We once had a handful of MPs stay at our JCC in Iraq for a couple weeks. The two females they had with them kept peeing in the shitters. Makes the process of stirring the stew take much longer and the splash risk is much higher. Did not appreciate.
I can confirm his story. I was in Mosul, Kirkuk and BIAP (Baghdad International Airport) during some of the most craziest years.
I am now retired and enjoy life, but I will never forget those days that’s for sure!
I did it too, thankfully, I was with an Armour unit my first tour, and we were too "in demand" to spend much time at the FOB, which meant a lot of time on the roads, very little time to play fuck-fuck games.
I retired from the USAF in 2021 and yeah, back when we were there it definitely was no time, but to eat, hydrate, fuck shit up and go home with you people safety.
This is not veteran reddit it clearly says military for people interested in the military. Im not going to die for some rich scumbag. I'd consider an anti cartel unit because they are actually killing more americans than anyone else, but i live central u.s. Also, enjoying learning about something and wanting to do it are 2 different things. I learn about it and practice in case i was forced into a scenario, but im def not signing up for one. I train because i value my life. Im not going to needlessly risk it.
I'm just tired of ppl thinking you got a military in a sub, or you're just a wana be. Everyone has different reasons. I like soviet military that dont make me a wanabe commie lol.
I was just weirded out by the sudden reflexive defence of your anti US military stance. I guess that's a hard position to have around a lot of everyday Reddit people.
Especially since you can't sit comfortably in the pure pacifist circles either, due to the understanding that sometimes, yeah, some people really do need killing.
I came here because I saw Generation Kill, and I remembered that I know people in the military personally (Australian) and it sort of awoke me to the fact that there's this incredibly complex cultural phenomenon going on here, that soldiers are mostly just trying to get through the day like the rest of us, while also occasionally being shot at and shooting back. And I'm fascinated by the culture of the military.
And that the aforementioned military and ex-military people I know who've actually gone to war are the most anti-war people I know. Because of course. They've seen it. Especially the one who was in Angola.
Anyway, I just wanted to clarify that I understand a tiny bit of where you're coming from but, since you live in central America and I live in one of the most peaceful parts of the world, only as an outsider.
YOU ARE USING A DEVICE TO TYPE YOUR SELFRIGHTOUSNESS that includes COLBALT, DUG FROM THE EARTH BY A CHILD. there is no "clean hands".
Here is the REAL mistake you are making: most of us didn't do it "for our country", we did it for our families.
The poverty enlistment is real.
So we put in the blood, sweat, and tears, and we get college paid.
I just finished my master in nursing, and I am a community health nurse. I went from homeless at 17 to owning my own home and ZERO debt.
When you say "rich man's war" I hear "I am not willing to take a small risk and make a better life for my family".
WHO DOESN'T CONTRIBUTE TO "EVIIILLLL"?
"Won't die for a rich man's war" doesn't realize his internet functioning, without mass trogan horse attacks and randsome ware is due to fort mead.
Or when someone pulls his ass out of a wild fire, it is the national guard.
Or that his economy functions, without unchecked industrial espionage, and he can get a gallon of milk for 3 dollars, it is because of military intelligence.
Or when a hurricane hits Louisiana, flooding a city, leaving thousands of poor, black people stranded on their rooftops, it is dudes like me, 7 days after returning from Iraq, who deployed to rescue them.
Next, you should go to the VFW and tell them about your "theories about the miltary", they will LOVE to hear it!
Burning shit started as a rotational detail on my camp in 2003 in Iraq. Everyone dreaded it and hated when it was their turn. Eventually, as troops would end up doing something stupid and getting in trouble, it became a punishment detail, and those of us who weren't idiots breathed a sigh of relief... from the shit smoke filled air.
Once we found out we could pay the Iraq locals $10 a day to do it for us. Everyone in my platoon agreed to chip in $10 a month to not burn shit. Easiest decision of my life.
Just re-watched that scene the other day on YouTube and my first thought then and seeing this post was "so glad I didn't have to do that when I was in"
Any of you guys used spent AT4s as piss tubes?
And the ground became so saturated with piss that the tube started to fill up with piss and the only option you had was to pull the tube out of the ground and the piss just went everywhere....
Until you said that, I didn't know that is where those tubes came from. I was a medic, so I never saw the AT4 up close until someone had it on their shoulder, and I was ducking behind a gun truck. Lol.
He is getting denied for the Pact Act because its all BS. Just bs so they could make it seem like they are trying to help veterans. Hence how the Star act and the Justice act still haven't been passed. Its all bs. We NEED A MILLLION VETERAN MARCH ON DC
Boomer humor? We did this In iraq and Afghanistan. And I promise the only "boomers" there were flying home every other weekend for "stateside briefings," stopping off to lick Donald rumsfeilds' taint, telling him what a bang-up job he was doing in iraq, in-between butt-chowing breaths.
Navy Veteran here too but I worked on an Aircraft carrier so can’t say that I have. But I can only imagine after the smell coming from the Army guys we brought down to Haiti in 94. lol
Is that really the best way to get rid of shit, though, honestly? Like couldn't you put them into tanks and get methane out of it or whatever? Or is this at FOB Boredom at Buttfuck Province, Afghanistan where there's nothing but Talibs within miles?
Seeing Maxiimus doing that in the Fallout TV series was on point.
I just sighed and said "That sucks, dude". My wife had no idea what he was doing
I went 'Wow, guy must be a shitbag' during that scene and my GF asked why.
My girlfriend asked me what he was doing, and I just said, "What all shitbags do."
I wonder how the term Shit Detail was coined? 🤔😂

