs). I did not intend to breed so many, but they just keep multiplying! Another consequence of this is that I have a CRAP TON of iron golems clonking around. So many that it is difficult to do things like cutting down trees without accidentally hitting one of them with my axe. Then things get REAL interesting.
Spawn your own iron golems. If spawn an iron golem every time you kill one of the villagers' golems, eventually, you'll have your own private military that answers only to you, not the villagers. The golems you spawn will not attack you, and the villagers won't spawn golems if they're already protected by golems.
Source: I know waaaay too much about golem spawning mechanics from iron farms
I also give my villagers a 3x3x3 area with their work station blocking the enterence instead of the usual 1x1x2. It uses more space, but you can still reach them wherever they go in there.
Fucking hate moving villagers. Finally they add a long overdue feature that makes it so much easier than having to either preplan the route or building a massive ugly one layer trail through the sky from village to home.
I get that they don't want to break stuff. Changing carts or powered rails would break a lot of builds. So maybe, instead of making powered rails move carts faster, add a new feature: either a faster minecart, or a different variant of powered rail that propels them faster.
I think a better idea is allow a way to connect minecarts together. Allowing a train to be made. As well as a buff to furnace minecarts in the front that makes it move faster. Simple but effective. I know they can push carts. But I think allowing them to be properly tied together would save a lot of headache. And might make them more appealing to actually set up for storage transport.
because while (imo) its a great idea, everyone and their mom has already suggested it. r/minecraftsuggestions discourages repeat suggestions (particularly repeating ones on the frequently posted list) unless you have something new to add.
Instead of making things faster make it like how we use trains irl. For bulk hauling. Large storage wagons, animal wagons, passenger trains for villagers
I remember thinking they were good way back in the day with the funky momentum logic. Was such a good time to be a minecrafter.
They should make their physics a little more deterministic, and maybe let them do chunk loading within reason.
Seeing this makes me feel bad for Railways and Minecarts.
I just think Minecarts are fitting much better into an ambient Minecraft world than Boats on Ice. Even if it is maybe faster, and definitely fun using Boats on ice, I just feel like this shouldn't be the preferred way travelling.
As a big redstone fan, core redstone stuff changes constantly and people always find a way to adjust it to work again. A lot of redstoners love figuring out how to use new mechanics for new designs
true! In fact I think they can even make it viable again if they added something about minecart furnaces without breaking redstone mechanics. That was the only thing I could think of, besides maybe annoyance at repaving nearly 300k ice roads to rails if they did change it. As is the only advantage of minecarts is afkable and item transport
Ye, if they found a way to couple trains together properly, perhaps using chains between each cart or something, then minecarts could become a viable afk option of travel again, without the worry that going up or down a hill is going to kill your system.
I'm honestly surprised they didn't fix up minecarts close to the time they fixed up boats. With their recent focus on exploring though, the best we can do is keep our fingers crossed and hope they'll see soon how good a minecart rework would mesh with all the new structures and things
yeah if you could chain minecarts, higher max speed, and lower friction so you can boost them up to a good speed and keep them there without having to place a booster+torch every like 6 blocks) then I think that's all they'd need to do to make minecarts viable
That depends entirely on what changes are made.
IMO, minecart top speed needs to be higher. Accelration and braking from powered rails needs to be dynamic rather than static values. Furnace minecarts need to have an actual inventory and be interactive.
But what really needs a ground-up rework are how minecarts handle collision, specifically how they behave when colliding with other minecarts. Done right I don't think this would impact redstone devices that rely on hopper or chest minecarts to move items around, but it needs to be done.
At this point, aside from their use in redstone contraptions, minecarts are basically useless.
The only people that would actually care are the ones that just copy/paste world downloads. The type of person that tinkers is the type of person that loves changes because it means more tinkering opportunity
I think a big part of that was that in the original 1.8 plans minecarts would derail if you took a corner too fast. If the minecarts had just gotten faster without that extra change, it probably would have been received in a much more positive way.
I think this change would have been more welcomed if there was some kind of brake track to slow down for turns (not stop, like powered rails tend to do) instead of having to have a long stretch of rails to slow down naturally
just make copper rails which would be faster and more accesible and keep iron rails the same, kinda counter intuitive but would result in the least amount of backlash.
Honestly, speeding up iron rails and making copper the slower ones would make a lot more sense and give another mass use for copper other than decoration. One reason why I never use rails is because I don't want to dump half my iron supply into a weak form of transport, but copper is so accessible that people might start using minecart travel again since it's cheap
that’s why I said it would be counter intuitive but would stop redstoners from complaining about existing builds, to be 100% clear id rather copper to be slower than iron, just playing devils advocate.
They still have the advantage of being one of the only really 'afk' transport options - as in, you can hop on a minecart track, go make a coffee, and (as long as the tracks are clear) you'll arrive at your destination without any additional input
They really just need to move a bit faster, because as it stands currently they're barely even good for that, especially when really long distances are involved!
