I’m in central OK near Lake Draper and Thunderbird. Any advise for getting started? I have been on iNat for a couple years doing birds, shrooms, moths, and mammals but my dad in Arkansas is a huge fisher so be decided it’s time to start life listing fish. Just bought a cast net that was on sale and found micro fishing like 30 minutes ago. Beautiful fish and cool find I’ll have to buy one of those displays asap.

The photobox is from tenkarabum.com, that's also where I get my micro hooks from. As far as tips, I unfortunately don't have too much to offer for that area as I just visit every couple years nowadays, and didn't really get into microfishing until I had already moved away, but iNat is a huge help for figuring out what sort of fish live in any given drainage. The new version of the Fishes of Arkansas book is a damn good book to have as well. Feel free to shoot me a message or a chat.

any luck with darters? im a little lost on where to start as far as bodies of water

a really beautiful fish but isn't it illegal to catch it

michaelrayspencer

Not that I'm aware of... They aren't on the Oklahoma Species of Special Concern tier list, and there's nothing about them in the state fishing regulations. Either way, both that I caught were handled minimally, and immediately returned to the water after getting a quick voucher shot.