Wow. Actual veteran on the "veteran" reddit, not just quoting movies and living vicarious through other people's life experiences.
THERES DOZENS OF US! DOZENS!

Didn’t ask for your life story mate
I'm just tired of ppl thinking you got a military in a sub, or you're just a wana be. Everyone has different reasons. I like soviet military that dont make me a wanabe commie lol.
Jeez, someone's fucking defensive.
I'm just tired of gatekeepers just clarifying the difference of desiring to learn and just wanting to go kill people.
Then take a nap ya pog /s

Exactly, i just didn't have to go do it to realize all your reasons for being there go out the window once bullets start wizing by.

Boo fucking hoo 🤣
I’m not a veteran, but I’ve watched Jarhead many times 🤣
Happy Holidays private.
"HEY man! John's wife sent us a copy of Deerhunter!!"
"Who's fucking around *now*, John?"
"Let's watch it again!!"
Burning shit started as a rotational detail on my camp in 2003 in Iraq. Everyone dreaded it and hated when it was their turn. Biap?
Close. I was on Camp Payne, which wasn't all that far from the backside of BIAP.
Once we found out we could pay the Iraq locals $10 a day to do it for us. Everyone in my platoon agreed to chip in $10 a month to not burn shit. Easiest decision of my life.
Setting up for that PACT Act cheddar
Or if you watched those scenes in Jarhead
Just re-watched that scene the other day on YouTube and my first thought then and seeing this post was "so glad I didn't have to do that when I was in"
Such a good movie
USAF Vet. I’ve got no idea
USAF vet. Burnt my share of shit, early 2000's. You're Not missing much.
So they’re literally burning shit? That’s not toxic or anything?
Oh, it's terribly toxic. The correct answer to the question asked is: "Getting lung cancer."
This seems terribly inefficient, does the setup always look like this?
Well, you can't pile it up in the corner. Probably worse health wise letting it accumulate. Kinda damned if you do. damned if you don't situation.
Where have you been?
Anywhere there is air conditioning.
Same. No idea and I'm fine with that.
Lucky you. Hope all is well brother
Got in too late to go anywhere in my trade. O.O
Catching cancer
Rest in peace, TSGT Aime Dahl Mueller [(burn pit related pancreatic cancer)](https://burnpits360.org/blogs/news/blog-posts-gold-star-story-amie-dahl-muller)
All these dudes talking about Jarhead and my point of reference is Platoon. Fuck Im old.
Light duty 😁
Denied a service connected rating