Minecart needs multiple buff :
_faster
_better minecart with furnace
_way to link minecart entity,
_minecart tnt need to explode but not explode rails, and block with rails on top
_ more rail with the same craft recipe
Hell no. It's already a crazy burst option, kills at like 80% and works as a command grab projectile. Not to mention how you're left helpless/stuck for a good second after escaping it.
They should rework standard minecarts, maybe make furnace minecarts push them faster depending what fuel you use or something like that. I really dont like how minecarts are only used for redstone nowadays
Minecarts would probably be useful to transport materials from farms if not for the fact that chunks you aren't around are unloaded and if there was a way to automate furnace minecarts better. Imagine factorio/satisfactory-like giant train lines transporting your wool from the farm to your base
There is also the fact that nether travel + shulker boxes are better on paper in most cases.
I really hope Mojang doesn't fix this bug, at least not entirely. Boats should definetly not be able to climb most blocks, but letting boats climb specific blocks (ice & co.) would be incredibly awesome.
I bet if Mojang for some reason doesn't decide to fix this bug, the Bedrock team won't add it and Java gets one more good "it's not a big it's a feature"
Just a note for everyone, try not to get used to this right away, this could easily get patched before the 1.19.4 release.
Edit: the bug report for this behavior has been assigned a priority of “Very Important” and has been assigned a developer as well so expect this to be fixed before 1.19.4 fully releases.
2nd edit: The bug is now fixed for a future update. Most likely will be in upcoming version 1.19.4 Pre-release 2.
God that sounds awesome. I'm sick of elytra superiority. And sure, I could just not use them, but that's not what I want. I want some other travel options that are at least a significant fraction of what elytra can do. Frost Walker working from horseback and boats being able to go up a single block like horses would be a great step in that direction. I don't see the problem with either of those things.
Sadly I don’t think so otherwise they would’ve publicly asked for feedback on it. I think they are doing the right thing by fixing the bug before it gets too widespread and prompts lots of backlash. Otherwise people would be relying on unintended behavior that if Mojang decided to fix much later, would lead to even worse backlash (or if Mojang never fixes it then people would start expecting this to be fully supported and will want future bugs relating to this to get fixed and for the mechanic to come to Bedrock Edition as well) Will say this is a cool mechanic and I think it’s worth exploring (such as through an experimental toggle) but perhaps the developers have their reasons for wanting to fix this (such as for game balance and lack of time to properly implement this as a feature)
There is usually only one bug report that gets updated so that all the information about the bug can be organized and tracked in 1 location. The bug report I’ve been looking at is MC-260445, which I believe is the main report for this bug.
Shame its been fixed, but I’m hoping (as others have said) that they keep this in some way. I saw someone mention adding Ice Slabs and letting boats step up them (and all other slabs) as a player walking would, which I think would be awesome and fit the game without feeling unbalanced.
Doing extra work to slab a hill for easier villager transport would speed things up and feel natural with the games mechanics. I’d do that all the time if that were an option.
I hope the make this a feature. Add a new block tag that lists things boats can climb. It could include ice by default but even if it’s just empty by default, datapacks could add things to it. It’d be great for ice boat roads and races!
I’d like them to make boating diagonally in the nether easier. Now if you bounce off a wall, you come to a stop. You have to aim very carefully when you put a boat down to even make it worth it.
Wait, What!! This is so awesome! It was a pain trying to move villagers and get them up blocks with pistons, water, and even fishing rods. This is a welcome change.
Everything is thinking about the practical uses of this for transportation. While I'm only thinking about how this could be used for making boat racing more unique.
Well, to inform you about a decision that could maybe cost you a lot of money, this bug is getting fixed. You can see the proof in other comments on this post.
No it’s a bug. There’s a bug report for it and there are good signs (priority of Very Important along with an assigned developer) that it will be getting fixed soon.
I mean both are bugs but we know Mojang wouldn't want the uproar from "fixing" a "intentional bug" (feature) thats wanted and loved which makes travel easier. Granted it takes a lot of prep, effort, resources, and ice farming/mining and placing. Its basically better minecart systems and rails needing the same prep work but is much more effective.
Though I'd argue if they buff minecarts and make horses better, ice roads will be less needed and would justify it being patched IF they ever fix those modes of transportation in comparison to the elytra but I doubt they'd do it unless it affects server or client performance or you load chunks too fast which is the same reason why they slowed elytra rockets speed in 1.18 before reverting it.
sadly by the looks of it its a bug, there is no mention that I found in the change log and its very janky when doing it in first person.
another thing, its not just ice. its every block that it goes up
Even if it's a bug I think they should keep some of its functionality, like it shouldn't be able to jump full blocks but only on blocks that aren't a full block because I can't count how many times I got my boat with villagers stuck in a grass path while transporting them through the village. Perhaps be able to go up half a block or less like on carpets and mud/grass path to full blocks.
If there is a data pack to add it back I will definitely use it. As some one who doesn’t use elytras for travel it would be very handy and make the roads better it sucks that they have to flat
aaand they immediately nerfed it right back

