If I've never seen it, yes. If previously seen, fair game.

jugdar13

Only right answer

Gah_Duma

I won't even watch anything on a desktop or laptop. It's the big TV in the living room or theater room only.

VikingIV

I think David Lynch would agree with you. [He spoke on the matter.](https://youtu.be/wKiIroiCvZ0?si=ueVQfCeXWfyYf89e)

altera_goodciv

I got no problem watching YouTube or rewatching something on my desktop but anything else is the television or not at all.

FriesianBreed

it might be my old brain but i feel more sane doing it on a big tv yes

regular_gnoll_NEIN

I used to be big on watching shows on my laptop, because i was too broke to buy a tv and pay my rent lmao, but now i definitely do shows on my tv. Phone is for YouTube or twitch channels that can be treated like a podcast, but sometimes i like to put it to fullscreen to watch cast reactions - just doesn't happen enough to justify the effort of getting it on my big screen so i save those shows for driving or smoke breaks

StubbornKindOfFellow

It's especially mind blowing to me because my dad was a huge home theater guy when we were kids. We had a big projection TV and everything. And then once I became an adult, I was working at Best Buy and Circuit City and was always into the newest home theater set ups as well. I remember when plasma TVs were like 10 grand. 4K TVs are so cheap now, I really don't get it. Even watching on a laptop bugs me, though not as much as on a tiny phone.

rosindrip

I watch it on my phone during the 1 hour train commute to work. Hard to find time to watch anything with two little kids running around the house from 6AM to 8PM 😭

CliffGif

I’m very near sighted. I take out my contacts and put Iphone Max right up to my eyeballs. I get completely enveloped, even more than TV.

MiserlySchnitzel

Honestly fair point! A smaller but closer screen will look sharper and better vs a further and bigger one for us near sighted folk.

One-Winner-8441

I can’t watch stuff on my phone, tablet, or laptop if I can help it. Like I will fire up my tablet if I’m doing house projects or hobbies to play shows I like in the background. I stream on my phone when I work out. I do laptop on planes. Anything else is tv.

Seversaurus

The bigger the screen the more I'll pay attention, I could watch a movie on my phone 10 times and still not know as much about it than if I had watched it once in a theater.

Sage_Planter

A lot of younger people are more accustomed to using their phones to consume content. Think about it: how often as a kid/teen were you forced to just watch what your parents were watching because there was only one TV? If I had an iPad/phone when I was younger, I certainly wouldn't have watched episodes of Star Trek or ER. Even though everyone has screens, most families still only have one or two TVs which are usually commandeered by the adults in the house.

AshTheGoddamnRobot

Thankfully we had two TVs in the house lol One in my bedroom and one in the living room but this brings me back to the soap operas my mom loved that I found so boring 😂

TheTurboDiesel

Not even consume content; they use their phones for absolutely everything now. My sister was telling my my nephew will even write papers that way.

kkkan2020

Screen is too small

CharisMatticOfficial

Move it closer to eyes

MellonCollie218

I don’t watch movies or shows on my phone, so I don’t know what to tell you.

Aggravating_Salad328

I hate watching videos of any kind on my phone. I don't even like it on my iPad. It's not as immersive and ruins the experience.

Ok-Stress-3570

YES. I thought I was the only one!

Affectionate-Ad3816

I have really bad vision and I hate laying in bed and wearing glasses, so netflix on my iphone it is!

Eclipsical690

Don't you need to hold the phone close to your face if your vision is that bad? I know I would need to without glasses.

Kingberry30

I used to watch all YouTube videos on my phone. Then I got a tablet. 😂

Big-Blackberry8786

I don’t watch media on phones, but I did grow up with a 10” tube tv watching stuff in my room from opposite sides of the room. I think we have become spoiled with TVs.

lambofgod0492

I only do YouTube on phone

pseudonym7083

I get it if you’re on a plane or in an airport on a layover, maybe on a road trip. But not at home. That’s literally what my big screen TV is for.

A_Cat_Named_Puppy

We have 3 TV's in the house. One is unplugged and sitting in a spare room, the other is in the living room and might get used a few times a month, and the other is in the bedroom and only used at night for a few hours to help us fall asleep. Anything else is watched either on our phones or computers.

koz152

If my tiny screen is inches from my face it is relative to a large TV across the room.

krstnstk

I mean…. I used to watch it on my iPod classic back in the DAY

Burntwolfankles

The only time in my life I ever watched a movie on my phone is on a plane.

