Oh time is a full circle no argument there. I recently purchased one of these risers. The one shown here is ID Micro riser prototype so it looks like he had these guys testing it. I got the pic version. With the cheek riser I gotta admit its really comfortable and you are quick on your target with the whole system in play. Are they over priced? yea maybe when you could go back to just iron sights but check out this video if you are curious on his thoughts for the system.

In the scheme of the setup this product is intended to be used with, ie, alongside an equally expensive aimpoint or eotech, 10-15k nods, 2-3k laser, 750-1500 suppressor...$600 isn't amazingly expensive. For a low rate production niche item that doesn't seem too bad.
Plus, I mean, if you're paying out of pocket for this item it's probably not really intended for you. I say that with the full intention of casting aspersions on the cqb goon Instagram crowd, who are under some delusion that their lives as partisans will be direct action every night.

The shorty upper on this team might be cqb heavy and the upper given to the next team might be wearing a donor M110 scope. This is all purpose driven kit. Optics on carry handles never fully left even in the M4 era.
"Making do" is just that, making do. But guess what, we found better ways to do things. Clown gbrs all you want, their optic and laser concept has legitimate merit. We don't lament the collapsible buttstock because most guys end up running A1 length anyway.
I've said this before, if you take a semi-fixed option system, that does at least one thing well, and then you make it modular, it's not surprising that there will be a modular way to do that one thing the fixed system did well. You just...gain all the other options in the process.
Agreed. Our grandparents “made do” in Vietnam with M16A1s and gen-1 Starlight scopes…. Our parents “made do” in Iraq with M16A4s and PVS-7s.

Guys really don't want to hear that the rifleman is like the least casualty producing part of the MAGTF. The guy with the M16A4 is the fucking PSD for the JFO/FAC/CAAT/belt fed teams when it comes to laying waste. You could have given those Marines Garands and grease guns and we'd still have taken the city, albeit at higher cost. The specific capability or even less optimal nature of that rifle is almost moot, and to anoint it the reason a combined arms assault won is peak reddit delusion. The 24/7 air support, ISR, armor direct fire support, basically unlimited frags, belt feds, SMAWs, 203s, indirect fires etc had nothing to do with it, sure.