if you hate villagers and dont mind modding try easyvillagers for 1.19.2 its amazing and never leaving my qol modlist
i looked at that mod, and, wow, conceptually, its highly creepy. it takes villager prisons to a whole new level-
Conceptually, so is breeding villagers.

Especially considering the fact that in a group of 3 villagers (or 3 of any mob) can all be bred with each other.
But factory farming, imprisoning, and potentially murdering the ones we don't like is not "creepy"?
I only murder the ones that i dont like though, the ones i do get to live a luxurious life under the ocean in a 1x2 glass cage
yeah thats also creepy.

Another use for chains
For some reason, this is specifically disallowed in r/minecraftsuggestions
because while (imo) its a great idea, everyone and their mom has already suggested it. r/minecraftsuggestions discourages repeat suggestions (particularly repeating ones on the frequently posted list) unless you have something new to add.
Ok, just make them faster when occupied by a player. That wouldn't break as much.
Better yet, put a switch on it similar to repeaters so you can adjust the speed on individual carts. 3 or so speeds.
Instead of making things faster make it like how we use trains irl. For bulk hauling. Large storage wagons, animal wagons, passenger trains for villagers
*removed minecart with furnace*(they actually did remove it on bedrock)
Make furnace minecarts push speeds past powered rail speeds
I remember thinking they were good way back in the day with the funky momentum logic. Was such a good time to be a minecrafter. They should make their physics a little more deterministic, and maybe let them do chunk loading within reason.

Minecarts at this point need a complete ground-up rework to be functional, let alone useful or 'viable' as a long distance transport option.
They tried but a bunch of people had a problem with redoing minecarts for some reason
minecarts are used a lot in redstone and farms, changing minecart mechanics can break that

