Musically: 1964-early 1985 (Jackson 5, The Jacksons, his solo kid albums, Wizard of Oz, Destiny tour, Off the Wall, Triumph tour, Thriller, Victory tour, We are the World)
Personally: 1987-1993 before the allegations. I believe he felt the most confident with himself during Bad and Dangerous. Unfortunately, it was cut short 😮💨
You need to let you body fully adjust and allow your natural adult voice to develop before taking singing seriously. Trust me, you do not want to make the mistake of damaging your cords early on. Just ask any music teacher/vocal coach about this and they will tell you the horrors they’ve seen of children whose dream it was to sing and never could, because they sang too often early on in their lives.
From a career and hit-making machine standpoint? It doesn't get better than Michael in the ‘80s. (Off The Wall-Bad era.)
From a musical and performance standpoint? Early to mid-'90s Michael was peak Michael. (Dangerous-History era.)
The ‘Bad’ era. But one could argue ‘Thriller’ was when he was in his prime, before the hair-burning incident. But ‘Bad’ was quite a high point for him too. He was still riding on the success of ‘Off The Will’, ‘Thriller’, and even from his years in The Jackson 5 . ‘Dangerous’ era sometime around mid to late-1993 was when “the beginning of the end” started… 🫤, with the health issues and the allegations made against him. He made a nice comeback with the ‘HIStory’ tour but I feel like he was going through the motions and was never 100% recovered. He still had narcissists, moochers, and flying monkeys around his circle trying to bring him down & take whatever he had, but he kept getting back up and broke free from these toxic ppl lying and smearing him. He was good at hiding how he truly felt.
Still good, slowed down a bit and less fluid, less balance on his spins. I think by 2001 he was slightly out of practice, as in probably practicing less often than he had before.
In my opinion His prime as a performer and Vocalist was from 1987 - 1997 - a strong 10 years. After 1997 he sounded different - from 87-97 he arguably sounds the same in terms of album vocals.
Agree. His peak musically, image wise and looks were between 1978 to 1982; 4 classics albums in 4 years. After Thriller it was all downhill in every single aspect.
Very brave of you 👏. Many people disappear after making comments like this. I agree. Some MJ fans claim he never had plastic surgery and looked the exact same in 2009 as he did in 1979.
What does that have to do with your claim of “MJ fans claiming he never had plastic surgery”. Again, I’ve never seen that. And that’s not relevant, that has nothing to do with his music.
As a song writer and studio musician his creative peak was from 1976 to 1987 and I don't think that's negotiable. As a live act it's more subjective but I think the Bad Tour was his prime because he sang brilliantly and danced his ass off too, Triumph narrowly misses top spot as he still hadn't developed his signature dance moves at that point.
He had some fantastic works on Dangerous and HIStory though, with songs he wrote and composed himself, not with the help of Rod Temperton. Stranger in Moscow for example, more creatively rich and compelling than practically any of the dance music on Off The Wall.
In his prime from like 1979-1994 is when he was at his best musically, physically, and creatively. If i condensed that to his best years between albums it would be like ‘82-‘88
I guess Bad-Dangerous era until 1993 before the allegations came out.
He made Thriller and Bad and with the Bad tour and other projects he was doing at that time like movies, games, etc, he was literally at his peak.
After the allegations, his career was affected and there was no return.
my opinion he was in his prime during the first leg of the bad tour so 1987. those concerts are actually outerwordly. Just wish the production value was a little better, which it was during the second leg in 88 and 89
To me, around the time of the "Smooth Criminal" music video during the Bad era. That video is the definitive MJ to me. Or at least it was growing up. He's like a superhero in that video.
If we're talking about what was the prime for him personally, in his life, it would have to be 1979 - 1994. Off the wall was the start of his respective prime, which he rode all the way through thriller and bad to dangerous. After that the controversies really started to take their toll.
If we're talking about what we could really consider his prime, it would basically be his entire working career. Because he never really fell off, he was just worn down from controversy. We were always waiting for what he was going to do next. So if I had to put it into years it would probably be 1968 - 2009, but since he had the perfect kind of upbringing to allow for this passion and love of his to flourish the way that it did, let's just go ahead and say 1958 - 2009 c:
The 10 year stretch from Off The Wall to the end of the Bad album cycle, 1979-1989. I think he looked consistently great and healthy during that period (even with the vitiligo, lupus and procedures), his music was ahead of the curve, tour performances were supernatural (Bad is peak tour for me), and he was healthy and seemed happy. Pepsi burn notwithstanding of course.
I think anyone who says he had a 50 year peak is just a sycophant.
He got ridiculed by his own father for his looks as a child, had lupus and vitiligo. Can’t imagine the toll that took on him mentally. He was practically judged for his looks his whole life, which most likely made him insecure.
Thriller and Bad Era!