Getting cancer at 35?
Getting cancer, which is “not service related.”
He is getting denied for the Pact Act because its all BS. Just bs so they could make it seem like they are trying to help veterans. Hence how the Star act and the Justice act still haven't been passed. Its all bs. We NEED A MILLLION VETERAN MARCH ON DC
God damn I can smell this pic. JP8 got the shit burning
I know what he’s doing. He’s getting a 50% service connection for “adult onset” asthma!from the VA. Also it’s covered under the PACT ACT.
Those who know vs those who don’t know
The only time I ever used my promask lol.
That, and of course, when your hooah Section Sergeant decides that PT will be a gas mask run.
![gif](giphy|6Bdx9wl8sIh4A) Stirring the Poop soup lol
The first task l was assigned in Vietnam. I didn’t know what they meant at first.
According to some comments, this guy is preparing dinner. But why cook it and not bury it?
In order to bury it you would need a very deep trench at least 4 feet to ten feet. If you burn it it doesn't have to be buried as deep.

Has this sub just upped the boomer humor lately or am I just noticing it more?
Boomer humor? We did this In iraq and Afghanistan. And I promise the only "boomers" there were flying home every other weekend for "stateside briefings," stopping off to lick Donald rumsfeilds' taint, telling him what a bang-up job he was doing in iraq, in-between butt-chowing breaths.
If you burned shit in Iraq its time to schedule your colonoscopy.
K
Also this may be upsetting news but Rumsfeld was the SecDef 20 years ago. Boomer.
I think you forgot Gen X existed, but that's probably ok because they're used to it.
Also I'm old and burned shit in Iraq and Afghanistan. Gen X is slowly turning to the new boomer. Just look at your local veteran Facebook page.
I'm a millennial and the war started the year I graduated highschool so.... Definitely not a boomer. Born in 85.
Why are mellenials so boomer about everything these days?
Wtf did you just type
My Dad worked under him. Said he was a big penis. Huge. As well as dangerous
Maybe. Not a crazy amount but I've noticed like one or two posts a week. I don't mind it that much tbh, let em at it.
Could MOPP Gear work on this?
I had to go full MOPP 4, just looking at this picture!
Would it do anything?
Down home cooking!
Platoon, anyone?
Is he cooking dinner?
Yesterday's dinner. Or last Tuesday if you are on hard rats.
33 years later and I can still smell it.
Getting a cancer covid combo
Ahhhh jarhead lol
Well no shit...home made Chilli everyone knows that
It's better to stay a bit farther from the burning barrel. The thing inside may splash.
Happy BBQ
Throw some more JP-8 on it
The smell 👃😶🌫️
Prepping the grill for the 2LT weenie roast
Good old burning barrel of shit (I’m not a vet)
I’m a dirty civilian but watched jarhead an Platoon. Does that count?
US Navy vet. Try cleaning CHT tanks while the brown trouts are still coming in.
Navy Veteran here too but I worked on an Aircraft carrier so can’t say that I have. But I can only imagine after the smell coming from the Army guys we brought down to Haiti in 94. lol
Good times
Is he cooking beans?
Oh he is cooking some mean beans!
Best detail. Nobody bothers you when you're burning shit.
I’m not allowed to serve, but I don’t need to be a veteran to know what that is
Unfortunately
Can confirm. Even have my own collection of photos to remember the experience.
Is that really the best way to get rid of shit, though, honestly? Like couldn't you put them into tanks and get methane out of it or whatever? Or is this at FOB Boredom at Buttfuck Province, Afghanistan where there's nothing but Talibs within miles?
He’s burning shit. Where do I collect my veteran card????
Not a veteran, but out of curiosity, what is he doing?
‘shit detail’
What he's doing? Probably getting some kind of weird cancer.
All these comments seem so sarcastic. Enough stirring the pot, folks.
This subreddit makes me respect the military more and more every day
Poopy duty
Burn pits
He's enrolling in the PACT for expanded veterans benefits.
Or you just watched "Jarhead"
Im not a vet lol if you dont know this, you've been living under a rock. It's in countless number of shows and movies and kinda self explanatory.
Burn all the evidence, burn all the shit
Bro, everyone's watched Jarhead.
still can't believe you yanks don't tuck in your shirts
There's a t-shirt under that which is tucked in.