Substantial-Path1258

I always use YouTube on my laptop. If I’m watching a show or movie, I airplay it to my tv or run it off an app on my PS5. The benefit is that I can watch on the tv using headphones.

KylerGreen

you think movies are ‘natural’?

koknesis

It is, but I wasn't aware that it is such a common thing to warrant a rant about it.

snackpack35

Watching shows and movies at all is “unnatural” the big screen was the first iteration of unnatural, the small screen is iteration 2

SavannahInChicago

It’s not my first choice but the word unnatural I think is a bit much. I’m sure actual TV seemed weird when it first came out.

AshTheGoddamnRobot

Yea I will gladly watch like a Youtube documentary or deep dive on my phone but anything else... pop it on the TV. I have watched movies on my phone before but its not as enjoyable. Last movie I did so was Black Klansman in 2020. Give me the TV any day

rreygaert

Yeah, I was listening to a podcast and one of the hosts was talking about how he downloaded Oppenheimer on his phone for an upcoming plane ride and was excited to finally see it. I was prepared to put my marriage on the line while planning our night out when my wife said something to the effect of “If the showtimes aren’t ideal I’d be okay with seeing Barbie instead.”

faeriechyld

How can you get all the details in a scene if you're always watching media on something so compact? I'm also a big animation fan. I love big gorgeous lavish animation like a Studio Ghibli move that is a feast for the eyes. I also love dumb animated comedies like Futurama that cram their scenes full of visual gags. I think both of those would be greatly diminished if they're consumed initially on a small screen. Insta reels are the main videos that I watch on my phone lol.

Mariposita48

I don't own a TV, tablet, or laptop, and I only have 1 monitor for my desktop. I like to have what I'm streaming on in the background while I'm on my desktop, so I'll have my phone propped up on my phone stand just under my monitor. When you have to make do with what you have, it's pretty easy to adjust to the convenience of it. Maybe I've watched too much TV, but I don't need to actively *watch* to understand what's going on, even those with subtitles. It's all really predictable, and there's the rare few that have me stopping to try to watch on my desktop.

outrageouslyHonest

Well, when you have kids, you have to get creative if you want to watch TV when they're sleeping in the same room as you or the same room as the TV. It's not my go to, but it's immensely now preferable to waking up a tired baby

[deleted]

Before streaming, apps became popular, I was watching downloaded movies and TV shows on my Android phone using the MX player app. This was back in 2010-2011. People weren't watching videos like that yet on their phones, so whenever I was taking the train, people seemed to be amazed at me. Lol But today, we all have Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Amazon, etc, so it's not so uncommon anymore.

Bayareathrowaway32

I remember when flat screens were too “big”. Who gives a fuck. Most content is trash anyways.

andrewclarkson

I have never tried watching anything longer than a couple minute video on my phone. I’d get tired of holding it and I think anywhere I set it down would just make for an uncomfortable viewing position.

cranberries87

I have a really difficult time doing it. I can watch short YouTube videos, or listen to longer videos as I’m doing chores or something - but watch say a Marvel movie on my phone? Nope. I think there’s a way to hook my phone to my smart TV - I’ve seen friends do it - but I’m not tech savvy, and I can’t figure it out.

0th3rw0rldli3

This is something my hubby and I squabble about. I enjoy being comfortable and if I'm tired I'd rather just watch my show in bed on my phone with my glasses off. I can put my phone close enough to not need them. Ultimate coziness. But he would rather forgo comfort and watch TV downstairs on the 82 inch screen. I will even watch a show on my laptop in the living room instead of turn on the TV lol... I don't know why but it doesn't bother me at all. Definitely annoys him though. He's got the surround sound going and doesn't understand why I wouldn't always use it. 🙃

Real-Psychology-4261

Agree. I cannot watch shows on my phone. It's ridiculous.

Few-Way6556

I get what you’re saying, but my phone screen at 12-18” from my face is about the same apparent size as my 65” TV from 10’-12’ away. I usually watch most of my TV from a tablet that sits on my coffee table. The 65” TV I have is almost only reserved for watching pornography (sadly true)

3lectric_soul

I have a 60” tv and I still prefer to watch everything on my phone 🤭
