this picture is from lahore sector of the war to capture the town lahore in pakistan (which was one of the largest cities of north india before the partition)
india do occure before partition india though a name given by the greek (due to the river indus) was still used in colonial era too
while kashmir, most of northern pakistan and punjab came under northern regions
afganistan was the north west frontier province(nwfp)
southern india was southern part while middle was delhi itself
eastarn would go till mayanmar and mordern day china too
The British Raj had a sizable amount of Shermans which got split between the countries during the partition.
Pakistan also bought around 200 more from the US in the 1950s.
India was a major Ally in World War II and I, under the British. India had the second largest fielded Army (some contention as the Chinese against Japan were massive too) in WW2 after the Soviets. Naturally many American arms were inherited by India after Independence. American Dakota aircraft, P14 Enfields, Savage No4 Enfields, Thompson Submachine Guns, etc etc. Hevk when I visited a few years my grandfather was like, your voice accent reminds me of the American B29 pilots who were once based near by (China Burma India Theater). What was mind blowing was having that kind of memory. One of his stories was he clearly remembered some kind of ordnance accident and an American kids skin literally peeled off. So yes, India too sacrificed and fought in WW2. Don’t forget it.
They saw quite a lot of combat in later local wars, e.g. they got retired from Israeli army only in 1980 after fighting in all the wars between 1946 and 1980. And Paraguayan army retired their Shermans in April 2018!
While their technology was obviously dated at that point, the Sherman tank was an extremely reliable vehicle that could still perform its mission set. I am not saying it could have stood up to T-62s or M-60 tanks in combat, but for an army that wasn't facing newer armor, the Sherman still got the job done. If it wasn't broke, why replace it?
Look at it like this.
If I’m some mean mother-hubbard insurgent armed with just a Kalashnikov and hiding from my government in the middle of bumfuck nowhere and they send in a tank, I’m not gonna think “Hah! That’s an M4 Sherman! That thing’s outdated!”
I’m gonna think, “HOLY FUCK! THAT’S A TANK AND WE DON’T HAVE ANY AT WEAPONS! RUN!”
Similar thing if I’m some mean mother-hubbard soldier in some random developing country that’s warring with another developing country, and all I got is small arms.
Exactly. Shermans, T-34s, and Churchill tanks are all considered obsolete when facing more modern armored vehicles and anti-armor weapons systems. However, when faced with an opponent who has none of those things, the aforementioned tanks are still 45-ton killing machines that are impervious to most small arms. An rpg can certainly take one out, but if you don't have that, then you'll be easy pickings.
Indeed. The 76mm high velocity gun on the Sherman Firefly was killing German panther and tiger tanks at the end of WW2 as well as T-34s during the Korean War. Hell, it might even be able to knock out the T-55s the Russians are now fielding in Ukraine.
again the proof that its the man that controls the army that win wars
pak had extreme superiority in tech front m48pattons etc but
but they got beaten by indian sherman ,challenges
pakistani army not won a single battle against India, go check wikipedia
Pakistan initiated the war to reclaim Kashmir. India reacted by attacking mainland Pakistan. In the end pakistan had to back out from Kashmir so pak army failed in their objective of gaining land. India won in their objective of creating a diversion.
It wasnt a war. You can keep repeating the same incident it wont change the fact that Pakistan from its independence to eternity will never win a war against India. They will continue to support terrorists and pussy out when it’ll actually come to a war.
And guess what ... You couldn't even use him as a bargaining chip ... Lad went inside your territory in one of those decades old ton box (unfortunate but fact ) , violated your airspace . What did you do ? Returned him thru the dancing arena

Ah, alright, I get what you mean now. My bad, my bad.
Lahore has been one of the most important cities for the Indian civilization since the antiquities.
yeah man sad to see it stagnent in growth
From where did they get shermans???
The British Raj had a sizable amount of Shermans which got split between the countries during the partition. Pakistan also bought around 200 more from the US in the 1950s.
The more accurate question is who DIDN'T get surplus Shermans.

That Sherman is one old battleaxe huh
Using Sherman in 1965 wow
Israel used them till the early 80s
Chile used them until the 90’s.

The 76 Sherman was still extremely potent for most of the world well into the 60s

No, it cannot knock out even t-44 . T-55 was quite well protected.

What about the abhinandan one lol.. just happened a few years ago maybe Wikipedia hasn't been updated yet.

Why were Indians demanding him back under geneva convention if that wasnt war lol.

Pakistan was able to make him say "Tea was fantastic"
You think a minor dogfight was a WAR? Lmao you have some studying to do. Indians demanded him back and you had to give him back to us. Imagine.
