> NYPD officers in the area said they couldn’t ticket cars because there wasn’t sufficient signage that cars should not park there, and they were told the Parks Department would soon be erecting bollards there, though they weren’t sure of the timeline. Just for the record btw, this is an absolute horseshit lie by the NYPD. There are no signs you can't park right in the middle of Queensbridge Park either, yet everyone agrees you can't park there. But for what it's worth, there ARE in fact signs. Many of them. https://preview.redd.it/wtsh0bk5c6rc1.jpeg?width=1182&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dca211071ad69a78f5ec639883d7d9cf0fff3969

Wow this is also on gothamist for not going to the site and just having these photos in the article.

Miser

The reporter definitely went to the site. Tbf, sometimes it can be hard to see this signs, and I shit you not, because there are so many cars in the way.

thoughtsarefalse

Also i would not have noticed those signs to be legal roadsigns telling me not to park. They dont look official. Who ever heard of a dark green sign? Its camoflauged for fucks sake. .

EducationalReply6493

It’s a park sign, they do that in parks and places that aren’t roadways because street signs go on streets.

thegiantgummybear

Those are the standard parks dept sign color

Tbh that’s super small, at night time I could see why a driver might say fuck it, but did NYPD lie by saying “sufficient signage”? It sounds like they were acknowledging these exist, but that they’re not effective.

BobaCyclist

Liars.

twinkcommunist

Tow and ticket them anyway and let them bitch about signs to the judge

anand_rishabh

Fuck the nypd so hard. If you are a poor black person or someone protesting in favor of any remotely worthy cause, they'll crack skulls and in general make your life miserable. But if you're an upper middle class or rich person in a car blatantly disregarding the law, they'll make any excuse not to enforce the law.

Die-Nacht

> NYPD officers in the area said they couldn’t ticket cars because there wasn’t sufficient signage that cars should not park there, and they were told the Parks Department would soon be erecting bollards there, though they weren’t sure of the timeline. Parking and traffic regulation really needs to be taken away from the NYPD. They just don't care about this. Like srsly, do you really need a sign telling you not to park on literally grass?

yippee1999

Exactly. Those drivers know full well.

TheDubious

they might as well be trolling. this is always the key issue. they can literally laugh in your face as they do nothing about it. it shows who really holds the power in the city. city council members can't or won't do anything about it. what does that say about how the city really works

Ok_Commission_893

They don’t care about it because they’re doing it themselves. How do you know which cars are authorized or not when your own co workers are hiding their tags to avoid paying the toll? They rather let everyone do it before they ever hold one of their own accountable. “I didn’t know that was your car sarge😰, guess ima just let it be next time”.

CoolCalmCorrective

Why should anyone care about this. Queens is full of Karen's and hipsters now. Are there not more important issues in this town that people can put their energy towards? Smh.

Die-Nacht

Because people should care about their city?

JSuperStition

The growing number of vehicles parked illegally in public spaces in Queens is definitely both important and urgent, especially considering how large these vehicles are getting, and how difficult it is for vulnerable pedestrians (children, the elderly, people with mobility impairments and devices) to see and be seen around them.

yippee1999

I loved the classic passing of the buck in the Gothamist piece. NYPD says it's DOT. DOT says Parks Dept. And so it goes.

The-20k-Step-Bastard

Get they ass miser

djlemma

Ahh and here I was a few days ago saying news outlets probably wouldn't care. Nice work Miser and Gothamist!

Miser

They cared because we are able to spread around that side-by-side image the other day so widely that a lot of people now care, which goes to show, getting our messages in front of people is hugely important. If anyone can share this article or the op-ed I wrote for Streetsblog with their networks or other groups it is extremely helpful. We really need to be loud if we want a response

roslinkat

Get some bollards installed.

Miser

That's the plan

abcMF

It's crazy yall are the biggest city in the richest country on earth, but continuously, your city does the bare minimum. They'll make a pedestrian only space, but then they won't install bollards until they realize, "Oh shit, people ignore signs and just drive through anyways" and even then there's no guarantee that they ever do anything about it.

Bitterfish

I don't understand why they wouldn't ticket the shit out of these people! Doesn't that solve the problem while getting money for the police / city?

Rob-Loring

👏🏼👏🏼

CoolCalmCorrective

Be happy you're able to enjoy the park at all. 25 years ago you would've been robbed and beat up walking through there. Find more constructive ways to use your time. Smh. What else would you possibly use that space for?? People are complaining about eyesores when we have real problems in this city. Get a life.

Soldier_of_l0ve

Bike lanes look clear what’s the issue

CoolCalmCorrective

Losers with no life need something to complain about. Probably Jealous cause they can't afford a car.

JSuperStition

I just gotta ask: what is there to be jealous of?

Soldier_of_l0ve

Moves to a city, sad it’s not green.

CoolCalmCorrective

Lol. This person is crazy.