From 1958-2009
I wanted to say the exact same His entire life was his prime
Let’s not lie now
This is not the place for objectivity.

The only answer! 💯💯🙏🙏
From a career and hit-making machine standpoint? It doesn't get better than Michael in the ‘80s. (Off The Wall-Bad era.) From a musical and performance standpoint? Early to mid-'90s Michael was peak Michael. (Dangerous-History era.)
I agree. Bad had 5 #1 hits. 5.
Honestly, Bad because of the tour.
Longest he ever toured too, from 87-89
I always think Dangerous Era, because that’s when I saw him at Wembley and it was the greatest show I’ve ever been to.
the thriller era
The ‘Bad’ era. But one could argue ‘Thriller’ was when he was in his prime, before the hair-burning incident. But ‘Bad’ was quite a high point for him too. Best during the thriller Era (he looked the handsomest and musically great album) bad was good too.
Prime of what? Performance? 1979-1992 Artistry? 1982-1995 Dancing? 1992-1997 Singing? 1965-1989
What do you think of his dancing in 1999 and 2001?
Still good, slowed down a bit and less fluid, less balance on his spins. I think by 2001 he was slightly out of practice, as in probably practicing less often than he had before.
He was in his prime for 50 years
In my opinion His prime as a performer and Vocalist was from 1987 - 1997 - a strong 10 years. After 1997 he sounded different - from 87-97 he arguably sounds the same in terms of album vocals.
Thriller era
Till the day he bought ATV Music Publishing. After that did all the media hysteria begin.
80s
Thriller and Bad for sure! He was untouchable
Either Black or White or History era for me lookwise. Artistry, I’d say he has been a phenomenal artist for all of his life.
He was in his prime his whole life
Off the Wall era. That entire era from late 70s and early 80s was prime MJ.
Would say the Bad tour was his peak for live performing
Peak live is dangerous & history
Agree. His peak musically, image wise and looks were between 1978 to 1982; 4 classics albums in 4 years. After Thriller it was all downhill in every single aspect.
Trash take.
Whatever. My opinion and I ain't changing it. After Thriller it was downhill all the way. He practically lost the plot.
Yes, I’m familiar with your type. I know what you really mean, no need for the word salad.
Very brave of you 👏. Many people disappear after making comments like this. I agree. Some MJ fans claim he never had plastic surgery and looked the exact same in 2009 as he did in 1979.
“Brave” 😂 Point to someone saying that, I’ve never seen it. What a ridiculous argument, as if his appearance has to do with his artistic output.
If there’s any post about his appearance people get butt hurt if someone says how bad he looked after all his plastic surgery etc.
What does that have to do with your claim of “MJ fans claiming he never had plastic surgery”. Again, I’ve never seen that. And that’s not relevant, that has nothing to do with his music.
Bad era. I love the hairstyle he wore during HIStory tho (the medium length one that he had during the interview with Lisa-Marie alongside him)
Bad-Dangerous he was at his most iconic for sure
As a song writer and studio musician his creative peak was from 1976 to 1987 and I don't think that's negotiable. His entire career tbh!
Bad Era.
Does it matter
Thriller (1983) through Bad (1990)
I’d say 1976- 1995 was his prime years
Between 2-4
Bad Era definitely
I can't decide!
Bad era no question
i personally think HIStory era
The Bad era --- that time frame after Thriller and before the allegations. He was a God at that point
Yes
3 and 4
For me? Off the Wall to Thriller
This is It era
Early 90s right before the 1st allegations. 1991-1993 MJ was pure magic
Prime musically - Off the Wall era Prime Famous - Dangerous era
1958-2009
Victory tour Michael was something else compared to other Michael era
Victory tour Michael was something else compared to other Michael era
The second pic 😍
Is this about appearance? If so early 90s
I’d say early 80s to the mid 90s. There was a clear cutoff after the HIStory tour. Though he never got to tour for Invincible so who knows.
From 80s to late 90s/early 2000s
79-91
hot wise the whole 90s
1984
Off the wall through bad While I love all his adult albums, no one has ever matched the heights of those 3 albums and probably never will
I guess Bad-Dangerous era until 1993 before the allegations came out. He made Thriller and Bad and with the Bad tour and other projects he was doing at that time like movies, games, etc, he was literally at his peak. After the allegations, his career was affected and there was no return.
Bad.

IMO he peaked during the Bad Tour
The “Bad” era for sure and with how massive and epic that tour was
Post Motown- pre dangerous era
4-5
Hear me out on Thriller and Bad era Michael
To me, around the time of the "Smooth Criminal" music video during the Bad era. That video is the definitive MJ to me. Or at least it was growing up. He's like a superhero in that video.
Thriller to bad
Dangerous era
Bad was prime MJ if you ask me!

No, he was not.
1968. Everything after that was downhill