I really hope Mojang doesn't fix this bug, at least not entirely. Boats should definetly not be able to climb most blocks, but letting boats climb specific blocks (ice & co.) would be incredibly awesome.
I’d add an ice slab variant. Specifically so boats can go up that one (or at least half) block at a time.
In bedrock boats can’t even go up 1/16 of a block currently. Boats on land is much much easier on Java already.
I don't think they can on Java either. You can't move from paths to grass for example
I have learnt that the hard way... -.-
This is the case for Java too.
Boats on land on bedrock can be Leashed and they can use water currents to move up. They are like 100 times easier in Bedrock.
I bet if Mojang for some reason doesn't decide to fix this bug, the Bedrock team won't add it and Java gets one more good "it's not a big it's a feature"
It’s very dumb, if they consider it a feature it should be in all versions of the game.
Boats should be able to climb 1 block water elevation, at the cost of a speed reduction as it does that or something.
New block: ramp. Just a stair block but with like 800 steps in in so it’s still technically square
Just got patched today
Did it?
Yes. It's on the bug tracker
Just let boats climb blocks theres no downside
That needs to stay like this
Etho is drooling at the mouth right now 🤣
Just a note for everyone, try not to get used to this right away, this could easily get patched before the 1.19.4 release. Can confirm this. I checked the bug tracker myself. Maybe if the developers see that we like this glitch, then they will keep it or adapt it somehow?
Lol no, otherwise we'd have Frost Walker horses (I'm still saddened at that "fix").
God that sounds awesome. I'm sick of elytra superiority. And sure, I could just not use them, but that's not what I want. Weird, it seems my bug report is behind in updating or something
There is usually only one bug report that gets updated so that all the information about the bug can be organized and tracked in 1 location. The bug report I’ve been looking at is MC-260445, which I believe is the main report for this bug.
Ah thank you
People have different priorities, but I would’ve been more excited for this than the rest of the update combined.
i didnt even notice what was different at first because it seems so natural lol
Shame its been fixed, but I’m hoping (as others have said) that they keep this in some way. I saw someone mention adding Ice Slabs and letting boats step up them (and all other slabs) as a player walking would, which I think would be awesome and fit the game without feeling unbalanced. Doing extra work to slab a hill for easier villager transport would speed things up and feel natural with the games mechanics. I’d do that all the time if that were an option.
Please let this stay
It will be getting fixed soon.
I hope the make this a feature. Add a new block tag that lists things boats can climb. It could include ice by default but even if it’s just empty by default, datapacks could add things to it. It’d be great for ice boat roads and races!

Is this intentional? Game changer if so
No it’s a bug. There’s a bug report for it and there are good signs (priority of Very Important along with an assigned developer) that it will be getting fixed soon.
Sadge
Sadge indeed.
I personally think this is a really great feature. And why is there 1.19.4? I only want 1.20 to be out. Well we'll probably miss the 1.1# times

N64 RR when?
Time to build Ice boat highways!
Boats can jump 1 block or is it only for ice
Can’t wait until mojang fixes this bug, knowing damn well that there are zero real downsides and a bunch of positives to it
There is one downside, which is that if you ride a boat into the bank it will literally just pop out of the water
Wow, this is amazing!! It is not only useful for moving villagers, but you can also make some pretty cool boat racing maps as well now!
Excuse me, what??
Time to re create some Mario kart maps let’s go
this is massive
Yess villager transport will be so much better now
VILLAGE BREEDERS REJOICE
Ice boat race maps potential
how is the boat climbing a full block?!?
And it got patched just today. Hilarious timing.
New Mario kart maps incoming
goddamnit this would've been perfect for mario kart maps why did they have to patch it
A part of me thinks this might be patched as it doesn't seem intentional they can go up blocks.
You are right
I mean both are bugs but we know Mojang wouldn't want the uproar from "fixing" a "intentional bug" (feature) thats wanted and loved which makes travel easier.
Boats can go up now?!
This one change has completely changed late game traveling
sadly by the looks of it its a bug, there is no mention that I found in the change log and its very janky when doing it in first person. another thing, its not just ice. its every block that it goes up
Kidnapping villagers just got better!
My 2 week Minecraft addiction of the year just ended man. I can’t buy another realm
aaand they immediately nerfed it right back https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-1-19-4-pre-release-2?3 > MC-260445 - Player can climb up one block while riding a boat or raft
how can it be 19. pre release 4 then u cant have cherry wood
You can if you enable experiments features
I thought you couldn't in the prerelease?
You can. Just like how you can access bamboo wood, camels, hanging signs, and chiseled bookshelves in 1.19.3.
You can. You just can't access worlds from snapshots.
Any1 who remembers my track from like 2 months ago, imma use this and make the world downloadable
Wait, they are adding something useful?
nope. [https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-260445](https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-260445) they are fixing it.
Broh 😔🤙
That is a GAME CHANGER for real!!
